His thighs were beginning to burn, and the swords master couldn't help but think that this was a ridiculous test of willpower. As the Voice boomed from somewhere above, he tuned it out to the own steady beat of his heart, wondering if that was mechanical as well, and wondering if indeed that was the case, was his love for others in this world even real at all?

The next time he heard the voice, he gulped, knowing that it was quite angry now. Doubt speared his mind, but still he pushed forwards. Senga exhaled in silent thought. He was really beginning to forget that he had actual legs. Half of his body seemed to be operating mechanically as the steps arched higher and higher into the gloom.
It was beginning to seem like this staircase would never end, and that he, alone and with only the sullen accompaniment of the Voice, would never see another living soul again.

He was expecting something a little more.... Crazy? Instead all he was met with was a normal looking room, with a long a** set of stairs spiraling up the center. Easy... it was too easy right? As he started up the stairs was when he noticed something was wrong, drastically wrong. While the room was simple... neat, others trailing up the stairs as he was, there was something eating at him. Still, he climbed. The fur on his tails bristled slightly, the Kitsune was tense. Was something going to leap out at them? It was only when he opened his mouth to sigh at his confusion when he realized the problem. It made him stop, barely 20 steps in. The tower was quiet. Too quiet. Even if all everyone was doing was running up the stairs and not speaking, there still would have been SOME sort of noise. The sound of feet on the steps, a sigh, a yawn, a rustling of clothing. Something. Even him looking around, letting out a scream... no one responded. They were all deaf.

Wrong.
That was what he felt as he entered the tower. A terrible sense of something gone wrong.
What hadn't these days.
The door spoke of sacrifice and Mort entered without pause. There was enough talk of sacrifice to fill a whole life time today, and soundless or not he was tired of it.

Still he could not let this stop him. Even if they were all deaf, they still could use their other senses. As his hearing died down he felt his eyesight grow sharper, the scent of the building became more noticeable, the taste pungent on his tongue. The only bad thing about losing one sense, is the other four grew. One step at a time he continued, intent for the top.

It was a little unnerving to not hear anything, but the king pressed on. Though he did miss the swish of his cloak, the thump of his boots . . . Even the beats of his heart were a little too odd to not hear, even though he felt each pulse in his chest and ears acutely.
Was it like this for everyone, or just him?

Stairs were nothing to the king. His kingdom was rife with long a** stairs.
Just as long as the castle didn't destroy itself before he got to the top to meet the final boss.
