"I understand," Sophia adjusted her thin framed glasses, for a woman of a certain high-respected stature, she was quite beautiful. Her golden blonde hair fell low past her shoulders as she turned towards Danika. "My father was the exact same way, he was also a politician and I was once a CPF officer." Grabbing a file from a nearby table, she opened it up, "however, we need you to perform a service to the city. It involves your father."

------

Umi looked at his master on a nearby hospital bed, his body was still large and sculpted as he remembered it but the hideous scars littered his torso extending all over his body. The nurse in the room seemed nervous of Vulcan, unaware of what had happened to him. "Try not to speak loudly," the nurse mentioned to Umi, whispering in his ears, "we just recently unfroze him, his senses are still readjusting." The nurse left the room, closing the door slowly behind her. "Umi, you don't seem happy that I'm awake," Vulcan commented, "why is that?" He was right, he didn't really like the fact that he was alive, not after the first rebellion. "You know my reason."
"Ah, yes, I remember the words you left me before you parted and betrayed me."
"It wasn't betrayal, it was a disagreement of beliefs."
"Hah! You swore your loyalty to me!"
"Not if you sacrifice the lives of innocents, that was the last straw and I don't want anymore blood on my hands."
"You're soft! Roman wouldn't have questioned the method!"
"Roman is dead! It was because of you! You made him follow your mandate!"
"That is... Unfortunate," Vulcan looked downwards on to his bedspread.

Umi felt disgust looking at Vulcan, he always favoured Roman over himself. They were like brothers but also rivals, Vulcan would always say that Roman would be the "voice of the rebellion", that he would usher in a new force against the CPF. Well, that part actually did happen, but also caused his untimely end. Umi knew Vulcan's method would be the end of Roman but he did not listen. "So, what happened?" Umi asked, "I've wondered for years on how we lost the fight."
"I found out the truth," Vulcan replied, "and I don't think you're ready to hear that."
"You're probably right," Umi helped Vulcan out of the bed, putting on some clothes that that the hospital provided. "I gather you won't stop me from finding out myself."
"Oh, do so on your own volition."
"Fine. Since your place was destroyed, I'll let you stay at my place for a while."

Danika paused. "I don't know if I could. It would depend on what the mission requires of me. He is still my father after all..." She said sheepishly as she began to fidgit with the wooden bracelets on her wrist . .

Carmela, once things were settled down, headed back to find Asuka, and possibly help him if he wasn't having as much luck as she was. .

"I see," Sophia pressed her glasses against her face, "the mission won't affect your fathers current charges against the city." She looked at Danika, examining her emotions, she was obviously tense with her current circumstances, "we've been observing your father for a year now believing that he had his own agenda in his wrong doings; however, with his current actions we believe that someone else is actually calling the shots." She shifted her body to bring the file closer to Danika, "what we want is to find out who that person or group is, and you'd be the best candidate since you are in fact the suspects daughter. In return, we'll lower the charges against your father -- which currently stands as treason, meaning the death penalty." She looked at Danika sternly, staring directly into her eyes, "you get us that information, you get your father back, of course he will have to serve some time, but that's merely a formality. Unless you refuse - decide quickly, his trial is in three weeks."

Danika listened, and decided. If someone else was calling the shots, that meant her father stood a chance, and with the deal that was being offered, she was now determined to find out who was behind it ."What do I need to do?" She asked, ready for whatever she was getting herself into. .

"Great!" Sophia replied, "you decided faster than I predicted." She pressed a few buttons on a panel next to her, bringing up a highly detailed map of the city - so much detail that you'd be weary of how they obtained all of it. "As you know, Senators cannot be jailed before conviction. So your father will be placed under house arrest for the next three weeks. You'll just need to watch him, see if he tries to contact anybody," she pointed to the outskirts of town, "we also want you to investigate the northwestern wall. We've seen packages being transported to that area from the Hessler Complex. Ironically, it was via traceur, so we've never been able to apprehend any suspects. Find out what they're delivering." Sophia stood up and turned off the monitor, hearing voices outside of the van, "bring your most trusted officers on this mission, but keep your lips sealed. You are dismissed. "

((Sorry for not posting lately >.< Was overwhelmed with HW))

Asuka sat down on a nearby curb, obviously worn out by the night's events. He had been up and down the street, trying to clear up the angry mob that had gathered. Now was the first time that Asuka was able to sneak in a little time for a break.

He took a scan up and down the road in front of the Parliament. Most of the civilians had been cleared and returned safety to their homes. Mr. Hessler was moved to CPF headquarters, where Asuka had no idea what they will do to him. Now Danika had been taken aside by a politician, to be discussed in private.

What a day...
He sighed, clearly drained from all that had happened throughout the day.

Danika tried to give her a small smile before she began to list off what she had to do. In her mind she was making a mental checklist. 'Spy on dad and see if he tries to contact anyone, two, check out northwestern wall, three find out what is being delivered, and bring my most trusted officers with me.' She nodded, then was dismissed. As she headed out of the van, then began to search out Carmela. Once she was found, she called out to her old friend. "Carmela!!" .

Upon hearing her name called, she automatically searched for the source. "Danika?" She said at the approaching figure. Carmela came closer, then listened as Danika explained her predicament, and requested she help her. "Hmmm, alright then. There is someone else that would be good for this too." She said before telling her, and searching for that someone. Once she saw him, she approached with Danika. "Asuka, we have a mission. Would you like to help?" She asked, he looked worn out. .

Asuka looked up at the mention of his name. He saw Camela and Danika standing over him. His first thought was to wave them away, telling them to not bother him. He was more worn out then he had ever been in his whole life, and he didn't need anything else to worry about right now.

That, however, was only momentary.
Upon, the mention of a job, Asuka shot up, completely forgetting the weariness he had felt just seconds ago. He first looked at Camela, then at Danika. Danika seemed to be in thought, as if pondering over something. Most likely what that politician told her. Not wanting to disturb her, Asuka shifted his attention to Camela.

"Of course," Asuka replied, his tone mild and steady.
"What do we need to do?"

Carmela felt bad for disturbing him when he clearly seemed tired. "Um, actually, it's Danika that needs us." She said, snapping her friend out of her reverie.

Danika looked up at Asuka. "Oh, yes. I'm gathering a few trustworthy officers to help me. It's about finding out who really is behind my father's actions." She explained. He did look tired. "However, I think it would be best to rest a bit, I'm sure today has been tiring for us all. Don't want to get sloppy just because we are tired, now do we?" She asked, for the day had drained her emotionally. .

Umi entered his apartment in the northern residential district, the sun was now slowly rising in the distance and the fighting was now over. He had wanted to continue providing first aid to the injured in the fight, but Vulcan was much more important. "Well, it isn't much, but this is it," Umi commented, "make yourself at home."
"Second floor of the building, huh?" Vulcan walked over to the nearby comm station, where handlers would usually occupy. Umi's station was special, they had vitality monitors to all traceur affiliated to Vulcan, Roman had a similar station set up at his home even though both of them weren't handlers. Vulcan looked at the vitality monitors, surely enough Roman had flatlined, "so, it's true. He's actually dead."
"You think I would lie about this?"
"No, but I had my doubts," Vulcan replied, "but the real question is: when did you stop running?"
"Four or five years now but it looks like I may need my skills back."
"Ah yes, your investigation; honestly, I think you are much better skilled than Roman, so I don't think you'd have any problems with returning."
"Flattery won't make me take the title of 'Roman', I told you before, I'm done with your rebellion."
"You'd make a perfect replacement, but you don't have the drive!"
"No, end of discussion. I don't want to know how many people have died using that name."
"Then don't expect any help from me."
"Never did, besides you already know what I'm looking for, even if I did help you, you wouldn't tell me."

Asuka nodded, relieved that they would at least have the time for a night's sleep before their next assignment. Asuka had been looking forward to a bit of respite.

Spying on Mr. Hessler.... Even more to do with all these crazy things that have been happening in this city...
Something big is going to happen, and its going to happen soon...We had best be prepared by then.

Asuka reached into his pocket and pulled out his cellphone, a chunky block that slides open to reveal a full QWERTY board. He looked up at the two officers.

"If we're going to be working together, it would be best that we be able to contact each other at any given time. Would you mind if I ask for your numbers?"

[grammar and spelling errors! Too much sake last night]

Sophia Bard re-entered the Parliament building, she watched as a few men pulled Hessler's body out of the armor, and covering him in a blanket to be transported back to the Hessler Complex. Under city bylaw, she had assigned an enter regiment of CPF officers to watch Hessler in his home. She walked over to Roman's body which was limp and impotent over top debris strewn along the wall. She searched his body for his communicator, hoping it was still intact, while she was helping Roman as his handler, she had a feeling that someone else was listening in -- she couldn't trace it on her end, it was a closed system that Vulcan designed back in the day.  Reaching under his shirt collar, she pulled out a thin film that seemed important. It must be what she was looking for, "I know you're listening."

Meanwhile, at Umi's apartment...

The comm station suddenly turned on, and a soft female voice emitted from the speakers, "I know you're listening."
"That's... Sophia Bard? By the devil, how has she been?"
"You know her Vulcan? She has been helping Roman over the past few years, I've just been evesdropping."
"So she's been helping Roman? That's unexpected, she never liked my line of work."
"You never answered my question, how do you know her?"
"Her real name is Sophia Bard Archibald."
"She's your wife?! How come I've never heard this before?"
"You never asked. Besides, she quit being a traceur long before I met you."
"She's a traceur too?! Senator Bard is a traceur?"
"Well that I didn't know. I guess she always had a sharp tongue, not surprised that she's a politician now."

Her voice repeated through the speakers, "identify yourself, we know you've been listening to us for the past few years."
Umi got irritated, "will you hold on a sec? I'm trying to have a conversation with your husband."
"Oh no, now you've done it."
"Who are you? How do you know who I am?" Sophia asked.

Umi stepped away from the microphone, turning back towards Vulcan. "I guess that explains why she's been helping the traceurs."
"The traceurs? You don't consider yourself one now?"
"I told you, I quit. Now I'm going to have a conversation with your 'wife'."

Carmela pulled out her phone, and told him her number, watching as Danika pulled her's out as well and did the same. This was an important job, the three of them knew it, and, quite possibly the biggest the would deal with .

Danika also told Asuka her phone number and waited to hear his, before putting her phone away. "I appreciate this, you two. This is important, and best kept a secret.." She said, knowing that word didn't need to get out about this mission.

PostPosted: Sun Nov 22, 2009 3:42 pm

Umi attached the microfilm to his shirt collar, tapping on it to check his microphone levels. "Oh, I know more about you than you think. Well, now I do..." Umi replied into the microphone, "now, what do you want?"
"What I want to know is: who are you and what are your goals?" Sophia replied, this was her only lead so far, she couldn't recognize the voice, and she'd been through every traceur profile in the city.
"Well, that's a tough question, my name is probably not as important as you think, and my goal is... The truth."
"The truth? What do you mean?" Sophia was puzzled, it didn't sound like he wanted to give out any information.
"Well, I have some questions for you."
"You won't give me any information, and you expect me to give you information. It looks like we're at a standstill."
"Fine. I'll bite, my name is Umi Kei, I'm the candidate of succession of the title Roman, or I was."
"You were?"
"Lets just say I don't agree with a certain party."
"That information was hardly useful. You're not mentioned in any profile I have, I have no way of trusting you."
"Well, would it help if I gave the mic to Vulcan?"
"He's with you?"
"Well, that's a different story. Now tell me, what are you investigating. There must have been a reason you were helping Roman."
"I'm not at liberty to say."
"Well, you could tell me, or I can leak that you were a traceur."
"Blackmail then?" Sophia didn't expect that he knew all this information, he was asking about the investigation, so that meant he wasn't a suspect. Perhaps she could get him to work  alongside her, judging by his demeanor, he was quite intelligent and possibly the best outside source she had. "Fine, we're investigating the true culprits behind the Hessler coup."
"That's a given," Umi replied.
"Also strange deliveries stemming from the Hessler Complex to the northwestern wall."
"The wall?" Umi remembered something Roman once told him, but he couldn't remember the specifics, "No, it can't be!"
"What? What's wrong?" Sophia shouted back.
"Sorry, I have to cut this short," Umi replied, "if I feel generous, I'll call you later."
"Hello? Hello?!" Sophia listened but only static remained.

Asuka nodded, after giving his number, a weary grimace on his face. Whatever is going to happen, its going to be BIG. Someone is playing the CPF for fools. Asuka could feel it; What some would call one's "gut" feeling. And he didn't like the feeling his "gut" was giving him.

"It is best that the assignment be known only to us," Asuka agreed. Anymore would just cause unneeded problems.

Seeing Danika uncomfortable, perhaps tired, Asuka tried to put in a word of comfort.
"Don't worry about; We are glad to help. After all, it is our job."

I seriously have to get better at this kind of thing; Using the same phrase over and over again... It's kind of sad...
Asuka mentally gave himself a slap on the head.

"In any case we should get a night's sleep before we head out on this one. See you tomorrow," he waved to the both of them.

Checking one more time up and down the road for any other disturbances that needed to be quelled. Seeing none, he excused himself. Asuka started walking down the road, perhaps to find a transit or catch a taxi back to his apartment.
