Vassili

Vassili let Sal snuggle into his side and he wrapped his free arm around her. It was nice to have such an easy going time. Her whisper though brought the reality of the unmarked car in to sharp relief. Vassili contemplated lying to her, but decided she might know. He started, realized she couldn't hear subsonic frequency and started again.

"I think it has something that Ferrari California sitting in the alley across from the cafe. Would you know anything about it?" He passed this exchange off as pulling some of the loose strands of her already perfectly arranged hair back into alignment.

"And probably something to do with Vincent, already being a punk." Vassili knew that wasn't the case, Naomi was stressing over something and taking it out on the closet thing to her.

Vincent

Vincent was taken back for a moment, resigned himself to the cold shoulder for a few hours at least. Still it wasn't going to deter him. He rummaged in the ice box, found a bottle of water, felt the gun and almost said something about it, then noticed the massive limo move. They were off and finally thought he should tell Naomi they weren't just going to dinner. He pulled his hand out of the ice box and looked at Vassili with a little bit of jealousy. He shook it off, knowing that Sal was just a bit more free.

"Here you go. And we aren't just going to dinner. Its dinner and a show, more specifically big band jazz." Vincent had opened the bottle for, not trying to be a gentleman, just friendly.

User ImageSal arched forward slowly in the pretense that Vas had tickled her as she checked in the back window for the car. She had not heard of a Ferrari, let alone a California, for a while. All of her previous dates had by chance never owned the brand. Now though, as the female took a peek and settled back into Vas' embrace, it required everything she had not to kick Nami in the shin hard. Instead, she wrapped her arms around Vas' neck and leaned onto him.

"It had been my father's car," she breathed against him, her face hidden from the other pair, "Of course, my father is dead but the company, the company for which he worked wouldn't mind recycling their vehicles. I don't know any more than that but it's obvious that Nami does." When she was finished, Sal kissed his neck and turned to face their neighbors with a bit of a giggle. "Oh, I'm sorry guys. Necking in public, what would Mom think of me, Nam?" She let loose another ribbon of silly laughs and blushed on cue, eyeing them to see if they had bought it.

Naomi
"Sometimes the idea of love should just leave me alone."

User ImageNaomi rolled her eyes but accepted the water bottle from him. "Thank you," said quietly, allowing the sudden movement of the limo to jar her nerves. She took a sip. In a few minutes, the Ferrari would pull out and stick behind them for most of the ride. For the times that it would not be in view, Jordan would be on another road but still en route to wherever they were going. He was just that good."

"Oh?" Naomi asked, looking over at him, "Which one are we going to, first?" She stole a sip before her sister started making herself obvious. She eyed her as the false giggling and unnatural shy behaviour came. If tonight went alright, she would tell her what was going on. The Cafe manager was counting on it. It was her past that kept her from pulling Vincent closer. She needed him at arm's length or further for his own safety. Jordan had made that choice for her amongst others.

×I never promised you that I would not be that guy...

User ImageAt last, they were on the move. Jordan waited for them to pass the first light before exiting his hiding spot, headlights on. He was not delusional enough to believe that Naomi had spoken about him to other passengers. She had always been one who strived for autonomy. However, her brief disappearance from the window had bothered him slightly. His target was on edge, probably was not thinking as straight as she would like to. This made him smile. A mistake on her part could only be an advantage for him. He turned as the limo turned, deciding that it would be better to stay with it for the beginning of the drive. There was always the possibility of his ex-girlfriend changing the plans on him and he had to be ready this time.

Vassili

Vassili chuckled darkly as she laughed.

"Yes what would your mother say?" His hand slid up her leg to the hem of her dress and rested lightly on her stroking the skin softly.

"We're going to dinner first, I hate seeing show with a growling stomach. The show is much more than a big band ensemble, it is a variety of acts, one after the other. The main feature is the big band." He took a sip of the wine savoring the taste, nearly equating it to the taste of Sal's skin, but she still tasted better. He leaned in and nuzzled her neck lightly, enough to hide his mouth.

"What company would your father have worked for? Does your sister have any weapons you know of? Laugh now."

Vincent

Vincent finally picked up on something was wrong as he could hear the forced nature of Sal's laughs. IT was killing his buzz from earlier in the day when Naomi and him and shared, for a brief moment a good moment. Now though it was turning into a bad night. He knocked the rest of the wine back in two gulps trying to desensitize himself to the situation, but decided against and grabbed a bottle of water, not another glass of wine. If only he could read minds, then he would know how to comfort the vivacious woman next to him. He had a sneaking suspicion that Vas could read minds, or was better at reading people than any other human on the planet. Still Vincent decided to push his luck and seek out Naomi's hand. He found it and trying to seem like an absentminded thing, began to stroke her fingers softly.

User ImageHe did not have to tell her twice. The light tickle of his breath against her neck again was almost enough to distract her but she laughed when he said, not glancing at the others. Sal tugged on his shirt, ducking her head into him and holding his other hand in place at her leg.

"It was a company with no name. All he told us was that he was in the line of security, securing what is a good question. As for Nam, our mom gave her a knife when she was five but she started to use it openly after their deaths. I think she blames herself." This stung. For all the years, she had blamed herself and never once considered that Naomi was thinking along those lines as well. Fresh tears sprang at her eyes but she wiped at them casually, pulling out of Vas' hold completely. People always thought that she was so different from her sister. That was not completely true. They shared a past and they both hated it.

Naomi
"Sometimes the idea of love should just leave me alone."

User ImageNaomi had ceased watching the mirrors constantly. Her gaze wandered ever so often to the scene flying past in her window to the screen door that separated them from the driver. This lead her to the other couple, making their little noises and trying not to be obvious about it. She would have snorted in pretend disgust if it did not please her oddly that her younger sister had found another, better purpose for her flirtacious capabilities. She allowed a small smile at this and returned to staring into the mirrors. Jordan was still behind them by two car spaces. You do not want to alert your target especially when they already have an inkling that you are there.

That was when she felt it. Vincent put down his water and began stroking her closer hand in a delibrately offhand manner. The motion almost caused her to yank her hand away and smack him across the head for it. Instead, she permitted it and made no move to stop him. It was calming in a weird way. Currently, she needed that but alcohol would have relaxed her for too long. Apart from Vas, the other two would be in trouble. Naomi sighed and leaned against the window. She was going to regret this but it was more than likely that Vas knew what little Sal could provide and she needed backup.

"Vas, we're being followed. You have probably seen it already and identified the vehicle. The driver belongs to a company which had a great interest in my mother, so much so that they had her killed. My father worked for them. Apparently, I inherited this "great interest". I do not know why they are so preoccupied with me. Sal has nothing to do with it - for now. Anyway, I know the driver and I know how they work. Just as you are getting suspicious of actually being followed, they turn off your course but they already had their own. He will turn most likely when we are three blocks from the restaurant. I want you to drop me out at that point and go ahead please. He has not made contact as yet so is hoping for it at our first destination."

Her hardened eyes flickered over to him and rested on Sal. There, they softened. "I'm sorry that I didn't tell you. Mom made me promise and she knew that I would protect you at all costs. Dad didn't tell her why. His only mission was to get close and kill her. Mission accomplished." She turned to face Vincent. "I told you not to get involved and no, you can't come. He wants me and frankly, I think he has been waiting too long." She had said all of that with a level voice, emotionless. Now, Naomi refocused her attention on the Ferrari as it kept its precise distance behind them. He did not know her anymore despite what he might be thinking at that exact moment.

User ImageAs he drove behind them in complete silence, Jordan prayed that Naomi did not pull a fast one on him. He wanted to do his job, do it well and get out of this time-warped hell as soon as possible. He knew his superiors were taking a risk sending him on this particular outing. Ties to the target had always backfired but that was the main reason for which they had chosen him above everyone else. It had nothing to do with his prowess as a field agent. They wanted to test his loyality as if he had not been trying to prove it since their acceptance of him ten years ago. Her mistakes were his advantages. However, her altered plans were his downfall, one way or another. Jordan stepped on the gas, pulling closer to them, anxious with just the thought of it all.

Vassili

Vassili slid a little farther away from Sal and looked at Naomi with a hard glare. His eyes had turned from glowing crimson to near black crimson. They were dead for all intents and purposes. He reached into the ice box and pulled the piece out. He chambered a round and slid the gun into his jacket.

"Or we'll take option two. Have a good evening, ignore the man in the Ferrari and enjoy ourselves. If he wants he can try to start something with a man who thought he was done killing. A man who has been through the jaws of Hell and came back with the scars to prove it and he can either stand or die." Vassili turned to Sal. His enhanced eyesight saw the water mark on around her eyes.

"If you want to protect your sister, you don't abandon her. You stay with her and protect her." He felt the limo start to slow and the stop. The Ferrari mimicked the limo and to pulled to a stop.

"Now what's it going to be Naomi. I have put my lot up with you, and have given you half of everything I have. A complete stranger has put his trust in you, will you trust me?" He held out his hand to her.

"Sink or swim Naomi?"

Vincent listened and wanted to scoff at her idea, heard the chamber on the pistol being racked and knew Vassili was on the ball with this. You couldn't slip anything past this guy.

"I like how my pretty deep speeches earlier in the day having no meaning now. Like I was talking to myself it is. Now hear this you bloody stubborn woman, I am going to take whatever you can throw at me and not complain one ******** bit. User ImageAll Sal could hear was that her dad had killed their mother on purpose. She did not care if they were being followed. Nami had said that she was not in danger. Gosh, were her thoughts of a selfish nature or what? Then, Vas took out the gun and she cowered away, pulling her knees to her chest again but listened intently to his words. It was hard to distinguish if they were meant for her or Naomi. She wanted to believe that they held some truth for her as well. Then, Vincent started in with his piece. She did not know the content of his "pretty deep speeches" but obviously, he was being more stubborn than Nami had ever been. Sal unlocked herself and scooted over to her sister. She wrapped her hands around the other woman's waist and waited for her response to all of this. "I am with you on this, whichever way you go."

Naomi
"Sometimes the idea of love should just leave me alone."

User ImageNaomi was furious with herself for opening her big mouth. Vas was trying to guilt her into accepting his help whereas Vincent was trying to be the hero - still. She fought back what tears she could and tried to clear her mind, only vaguely aware of her sister's location change. First, she spoke to Vassili. "He's going to want to speak to me sooner or later and is probably banking on sooner. I still say let me go to him but obviously you two have different plans. If you do let me go, I want Sal here. She has a better chance here than in that car. I don't see it as a "sink or swim" situation. I'm just trying to keep our heads above water for as long as possible. I thank you for all that you have done for me," she placed her hand in his, "Swimming should do that though."

"As for you," she faced Vincent, still holding Vas' hand, "They do mean something and I had been hoping that I would not have to deal with this for a long time. Secondly, I never said he was going to kill me but yes, he is a hitman. What he needs right now is information and it's info that I don't even know about. Dramatics are not going to make him or the company go away." She released Vas and stretched over to him, grabbing his hand back because she knew that he missed it. A sigh escaped her and she shrugged off her coat at last and unzipped one of the layers of her dress. In the back of her waist, the handle of a sheathed KA-BAR combat knife could be seen. "However, if you want to help so much, I need you not to get yourself so easily shot. Okay?"

She returned her attention to Vas. "So, will you let me go now? He's not going to make the first move if that's what you're waiting for. I don't see the restaurant and he knows that this is a premature stop. He will not come here first. Knowing the nature of this job, it has to be clean. No fuss should be made unnecessarily. Get the info and get out." Naomi sighed and leaned forward with Sal's arms around her. She needed family at a time like this but she wished their aunt was still with them, still with her. There was so much Sal did not know and for all her talk, Naomi had left out the main reason why she knew so much about this particular man. They used to be for one another instead of against.

User Images**t. She told them. The little - girl - told them. What was he supposed to do now? Premature stops were not part of the plan. They go to the restaurant. He intercepts her there, gets what he needs by whatever means and gets out. Now, he could not approach her at all until she was alone or she came to him. He considered the latter very unlikely. Jordan looked over at the gun in the front passenger seat. The rule was that you did not engage unless the circumstances were as favorable as they were going to be in a long time. He did not know about the other men in the limo. His focus had been the girls for so long that he had managed to forget about reserching friends. At this point, family was not an option for them. Disconcerted, Jordan slouched in his seat, turned off the headlights and waited for them to come to him, specifically for her to do this.
