Alot of video game movies really steer away from the original story since either the original story is not "exiting" enough to turn it into a full 1 1/2 & up hour movie and/or it can't really be put into the format of a movie. Take Super Mario, its just 1 or 2 dudes saving a princess from a turtle dragon thing that spits fire and has mushrooms with feet, turtles, bullets with faces, and piranha plants after you all in a fantasy world where bushes and clouds smile all the time. Sounds like something Salvador Dali would make. Yet it got turned into some sort if failed cyberpunk movie confused
Hollywood always wants something that can appeal to a big variety of people (kids, adolescents, and adults) so they always compromise the original story by adding alot of plot twists, characters, and stuff that just makes you wonder WTF when was this in the game? o_O

Most video games have a good enough storyline that SHOULD be followed! A movie could be made about them easily. I hate it when someone decides to make a game into a movie. Why not just the premise? For FFVII, 'Advent Children' continued the story, and was a descent movie. For RE, I didn't mind that they changed the characters in the first movie, but then they introduced past characters... It would have been fine as a story about an Umbrella lab somewhere OTHER than Raccoon City.

Um, actually the SF and first Darkstalkers are American cartoons... If you want anime onlys: some .hack, The Art of Fighting, Devil May Cry, Fatal Fury, Fire Emblem, The King of Fighters, Sakura Wars, Samurai Shodown, etc.

The mario movie could've actually been good while sticking to the original story. I mean sure, a few things would have to be added from the other games, but it would've still been adaptable. Think about it:
Using the same intro, it starts with mario and luigi saying some stuff in a conversation (e.g. they don't know who their parents are, since they're actually humans born in the MK then sent back) then get called to do a plumbing job, getting sucked into the drain and ending up somewhere like grass land, exploring a little, finding some CG/animatronic koopas, finding mushroomers, hearing about the princess, confronting some classic enemies, while all this is happening some scenes of the princess captive and a few glimpses at bowser (not "koopa", BOWSER) would occur, the brothers eventually reach bowser's castle, a few shots of them fighting their way through are shown (a la de ghostbusters stairway scene) then they reach bowser (CG or just plain old TMNT-style guy in costume), find out they just can't beat him, have some corny dialogue and then jumping behind him and using the axe to cut the lava bridge, they rescue the princess, some more corniness, then they find a passageway back to Brooklyn but they decide to stay and defend the kingdom. END, no cliffhanger please.
See, it isn't exactly "good", but it's a helluva lot more loyal to the actual games, and more important, CONCEIVABLE IN FILM. Truly, why did they screw this up so bad? Hopes are stirring up that they may be able to make up for the catastrophe sometime in the future, just like I want Mr. Freeze to be redone in a Nolan Batman movie.
Er...
This was the... Castlevania guild, wasn't it? Why don't we get back on topic.

SoraMee Um, actually the SF and first Darkstalkers are American cartoons... If you want anime onlys: some .hack, The Art of Fighting, Devil May Cry, Fatal Fury, Fire Emblem, The King of Fighters, Sakura Wars, Samurai Shodown, etc. I was just saying us as westeners have kind of failed trying to portray videogames as movies OR cartoons, that's not saying Japan hasn't had their share of fail as well, I heard bad things about the art of fighting anime movie rofl and us westeners have had our moments of win with our portrayal of videogame based cartoons the Mario cartoons were indeed great, so was Pac-Man, and the Sonic (I am referring to Sonic with the Freedom fighters) cartoons were very good even though it differs alot from the original game. Zelda I would say was also a good portrayal but I personally like it for its corny-ness, same as Captain N which has Simon Belmont (getting back to the subject of Castlevania), though honestly what the hell was up with Dracula and Alucard? gonk I can somewhat understand Simon's suit being an adventurer but yellow suited Dracula with the mullet and "skater dude" Alucard emo Overall I liked its corny-ness but mostly for that, kind of like a B-movie or something. If I were to look at it with a serious tone it would have been an epic fail neutral @MrDark01234: I actually would like to see this idea. I wish somebody would actually try to do this. Some guys on Youtube made a nice Batman movie which was actually truer to the original comics (having the joker's backstory as the Red Hood) they had nice costumes and all. And I never understood the Mario Cliffhanger, did Koopa return or what? neutral Alrighty back on track with Castlevania...I'm still hoping it will turn out well or take the noble approach and just bow out and be canceled to be spared the humiliation if it will indeed suck and just have a fan make his own movie like with what they did with Batman: Dead End.

Okay... For this post, I guess I'll have to come up with something that would pass off as an acceptable Castlevania movie. I'm no fortune teller, don't expect much.
The movie begins overlooking Dracula's Castle, with some classic CV music playing (opposing bloodlines I'd prefer) a quick narrated textual prologue is narrated (a la de CV64) and then it cuts to a rumanian village (Warakiya, I guess) promptly specifying its location in the Wallachia region. A few scenes of townsfolk doing stuff are shown (this should take no more than a minute) and then the hero (whomever belmont) steps out of his house, sporting a whip, he goes to the market or something, gets greeted solemnly, and after a few minutes of talking about him, a monster shows up (zombie, skeleton, or even fleaman if you will) and wreaks some havoc, he quickly messes with mr. belmont, who reveals a badass atttude (PLEASE), proceeds to fight him with his whip and downs him quickly. The townsfolk remark on how this isn't the first time it's happened, then it quickly reaches nighttime, something remarkable happens (I'd like Castlevania rising up from the ground, old-school style) and the village is overrun with monsters, everyone goes into a panic, mr. belmont fights them, escapes into the forest and then the real thing begins. He encounters some classic enemies, wanders around a little, then it's shown how Drac is spying on him from his castle and dispatches his right hand man to dispose of him (COULD be generic, but I'm pretty sure we all want good ol' Deathy bones), then they shortly have a quick confrontation in the forest, they don't really beat each other up but the servant vows to kill belmont, and then belmont reaches Castlevania, Enters, fight some monsters, one or two bosses (vampire bat MANDATORY) and reaches Drac's tower, confronts the servant, kills 'im, and then advances to Drac's chambers. After a (SHORT) monologue, he and Drac clash, belmont has the upper hand, but then Drac pulls off one of his nasty nasty transformations, this makes up for the climax. Belmont can't exactly fight him, but he comes up with some sort of special move (preferrably based on how his ancestors had battled and beaten Dracula before with that same whip, which could work as a side story to make up for Belmont's general loneliness), vanquishes Dracula who obviously doesn't really die, and then escapes Castlevania, the place crumbles (if they did exceptionally well they could end the movie right here, but since I guess they won't...), he returns to the village's ruins, finds his home, reminisces on his ancestors and realizes Drac will never really die and he must continue his lineage if he is to be defeated again, then walks off in search of civilisation. THE END.
*pant**wheeze* Damn, that was one long post.
Anyways, once again, this isn't exactly predilect, but it would certainly be better than my coldly calculated flop (check bottom of page 21). My guess is that most of you will agree to this being acceptable. However, feel free to make any suggestions on how this sorta-good storyline could be fixed. (Which I guess most of you will) wink

Are you kidding me? This thread is still in existence years later? That's impressive. I don't know much about the movie, but Youtube has videos of the movie's "poster."

It's been a bit slow around here I guess xd Save for a few regular threads with some new posts. Nothing that can't be caught up with reading through the first few non-stickied threads.

Understood. Let's just say that if the movie is still going to be made, hand to a worthy director like the director from the Dark Knight or Narnia.
