Moni relaxed into the kiss, the senses of the forest washing over him overwhelmingly. He got lost in the kiss and closed his eyes. These kisses... less than a century to enjoy them... but it would have to be enough.

Fryma wrapped on hand behind Moni's head and the other around his waist, pulling him closer until Moni was practically sitting in Fryma's lap.

Moni felt comfortable like that as they kissed, though he hardly noticed as the rustling of the trees and the calming sound of the river went through him. When they broke the kiss to breathe, Moni was completely dazed.

Fryma rested his forehead against Moni's and smiled. "Let's go see if we can't find some of those supernatural powers I was talking about. Hopefully, we can get the faeries to fight with us."

Moni nodded, still in a daze from the kiss and smiling as they went and found the faeries again. He let Fryma tell them what was going on, since he couldn't exactly speak.

Talking to the faeries took almost an hour of negotiating with the faeries, but in the end, Fryma won. "The faeries have agreed to fight with us only because it means their home would be destroyed too if they didn't help. They have no desire to help us. At the moment, at least. That might change." As soon as they had left the vicinity of the faeries' clearing, Fryma stopped and howled, calling for Swiftfoot. He explained to her what was happening and asked her to let as many creature dens as possible know.

Moka walked with him and watched as swiftfoot came, then nodded and took off. It seemed like their battle would be very, very soon. By the end of the day, just about every creature, animal or not, knew about the impending war.

Fryma led the way back to the tree house, feeling weary and depressed. He sat by the river and stared at the bottom. "Your mayor had a point, Moni," he said matter of factly after a few minutes. "Animals and trees are no match for men and their weapons."

Moni frowned at that. Fryma needed confidence right now.'Animals and trees or men and weapons are only as good as their leader. I don't think the mayor is a very good leader, do you?'

Fryma shook his head. "No. He is greedy and selfish, and that makes him ruthless. He will do whatever it takes to get what he wants." He was silent for a long time again before sighing. "But the forest will fight harder for its goal is more noble than you mayor's goal. This is our home, our lives. And we will fight harder than anyone to protect it." He looked up from the river bottom, smiling. "No one will conquer us."

Moni nodded in satisfaction and curled up into his side, exhausted from their trek all over the forest. He closed his eyes slowly before forcing them back open. After all, his family was still sleeping, and he wanted them to enjoy the bed without him hogging part of it. Where could he sleep until they woke up?

Fryma wrapped an arm around his waist and pulled Moni into his side. "It's not nearly as comfortable as the bed, but you can sleep out here with me, if you'd like."

Moni smiled sleepily and cuddled into the warmth, soon asleep and breathing softly. A bit of hair had covered his eyes and part of his face, but he didn't notice while he was asleep.

Fryma lightly brushed the strand out of Moni's face, smiling. They stayed that way until early morning when Swiftfoot came, growling out an urgent message. Fryma nodded grimly. "Get as much of the forest together as possible just inside the border of the forest, but where the villagers can't see you." Swiftfoot whisked away, and Fryma shook Moni awake. "It seems our battle has begun much sooner than anyone expected. We must get to the front lines as quickly as possible," he told the sleeping boy.

Moni nodded, befuddled before remembering his family. He quickly wrote out a message for them in the dirt and nodded, showing that they could go now. He didn't want his mother and sister to feel afraid and confused when they woke up.
