Rayne slowed to a stop. "I'm not teaching her to be childish, I'm letting her enjoy a silly act. Is having fun while you can so much a bad thing?" She looked around at the trees. "Childhood isn't the time from birth to a certain age. Childhood is the place where death doesn't exist."

Ilisia scowled again. "Whatever. Let's just... get this over with as soon as possible. Are you all ready?"
Zalexis shook his head and said, "Only if I have to be. I'll never be ready again. I don't have any power left..."
Ilisia glowered at him and said curtly, "Look, inward strength is stronger. Be that inward strength, all right?"
Zalexis nodded grimly and looked sadly at the heart of the forest. I can only hope that this ends well...

Rayne sighed sadly. 'No happiness, no gain. Only more and more pain.' Boy, did my master have a way with words. She hefted her scythe and looked into the forest. "Lead the way. Time to end it."

Ilisia nodded and Janie whimpered. Ilisia sighed inwardly and walked steadily in towards the heart of the woods. When the wood ahead was pitch black, she stopped in her tracks. "We... we... we... We'll have to completely silent and not use any magic despite the fact that we won't be able to see anything. It's her protection. That's the only way. Otherwise, her traps will detect noise and kill us." Zalexis rolled his eyes and led the way as quietly as possible. It has to be done. So it might as well be us...

Rayne followed Zalexis, being as silent as she had been trained to be. Thank you, Master! A reason to use stealth besides just trying to behead someone!

Suddenly, the black ended and a bright light shown through the clearing. Ilisia, Zalexis and Janie all winced in the sudden bright light. There, in the center was a women completely covered in dark cloth. "Zalexis... I'm ashamed of you..." she said quietly, her voice silky and soft. "I would have expected better of you than to desert."
Zalexis bent his head. "Yes, Mistress."
Ilisia stared. "Why... do you want to hurt everyone?"
The woman laughed. "Because I can. Because of the pain they caused me. Because they deserve it."

The woman saw Rayne's face and said, "Did you have something to say...?" even though she heard full well what Rayne had thought. She was one of the elite few who had the prowess in hearing thoughts to the points that there were no barriers for her.
Ilisia glared but was burning inside with jealousy. How does she do it?
Zalexis stared at the ground. "Mistress, may I look up yet?"
The women glanced at him and said lazily, "If you so wish, Zalexis. You're useless now so what difference does it make?"

Rayne looked around slowly. She couldn't see anyone else, but that didn't mean the woman in front of them wasn't dangerous on her own, if she was even alone.

Ilisia tapped her foot angrily and whispered, "Look, Zal, let's just get this over with."
The woman looked at Ilisia. "Get what over with?"
Zalexis gaped at her and said, "She wants to fight you, Mistress."
Ilisia glowered at Zalexis. "I suppose I do."
The woman laughed. "All right. But, Illie dear... You know you'll never beat me. Even though I am quite alone, dearest Rayne."

Rayne's head snapped back toward the woman. How-?! Crap! Rhea wasn't this bad!! She knew now the woman could read her thoughts, no reason to keep them in her head if the lady could just read them like a book. "So, slaughtering innocent villagers, just because you feel they deserve it. That's your reason?" No need to be kind and polite to the woman if she'd just read the frustrated thoughts.
