Without purpose, Holly followed the two, keeping a safe distance from them. Her thoughts were muddled and clouded, and to add to her growing headache, these two, who probably had much more experience than her in dealing with this "Ether", were fighting.

Behind them, almost unnoticeable, a gray cloud peeked over the horizon.

Narissa, coiled around Holly's ankle and looking for any mice to eat, flicked a barbed tongue out. The air had grown heavier with humidity. Not enough to attract anyone's notice, unless they were sensitive to weather changes, but Narissa could feel it, as well as other animals.

Shef met Falian's gaze fully. He seemed to examine her for a moment, not physically, but more like an examination of her character. It only took four seconds in Shef's company for others to learn he was a lazy coward, as accused, and yet, Shef had already stated that he wanted to rescue his father. Somewhere along those lines was a silent statement of how much he desired to see his once-elusive, presently-missing father.

"I am a coward," Shef replied. "But I do want to save my father."

Shef turned to silently gaze at Regond. Since no one seemed to know much about Malis and Lumah except for Regond, it was apparently up to this bird and his judgment. But Regond had already said his peace. He did not believe that, at the present time, Shef was strong enough. That much was certain.

Shef awaited Regond's response to his silent inquiry.

((My course of action would be for Regond to say no, not yet. WAIT and THEN attempt to rescue, once he's stronger. But Kaye may have a different opinion, and has told me that he shall be posting today. We'll just... wait and see if that is true.))

((It is true. You shut up! No, no, I'm kidding. Happy end of the term, everybody. I have successfully failed to successfully not fail to fail not failing to fail successfully failing to fail not failing to pass school. Successfully.))

Regond looked away, thinking about what to say. He then turned his wise owl head back to Shef and sighed.

"We cannot... rescue your father yet, my boy." he said gravely, "You are not ready. Your performance with the Swords of Ether was pitiful."

He turned his head towards the nearby forest and pointed at it with his wing.

"A portal to the Ether is nearby." he said, "If you are willing to learn, I will teach you. But know this; you will never be able to rescue you father without first learning the ways of the Sacred Gaia."

-----

Yemits ceased spinning, turned and glared at the threat, his eyes burning with rage. He clutched the tiny sword, pulled it out of him with ease and crushed it in his fist, then opening his hand and letting the fragments of sword fall to the ground. He held out his beastly hand, which started glowing with a bright green color, and suddenly dozens of long branches shot out of the ground and sped towards Calentine with the intent to bind him and pull him under.

Zaccheus came to a halt several yards away from Yemits and Calentine and roared, the type of sound you'd hear from dinosaurs on a Jurrasic Park movie.

Zoey whooped, "We're here!" She exclaimed. Obviously.

Calentine did not need to turn his head to see who had just roared, or who had just gaily whooped in excitement that statement. Because he could already see them. Calentine drew his second sword with his right hand, and a long knife with the other. Calentine then began to spin himself, ignoring the new arrivals and focusing on slicing every branch before they could get close. Calentine could, even when spinning, see and note the exact position of every branch at every point in time, and also could see exactly what Yemits himself was doing, along with the others. It was as if he could see in every direction simultaneously, without pause.

Eventually, when enough plant life was cleared, Calentine sheathed both blades in one fluid motion, then performed a backward somersault, vaulting off of his hands and rebounding off of his feet, to land in the high branches of another tree.

For he had thought Yemits a monster, he had not spoken. But with the arrival of people....

"Tell me," Calentine called out, "are you a Guardian?"

~

Shef sighed. "If he's been kidnapped, then there isn't enough time, Regond. I'll... do something, but I won't hide. Not like my..." Shef paused.

"Anyway. I'll go it alone, or you can help me."

It wasn't spoken, but Shef would probably accept help from Falian, Reign, Holly, Narissa, Alhiria, and Alhiria's Guardian, but he wouldn't ask. Something about having Regond around seemed to have slightly changed Shef, over time. Maybe the changes weren't done yet....

((As always, Hayato manages to, with her avi, look both simple and elegant.))

((Aww, thanks, Z 4laugh ))

It seemed that Zaccheus was either completely ignoring Calentine or didn't hear him at all. The behemoth turned his head to Zoey, what she interpreted as a sad look on his face. He moaned lowly.

"I'll read to you later, Zaccheus, but right now I think he's asking you a question..."

Zaccheus shook his head back into place and slumped down onto the ground.

((Actually, he's ignoring Zaccheus, too. He's asking Yemits.))

Regond smiled as well as an owl could.

"I will help you." he said, "I will help you gain what your father had before you, and soon you will be mighty as he was- er, is."

He flapped his wings, sending himself upward and hovering above Shef.

"We must go now." he said to the boy, "If any of your new friends wish to join us, then they can."

-----

Yemits stopped and folded his arms.

"I am Yemits." he bellowed, "And you are in my forest. Leave now, human trespasser, or nature will send you to your grave."
PostPosted: Fri Mar 20, 2009 8:13 pm

"This is not your forest," Calentine replied coldly. "And I assumed you a monster (with good reason). You charged and I reacted. I am Calentine--and I answer to no Guardian."

If that isn't the truth, a telepathic voice echoed throughout the forest, then call me a water moccasin.

Annoyed, Calentine glanced around. But he could not see Onstaan.

"Show yourself, you annoying reptile. I need your help against..." Calentine gestured at Yemits, assuming Onstaan could see, "and as usual, you are no place to be found."

A telepathic snort could be heard.

My... friends?

Shef glanced around. "Um... o...kay. Hey," he called, "any of you guys want to help?" Now that Regond had suggested it, Shef seemed to be back to his normal self... well, sort of. The others could say no, or they could agree, or they could say nothing and glare hatefully at Shef. Whatever they wanted to do, really.

Yemits clenched his fists.

"You've some nerve, trespasser." he bellowed, "If you leave now, you will be spared."

Raye got off of Zaccheus and ran towards Yemits, waving his arms frantically.

"Yemits!" he yelled, "Stop! Don't fight, you'll get hurt!"

Yemits ignored Raye and hunched his back, ready for any sudden movements from his human opponent.

"This is hardly a fair match," Calentine mused. "Is the self-proposed protector of the Sylstern ready to stoop to such lengths? I propose a proper duel, if that's what you like. My Guardian, and myself, and you and..." Calentine glanced over at Raye.

"That guy."

Please don't make me do this, Onstaan's thought-voice echoed throughout the wood.

((Well, up to you. I was under the impression that you wanted Calentine to join Raye and Zoey. They could, I suppose, but the two hotheads (Calentine/Yemits) will have to be put in a time-out by their respective partners for that to happen. Or we could have a massive dragon/turtle fight.))
PostPosted: Fri Mar 20, 2009 9:25 pm

((dragon v. turtle. An epic battle of invincible juggernauts sounds intriguing.))

"Keep the boy out of this." bellowed Yemits, "This battle is between you and I, trespasser. Send out your Guardian! Maybe he will give me a good challenge."

"Yemits..." sighed Raye quietly.

Calentine glanced around. "Sure... Onstaan. You have a challenger. Or would you let this massive... er... being crush me to death?"

Yes, but you wouldn't. Just a second....

Calentine tapped his foot. He glanced around--which was a redundant thing to do.

Then Calentine was standing beside Raye, having dropped there quite quickly. "Name's Calentine. Yours?" Calentine did not seem hostile at the moment. He was, however, shorter than Raye by half a foot. Calentine was a tiny little teenager.

Soon the ground began to shake.

And then the slender (but massive), serpentine form of Onstaan slipped through the massive trees, having to push the trees slightly aside as his bulk was too massive to fit between said trees. So said trees were just pushed aside, as said.

It yawned, stretching its massive, gaping jaws, revealing row upon row of jagged white teeth.

Then it spoke.

"I have to fight a platypus?"
