 Rufus gulped. "Forgive me, Kuro: my thoughts were on protection and we both have things to keep safe. If you're sure we can all fit, sure we can make them comfortable... we shall place them in the cellar. I don't know whether we can fit a mattress in the cellar, but there are some extra blankets and pillows..."
...
"No, Princess. You need protection if I am to avoid war with your father. Please remain and protect Meme and Akito. I intend to see whether or not Cook can be prevailed upon to leave as well." He saw the cottage's drive ahead. "Let me go ahead, by a minute, to wake Meme and explain. I don't want his first sight upon waking to be of his best friend, bleeding."

Trapped. Helena cleared her throat. "You need not hide me. I can fight with a sword, and -" she broke off, seeing that Rufus was shaking his head.
...
"Alright, my Lord." She wasn't happy, yet understood: she could protect Akito and Meme.

Kuro nodded. "I'm sure everyone will be able to fit. I promise I will keep everyone safe." he said softly, placing a gentle hand on Rufus' shoulder as the carriage came to a stop in front of the cottage. "Wake him quickly Sire, Akito needs attending to." Kuro made sure Akito's blanket was secured enough to lift before he turned his gaze upon the Princess. "We appreciate your offer Princess but right now the people at this cottage will need your swordsmanship. Combined with my keen sense of self defense I'm sure we will be enough protection." Kuro stated as he tried to make clear the reason for not taking the Princess back to the castle to fight was not because of her being a woman but rather a need to relocate fighting skills where they needed it.

Rufus nodded to Kuro, leapt from the carriage and instructed the coachman to leave the carriage and go to the head of the drive, ready to run back and alert them if anyone came near. Then he made his way into the cottage, not being silent this time. It made him hurt to know what he was waking Meme up for, but he placed his hand on Meme's shoulder and gently shook him.
"Meme, wake up. We need your help, and you have to hide..."

Trapped. "I understand. I would just so much rather stick my sword into that b*****d!" she stated, getting out with the basket in her hands, careful not to rock the carriage. She placed the basket on the ground, ready if Kuro needed help getting Akito out.

Meme stirred upon being shaken awake. "Mmm what?" he said softly as he opened an eye and saw Rufus in a panic. "Hide? Whats going on?" he asked softly, sitting up and rubbing his eyes gently. "Is everything okay?"

Kuro nodded and watched the Princess get out before he picked up Akito into his arms once more. He carefully carried the boy out of the carriage, being sure not to bonk his head on the way out. "We can't wait, we need to get inside. Once you get into the cottage, package any extra nonparishable foods you can." He said to the Princess, bringing Akito inside right away, though he waited for Meme to be awake and the blankets to be taken to the cellar.

"Meme...it's Akito. He got hurt - badly - by my father. He's in a carriage outside, with Kuro and Princess Helena. They'll bring him inside and then you're all hiding in the cellar. There's food, water and other things to keep you going. You'll be safe."
Rufus let go of Meme and headed for the bedroom. "I'll grab all the blankets and pillows." He gathered them all up, placing them by Meme's abandoned 'bed' on the floor. He'd found some other things to keep them all warm down there, heavy quilts without covers.
Rufus turned to Kuro as he came in. "Where is the entrance?" he murmured, looking around without seeing it. He kept an eye on Meme, not wanting him to accidentally jostle his friend - which he would, if he ran towards him.
Twenty.

Trapped. Helena arrived just as Rufus headed for the bedroom. She inclined her head to Meme, placing the basket on the table and opening cupboards. There wasn't much, but she added it to the basket and waited.

Meme became instantly awakened when he heard the explanation, knowing that there were precious minutes to be used. He stood up and gathered all of the blankets in one spot for easy transportation. Once he saw Akito's body in Kuro's arms he couldn't take his eyes away. "Akito?" he said softly, afraid to even approach Kuro and investigate. He almost didn't want to see what happened to his friend. "Wait...entrance? Entrance to what?" he asked breathlessly.

Kuro pointed toward the fireplace as it was lined with decorative marble, two carved lions at the top two corners with the paws right underneath the lion's heads. "The left lion head....press the middle claw under the head. You'll hear a click and then stand back. The whole fireplace will move back a bit, there's a staircase that least a few feet underground. the walls down there are concrete but that doesn't make it sound proof so once we're there stay quiet." Kuro instructed sternly, waiting for Rufus to do as instructed. "I will close the entrance from down there. So you can make haste for the castle Sire."

"The cellar, Meme." He wanted to comfort him, but he knew he couldn't.
He nodded, doing as Kuro said. Once it was open he waved Helena and Meme ahead. Meme carried the pillows and blankets, Helena the basket of food. "You all take care of each other down there. I'll leave the coachman up here, to watch for my father. I can drive the carriage myself, so he won't know just by looking. I'll send Cook along as well, but she - or the coachman - will announce her, so don't open for anyone but them."
As he instructed this,he was already moving towards the door.

Trapped. Helena went ahead of Meme, taking the basket down the stairs and setting it down in the corner nearest the stairs. That way she could help position the bed in the farthest corner, the better to protect Akito. "Oh! Will we need a candle, or is there a light down here?" she called back.

Meme watched in amazement as the trick fireplace revealed a secret passage just as Kuro had mentioned. He was confused about everything but explanations would have to be postponed for now. Meme allowed the Princess and Kuro to go first before he carried the blankets inside but stopped just short of the bottom of the stairs upon hearing the Princess' question. "I'll get candles and matches." he called down as he dropped the blankets and pillows and began running all over the house in search of the items he needed. Meme found about five or six big candles and a couple little ones, seemed about right considering this house had no lighting fixtures. Meme frantically opened every single drawer and found two boxes of matches. Careful to close each cupboard and drawer, Meme dashed into the cellar with the items, dropping them next to the pile of blankets. He quickly opened one of the boxes and lit just a single candle for the moment. "We have to be careful with the candles. We don't have very many." he said softly.

Kuro didn't worry about the Princess' question and quickly brought Akito into the cellar. "Quick Princess, I need you to lay a couple of blankets on the floor and assemble a pillow at one end. He needs to lay down." he instructed, worried about Akito's wounds festering if he didn't care for them the way Sarah described.

Rufus took the carriage home, driving recklessly in an attempt to get there as fast as possible.

Trapped. Helena set up the bed for Akito whilst Kuro carried him down, then helped Meme set the candles around the room. They might need them later. Next she turned to the food basket, searching through it with a nod. Cook had intended to feed breakfast to five people, but since there was one less person it should stretch to the whole day. There was even broth, specially for Akito.
The coachman entered the house as Rufus instructed. "Close the door someone. I'll keep watch from up here and send Cook down when she arrives."
Akito woke as he was settled into the blankets and pillows, moaning in pain. "Where...?" he mumbled, coughing with a deep wince as he moved the flesh around some of the stitches. His throat was dry.

Meme watched the Princess separate the food but his heart stopped at the sound of Akito's voice. He came to his friend's side and wanted so badly to hug him but he was afraid of what wounds were underneath his blanket wrap. Meme watched Kuro rush to Akito's aid and kept quiet, ready for any instruction that might be given to him in a hurry.

Kuro gently settled Akito onto the blankets but kept him wrapped tightly so as not to disturb him too much. He quickly ran to the entrance of the stairs where similar carvings lined the doorway to the stairs and pressed the same area on the lion to close the fireplace entrance. Upon hearing Akito's voice, Kuro cursed. He hoped the boy would sleep even longer and give his body a chance to heal. Kuro rushed to Akito's side and brushed back the boy's hair. "Quiet. Don't move too much, the nurse stitched your wounds very well but if you move too much you could hurt yourself even more." he said softly. "How are you feeling?"

Trapped. Helena offered Akito the broth when he gestured. "His throat's dry." she guessed, recalling when she'd had a fever as a child: the coughs that came from trying to speak with a dry throat really tended to hurt. Of course, when she got close enough, she handed the container to Kuro, assuming he'd want to help with it instead.
Akito didn't answer, his eyes latching onto the liquid-container in Helena's hands. He didn't want to cough again, since it seemed to pull everything in his body at once, which hurt. He gestured towards Helena with his eyes.

Meme was furious, how could someone do something like this. "Princess...I'm sorry I don't know your name...can you tell me what happened to him?" he asked, not wanting to bother Kuro with his questions seeing as he was busy with Akito and Meme would have it no other way.

Kuro accepted the container of broth which was still warm. He took the lid off of the container and set it aside for a moment as he arched Akito's head on top of Kuro's knee so the boy could swallow easily. He took the container and placed it at Akito's lips. "Drink this slowly." he said softly, giving Akito small drinks at a time so the boy wouldn't choke on the liquid. Once he had felt the boy had enough to drink, Kuro placed the lid back on the tub and set it aside. "Thank you Princess." he said softly. "Better Akito?"

Trapped. "Helena, and I'm guessing you're the Prince's husband - or fiance, at least? And Akito's best friend? King Alaric attacked Akito and cut him when he didn't comply. Kuro got him out, but..." she kept her voice low, not wanting to disturb Akito with a recounting of what happened.
Akito nodded slowly, carefully. Then opened his mouth, paused, and spoke in a croaky voice. "Much, thank you. Didn't want to cough. It hurts, but worse if I cough." He smiled weakly, closing his eyes. "Thank you Kuro." He looked past Kuro to Meme. "Tell him... I'm ok." he whispered.

Meme was shocked, he couldn't believe a King would do this to his own servants. He hoped Rufus would do worse to his father, but what could they do? The guards wouldn't arrest their own King would they? What was going to happen? He heard Kuro speak his name and gave a soft sigh of relief at the message, glad his friend was okay. "Yes...I am Rufus' husband. And Akito has been my friend since we were small."

Kuro gave a soft sigh and nodded. "Meme...he's going to be okay." he said softly, turning his attention back to Akito and opening the blanket. "It's going to be cold but I need to dress your wounds." he said softly, looking down at a them and giving a soft sigh of relief. "Everything looks okay, I'm going to put on an ointment for them just in case okay?" he said softly, grabbing the tin and applying a layer of the ointment to the wounds, being as careful as he could so as not to add any more pain than Akito was already in. "Are you sure you're feeling okay? You need to tell me if you feel too hot or too cold alright?"

Trapped. Helena nodded. "Don't worry. He'll sleep for a while, then be a lot better. As to Alaric... I think Rufus may have a plan, but I'm not sure what it is." She wasn't certain on the plan, and though she suspected Alaric would end up dead, she couldn't exactly tell Meme of this suspicion.
Akito smiled softly. Kuro was always so careful with him, whether it was hiding his emotions or taking care of him. "I'll tell you." he promised, shivering as the ointment was rubbed into his skin. "That's cold, but it tickles." He frowned. "It's starting to itch..." He pulled his hands away from his body, wanting to scratch.
"Would someone hold my hands until I fall asleep? Scratching won't help."
