"Well when I went in the store earlier I tried to grab everyone's favorite. That is from high school favorite. You know what we used to eat at lunch." Abby dug through the basket and took out her peanut butter and banana sandwich. "PB squared is still my favorite but what about you? Did I do ok?" She asked. She didn't know how much Jole had changed. She prayed that he still like what he had gotten in high school.

Ah...
Jole didn't know quite how to tell her how much his eating habits had changed. Luckily for him, he didn't have to.
A huge splash resounded from the other side of the creek behind the old semi-submerged tree that Charlie had tripped on before. Jole could hear frantic shouts echoing from the water.
"What the hell was that?" he said, standing up hastily.

Abby jumped at the sound of a splash. She got up and looked around. "I don't maybe something fell from the trees." She washed the water as if for waiting for something to appear. Waiting for something to resurface.

Tobi was up first, although Charlie was close behind and giggling. Tobi rubbed his arms, "Charlie!" She giggled, then looked up. "Jole, Abby! Hey!" She waved.

Abby waved excitedly. At least everyone was happy. "Hey, guys come one over. We were just about to start out little picnic." She sat down and took out everything from the basket. Again, she hoped that no one had changed too much. She had gotten everyone's favorite meal from high school.

Jole groaned inwardly. He suddenly remembered why living in such a small town was so hard.
You can't hide from anyone around here...
However, outwardly, he smiled.
"Hey guys," he called, waving to Charlie, but not quite meeting her eyes. "Should've known it had something to do with you." He grinned. The old hollywood smile was back.
"Anyone hungry?" he asked cheerfully, nodding to the mountain of food Abby had placed on the blanket.

Charlie walked towards the blanket, acting as if nothing happened. She plopped down next to Abby. Jole sat down next to Abby, propping his head on her shoulder to look at the food.

Abby couldn't understand everyone's change of mood. Sure she still had a plan but she didn't know if it was even needed now. Abby decided to hold the plan off until later. "So," She said to everyone. "How did I do? If it's that bad, we could always go back to the store and find stuff. Oo or even better, we could go back to the Waffle House and see if we can get some free food."

"This is perfect!" Charlie chimed, grabbing her sandwich (peanut butter and banana on wonder bread with the crusts and a package of tropical citrus gum, she was a chain chewer). Tobi smiled, taking his usual order (two iced teas, a turkey sandwich *mayo, lettuce, tomato, the works* and a bag of jalepeno flavored potato chips).

Abby was very excited. "I'm glad someone hasn't changed their appetite." She smiled as she bit into her sandwich. To her, this seemed like old times when the gang would eat together in the summer. It was like old times when it was just them. Back then there was no romantic drama and no one cared who liked who. No one even really knew. Back then it seemed perfect to Abby. Back then they didn't have to worry about what mattered in the world. To them, they were in the world and they ruled it. It was like old times when they never fought over anything. They were just them. They were just the four musketeers when nothing could tare them apart. That is until the world began to turn and everything changed.
I miss the old times.

Charlie and Tobi bit into their sandwiches. "So, how was art school?" Charlie asked Abby. "Any romance?"

Jole froze.
You sneaky little...
He slyly avoided Abby's eyes while he tucked into his bacon bagel, pausing only to shoot a reproachful look at Charlie.

Abby laughed. "Well, I've had a few romances here and there but they were all jerks. I never knew that painters could be so.......egotistical. At least the ones that I have met out there are. But as of now. I'm a free woman!" She said excitedly. "I've decided though. Painters are not worth dating." Abby took a sip of her Gatorade and looked at the sun shining on the lake. Everything was perfect.
Just like old times.

Jole was no longer in a talking mood. Calmly, he leant back, stretched himself out on the grass and closed his eyes, listening to the others talk. His mind was blissfully empty as the sun streamed harshly across his skin. He listened to the girls chatter about all sorts of things, the words reverberating quietly in his head. He listened to the trees wave their branches in the breeze, spreading blossoms waltzing across the grass. He listened to the gentle rush of the creek as it rippled and shivered in the sunlight. He sighed.
Hello small town life.

Charlie spun Billy's ring around her finger. "I guess they all think they're 'tortured artists' or something." She smiled. Then looked at Joel. She smiled innocently at him, popping a piece of gum into her mouth. "I envy you," she said to Abby. "You're so good at what you do! I'm only so-so at everything."
