Alyx led the way into the next room, with a new conviction in his step. They were close. They were so close. He felt it, in his virtual bones. They would be at the end of this dungeon within the hour. It felt like ages since they'd come into this place, wide-eyed and innocent, but the things that they had seen in this place, the things that they had experienced, the trials that they had overcome... They were changed. They understood now the horrors that this world was truly capable of. Alyx understood that he could not face every challenge alone. Had he been alone in some of the situations that they had faced inside this place, he very well could have died. Hell, he almost died against the Gloomking, and he was fairly certain that some of the things that they had seen in here were paradoxically stronger than the boss that they were protecting. But it was all going to be over, and they would be free. Free to face the light of a new day and claim their places as the kings of this world. First, though, they needed to deal with a few vermin that littered the walkway.

As Rota entered the next room, he felt something that he hadn't felt before in their entire excursion through this labyrinth. The whisper at the back of his mind had gotten louder. it was more distinct. he still couldn't make out what it was saying, but it was there. All of this searching had been worth it. For the first time, he was close to his goal. Only these rats stood in the way of him and his goals, and they were not nearly as good at their job as Beetles were. He set his sights on the first Rat to look at him funny, which was decidedly the first in the room from the left. Feeling the spark of determination once again his conviction poured into his blade in the form of Black light as he bore his sword and its afterimage down on the center of the unfortunate rodent adversary. It was nothing but personal, but he had to get to the thing calling to him.

Alyx managed to kill a rat, giving it everything that he had. Rota destroyed a rat with all the ease that one might swat a fly. No matter. Alyx was not a DPS, and he could accept that. He just had to keep his shield skill up, and he would be golden. So long as he could serve as a barrier between the party's damage and the enemy's damage, he had a purpose. He was spent on his serious damage-dealing abilities, so he switched back to straight offense in order to try and get this over with. He slashed at one of the two remaining rats, satisfied that the ones that they'd slain were well and truly dead.

Now that that rat had been handily dealt with, the next course of action was to take out the next rat in 'line'. Rota's blade still blackened, he turned to that unfortunate beast as he swung, a broad vertical slash coming towards it with a conviction that this dungeon had not seen in a long while from the demon warrior. The afterimage screamed behind the blade as it destroyed every particle of air and mote of dust on the way to its target. The whispers still found their way to divide Rota's attention with how prominent they were now. He was SO close he could taste it! He just had to reach out and take the first bite.

Together, Alyx and Rota dealt with fifty percent of the remaining mischief, and turned their attention on the single remaining rat, which had just taken a bite out of Alyx like he was a particularly armored piece of fried chicken. Its body was flickering in and out of existence, and Alyx tried to strike while it was solid, trying to predict its ridiculous defense gimmick. They were so close to the end of all this. If this last little ******** would die, then they could move forward. There was no way that they'd be stuck in here for very much longer. Alyx was positively salivating at the thought of all the loot he was going to get. They were going to be rich. They were going to be gods.

Only one last Rat left to annihilate. Rota liked this prospect. They were so CLOSE. Neo Abyssian maintained its aura in eager anticipation of victory as Rota brought his mighty blade down on the last Rat in the room. This was going to end here, and then victory would be theirs. Maybe not the next room, but soon. he could feel it. There was no more beautiful prospect than finding what was calling to him right now. He wanted this victory, NEEDED this victory.

Well, they'd eradicated the rats in this room without incident. They'd taken a few hits, but it wasn't anything that was going to inconvenience them. Alyx looked at the next few doorways. He didn't know which one was going to take them home, but he was sure that they were just a few kills away from their goal. He grinned, imagining what was waiting around the next corner. Sheathing Gloomshard into gloomguard and waited for Rota to pick their path. He didn't know where this sudden burst of determination was coming from, but his optimism knew no bounds at this point. They were going to get through this, for real.

The rats had all died, and thus was one step closer to his goal. Ignoring the rats, he turned towards the exit and shouldered his blade, walking with a purpose. Every step brought the whispers closer and closer to the fore-front. Every second heightened his drive and steel'd his resolve. This was no longer a Sisyphean feat. This was an attainable goal.

Two beetles. They could handle this. Alyx would soften one up while Rota obliterated the other. At this point in the dungeon, communication between himself and his sword brother were essentially silent, they'd spent so much time together. He feared what they would be capable of with such levels of unspoken cooperation. They were an unstoppable force at this point, and they would be even more so after this dungeon was complete. Alyx just had a really good feeling about all this. He felt like this was a transition. A right of passage. They were crossing from the minor leagues to the majors with this crawl, and they would be given gifts fit for kings if they survived all of it. He raised his blade and channeled his energies into Gloomshard, advancing.

There was one beetle in this room. because of course Rota would pick a room with beetles in it. It was like there was a magnet in these beetles that attracted his sword to them. In any case, he was still closer than before to finding what the whispering was, so his blade flared black as per usual as he tried to cut this beetle down for blocking his progress and further delaying the inevitable. It would all be worth it, he had to keep telling himself that. The after image screamed behind the sword as blade set a course for horn, trying desperately to rip this insect in half for its trouble as fast as possible. He didn't want to blow up again, and he didn't know if this beetle could do that or not.

The beetle was turned into so much loot, and Alyx was ready to continue. He picked the next door and began walking toward it, wondering what they were going to find on the other side. It could not possibly be much longer now. Just a couple more rooms, he thought, and they were sure to find this b*****d and put him in his place. Alyx could feel his inventory bogging down with mountains of glint, and he could hear music growing inside him. They were close to the fanfare. They were close to the final leg of the first part of their journey. They had started this so long ago, but they were finally going to be done with it, and that was the most freeing sensation in the world.
