Saint-Saens Miangel Slightly random tangent, but I love the little freshman alto girl in the other class. XD She's so awesome. She's my little freshman buddy, but she seems older than a freshman. It's weird. Yeah, we freshman are awesome... Hehe, you can be. We have three freshman in my band class, since it's the upper band - there's a percussionist, an alto player (not my freshman buddy, a different one), and a trumpet player. The freshman percussionist is SO much fun to pick on. XD Whenever we have freshmen in the upper band, we single out one and pick on them all year. This year it's the percussionist. Last year it was an alto player. XDD My mom got me a shirt for my birthday that says "Practice safe sax." XD I can't wear it yet though, 'cause my birthday's not for 11 days.

Best part is, I'm getting it right before we go to Lionel Hampton (big jazz festival in Idaho) and so I'll be able to wear it around while I'm there, and everyone'll understand it! XDD

Anyway, I don't know much about hitting altissimos on tenor since I've never had need for them, so I've never tried. But since the higher you go the tighter your lips get, I'd think that tightening your lips more should help.

Im not sure wether to tighten my lips more, or get a new mouthpiece. But maybe one of you can help me out? Thanx smile YEah there are s truckload of differnt fingerings to mess with. Like Soccer18 said overtones help out big! If you can hit your subtones well then you can practice overtones. Subtones are those tones produced where the upper partials (brightness of tone color) are suppressed, leaving a "darker" tone color. The technique varies but usually has to do with adding extra flesh (lip flesh) to the reed while maintaining embouchure. This does a couple things, it forces the jaw forward a little, opening up your "lung bags" and making the lower partials more prominent, AND the added mass mechanically coupled to the reed makes it vibrate differently. It's probably not as complicated as I'm making it sound. Play a D1 (low D) on your sax. Now, play it again, but don't tongue it - almost play it - you'll hear air going through the horn - increase the air pressure - the note will begin to sound, but quieter and with an airy sound, because you have to let air out around the embouchure to control the note and keep it a sub-tone rather than a full tone. Think 'phoo' instead of 'taa'. This can and has been done all over the horn. As for the overtones start with the low Bb and play the subtone now without using the octave key play the next octave then try to play the third octave. It takes time and after a while your chops will get stronger and be able to do it like clockwork. This is where you can start to fiddle around with various differnt alternate fingerings and altissimos. Biting down on your reed is baaaaaaaaaaaad! and not the proper way to get altissimos you ruin your emboucher and your reeds! It's all about the control of the emboucher.

I know this is really, really random, but oh well. *shrugs* Try this solo on for size... Tank!Download the part that says "parts" and maybe the recording of it. This kid arranged it, so it's slightly different. I think it's pretty close though...The solo is a little different. Especially look at the solo for alto 1...Eww.... We asked our Jazz director about this, and he said, "Our Jazz 1 can't even play that... sweatdrop " I was like NOOOOO!!!!!!! jk. I think that they could though, if they practiced. Heck, anyone could...except me whee . But when you really look at it, it's really repetitive and stuff. I..."aquired" ninja the real version...hehe I like it...

I..."aquired" ninja the real version...hehe I like it... the band that did the recording is REALLY good but it doesnt sound enough like the original arrangement. They swing it too hard and the song isnt a swing tune. I have the score and it isnt quite as exact as i think it is. Others may beg to differ but i guess it's what you hear. My band has an arrangement of that and Rush but we dont play em unfortunately. I did write a solo part that's just sax and rythmn section and that's fun to play. It's hard to reproduce the sounds of the Seatbelts though sweatdrop

I was pretty amazed though. At the beginning, they sound like they are really rushing...
But hey, it's pretty good for getting it for free surprised . I just love the sound of the bass at the beginning of Seatbelts's recording...hehe
