And so it came down to this. Alex's mother, practically begging her son to come and play Yin's booth game. Alexander had argued with her, of course. It wasn't that he didn't want to play, it was just that he doubted Yin wanted him anywhere near. That and seeing Yin up close..it was still just very difficult, and the feelings he was dealing with were so unfamiliar. In a way, what his mother was making him do was almost terrifying. What if Yin treated him coldly, or looked seriously unhappy to have him there? Just thinking about it gave him a horrible and twisted nervous feeling in his undead stomach.

But here they were, with Alex slouched over, shuffling forward with his mom by his side, eye downcast (he'd gotten rid of the 'fake' one at some point). As they got nearer he resolutely spent his time looking over every part of the booth except for the monster that was manning it, though he had to wonder at the mess that was lying around. This was the second time he'd been here and it looked a lot like the inside of his bedroom both times. Very odd for a Yin booth, really.

"Yin Cang!" Alex's mom greeted the weremantis warmly. "We're here, as promised! After this I think I'm going to be heading back home so I wanted to stop by to say my goodbyes." She glanced over towards her son, smile wilting around the edges a little when she realized how stand offish he was being.

So she simply reached out and gave him a swat on the arm. That got his attention enough that he looked up, eye first flicking towards her, only to see her lifting her eyebrows up at him, then over to his ex-boilfriend. Nerves were welling up, and his mouth felt rather dry, but somehow he managed a mumbled "Hi." While reaching up to push his hair out of his face, unintentionally revealing the dark and empty eye socket beneath.

"So...what am I supposed to do here?" He was talking. It was a step.

Yin glanced up at his name, really just rather mortified at how his booth was looking (again) as the zombies arrived. "Leaving so soon Lady Van Rotte?" He did sound genuinely sad to hear her say so because he had always liked her more than Alexander.

And it seemed like, this time, Alexander was going to talk to him. He opened his mouth to respond when he caught sight of where his eye was supposed to be and started to let out a hiss that he barely bit back. Hearing about it was one thing, seeing it up close quite the other.

He was trying to behave himself though. Just...treat this like any other visitor. "Um you just capture the scrags before it gets to the end of the maze..." It was one of those times where when he said it...it sounded really stupid. He knew Alexander was probably judging him for his horrible game and just...he needed to act. "I shall demonstrate..."

This was good, just releasing a scrags into the maze, timing it, and pulling it back out before the scrags reached the end. He was a professional scrags hunter after all...or probably should be. "Um, you get less time each try..."

"Yes, well, I thought I should get back home and resume my motherly duties." She smiled warmly, then once Alexander finally began to speak, ducked out of the way to let them..do whatever they needed to do.

Awkward. This was so incredibly awkward. Of course, when things got really bad, Alexander couldn't help but mess around with his hair. But he had heard that hiss, and while he wasn't exactly sure what it meant, it had happened while he had been messing with his hair.

No more messing with his hair. He would keep his hands firmly away from his hair. Of course, now that he was thinking about it, it was all that he wanted to do. His mom was giving him some weird look that he didn't understand, and he was giving her a raised brow back as though to say 'what?'.

"Oh, okay." He mumbled, feeling rather stupid now for not figuring out what it was he was supposed to do. He went to move towards the maze, but Yin was offering to demonstrate, so he stopped, holding himself back, tension thick in the air around him, like he was expecting Yin to get angry at him any moment and tell him to leave.

"Okay." He said again, like it was the only word he had left in his vocabulary. Tentatively, he offered the other boil a small smile. Barely anything really, just the smallest quirking up of his lips.

"Okay, I'm ready." He so wasn't ready. He was slow, everyone knew that, and this game was just going to make him look stupid.

Low and behold, when the scrags was released, he was actually able to lean down and flatten the thing with his hand before it made it to the end. Mind you, it did seem to have some kind of mental problems, running in circles and banging it's head against the wall. It probably would have been for the best to just put this one out of it's misery.

Alex's mouth was beginning to water.

This was just awkward as...something. He did not know what. But something.

He might have sent a quick pleading glance toward Lady Van Rotte. Something like "but you were the one I was supposed to speak with." When he looked back...it looked like Alexander was trying to hide a smile. Probably trying not to laugh at how silly his game was.

Wordlessly, mortified, Yin released the scrags, watching as...oh good, he got it. It did seem a bit...special afterwards. Yin quickly got out a new scrags for the maze, holding the one by its tail in one hand. "See...I do not believe it is too hard...' he all but muttered, eyes focused on the game, wings twitching nervously.

Of course Yin would take a friendly smile the wrong way. Since Yin didn't seem to wish to return the gesture, he let the smile fall from his lips, and he looked away from the boil once more. "It's uh...not hard but I'm not usually very good at games like this." He replied, then glanced over towards his mom, also giving her a pleading look.

Alexander's mom just smiled back at both of them, blinking innocently while thinking about somehow tricking the two of them into a room that she could lock them in together until the worked out their issues.

Oh, but she wasn't here to meddle. Drat.

Alexander turned away from her, then looked over to Yin again, sucking in a deep breath that he didn't need and exhaling, attempting to diffuse some of his nerves.

"Alright, lets go again then."

He waited until the scrags was released and he was given the signal to go. This scrags was quite fat, and moved a lot slower then a scrags really should. Alex's mouth was watering even more when he flattened this one to the ground, wrapping his hand around it's chubby neck before holding it carefully out towards Yin.

Lady Van Rotte. Halp.

Yin reached out to take the scrags, determined to ignore that when his fingers brushed against the cold flesh of the zomboil's it was almost like a surge of electricity going through him. Nope. Ignoring. Just another undead here.

Of course he was also debating ripping off his wings as they fluttered nervously. He seriously needed to learn how to control them before they gave everything away. Hopefully the language of wings was not universal and no one would notice.

"There is just one last stage..."

Alexander was fervently wondering why his mom had brought him here, or why he hadn't at least argued against it more. Yin wasn't the only one who felt the small jolt as his fingers brushed against the cold skin of Alex's hand. That warmth..it was something he had sorely missed since....well, it was best not to think about too much right now. He pulled his hand away, and before he could even stop himself was running fingers through his hair again.

Agggghhhh stop that! He mentally chastised himself, letting his hand drop back to his side. The movement of Yin's wings caught his attention, and he swallowed heavily before speaking. "Your wings. They uh..they look quite nice."

Really? Had he actually just said that? He was mentally face palming, the back of his neck beginning to feel warm. What was he even doing here??

Oh right, scrags capturing. He dragged his eyes back down to the maze, feeling like an absolute idiot.

He didn't even tell Yin he was ready this time, just stood and waited, somewhat poised though he was fairly certain this time there was no way he was going to catch the scrags that was released, his eye tracking it as it ran through the maze before he was allowed to attempt to capture it.

Was this one...limping? Yin seriously needed to take inventory on his scrags and pull out all of these ones that were clearly unhealthy. Maybe Alex could even offer to help my taking the ones that weren't up to snuff and finding them a new home...in his belly! In any case, he almost felt as though he'd cheated the game when he reached down and slapped this one to the floor, picking it up by the scruff of it's neck and offering it back out towards Yin.

The next time Eisheth decided to master Scrags, however, something went wrong: the jackdammit rats got used to her tactic and nor were fleeing in different directions, so the alchemist lost in the first round having no time to practice.

Her only prize was a green sticker:

GO USE THIS TO CLAIM YOUR 2 TOKENS YOU PERSON YOU

Stop wings. Stop. Just stop. No. Stop. They seemed to have a mind of their own, much like a cat's tail. Fluttering, flaring out slightly as if to show off. He was going to start taking learning to use his wings much more seriously after this, that was for sure.

Alexander caught the last one, and Yin unconsciously grinned a bit. "Congratulations! Um...if your hungry or..." he trailed off awkwardly again. Alexander did not prefer raw scrags to other food, and would probably not want to really see them again. He realized he had stopped talking a second later. "Oh yes, your tokens. Right. Tokens. Hold on just a moment?"

He turned, beginning to search for the tokens that were the prize. He sent a glower at Arthur, finally managing to scrounge up two tokens to take back to the zomboil. Of course he would show up when his booth was like this.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 20, 2012 2:37 am

It was like a reflex action. As soon as Yin was smiling at him, the zomboil couldn't help but smile back, and then he turned to flash a grin at his mom as well. After all, he had won! That was cause for some happiness, right? However, he was clutching the scrags far, far too tightly, likely just from nerves, and the sound of bones cracking alerted him to the fact that he had just snapped the poor things neck.

Well...waste not?

And while Alexander might have complained about the scrags being the only food Yin ever brought him when he'd been staying in the boils room, it was kind of funny how he actually missed eating them. Just as he was now missing quite a few things. Like seeing Yin smile, feeling the warmth of his touch, sharing dinner in his room, surrounded by minipets. Watching him sleep.....

Okay, that last one might be considered just a little bit creepy.

"I'll uh..I'll keep this one, if you don't mind? Or..or if you want it." He waited until Yin had come back with his tokens before speaking, reaching out his hand to take them from the other boil, almost purposefully letting his fingers linger against his skin, though the lump that was beginning to form in his throat suggested that he should just stop, and leave. Yin didn't want him anymore, and giving himself any hope that this might change was only going to make things worse for him in the end. Alex's mom was approaching now, and she reached out to place a comforting hand against her son's shoulder, likely sensing that he was dealing with a lot of inner turmoil, at the moment.

"So you say you built this game yourself? It's really quite clever." Yes, she was finally stepping in to try and help diffuse the awkwardness that had been continuously mounting since they had first arrived, attempting to smooth things over before she left the festival.

"No, just keep it. Really, we have enough." They were having such an in depth conversation.

Really, it was not until Lady Van Rotte spoke that Yin realized he was still passing Alexander the tokens in an agonizingly slow manner and jerked his hand back slightly. No moments were to be had this day. "Oh um this? It is not much....there are some really nice booths out there...and I could not run all of this is Ulmuka was not assisting me. He is around here somewhere." He gave her a nervous smile. What was he doing, why had he insisted that she come by? This was just...painful. That was what it was.

There was a crash behind him and he grimaced before turning. Arthur...the little half pint that he was, had somehow managed to knock over one of the boxes of prizes that Yin had just picked up. "Excuse me..."

He started toward the rabo, who jumped down, scampered past him and...bones? Were those bones on the ground? OUO Yummy! Alexander's foot might have been attacked.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 20, 2012 3:14 am

Oh several moments were to be had, but none of them were pleasant and all of them were extremely awkward. Still, his mom had picked a great time to decide to finally butt in, hadn't she? But the zomboil was still grateful, as he pocketed the tokens that were still warm from Yin's hand. "Thank you." He murmured, glancing away now, letting his mom and Yin have a chance to chat and for her to get to say goodbye, since that was really what they were there for, anyways.

"Don't sell yourself so short." Alex's mom chastised lightly, and was opening her mouth to probably add more praise when a crashing sound cut her off, and had Alexander turning back towards the booth with a frown, the dead scrags still clutched tight in his hands.

"What was tha---" He started to ask, taking a step forward, when a flash of white caught his attention, as well as a sudden gnawing sensation on his skeletal foot.

Uhhhhhhhh, okay this was just weird. He frowned down at the ball of white fluff, slowly lifting his foot up off of the ground, glancing back towards Yin. "Is this yours?" He asked. He would have bent down to pick it up, but frankly, by the way it was going after his foot he was a little scared to put his hand anywhere near it.

Yin was not stalking back toward the rabo. He was not silently shooting death glares. He was not debating how nice it would taste if he got Miss Xiu-Ying to work her culinary magic. Really, he not, but only because of what it was. Any other minipet would long sense have made a good meal.

The only good thing was that the little fox was so content gnawing at Alexander's foot that it was easy for Yin to catch him. He lifted him up by the scruff of his neck. "Art-hur," he all but growled at him. "No." He redirected his attention to the zombies, choosing to look more toward the lady than his bonded that he really was not talking to.

"Unfor--I mean, yes, I suppose he is." Arthur was just content to wiggle about, trying to get free. Until he yipped at least, a kit's higher pitch than a normal male would have. The inevitable wince at who it sounded like, the lump in his throat, the fact that he almost dropped him before he tucked him into the crook of his arm, still holding the mischievousness fluff.

Sheridan wasn't sure if he was relieved to see the game reopened or not. What, was it reopened? There still seemed to be quite a mess at the booth, had anything been cleaned? Or had everyone 'helping' just made it worse?

Oh, there was a scrags running, he supposed it was open. Quick after it before it escapes!

It was no wonder Sheridan lost track of the scrags. There was so much scattered around for it to hide behind. Where the jack did that thing get to?
