Playing cards was something that Chip was aware of, but not something he ever really partook in, per say. That said, finding a deck of cards laying around in this place during his explorations was, well, very intriguing. Why would something like that be here? Carefully manufactured, perfectly ordinary...and entirely out of place.
So, naturally, he had to go through a whole process of studying them. First, he checked the table it was sitting on. It was a table. Not very exciting. Prodding it didn't do anything, it smelled like old wood, and it was too hard to bite. Yes, he checked that.
Next thing was to gently poke the deck. Did it move?
OH CRAP, YES IT DID.
Wait, no. It was supposed to do that. He touched it, after all...it just wobbled like one would expect a bunch of cards to wobble. Next, he drew the top card. Then another. And another.
Yup, definitely playing cards.
The next test was to spread the deck out on the table, faces down. None of them jumped out at him as being unusual...still, he chose a few at random. A 9 of hearts, jack of spades, and 4 of spades. Sufficiently random... so he picked up the deck again, stacked it up, then spread them out in a line, faces up this time.
Once again, nothing particularly weird there...except that joker. That card was HIGHLY suspicious...so, naturally, he picked it up. "Hmm...."
...He turned it over a few times, smelled it, briefly considered biting it, and decided against it. Still seemed like a card, even if that monster was on it. So...whoever made it had something to do with whatever was going on here. But these cards were just cards, as far as he could tell...and he was quite thoroughly out of ideas here, so Chip shrugged, and arranged the cards. He didn't actually know how to play solitaire, so he invented his own game: Lay out the cards, and try to get certain numerical sequences by swapping cards around.
It would be hard to explain, truth be told, but he remained entertained for a while doing that...though whenever that weird joker came up, he found himself staring at it briefly for a while...
...After that happened a few times, he had a sudden chill, and turned around. Through the window he saw...it. That creature was there, and then it wasn't. And so, he did the only natural thing: He jumped up and bolted out the door to go chase the thing down. But, unfortunately (or was that fortunately?), it was already gone by the time he got outside.
"Well, crap," Chip muttered, and sulked for a little while before wandering off to find something else to study...the cards were already studied as well as he could manage, and truth be told, he didn't actually want to resummon whatever that thing was. At least...not yet. He really needed more data before he would be willing to do anything about it...and playing games wasn't gonna get THAT done.
