It looked like the rock had at least hit. Ernst snorted, picking up a few more and storing them on his shield, for now.

Time to throw again? It arced through the air and hit again, although it kind of glanced off. It looked like the people around him were picking up on the idea, though most people with actual weapons seemed focused on the beak. That was probably actually a good thing. It looked harder to hit. Anyway, it was better for Ernst to concentrate on the aiming part, since he wasn't that great at it.

Surprisingly fast for something that was going to be dinner-- and maybe Mal hadn't been paying enough attention. He yelled (a manly yell) when the bird caught him, but it still drove the breath out of him. Worse was being carried off-- and he could feel the pressure of the beak even though the God's favor.

Oh, s**t--

Zebulon definitely knew this was a Bad Idea. This was definitely a bad idea. Hanging upside down in a bird's foot, staring down at the people below him, prey to a metal feathered bird. It was unfortunate he really couldn't do anything from this angle, considering his shield was down there--

So Zebulon did the only thing he was able to do--attempt to wiggle out of the vulture's grip.

It really wasn't very effective, especially with that razor tight grip--

Brian nocked another arrow and aimed this time for one of the feet. He didn't know any of these captured Chosen, but it didn't matter. Through all of this, that was the first thing he'd learned. Chosen were family, regardless of who they were, and regardless of the fact that he had yet to meet another Zeus Chosen.

Rob gasped as the great bird reached out with its massive claw and grabbed him, squeezing the air out of his body to the point he nearly blacked out. This was a mercy as the bird lifted off the ground with her prizes. The world swam in his eyes, the people on the ground getting smaller and smaller. He wanted to throw up. This wasn't what he signed up for.

They seemed to have the upper hand, at least for a little while. The bird took a massive amount of damage and none of the Chosen seemed to be getting any. She had a moment to feel confidence returning, until it was all smashed to pieces.

"ROB!" Sid watched in horror as the bird reached out and grabbed him, giving a squeeze that made him to limp. She cried out and darted from her hiding spot, getting close enough she could get a solid stance and letting off an arrow aimed at the foot at held her friend. It connected, but only just, and her heart thundered in her throat.

Briiva sent another arrow at the bird, grinning ear to ear at the satisfying sound of the beak cracking. Of course, that grin quickly disappeared as she realized that the chosen she had just freed couldn't, in fact, fly. "He's falling!" Briiva shouted out, hoping to get the attention of someone closer to where Mal would land. The snow pack was pretty deep, but Briiva certainly didn't want to put someones life in the hands of a few inches of snow. Just in case, Briiva slung her bow across her back and darted towards the now falling chosen.

The right foot opens first, talons unclenching mindlessly -- and out of it tumbles Zebulon. He is lucky that there is snow to break his great fall: he hits it instead of hard ground and rolls down, only mildly injured.

The left opens second, moments later, dropping Rob in a similar fashion. There is a scratch along one side, not terrible but itchy and uncomfortable.

Finally, she opens his beak to scream, and lets Mal fall as well, murderous eyes turning to the gathered Chosen.

She swipes out at those who hurt her, coming low enough to rake her talons over the crowd, catching Brianna, Tara and Sid. Her anger is palpable. She rises up out of reach, and then releases the greatest of her weapons.

They knew that the birds could throw poisonous dung, but this is less throwing and more letting loose. It's a rain of dung that splatters the ground at their feet. It's not pretty, it's not graceful or elegant or strong. And where it hits them, it stings and burns.

In its middle, she lands again, bloodied but still ready to go.

OOC:

Everyone roll 1d20 before continuing to attack her as before, as per standard Combat rules! This roll is how much damage you take from poisonous dung.

At this point, the great bird is looking a bit like she's flagging, and Chosen think they can actually defeat her. You have dealt her 234 damage. At 600, she will die.

Brian gagged. Oh, sweet Gods. Blood he could deal with, but he'd never seen something quite of this magnitude. He winced when he was splattered, paused a moment, and wiped the poisonous dung from his arm. They were all going to need some good disinfecting after this.

Ohfu--Marisol grimaced, throwing herself into a backflip to get away from the mass incoming of dung. It still managed to touch her and she clenched her teeth to keep the hiss from turning into a scream. Once she steadied herself--the burn against the cold seemed even worse--she turned to look at the bird.

"Son of a bi--" Being let go was what he wanted, but -- maybe not when the damn KFC-candidate was so high up. He thrashed as he fell, and hit the snow hard enough that he saw stars and his teeth clicked together with his tongue between.

He curled into a ball on the snow for a minute, trying to get stunned lungs to work, and thankfully missed most of poop-mageddon. Most of. Mal took deep, stinking breaths and coughed, then uncurled and spat blood onto the snow.

"I am burning everything I'm wearing." He used it as a mantra to drag himself back to his feet.

The bird's slowness had been deceptive. It struck out very suddenly and very quickly, dropping its victims and raking its talons over the crowd. It was all Ernst could do to reach frantically for his shield, upending the rocks he'd piled onto it for -

What the ********, s**t. Literally. He'd forgotten about the poop (and the metal feathers, but the poop was more relevant right now), in his haste to attempt to rescue his comrades in any way he could. And what was worse was that he'd gotten right up close to the bird in his attempt to hit her better. Her poop came down upon him in a disgusting rain, getting basically - well - everywhere. It was a good thing he had tied a cloth over his face, but the poop's corrosiveness meant that it didn't really do too well with direct contact.

He spent a few minutes spluttering, frantically ripping the cloth from his face.

His giant coat...

Ugh, he'd keep it for now. He needed to give chase.

On one hand. She was so grateful that they got the three guys down from the bird's clutches. Even if Tara screamed to see them fall, they all seemed to get up. But the freaking bird lashed out, and Tara tried to dodge the talons. She tried, but it hardly was of any use or effect, the claws still dragging against her leg and slicing up her pants. Cussing, she looked down at the blood and winced at the pain. Manageable, but annoying as all hell to realize it wouldn't be long before that'd be hurting like a motherclucker.

Then the bird one-upped itself.

It shat all over them.

At least at this Tara managed to shut her eyes and mouth tight, quickly trying to use the snow to remove as much of the stinging, burning s**t as possible. She was gasping for air when she was done, horrified and enraged at the damn bird. She stank, her clothing was ruined, and she hurt. Curious by a sudden nagging, she pulled out one of the vials of blood she'd collected from the creatures. She was hesitant, but she swallowed the contents. And... actually felt a bit better for it. Not great, but it was... surprisingly useful.

Cat was relieved to see her comrades fall relatively safely, but looked skeptically to the sky when the great beast rose higher into the air. Then the thing started spraying poisonous dung everywhere and a solid glob hit Cat’s shin. She cursed as the foul matter stung her skin through her pant leg and she grimace, readying another arrow.

Sylvia nodded at the man, “I think we’ll all want some sleep after this.” She was glad that his response seemed to confirm what she thought she’d remembered about him – seeing him work to patch people up. He must have been a nurse or a doctor. She took his offered hand and smiled, “Sylvia. Nice to meet you!”

She was about to ask about his comfort working with patients when a shiver ran down her spine. Wings were flapping again – not the same sound as before, but bigger, even more ominous, and a shadow was growing. Nervously, she moved again to look out a window and reluctantly find out what had joined them now. She didn’t have the breath to sigh or groan or even scream. Her chest felt like a vacuum for a moment, until she finally blinked a moment later.

“s**t.” She heard Chris’s call, and she took a moment to steady herself while the others ran. She had to make sure her legs wouldn’t give out underneath her. But finally, eventually, she moved to help fight. She was terrified, but the more she watched everyone the more her chest swelled. She was so proud of them all – wasn’t that strange? What a strange time to be feeling as much, but there it was. At least until the terror set back in, but she wasn’t going to let that stop her.

When the dung let loose, Sylvia tried to lift her shield over her to block some of the rain. Luckily, it seemed to work, and she wasn't too damaged or disgusted...
