Let's see.
Lex lost his hair when he was 9.
Lana lost her parents when she was 3.
Both happened at the same time.
6 years difference.
Lana is currently in her second year of college... or supposed to be which puts her at 19-21 give or take. Which makes him 25-27. Though I'm pretty sure he is 26 and that she is 20.

Oh, fair enough.
Although I thought Lois was 20 and Chloe was 19, which would make Clark and Lana 19 as well wouldn't it?

Well in the first season, they were starting out high school. Which means you are at least 14. So yeah she could be 19 and Lex is 25. But I still don't see why Lex is too old for Lana.
Wait, if Lana was 14, that means she was driving underage during the tornadoes. That explains why she sucks at driving!

According to wikipedia... Lex was born in 1980. Oliver Queen was born in 1980. Lana was born in September of 1986. Chloe was born in November of 1986. Pete is born in 1987. Clark's forged birth is in 1987. Late 1980s, Jimmy is born. Lois doesn't matter much because she is left out. 1989, meteor shower. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smallville_Timeline

Lois and Clark. I love those two. I know its not going to happen in Smallville, but the foreshadowing and the hints...well, anyone who knows Superman, knows they're going to be a great couple in the future. I also like Lex and Lana. Lana was so much stronger when she was with Lex.
