That certainly wasn't what she wanted to hear, but she dipped her head in some kind of understanding. "Alright... but... please, try to make it stop? I don't want to lose you..." Lorey reached up to kiss him, smelling the remnants of smoke on him. If learning to deal with that was one thing she had to compromise on... then, that is what she would do.
After a few seconds, she pulled away. Her side hurt, but she would sit in just a moment. "You mean the world to me."

Richard reached out and stroked her hair with one hand. "And you to me...I'll work on it I promise...alright?" He gave her an optimistic smile before turning towards the food. "looks amazing. Shall we dig in?" He clasped his hands together and gave her a goofy face.

She laughed, making her eyes light right up. It seemed, besides the drunk man on the floor, that everything would be alright. "Of course..." With great care, Lorey sat herself down. She'd already made herself a plate of food, and poured herself some juice before going to get Richard.
"Do you think it's possible for the rest of our day to go quietly, or..." Well, she thought, nodding to Damian with a rather funny look of her own.

Who knows...the poor fool doesn't know what he's doing any more...we've just gotta treat him like the child he's acting like. This is just a phase for him. Raquel was simply a fleeting fancy that made the hurt go away...She meant no more to him than that bottle next to him...both had the same effect..." He poured himself a cup of coffee as his words came out cold yet strangely casual.

"You never know," Lorey said, eating a bit of toast before going on. "Maybe he did have true feelings for her. I mean, when I left his life, he didn't go chasing after me and obsessing like this... then again, he has lost his father. And his business. And his sanity, for the most part."
Lorey looked down at him again, then back up to Richard. "It might just be all of that loss all at once that makes him like this."

Richard merely shrugged a he picked at a bit of eggs. He didn't want to give him the benefit of the doubt, or anything close to it. He had tried to be cordial with Damian from the beginning, ecspecially after showing them a little kindness. But now all of that was out he window. "To hell with loss...there's too much of it in this world to drink it all away...trust me, I've been there myself. He's just got to pick himself up and get along with his life..." He sighed taking a solemn bite.

"Well, if he wants Raquel in it, we'll just have to stand by and let him do what he wants." Lorey didn't eel the need to pry or change anything that didn't have to do with her and Richard. But, the conversation did make her think... "You know... when I lost my mother or any friend... I never thought about drinking, or any of that. Sometimes I wondered what it would be like to die, too, but I would never seriously do that. I think I just started working more... It's a wonder I didn't just go insane."

Richard nodded, understanding. "Everyone has different ways of grieving..." He took a few more bites of his breakfast. "Some are just healthier than others.." He chuckled to himself, picking at his food a bit more.

Lorey nodded. Obviously they had different ways of handling themselves... but it was alright. "I'm starting to get nervous about that job application... I also put in for a flower shop, and I'm not sure which one I'd want more... if I even get both." She really didn't have the best experience ever, nor did she have recommendations or positive feedback from any one employer. Whoever hired her would have to do so on a whim...

Richard smiled. "I could see you working at either...Though I doubt you'd get the flower shop job if they caught one look at you..." He looked down, taking a sip of his coffee, pausing a moment. "You'd put all those flowers to shame...they wouldn't want that..." He smiled up at her coyly, giving her a little wink.

"Oh, stop." Lorey laughed, blushing like she always did. She flung a little piece of crust at his face, still smiling like a goof. "And what about the cafe? Would I put the pastries and coffee to shame, too?" Though she wasn't being serious, Lorey still loved egging little things out of him.

"Oh no...that's not it at all..." He cocked an eyebrow, taking another sip of coffee. "Customers would be coming in just to see you. They wouldn't buy anything. That just wouldn't do." He smirked, pretending to ignore her. "Besides It'd make me too busy...I'd have to be there EVERY day to beat the guys off..." He said a bit more serious but stole a look to see her reaction.

"You would not!" Lorey was laughing more out of nervousness than anything. "So then where am I to work? You've eliminated the flower shop, the cafe... what about a library? A nice, quiet little place. I couldn't cause trouble there." Aha, she thought, with a triumphant grin. He can't think up anything for that one.

Richard set his cup down. "Well I can see two problems there..." He smirked, knowing he had her now. "One is that I'd never see you love, You'd spend all your free time reading." He gave her a knowing wink. "Secondly, It would cause a planet wide phenomenon. Out of the blue, every man on Veratia would suddenly have an undying urge to read more, and would come in droves to the very library you worked at...It'd be rather bothersome to play security..." He gave he a devilishly handsome grin as he studied her lovely face.

Lorey gave a staged, exasperated huff as she threw her hands up in the air. It seemed her cheeks would never cool down. "Then what am I to do? I can't serve food, I can't sell flowers, and the library would steal my soul. Since you're the expert here, darling, you tell me how I should earn my living." Lorey put her chin on her folded hands, peering at him with mischievous eyes. "Nothing too complicated, now."
