I love you, you love me...

Taranieth had to find that notebook. That meant he had to ask for it from the doctor. That meant he had to look human. That meant he had to ask Keegan for magic. And that meant sore ears.

But still, as he went to the doctor's house and knocked under a guise he hoped would stand scrutiny, he didn't regret it. It was for Patrick.

"Patrick Raphael Smith, if that is you then get your butt in here now! They are in desperate need of attention, and no matter how many times Thorn ends up at the foot of my bed, she still won't play with me."
A noise of disgust came out of her throat. "You'd think you'd learn - how are you going to take them with you when you leave in a couple of days? Your mother won't want them and you know it: it's why they're here!"

Isabella was moving papers around, looking for something as she spoke. Even if it wasn't Patrick - and it had to be, since no-one knocked (even Patrick sometimes snuck in to avoid her lectures) if there was an emergency - she guessed they wouldn't care about or understand her words anyway.
Besides, the village knew full well about this habit of his...

Taranieth frowned. He had no idea what nonsense she was blabbing. "I am not Patrick. May I come in?" he asked.

Isabelle blinked, then went to the front door to open it and let him in. "Of course you can come in, sir - are you passing through, have you had enough to eat - I mean, are you here because you feel faint? What symptoms do you have? I'll need to know to help you..."

As she spoke she put an arm around him to guide him inside and towards her kitchen. "Please excuse the mess - I haven't had time to clean up..." Even as she gestured with her free hand, it was clear that it wasn't as chaotic as she believed it to be: the piles of various things were disorderly, but not strewn everywhere.

Sounds that could be mistaken for small baby noises sounded from behind a closed door towards the back of the house, but she rolled her eyes with a wince as something seemed to crash towards the floor.

Taranieth smiled. "I am in perfect health, madam that is not why I am here. Patrick may have told you he was going on a trip soon- he will be with me from that time." he said. "I came because I am curious about certain past incidents."

Isabella gave Taranieth a curious expression, then shrugged. "I don't know if you're going to be teaching him or - well - going to be something else to him."

"Wouldn't surprise me. He hasn't shown interest in the local girls..." she muttered to herself before shaking her head and again focusing on the Faery with a considering expression.
"Which events in particular do you need information on? I might not have been he-"

She broke off with a blink, then put her finger to her lips and motioned for Taran to follow silently, smiling reassuringly to tell him her behaviour wasn't too strange: he'd want to hear this if he was to live with Patrick.

Patrick snuck into the Doctor's house, heading for the room with the closed door, behind which his kittens were playing.
Since no-one was around - to his knowledge - he entered and started giggling due to the fact that all four bundles of fur flew at him.
Thorn, a black and white kitten with a small scar by his nose, landed on his foot and immediately tried licking his trouser leg. Briar, the only - ginger - female kitten, pounced for his head and landed squarely in the middle of it to play with his hair.
He reached a hand down to the chocolate-coloured labrador puppy that nearly bowled him over, grinning as he stroked her ears gently. "Hey, Fudge! Steady, steady. I'm sitting - I guess that's what you're waiting for, huh, Snowy?"

There was the sound of him settling onto the floor carefully, then he fell back with Fudge licking his face, Thorn curling up on one knee with Snowy - a white kitten with a small patch of black over one side of her face - on the other. Briar had changed positions to his chest.
"Haha - that tickles, that tickles!" Even as he protested, he was stroking and hugging them in turn as long as he could reach.

Isabella had a huge grin on her face. "Love listening to him - that boy needs children, but he'd never be happy with any of the women in this village. His mother wouldn't look after them - too much work - so I let him leave them here..." she whispered.
"There's a hole we can watch him through if you want to...?"

Taranieth tried, unsuccessfully, not to laugh. Patrick was adorable. "Patrick would make a great mother. I think he was born the wrong gender." he said. And the wrong race. he added, but only in his head. "Thank you for leading me here. It is no surprise, but it is pleasant to know."

She nodded, inclining her head. "Do you want to go in to him? He loves watching them climb over new people - his sister, Emmy, seems to sneak in with him as often as she can. With his help, of course, since she can't walk that well on her own yet.
But if not then we can let him feed them before we catch up to him...?"

The lady doctor immediately stepped back, away from the room where Patrick was, lowering her voice even more as she maintained eye contact.
"To tell you all I know would make me remember what I don't want to, and use up all of your time, so... I'll just hand you something that will explain swifter and easier..."

Spinning on her heel, she headed to her office and opened the drawer where it hid beneath a whole sheaf of papers. Isabella turned to Taranieth with the journal in her hand, outstretched for him to take it.
"I don't want it back... but don't burn it until someone sees it - he used to have nightmares, I think, and he'll need to know that he wasn't just paranoid.."

Taranieth smiled. "Yes, of course. Thank you for everything. I promise to keep Patrick safe and happy to the very best of my ability." he said with a smile.

He ran home and flipped open the notebook. It read-

((No more option of 'say', 'ornamental' etc?! THAT SUCKS!
No it's not here. Not on the Guild posts - I think it's on the other forums, but I don't want to use them there so I haven't looked.
Emotes, italics etc, but no option for rolling dice or styles. Edit or not, the option isn't there crying
Just 'cause they made it all 'snazzy'!

. . . done and NOT adding more detail to it!))

The first page stood alone, it's paper brittle and browning. The words were legible, but the slanting style could be confusing:

I thought that my only vice was being attracted to those of the same sex.
All of my life I'd wanted the boy - not the girl as I as supposed to - next door. I thought I'd grow out of it - it wasn't the worst problem, afterall - but then... Ronan grew up.
I stared at him when I thought he wouldn't know I was watching, but my mind didn't change and the image of him in a 'position' of my choosing remained different, the person in it a decidedly small shadow without a face.

The next thing I knew, something small hurtled into my legs. The most gorgeous, delicious little boy, smiling with adorable sheepishness up at me as he apologised.
I don't know how I responded to him, what I said, but it didn't frighten him because he left with a cheery wave.

That 'shadow' in my fantasies had a name and face again...

There was a pause in the writing with a single dot where the line would begin, as though the author had hesitated in his confession, as though he could not bear to confirm it even to himself.
The tone changed, the author wishing to distance himself, perhaps, as though it were someone else's life.

I was my own village's doctor. I was interested in the human body, in what could affect it. But I mostly wanted to know what affect the body of those in my fantasies.
Normal. Yes. Entirely ordinary. Except my passions no longer ran merely to men.
No, not men. Small. Boys.
Children.

Specifically - great that my focus was so narrow, hmm? - Little Terry Markham. With the brown hair and bright smile, one tooth missing from an accident.

The rest was on the other side of the page, a short paragraph all that was left once the conscious decision was made to burn all else that would be written on the pages after.

I did not last long. My nights were haunted by images - thoughts - feelings that should have incinerated me in several ways. I thought I would go mad, holed up within sight - but never touch - of him.
Then he came in for an examination due to a slight fever that worried his mother. My hands wandered . . .

Then there were just ragged edges left in the spines and blank pages until the middle of the book, where the flower diagrams began.

I love you, you love me...

Taranieth put his hand to his mouth, breathing hard to alleviate the sickness he felt. He had to pause for a moment and go to the window before he came back to the ragged, half-burned pages, thankful it was only flowers from now on. It was with a grim satisfaction that he reflected on this man's death. Fae didn't often think of killing or even violence, but this.... no punishment was cruel enough for doing such things to a child.
