Thunderbolt went up to the boar and tore a whole side rack of ribs. There was little meat on the ribs, but it was soft, tasty and with the bones, he had something to gnaw on after his meal.
He settled down just a little bit away from Buttercup's resting form and laid his portion of the bounty on the floor. He would watch her and eat his ribs in peace.

❣ After a few minutes Ren goes over to the boar. She stares at it for a minute, then starts eating some of it. She eats slowly. There's obviously something bothering her, she never eats this slowly. ❣

((I got a name for thunderbolt and buttercup. It's Thundercup! lol. OR OR Butterbolt! Lol I like that one better!))

Buttercup wakes up from her short nap. She notices thunderbolt gnawing on some ribs and ren slowly tasting the wild boar.

Finishing up the ribs, he put the bones aside. He would work on them later. He watched Buttercup look to Ren. Thunderbolt had seen Ren, totally out of character. If she didn't smell so much like Ren, he would have thought she was someone else.
Thunderbolt, got up and slowly walked to Ren. "Something on your mind? This is wild boar and eating it like there's not tomorrow is how it's supposed to be eaten, anything less is sacrilegious." he said, hoping to lighten the mood a bit.
"So, need someone to talk to?" he asked.

Buttercup decided to sit out and let thunderbolt see what was bothering Ren. She rolls over in her spot and watches intently.

"Physically, yes. You are fine, battle ready in fact, but your mind...you're mentally fatigue. It will affect your judgement and performance. Even if it's unsaid, I see you as an alpha female." He stared at her hard. "Holding back, be it strength or problems will get someone hurt. Even if it's not much talking will help." he said. He hated seeing those in the pack troubled. They helped him when he was down, so he would continue the values taught to him to others.

Buttercup gets up from her spot and walks over to Ren. "I think you would make a great alpha......." She said in a reassuring tone. She nuzzles Ren lovingly.

"You're not alone, after all, we are a family. So, this is family business. We are now gonna have a, 'Family Meeting' right now." said Thunderbolt. He was hoping to get the ball rolling and with the help of Buttercup, get to the bottom of this.

❣ Ren sighs. She motions for them to follow her. She goes outside the den and makes a fountain of light appear. "Look in it." When they look a memory appears in front of them, of when Flame died.
Ren is looking at Flame, tears running down her face. He says, "Ren....I want you....To be the... New alpha..." gasping for air between sentences. Still crying, she says, "You can't die! I'm not gonna take your place! You're not going to die! I.... I won't let you!" She then tries to heal him, but it was too late. "Ren....You're going to be....The new...Alpha..." Flame said with his dying breath. Before Ren could say anything more, he was gone.... She cries more. The memory disappears. ❣

Thunderbolt watched the end of a legend and in his place, the birth of a new one. He could feel the emotions running through her now. She had loved Flame and yet with all her powers, she was unable to heal him. Thunderbolt lost a few in his life, but never someone he loved. If he'd lose Buttercup, he would be in despair as well.
Adding to the resposibilities of Alpha, Xander added more.
"Does Xander know of this?" he asked.

Buttercup looked at thunderbolt, answering Ren's question. "She told him earlier while you were snoozing." She said. She then turns to Ren. "Well no one can argue with that....it is a memory after all." She said, trying to get Ren to say something, anything, that would make her feel better.
The sun set over the western horizon, casting an eerie orange glow on everyone's faces. An owl hooted somewhere off in the distance, signaling the change from day to night.
