Standing up, he eyed Jane. "Oi...it's no big deal. I was just curious as to why you'd be in here with me, of all people in this base." Stretching, he yawned. "Ah, that was a good nap. Moving to his door, he held it open. "You wanna spar? I hear you're big on that."

Jane turned to watch Roran, grinning. "Of course." He hadn't lost in his memory- other than once or twice to Nico. "That is, if you know where the gym is." His eyes glanced over Roran softly, clear.

He stopped in his tracks. "Ah...um...well...good point." Scratching his head, he shrugged. "I have no idea where the gym is. Damn." Sighing, he looked at Jane. "If you don't know, we should ask someone..."

Jane shrugged. "This is the first time that the nurses actually let me out of that cursed bed." He said simply, trying to spot someone to ask.

"Well, then let's stretch your muscles." Finding someone who gave them directions, Roran led the way to the gym. Upon arrival, he took off all his firearms and placed them to the side. Drawing his sword, he held it lazily at in his hand. "Whenever you're ready."

Jane grinned broadly, taking out his rapier as he readied himself. "Ladies first." He commented, in a prepared position as he stood there. "First blood wins it." It seemed necessary to add. That was always how Jane dueled, but he wasn't sure if Roran did the same.

Roran grinned, eyeing Jane's wound. "How about first to draw blood," there was no point in a default win if Jane's wounds opened up again. Hearing the boy's slight insult, he nodded. "Then I guess it's your move." His hand gripped his sword, though his arm was still limp. He had never sparred with Jane. This should be interesting.

Jane nodded, still grinning. "Oh, no, no, no. I never make the first move." He said smoothly, his hand gripping his rapier in a ready position.

Sighing, he shook his head. "If that's how you want it." Placing one hand inside his jacket, he shifted his feet. Then it all happened in an instant. Rushing Jane, the hand in his coat took out a dagger and threw it at the boy, his arm with the sword flowing in an arc following the dagger. This charge was done with a straight face, no sign of effort shown. After all, he had been here for what seemed like forever. Sitting around and training. What else was there to do here?

Jane grinned, side stepping the dagger just barely as his rapier clanged against Roran's sword. "I didn't know that daggers were fair play." His voice was smooth. Now he had regained the memories of all the times he and his father had sparred... It seemed like so long ago. He took a deep breath, just moving his rapier in a way to block Roran's move.

He made no attempt at an offensive advance; at least, he seemed not to. Beneath his clear orange eyes was his brain, assessing each possible way to turn a defensive move into an offensive move. That was the way he'd been taught, and he had found that the method was much more effective much more often.

After having his attack parried, Roran back stepped. "Oi, I said spar. That entails swordplay. I don't see how a dagger is not fair. Firearms are of course out of the question, as is ranged weaponry such as a bow. But daggers are perfectly fine." Swinging an arm around to stretch, he grinned slightly. "After all, what good is sparring if it doesn't train you for the real world?" Eyeing the kid, he knew what was going through Jane's mind. It's what goes through every person's mind during a match. You need to find weakpoints, ways to make defense offense, offense defense, close distance, anything to give you an advantage.

Taking a step towards his opponent, he sighed lightly. He knew the flaw with the defensive strategy; it only lasts for so long. One can't defend forever. In swordplay, a good defense is not the best offense, for one slip up and it's all over. Swordplay requires offense. You can't win a match relying on defense. That's just how life goes. That's also why Roran loves swordplay. One must be skilled in offense and defense to be good.

Eyeing Jane's weapon, it finally registered that he was using a rapier. "Oi, may I ask why a rapier? Those things have no slashing power, your only hope is to stab. That's a disadvantage, is it not?" Chuckling to himself, he hadn't decided if he was talking about a disadvantage for Jane, or for himself. Him getting me to bleed with that thing would require me to get stabbed. Ouch. Taking another step, the distance between them was only a few meters now. "So who taught you? I assume you're more acquainted with fencing, but who fences for protection anymore?"

Jane thought carefully as he looked at Roran, sighing gently. "Sparring is a form of entertainment." Question number one, answered. His arm moved in an attempt to distract him with a direct stab, seemingly to disarm Roran, to the hand.

Once the stab moved to the point which Roran, if he were any sort of swordsman, would easily recognize a disarming technique, a safe one, Jane pulled a dagger out of its sheath. He used his left hand to move it carefully, sending it in a direct attack under Roran's direct peripheral vision, heading for the male's leg.

"My first weapon will be my last." Second question answered. His eyes glanced over Roran. "It isn't a disadvantage if you know how to use it. It is light, easy to maneuver. An advantage over your sword." Third question answered. Now for the fourth question... "My father." That answered the fifth as well, actually.

Roran, seeing the rapier's motion, easily sidestepped the disarm. And as any good swordsman should note, Jane's other hand was out of view. Using his foot to knock Jane's hand away, he backstepped again. "Now it's getting interesting," he mumbled under his breath.

Looking at his sword, what was Jane talking about? His sword wasn't a bulky western knight sword. If it had he wouldn't be allowing Jane to attack. Roran's was a very strong, yet light sword. Yes, a rapier was quicker, but speed is more dependant on the swordsman, not the sword itself. Hearing Jane's final answered, he clucked his tongue. "Hmmm, you remember then. Well, good for you."

Staring Jane down, there was no reason to attack yet. This was just a sparring match, and so why not have fun? That was why Jane sparred, at least. "At least you're adaptable," he murmured, gripping his sword a bit tighter.

Closing the distance again, he had to be sure to watch the boy's other hand. Clenching the hand that wasn't holding his sword, he loosened it soon after. No point in having a cramped hand.

Jane backed up from Roran, smiling calmly. He wasn't surprised Roran had managed to block the dagger; after all, he was one of Jane's team mates. They were all skilled fighters, as far as he had seen. His fingers twirled his dagger between them, and as it hit such a spiral that it would head straight for Roran's leg, he loosened his grip, allowing it to move straight forward rapidly.

He nodded softly to what Roran said. "Yes, I do. Thanks to Nico not being very specific earlier." He winked lightly, happy to know his past. Meaning he knew his next move was one of his fathers signatures. His rapier pointed to a spot that was remarkably odd for his style, the right chest area. He jaunted forward, his rapier nearing Roran.

As the knife flew, he backflipped, grabbing the hilt of the dagger as he went. Upon landing, he quickly reacted to Jane's thrust, stepping forward to meet the rapier and parrying it with Jane's dagger and sending his own blade to Jane's neck, though stopping it before it slit his throat. "Reckless charges do you no good." Stepping away from Jane, he dropped the dagger, it landing on his own foot. "I'm enjoying this more than I thought I would," he commented, a grin spreading across his face. He then brought his foot up, the dagger flying into the air. Gripping his sword like a baseball bat, he whacked the dagger, Jane's own blade flying towards him. Closing the distance with a walk, he expected Jane to throw the knife away. Following it up with a couple slashes, he added a thrust at the end for good measure.
