I always have such problems with starting a story - I either end up feeling preachy and boring or that the intro is insufficient. Ideally (if this were a book) I would try writing it backwards but I'm never sure what the ending would be...
I've even tried rereading some classics to see how they handle it but it never seems to actually answer my question. The path to good intros may be a class I need to attend...

i've tried to practice different approaches with intros, and i always feel like i don't really do it right. but as long as other people still enjoy the story i don't think i mind. i don't have it in me to take classes on such things. if forced to write, i just hate writing. i have to do it because i want to. and i don't want to be assigned certain things to write about. and i would be too bored trying to read a book on it.....so if my writing doesn't turn out how i like it or as good as it could be, it's my own fault, and i completely accept that. XD
edit: actually, now that i think about it...i think i try to copy styles that i see in movies. not things that i see in other writing, but what i see in movies. i guess because when i'm starting off a story, it's all about the visual in my head. and i've seen so many movies start off so perfectly, and it's all about how they view the scene and approach it. i guess in many cases, movies inspire my writing more than other pieces of writing.
