"I told you so," Lin told Pen.
Donovan put a hand on her head to silence her, "Lin be nice, he's just been through talking to two relatives."

"Talking to?" Haradhel questioned. "I'm sure it was more of an interrogation. Donovan, you know as well as anyone what Elrohir can be like - better than even me, apparently."
Since of course she hadn't known him in his worse days.

"Talking to?" Pen sputtered in a dramatic imitation of Haradhel. "Quite right, my lady, quite right - nothing but a barrage of questions of such a ridiculous sort ..."
Lothiriel washed her hands quickly and reached for a towel.
"We should hurry back downstairs, I think," she murmured to Miyu, her peaceful moon broken now. "Pen needs some rescuing ... and you needn't fear him, he's just silly even though he acts quite strange sometimes."

Miyu wondered who this person could be, "Okay..." she murmured as she finished washing and drying her hands, "Back down we go. Do you think he's there yet?"

Donovan raised a brow, how did anyone take this man seriously? It was no wonder why Seeker threatened him as she did, he didn't seem as much of a threat. Though that could be the point of the dramatics.
"You're not mauled, mained or hurt, it was a talking to," he replied.
Lin tilted her head a bit, "I don't see anything ridiculous about questions, that's how you learn."

"It was insulting," Pen sulked, folding his arms across his chest. "I have never been treated in such a manner before, and I have been traveling for a very long time, I assure you. A simple conversation is one thing, Daeron here was quite kind with his questions, but Elrohir that was most unkind, I have to say. Most unkind."
Lothiriel nodded at Miyu. "He's inside, all right," she sighed. "And in trouble." She headed swiftly for the door, leaving Miyu in her wake.

Elrohir grimaced at the others. "How can she stand to travel with this fool?" he muttered under his breath. "I would go mad after a matter of hours, but she's been traveling with him for over and above four years!"
Haradhel made a quip in another tongue, and Adan and Ahren snickered.

Curious as to what Lothiriel meant, Miyu hopped off the stool she was using and followed after Lothiriel curiously.
Meanwhile Kara realized much to her dismay that Pen was giving Donovan an opening to say something acidic, what that would be, she didn't know, but she knew it was coming.

Donovan rolled his eyes and gave Pen a nearly predatory grin, "You were travelling alone with the man's niece, what were you expecting? Hugs and kisses?"
He wondered what Haradhel had said, Adan and Ahren certainly found it amusing enough.

"Civility," Pen replied to Donovan evenly. "For Valar's sake it's not like I'm some monster or something. Trust me, if she had a real problem with me she wouldn't still be traveling with me."
Though their voices were at regular level, Lothiriel could hear them all loud and clear in her mind, and she picked up her pace and rushed down the stairs.

"Aye, you could have at least offered him that," Haradhel agreed, looking sidewise at Elrohir. "Come on, I know for a fact that you were raised properly. You have to have been."
High prince and all.

Kara couldn't help but wonder how old Pen was, since it was easy to write it off as he was too young to understand why Elrohir did what he did. Even if it was probably excessive.

"Come on, he couldn't have been that bad...."
Elrohir had eased up a lot, the man could have been worsed, he could have jumped to conclusions and freaked out. This was just mild as far as Donovan knew.
"And wait till you have kids, it isn't going to matter once you find them with some other person you don't recongize."
"You don't do that with my friends," Lin pointed out.
"I know most of your friends," Donovan replied, "And wait a few months, then you'll regret saying that."

Before another word could be said, Lothiriel was back, her face slightly flushed, her ringlets bouncing forward and backward as she stopped suddenly in the doorway.
"Pengolodh, enough with the dramatics," she said crisply, though her tone was far from condescending.
Her gaze turned to Elrohir. "You needn't torment him so, Uncle," she said softly. "Pen may be odd, but he has a good heart. He's helped me out of tough situations and is quite trustworthy."
She looked at Donovan. "Please," she added, sounding almost as if she were pleading. "Don't give him a hard time."

Elrohir was surprised by his niece's sudden appearance, but even more surprised by the passion in her rebukes.
He nodded dumbly.
"I apologize," he murmured to her, though he didn't even pretend to direct his apology towards Pen.
