< Ready~ > Wilhelm said, finally shedding the bored and tolerating tone of voice for something more determined and sincere. Ready. That meant he could use a charged attack, right? Okay...he just had to focus, right? He'd never done this before. Ripley inhaled deeply and darted forward, feeling the power surge through his hands and up his arms.
He skidded to a halt inches from the fire, swinging the black and white sword through it in a harsh slice. The power behind the motion resulted in a blast of fire that scorched the Titan bug, coupled by a very loud, shrill cry that rattled about in Ripley's head.
There wasn't much of a chance to commend himself on his first ever use of a FEAR charge, as moments later, Wilhelm's heat worked it's way through his gloves and into his hands, enough to make him drop the sword with a hiss.
"s**t!" He gasped out, shaking both his hands in the air as if it would free the burning feeling on his palms.

Candace attacked and it was Rin's job to cover her a** for the next go-round. A job which she took very seriously. "I got your back," Rin urged as she held Byr up with his broadside exposed. She was ready to axe-slap a bug b***h.

Melvin coughed and hacked, dazed and shocked as he stood, bruised, sore, broken, having felt the insects in and around him, with the whirlwind of furniture and dead bodies, bodies that could have been him.
When the sand settled, falling down over him, he laid there, coughing, staring up into the fog and the churning shapes that arched above, and he watched it rise, coiling in the mist. He hadn't died, but it felt more like a prolongued suffering to a eventual end.
Melvin, this isn't the end. Get up.
His body was sore, dotted by stinger punctures, and he covered his mouth, feeling the phantom bodies that had been in side his throat. Inside. inside. Coiling.
He gripped his neck, and looked around, dazed, at the sea of hunters moving to take position to attack and fight.
We need to fight. This b***h worm thinks she's better than me. We need to put her in her place!
His unfocused attention did not want to look at the centipede. His sanity, what shred there was, wouldn't allow it. Instead, it went for the small lifeline to not just passing out or screaming right now.
The mop of curly black hair became his destination, and staggering to his feet, he moved straight to her, summoning Saliva as he went before he was at her side, throwing a arm over her neck and holding her against him. His whole body was shivering as he held her. HP - 20/40 Def - 7 Targ - Rin

When Mimsy opened her eyes again, she found that the parasitic arthropods were no longer visible. There was only sand and silence, and no indication that the creatures ever existed. This either meant that they were gone, or...
Curious, she pressed her fingers against several more fleshy portions of her body. None of them responded in any ways that were especially indicative of centipedal nematodes. It didn't feel as if there was something crawling beneath her skin. But as soon as she pulled her fingers away, the sand began to sink, shifting them all inward. Ah. Now there was an indication that the creatures existed. She caught a glimpse of a bandaged hand, uncharred, and grabbed onto it before the sand stopped moving.
"Oh," she said, as the Titan stood at its full height. "You are lovely."
With Lucky safely in tow behind her, she gently poked at the creature with her weapon, inspecting the way it moved and mechanically functioned against the sand.

Shiloh, coughing up sand, but by some miracle he found himself free of bugs, and free of drowning. The mystery was easily solved as he wiped the sand from his eyes, because the because the sand itself was no longer there, leaving in its stead a giant monster that as Shiloh stared, he quickly decided he wanted absolutely nothing to do with. Scooting a safe distance away from his fellow division members, he looked for someone else familiar, and tried to get his bearings.

Still in a daze from her momentary dip into honest panic, the teen started slightly to be tugged up, afraid for one sharp moment that the group had come back to push her back down. When it was only Ripley who pulled her into a hug she almost felt herself go back to that frightened state given how safe she felt in that one quick moment, but then she was up in the air again being carted off to safety. "I'm a terrible Moon." She told him with a forlorn sigh, having little want to expound on the point especially as she was set down. Wobbling slightly, Abbi righted herself and craned back to look up at the giant monster, sighing again. Fingers wiggled as she summoned Viveca once more, sliding her feet apart as she considered what to do. Everyone else was attacking and she wasn't so great at that, but she really needed to show that she could protect. Since that was kind of supposed to be her job... The girl straightened her shoulders and shadowed Ripley as best she could in case one of those icky legs tried to hurt him.
A curse from behind had her whirling around, then smiling brightly at the two men. "Hey Finn! Heroes don't cry, we'll be just dandy!" One hand left her weapon to create a small circle in the space between bent pointer finger and thumb, the other three digits fanning out before they waved at Jack, despite his cursing. And speaking of cursing, Abbi turned back to find Wilhelm in the sand and Ripley looking rather pained. Hands moving like that meant burns but... "Put your hands in the sand! It'll hurt, but it'll cool them off quicker!" It was the best idea she had and she motioned for Jack to do the same.

"WHEELCHAIR GUY, WHAT THE HELL."
Sure he was pretty much the leader here, but Jack felt validated in anger because burns were not cool. He would've made some comment about Finn crying if he actually was, but here he was almost ready to shed one himself from the pain and, well, knowing he'd almost died and all. Not something a once-civilian took to so well the first time around.
He felt better knowing he wasn't the only one who'd used those fires and burned, though.
Grumbling, he followed Abbi's advice and jammed his hands into a shallow layer of sand (all too wary of being dragged down again). "Everyone good then?" He passed Shiloh a look in particular as he joined the legions of the semi living. "You won't be vomiting bugs on us, huh, Pinkie?"

Rin jumped at the abrupt grab from behind. She spun on her heel, Byr at the ready. But the presence moved with her like a cape. A warm, terrified, cape.
She settled down as quickly as she startled and after tucking Byr down by her foot, blade side down, placed her hand on his arm. She gave a reassuring squeeze. "You better not be smiling."

Ripley would disagree with her, mostly on the basis that nobody is perfect at their jobs from the start...but he didn't quite get the chance to make this vocal. Perhaps another time.
The burning sensation in his hands lingered for longer than it should have. In his mind he saw the strong red welts bubbling between the spots of black on his palms, the charred flesh that would one day become scars. In reality his gloves has saved him from it this time around, and the pain, while intense and sudden, was dulled. Still he shook his hands with another hiss of pain, the heat of the fire wall radiated against his face. He tilted his head back, his gaze drawing up over the licking flames to see blackened bricks and melting glass---
And just like that, the vision was gone. The burning house in his memories disappearing in the blink of an eye, warping back to the wall of fire, the monster behind it, and Abbi's voice, urging him to put his hands in the sand.
"I...I'd really rather not." He murmured right back to her, visibly shaken. The colour had long since drained from his face, even as he tried to force these feelings and memories back down into the pits of his mind. He could see that Finn and Jack were up and moving, though at least Jack suffered from burning hands, and both men received a small smile before his gaze moved again, trying to keep busy to stop himself from looking at the wall of flames.
"Shiloh." It was a good distraction, seeing the pink haired trainee there, apparently bug-free and in control again. "I'm sorry I attacked you." Except he wasn't, not really; in his defense, it hadn't really been Shiloh.
"Hey - fire kept it away! ...Once...sort of..." He shot right back at Jack, though his voice trembled a little bit as he apparently tried to defend the 'Wheelchair Guy'.
Damn his hands hurt, though.

Jack's voice promised relative safety, and Shiloh followed it until he was standing beside the man. He looked a little queasy, but shook his head at Jack's question, hoping to hell that he had no bugs left to even make vomiting them up a possibility. "No, don't think so," he said, keeping a wary eye on the creature, and on Lucky and Mimsy. Ripley distracted him next, and Shiloh didn't understand why he was apologizing. "You didn't attack me," he answered, at least, not that he remembered. He was still a little out of it, but he managed to summon Haruko, hoisting her over his arm. Even if Ripley had attacked him, if he had turned into one of those controlled beings, he didn't blame the guy. No, he had other plans for Haruko, although he sort of wished at the moment she'd chosen the form of a giant bug zapper.

A sympathetic wince came from Lance as the first of the hunters used the Fear-fire he had provided. The wall of fire had condensed as each hunter swung their weapon through it, leaving only a small patch. Guess I should've warned them.As Finn shouted at him, Lance looked over to him as he was attempting to use his weapon as leverage to get out of the sand he was still particularly buried in. "Just be glad it wasn't Aria supplying it. You'd be dancing with frostbite right about now instead! Suck it up, trainee."

He continued to hold her, a gun pointed but shaking to be of any use. The other hand was kept held firmly to Rin, as anything less risked him loosing her and the world around him to the world below.
As she spoke, he only shook his head against the back of her neck. He was far from smiling. He would have said more, but the feeling of bugs in his throat, thought not real, was still felt, and he didn't want to throw up again.

Finn did what he could to deflect any blows that came towards Jack, but then the man was swinging his sword through Fear fire and there was very little he could do except watch. Several hunters had seemed able to get a charge and sent their various attacks at the gigantic insect, but now Jack was bitching about burnt hands, and oh there was Ripley and Shiloh and Abb----
"Bite your tongue." He rasped at her, his voice still hoarse though now he suspected from sand inhalation rather then being drugged by a tranq to the a**. "I don't cry." He reached up to rub away the tears that stained his face even as he said it, hoping to wipe most of the evidence away without irritating his eyes further.
As Jack dropped to the sand and dug his hands in, Finn gave him a kick in the shoulder. "Get the ******** up, you moron. Trying to make it easy to get drug back under again?"
To Shiloh, he gave the man a quick hand raise, a greeting gesture, though eyed him a little more warily now, knowing he had been one of the body snatched hunters earlier, and not sure how much to trust him.
