Naming Dream: She awoke in the dreamscape and knew something was wrong. Something was horribly, horribly wrong- nothing was as it should be, and things weren’t even following dream logic. She opened her eyes- then her eyes- then her eyes, a malignant swath of eyes, circling her head like some horrible insect. These weren’t her eyes and this wasn’t her world. Horrible laughter filled the air; the sounds of thousands and thousands of children, all staring at her- she was dying onstage before having been born. She knew it was a dream, but the crushing fear was explicit and real- she couldn’t wake up, she couldn’t wake up, she couldn’t wake up.
Paranoia overtook her, and she fell to her knees, to the ground, through the world. She fell short, she fell fast- the ground beneath her hooves turned to spiderwebs
As she sank into the swamp, someone extended a branch, an antler, a hoof. A lifeline. The reprieve was a goring, a mauling, a sharp branch speared through her lungs. She gasped for air, though nothing really touched her; the physical sensation of the nightmare was enough. The thing that had reached out to her only resembled a kin in the vaguest of terms; its face was nothing, a void that buzzed, black fly wings on a starless sky.
“You’re going to have a bad time,” it whispered as it pulled her close, and she believed it.

As a lamb, she'd been inquisitive and perceptive, observing the kin closest to her. She had to, for how little they so often spoke to her and each other, seemingly steeped in a mutual understanding where actions spoke louder than anything else.
As an adolescent, she'd hurt her leg. Roughhousing will do that, but she ignored it as best she could, thinking it was only a sprain. She kept her steps sure-footed and heavy in defiance, even as the pain never seemed to subside. In fact, it only seemed to worsen.
As an adult, she walked with a limp. The pain had eventually stopped completely, but it left behind something weak and unreliable. She had done well stifling herself, but she could not hide the uneven gait from her adoptive mother.
She explained the burden she'd been carrying, and was confused by her mother's reaction. The Totoma had only wanted to be strong like the rest of them. And somehow, the hurt her mother expressed was more painful than anything the Totoma had endured anyway.
