thegoodsamaritan Lucien's mouth twisted as the Piplup dodged Renoux's attack, then leapt into the air to try and attack the Beldum. Lucien clicked his tongue in exasperation- Renoux was too slow to try and avoid the Piplup.
"Take the hit, Renoux- there's no way to dodge." Renoux tensed up imperceptibly once again, though it might not be enough- that Piplup was going pretty fast, after all... ((Damage to figure out damage is a pretty simple matter with straight forward attacks like Pound, but for some moves you might need to look at the Information center to find out how they work.))
The Piplup's fin would hit. It's accuracy was straight on, but the block wasn't too bad either ....as the two seemed to determine the strength of the attack itself. The higher the accuracy versus the block or dodge, the more attack would hurt ...as the Piplup hit, but the Beldum's own natural protections weren't something to sneeze at either.
((To figure out damage, you subtract first the two dice rolls. An attack only hits if it's higher than the defense, so in this case ...18 - 17 = 1))
Though the Piplup in the end would find itself hopping about in pain once more. That defense wasn't anything laugh at ....as if not only the fact that the pokemon had steeled itself came into play so that the fin could no vital spots but ...the pokemon's own steely hide proved another problem.
((Then you subtract the attack from the defense. Or, depending on whether the move is special move or not ....the Sp. attack from the Sp. Defense. So, in this case it's regular attack so 7 - 8 = -1))
The two things combined was what brought tears to the Piplup's eyes. It had failed once more to cause pain, but it seemed that this wasn't enough ....as a pokeball would suddenly appear in the air and land ....before the boy's feet.
((So pretty much the formula goes like so in full version. 18 - 17 + 7 - 8 = 0dmg))
"Before I can accept you as a full trainer, you must learn how to capture a pokemon." "Though for the moment, I simply want you to take the pokeball in your hand and continue your attack."
The computerized voice would declare as the Piplup would once more go on the defensive.

Through the snake would feint as it would move out of the way ....the snake hissing it's pleasure at what would have been a death blow. It's entire body arcing lightly ....as he let his tongue hiss in and out. It was time for him to try again ...as he rose his body upwards and then strove outwards ...as he would try to use wrap on his opponent this time. His entire body sliding forward ....as he would move to wrap himself tight around the Growlithe.

Lucien's smile widened incrementally at the second failed attempt by the Piplup to damage his little Renoux. Lucien was quite impressed with the young Beldum- it certainly had the ability to take a hit. Lucien smiled, proud of himself for choosing such a durable Pokemon, but also in the Pokemon itself. This was certainly the beginnings of a beautiful partnership.
As he watched the Piplup dance about in agony, Lucien noticed a disturbance in the air somewhat above him. Remembering how the Pokeball and the potion had suddenly materialized, he looked up to see a Pokeball suddenly conjured from the air. His eyebrow raised as it fell to the floor by his feet. Sighing, he picked it up, though he wouldn't use it, yet- he had still yet to damage the Piplup at all, besides by its own stupidity. Lucien humphed, then waved a hand.
"Try Take Down this time, little one. Let's see if we can actually inflict damage this time, yes?" The Beldum gave no indication that it had heard Lucien, besides tensing up slightly and roaring toward the Piplup in a vicious attack.=~= Beldum, "Renoux" Lvl: 2/Adamant Hp: 14 Pp: 14/16 Att: 7 Def: 8 Spd: 6 Sp Att: 6 Sp Def: 8 Moves: Take Down, Zen Headbutt Exp: 0/100

((I actually want you to figure out the damage for this one.)) The Piplup was slammed powerfully into the ground. The pain sparked in her eyes as she hit the ground on her back and lay still .....the pain so bad that it seemed for the moment to paralyze her .....as her eyes rolled. Was this defeat, was the battle done?

((*salutes* Si, Capitan~ Now, let's see... 20 - 13 + 7 - 7 = 9 damagePiplup's HP: 5/14)) [CRITICAL: +1 to Renoux's Attack Rolls!]Lucien chuckled as the attack made contact, sending the Piplup, sprawling her across the Battle Room floor. He clapped a couple of times in congratulation to Little Renoux, as the Beldum zoomed back to a more defensible position. He needn't have bothered, though- the little Piplup seemed down for the count. He smirked, looking about, in case the Voice was watching this from somewhere.
"Satisfied, Monsieur Voice? Shall I take ma petit cherie with me as my prize?" he said, gesturing to the Pokeball in his hand. "Or," he continued, "is the test still ongoing, Monsieur?" He waited patiently for the Voice's response, but he was certain victory was his.((Also, sorry for stealing your thunder there with the Critical roll, but I read the effect in the Snover v. Tepig fight, and I thought I'd add it in. No hard feelings?)) =~= Beldum, "Renoux" Lvl: 2/Adamant Hp: 12/14 Pp: 14/16 Att: 7 Def: 8 Spd: 6 Sp Att: 6 Sp Def: 8 Moves: Take Down, Zen Headbutt Exp: 0/100

((Great job, but Take down is one of those special moves. It gains a +2 to damage so it's 9, and 1/5 of the damage goes to the user. So 9/5 = 1.8 rounds to 2 damage to Beldum. No problem, it's already great when people take it upon themselves to learn the rules, and, to note, a roll of a 1 counts as a fumble and works in reverse.))
The Piplup would put up one flipper in response to his words as she would sit back up. Breathing hard, but she was still able to battle and made that quite clear as she got up slowly. Her flippers touching her knees before she would race forward with another pound attack.
The voice would declares.....
"Not quite yet." "There should be a pokeball you received."
"On your next attack turn, I want you to throw it at the Piplup." "It's important for your survival that you learn how to capture a pokemon as well before I allow you to go your way."
It declares lightly as the Piplup's pound wouldn't exactly make one feel the need for fear.

Lucien admired the Piplup's persistence- it would make a worthy addition to his team when he was finally able to catch it. He watched as the Pokemon, as graceless as ever, lunged forward in another attack. Lucien snickered.

((Great, though this is going to be my last few post for tonight)
The flipper would miss as the pokemon stumbles past. Turning lightly she would prepare herself for the next attack as her tail feather would fan lightly. Her eyes locked as she saw the pokeball and understood what would happen next ...as she ready herself for the pokeball to be thrown.
"Now, throw your pokeball."
((Okay capture quite simply out roll the capture roll. In this case, it's simply a 6, so if you roll a 6 or higher you will capture the pokemon. As you can probably guess ....any hits will lower the pokemon's attack.))

Lucien smirked as the Piplup staggered past his little Renoux, and then perked up slightly at the Voice's admonition. Lucien grinned wider than usual, tossing the Pokeball up and catching it deftly, still showing off his superiority.
"Oui, monsieur," he said, tossing the Pokeball almost carelessly at the confused Piplup. It would strike true as the pokemon was condensed into the pokeball, but if Lucien thought he would get to add this one to his group ....he would be sadly disappointed as the pokeball rocks once, twice, and one final hard time as the capture was completed. But, the voice itself would cheat him of this capture as it declares.
"Wonderful job, but, you can't take this one ...since it's only for training."
The pokeball would shimmer once before vanishing.
"You tutorial is complete, and you are deem worthy. Please go back to the Auditorium and continue from there."
It would seem that Lucien's stay in the battle room was now over he was to continue onwards to register for his class.

Lucien's mouth twitched as he was cheated of his prize, but he shrugged nonchalantly, regardless.
"Ah- c'est la vie, oui?" He turned about for a moment, inspecting the room that surrounded him. Still no sign of the origin of Monsieur Voice. He shrugged again, then spoke.
"I am grateful for your help, Monsieur. May we meet again sometime, when I have grown stronger. Merci, and au revoir." He started to walk away, before noticing that Renoux still sat and stared at where the Pokeball had vanished from. Lucien rolled his eyes, but there was a hint of warmness in his features. But just a hint- he was still in control, after all.
"Come, little one- there is still much to do." The Beldum turned to him immediately, following its master as they both exited the Battle Room.

You don't know the meaning of real suffering."
"Oh, well look at that..." The Voice suddenly called out, distracted "...we've got a frozen porkchop! GWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" He called out, laughing hysterically.
The Snover's attack had indeed struck home, and although the blow had not been fatal due to the Tepig's natural defenses, there had been certain noticeable side-effects. The Fire-Type was frozen in a solid block of ice. Unable to attack or properly defend itself.
((I've put the explanation for the status effect above, for the others go to the "Information Center". Of course not, for you're just a mere voice." Six was trying to test whatever it was he was testing, just to see what would happen. He seemed to be having fun. "Well well well......i guess i can say we are close to the conclusion of our battle." Six said pleased with his Snover's successful attack. "Good job Snover. Hang in there we're almost done little buddy" Six said with a change in tone that sounded caring and encouraging. "Now lets see if we can finish this off with one more move Snover. Now you Powder Snow one more time!!!!" Six called out to finish this battle once and for all. This would prove that he is ready to be a trainer; to start on his journey, he could almost see it. Still facing the Tepig, the bold Snover attacked again once more with Powder Snow to deal the final blow.

((You posted twice, I dearly HOPE by accident.))
((Anyway we all figure it out eventually. I wasn't always a moderator, I was originally just another student.))
[8 DAMAGE!]
Tepig HP:-3
"No boy...I'm not a voice...I'm a Nightmare...yours if I so choose. Gwahahahahaha!!!!" The voice gave a sinister cackle as the same blue glow that had brought forth the vial and the Tepig would now wash over the child like a second skin. In the space of a heartbeat Six would be forced to re-live all his worst memories, his most terrible fears, all at the same time. This was merely a taste of what could be done to the child...a minor example of just what he was messing with.
As the visions faded, the sound of shattering ice would fill the room. The Tepig hit the floor hard, eyes tightly shut. Even from a distance one could tell it wouldn't be getting back up any time soon...though it was still very much alive.
[SNOVER GAINED 17 EXP!]
"Hmm...well it seems you passed. Run along to Registration and then go to the Pokelot" The voice instructed, the Tepig slowly receding into the floor.
((Now let me explain what is likely one of the most important aspects of the combat system. Of Akumu itself. Death.))
((You should well know that when a Pokemon's HP reaches 0 it faints; however we at Akumu go beyond that. Pokemon can, and occasionally WILL die, whether that be your own or your opponents is a matter of fate.))
((When your Pokemon's HP falls between 0 and -7 it will faint. From there it can be brought back using a revive or going to a Pokemon Center. However should your Pokemon's HP reached -8 or lower, it will die. There is no return from death. There are certain items which can prevent death, but these are rare and usually only work a single time.))
((Now moving on to something a bit more pleasant. Items. In battle you can only use an item during your own Attack turn. Using it on your opponents will earn you a smack upside the head. Further more you cannot attack and use an item at the same time; to be clear, using an item uses up your attack turn. Try and use an item and then attack will also earn you a smack.))
((Most items work simply and instantly. Use a Potion and your Pokemon will automatically regain 20 HP. Use a Burn Heal and your Pokemon will no longer be Burned. Pokeballs however are a bit more complicated.))
((To use a Pokeball you must roll a 20 sided die, just like you would while attacking or defending. This is known as a Capture Roll. To succeed in capturing a Pokemon you must roll higher then that Pokemon's Capture Rate. The Capture Rate is the number you must roll higher then to succeed, a bit redundant to say it like that, but I'm trying to make this clear. The Capture Rate is typically the Pokemon's HP +1.))
((For example, say you've knocked a Wild Pokemon down to 7 HP. The Capture Rate would be 8. That means you would need to roll an 8 or higher to successfully capture it. If you fail a capture roll the Pokeball will break and no longer be useable.))
((Any questions?))
