Compilation borrowed from Jhiri^^Farewell to Arae Arae sat under the chill December moon in the garden of the tower and basked in the starlight. Her pond had remained unfrozen this week, after Sajhiri installed a heating element beneath it so the fish wouldn't be cold. She gazed at her reflection in the still water, occasionally broken by a koi rippling through the image. She missed Aleric and hoped he was all right. Christmas had been a pleasant quiet affair, and was time well spent with her bond, but she ached to see her love again. "This won't take long." Aleric said over his shoulder. He squared his shoulders and reminded himself once again that he wasn't a young boy. He was an ancient and should act like an adult. But then why did he feel so damn guilty for this? He sighed and dropped down on Sajhiri's front porch, thinking he should knock. Then he felt a hint of magic from the gardens. He took to the air, flying around the back and stopping at the sight of her there. Just to commit the image to his mind before he left. Arae felt a glimmering of power nearing and she looked up from her reverie. Her smile lit up the night as she spotted the hints of purple and gold in the darkness. "Aleric?" she queried softly, feeling her heart skip a beat in excitement. "Each time I see you, you grow more beautiful." He said with a little smile and a shake of his head. "I'm not sure how, but millions would kill for that skill if the televisions are to be believed." He landed beside her, reaching for her hands with his smile firmly in place. "How are you, my love?" His snowboard and staff were strapped together over his back, and a pouch of food hung from his waist. He was ready to leave as soon as this chat was over, but to mention that this soon would be rude. Arae blushed softly at the poetic compliments from her paramour. She squeezed Aleric's hand gently. "You are too kind, but that is why I love you so, your kindness." She smiled a bit mischeviously with a twinkle in her eye "And your kissing ability of course." It took her a moment before she noticed his accoutrements. "Are...are you going somewhere, Aleric?" She asked. He hesitated. "Perhaps we should sit." He said, tugging at her hands as he sat down. "You see... I've been thinking very hard about some things. You know, that we're the only link the feien have left to the past as ancients..." Think, you idiot, how do you make this sound as if you're not rejecting her the moment you got her? "I prefer to stand, I think..." Arae said softly. This didn't sound good to her, and she felt her stomach churn at Aleric's words. She forced herself not to show it on the surface though as she said quietly "yes, go on." "And... well..." There he went again, feeling like an awkward boy. Slowly he got to his feet. "There is another link to our past, my love. One that remembers more than myself. I'm going on a quest." He took a deep breath. "I want to bring a piece of our past back to the feien. Even if it's just a flute. Think of what will happen my love. When some young juvenile looks at such a beautiful piece of feien craft and realizes that they can do that, too." His eyes shone with the idea, his enthusiasm showing clearly. "When they realize that there's so much more to us than living as pets with human bonds. That we are a true culture! A people with a rich and deep history!" Arae blinked and her breath escaped in a rush of relief. "Oh! Is that all? For a minute there I thought you were dumping me already." She chuckled. "We all must follow the paths we are set upon, Aleric. If this is a path you must walk, you do so with my blessing. Just be careful and take care of yourself. Come home to me when your path returns you here." She smiled gently. He grinned as relief hit him. "I know that I might be gone for a while... Silva's already warned me of that. But I think I can figure out how to use the human's mail system to write you. And the phone, maybe. I'm not going alone, so it should be safer for me. But I felt I needed to tell you before I did anything... and..." He hesitated. "We should tell Averno, as well." Arae looked a bit confused. "Tell Averno? I don't think she'll much care that you're going on a quest, my love. She'd likely try to convince you to take me, and the rest of the Menagerie with you to give her some peace and quiet, but that's about it." She hadn't told her? Great... just great... "I suppose not..." He said hesitantly. "Silva and Soho are going with me. I hope it will help heal some of the wounds developed during the cupcake incident." He said, glancing over his shoulder and into the shadows where his family waited. Maybe it was best that Averno wasn't told... "Averno has been acting peculiar lately, and now you talk about telling her about your family heading out on a quest? What is going on here Aleric. Don't lie to me." She crossed her arms over her chest and peered at her beau. "I was hoping she would be the one to tell you..." He said dryly. The last thing he wanted to do was tell her about Silva and Averno. "There might be... something... between your bond sister and my brother." He said with a slight shrug. "SILVA!?" Arae laughed out loud. "Don't be ridiculous. Those two hate each other." She giggled. "Oh Aleric, you're so sweet, seeing romance everywhere." She kissed his cheek. "I guess it does sound kind of ridiculous." He said, enjoying the kiss. He wasn't about to tell her about the scene on the porch. "But just to indulge me, love, would you tell her?" He asked, leaning his forehead against hers. Arae smiled softly and stroked Aleric's cheek. "All right, I'll tell her. But you just remember to be safe, and don't take unnecessary chances, my love. I want you back in one piece, afterall. And take care of Soho." She notably left out taking care of Silva. He smiled, kissing her briefly on the lips before pulling away. "I promise." He told her. "Nothing bad will happen to any of us." Arae watched him depart, with a sinking feeling in her chest. She knew many a quester in her lifetime, and so very many of them died on the path. But she knew as well they could not be dissuaded, and that an ounce of encouragement and a reason to come home gave them all the more strength to survive.

"The white zone is for loading and unloading only." The voice echoed over the parkinglot of the airport, making Soho jerk slightly.
"Are you sure we should be doing this alone?" Aleric asked Silva softly as they eyed the humans entering the electronic door. They would have to go in with a group, since they didn't weigh enough to open the door.
"Now." Silva said briskly and they raced through the door, past the humans and into the long strip of stores that were outside of the waiting rooms. Silva eyed the different numbers for the planes, heading for a particular one and looking around. Then he cursed, his eyes widening ever so slightly.
"What--"
"Silva! Over here!" The little pigtailed blonde sitting by the window called. "C'mon!" Penn called, waving her hand wildly.
"Mister Silva Demon?" Soho asked. "Who is she?"
"She's a pirate, darlin. And I have no idea how she got here." He added. He cursed as Aleric went ahead of him, bowing to the cute little blonde in the strange outfit of black tattered jeans and a striped t-shirt that hung off of one shoulder.
"Hello, ma'am." Aleric said with a smile. "My name is Aleric, I'm Silva's brother."
"Hi, Aleric! I'm Penn. Silva's mistress." Penn replied, her pigtails bobbing happily as she held out a finger to shake hands. "I'm not really from this dimension, but it's a lot of fun!" She pulled open her backpack, digging through it. "They've got these really tasty things called... um..." She moved her mouth as she read the wrapper of the candybar. "A kitkat!" She announced happily.
"Penn!" Silva barked, making the blonde glance over at him. "What the ******** are you doing here?"
"I'm going to New York, of course." Penn said. "Isn't that the plan? I even set up my backpack for you and the others like Ice told me to!"
"Ice... told you to." Silva repeated disbelievingly.
"Yup! She said she had to work, so she got me off the Black Swan and told me I can go with you!" She frowned slightly. "But I didn't know you knew Ice..."
"She's that bondmate I told you about."
"...Oh." She paused. "But she's willing to share!"
"God help us all." Silva muttered.
"You brought headphones!" Soho said, already diving into the backpack happily. "Ooooh, an ipod!"
"I can't say that I'm not thankful." Aleric said softly to Silva. "Having a companion of the human persuasion will help with the human traveling."
"Until her amazon traits start to show." Silva added.
"Amazon?"
"It's a long story."

The plane was thankfully almost empty, leaving Penn and the feien their own little row of chairs. At least, to begin with. Silva grunted and climbed out of the bag, dropping down on the seat next to Penn and chewing lazily on the cherries she had brought with her. He figured the problems would start sooner or later. But for now they could be comfortable.
And thank God that all of the stewerdesses (was there another term? did it matter?) were female. And Penn and Soho seemed to get along well enough.
"So are all males on this planet so..." Penn was asking the little feien sitting on her down folded table, "Curious?"
"Curious?" Soho repeated. "What do you mean?"
"Well back on the Black Swan if a male looked at you the way they keep looking at me, they were thinking about rebelling." Penn explained thoughtfully. Silva choked, tears threatening to fill his eyes as he tried not to laugh.
"Rebelling?" Soho asked.
"Wait." Silva muttered. "Don't go filling her head with that s**t, girl." He told Penn. "She's not an amazon, and she's damn well not going to become one."
"But Mister Silva Demon! I want to hear the rest of the story!" Soho complained.
"Yeah, Mister Silva Demon! She wants to hear the story!" Penn repeated.
Silva jerked as Aleric made a little sound. It sounded suspiciously like a choked laugh. "For one, I'm the one in charge of this family. For another, amazons are just ********' crazy." He groaned as Penn looked hurt. "You sell men as pets, darlin. Don't bother to deny it."
"Why should I? Doesn't everyone?"
"..."
"You can buy a boyfriend?" Soho asked, all three eyes huge.
"Of course!" Penn said cheerfully. "How else do you know you're getting what you want?"
And then it just got worse. "Excuse me... are those dolls?" A tall, confused and slightly amused looking male asked, stopping at the row and looking down at them. "They're cute. I bet my neice would love one--"
Penn blinked in confusion. Then her big green eyes narrowed as he moved to sit down in the seat next to Silva's. "I'm--" He started out.
"Excuse me, but I don't remember saying you could sit there." Penn said. "And I don't appreciate you calling my friends dolls."
"Ohh... kayyy..." The man said hesitantly.
"That means you can go now." Penn said with a cheerfully sinister smile. "Buh bye!"
"Yeah... right. Whatever." He muttered as he walked away. "Crazy blonde chick..."
Penn scowled and reached for her belt, the leather strap that could be used as a weapon. Silva cursed.

It hadn't been easy to placate the little blonde. Well, actually, it had. But Silva's ego was now taking a serious beating. "Are we done yet?" He asked almost two hours later, glancing at the two females that were happily licking their way through an ice cream cone and giggling over... God knows what. They were all sitting at a table of a sidewalk cafe, called Hardrock Cafe. Although Penn had had a time getting the table. But Silva didn't even want to think of that.
"Oh!" Penn said, glancing up. "We were here for a reason, weren't we?" She looked around, her eyes widening slightly as she took in the rush of people walking past, and the large towering buildings that made them look even smaller than they already were. "Um... what's a glade, anyway?"
"Not here." Silva replied.
Aleric was standing over the map he had taken from the airport, a slight frown on his face as he glanced up at them. "We're in New York."
"Yeah. That's where this quest is supposed to be, right?" Soho asked. "It's so big and shiny and cool! Ooooh, look at her outfit! If I wore clothes--"
"No, We're in New York, New York."
"Redundant."
"No, I mean it's a city. It's not where the quest takes place. And frankly I'm surprised we haven't been stared at yet. Ice said that people unaquainted with feien shouldn't see us--"
"Ooooh, look! It's a troll!" Soho said happily, pointing to the crowd. Sure enough there was a troll sitting on the sidewalk with a guitar, playing for the people that walked past. Once in a while someone would throw him a dollar or some changed.
"Yeah... this place is ******** strange." Silva said. "Find out where we need to go and let's get out of here."
"Oooh, what's that?" Penn asked, poking at the large body of water at the top of the map. "It looks like waterfalls!"
"It's Niagra Falls." Aleric said as he read the map. "Looks pretty big, doesn't it?"
"Let's go there!"
"Wait--" Silva started.
"The end is coming! The end is coming, and no one is ready!" The voice made them turn blankly to look at the dirty white man wearing a board sign... thing. It was connected over his shoulders by two leather straps, making him into a living billboard. "The end is coming, the world will be destroyed!" He turned to look at Penn. "Are you ready for the end?"
"Well... no, but since this really isn't my dimension to begin with, I don't think it matters!" Penn said happily.
"You poor, misguided child..."
"We're leaving now." Silva muttered, hauling Soho and Aleric away from the table. He cursed when Penn didn't move and grabbed her pigtail, and making her yelp.
"The demons will leave once you accept God and Mohammad!" The man shouted behind her. Silva snorted and kept dragging them.
"Hey! You haven't paid yet!" The maitre' D shouted from behind them.
They started to run.

"Glade... glade... glade..." Penn said as they rode a bicycle through the upper part of New York. Where she had gotten the bicycle, Silva didn't know. And where she got the idea that a bicycle was a good thing to ride where there was still snow on the ground... well he wasn't about to ask.
"It's so pretty!" Soho said where she was sitting in the little basket on the front of the bike. The snow drafts appealed to her, and the large trees with their branches laden with snow made her three eyes go huge. The branches hung over her head, and dripped on her once, making her squeal.
"Um... just what are we looking for?" Penn asked.
"Rabid animals." Aleric stated absently. "And I think I see--"
Penn jerked to a halt only to slide on black ice. The bike went out from under her and she went tumbling onto the road as the feien took to the air. There was a squirrel in the road. But the squirrel looked strange. For one he didn't run away, even as the bike came skidding towards him. Instead he jumped onto the bike and over it, his clammy little claws holding tightly to a nut.
Penn groaned and looked up as Silva dropped to the road in front of her. "What--"
"Think we've found your glade, old man." Silva muttered as he pulled a staff off of his back. The squirrel squeaked and cursed him in squirrelish, then raced away to the glade in question, no doubt looking for reinforcements.
And it happened. There was a row of rabid little bastards with nuts in their hands when Silva and Aleric got there. Both males grabbed their weapons, looking at each other briefly before moving back to back.
"Are you okay?" Soho asked Penn as the screeching and cursing came from the glade. That wasn't her part of the job, and she wasn't about to get into the middle of it.
"Um... yeah." Penn said, getting to her feet wobbily. "Should we help them?"
"I guess I can go look for the bush now." Soho said. "I'll be right back."
And she left Penn there, sitting in the street next to a bicycle.
And then it began to snow.

It was freezing, and the gently falling snow brought images of his favorite Kill Bill scene to his mind. Silva slammed the end of his staff into the squirrel's throat and twisted at the waist, hitting another upside the head. The fight was loud and obnoxious, but he didn't hear a thing save the rushing of blood through his heart.
Hit, hit, dodge... just as Silva had trained him, Aleric fought on and on, slowly making his way through the wild animals. His back was to Silva, protecting both their wings from attack. Wings were so easily torn or scarred, and most of their magic came from those. And his was getting to him. Each wild, violent emotion played over his skin, driving him insane as he tried to control it. He had to turn it off, but at the same time it gave him an advantage.
If he knew what they were feeling he knew where to attack. There were birds in the air, screeching loudly, diving in when there was room and pecking at him with their sharp beaks. Scratching at them with their claws. Where was Soho? He paused to look around, earning yet another scratch for his trouble.
"Keep your mind on the fight old man!" Silva shouted without looking over his shoulder. He could tell what Aleric was doing by the slightest movement of the other feien's wings. They had fought so often. But he should have seen something like this happening. In fact, deep down he had.
Soho was fast. She was faster than most of the birds and all of the animals. But her stamina wasn't the best, to say the least. She dodged yet another talon, slipping past wings that made hers look like nothing, and scanning the ground for a bush. A lilac bush. How could anyone tell when everything was covered in snow? She was starting to feel tired, but she ignored it, barely dodging yet another screeching attack. She was starting to really hate birds. Like a dancer she weaved through the air, shivering slightly as the snow dropped flakes onto her bare body. She wrapped her arms around herself and wished, just wished that she had never come.
Aleric and Silva could have handled it.
"Watch out for the wind!" Aleric shouted up at her, hating the fact that such a little one was in the middle of all of this. But she was the fastest of them all, and only she would be able to get to the flute quickly. He bellowed as the wind caught the little feien, throwing her a good five feet before she tumbled slightly. "Soho!"
Soho screamed.
The same bird that had been trying to get her chased after her with his talons exposed. His cry slipped through the silence that surrounded Silva. And without a thought Silva took to the air, racing towards the beast that was about to impale Soho and slamming into its side. "Get the flute!" He shouted at Soho as he and the bird slammed into the ground.
Soho didn't move for a moment, watching in horror as one of the talons hooked Silva's wings, tearing a deep gash into the scaled flesh. But then Silva grabbed the bird's leg, a cold look of rage on his face as the loud "SNAP!" echoed through the air. The leg had broken. The bird let out a shriek of pain as they both tumbled towards the ground. But Silva ignored it, slamming his fist over and over into its soft underside, with a strength that only magic could have given him.
Soho shook off her shock and headed for the nearest snow covered bush, hoping against hope that it was the one she was looking for. The bare limbs of the bush scratched her flesh, welting it and drawing blood, it grabbed at her hair, trying to rip it from her scalp. But she kept going, too exhausted to think of stopping. If she stopped they would make her do it all over again. Just as they had before.
Finally she reached the roots, staring at them blindly as hot tears mixed with cold melting snow on her face. She didn't want to do this again. She took a deep breath, then got onto her hands and knees, digging under the roots blindly.
"Soho!" The voice made her glance over her shoulder as Aleric stumbled through the bottom limbs of the bush. He was bleeding, dark red blood crossing the purple squared pattern of his body. Dirty, she thought. Just like she was. "Soho, baby, how are you? Did you get hurt?"
"I've almost got it, Aleric." She said as the tears kept falling. "Don't make me do it again."
"No baby, we won't." He dropped down beside her, reaching as far as he could under the roots as well. But the ground was unyielding to him.
Soho's fingers brushed against something smooth and fine. Without a thought she grabbed on, dragging the object out and looking at it blindly through her tears. "I found it... Aleric, I found it!"
"Good. Now get out of here. Go as fast as you can back to Penn, I'll distract the animals."
"What about Mister Silva Demon?" Soho asked. Her fingers clenched on the flute, unwilling to chance it falling after all they had gone through to get it.
"He'll be fine." Aleric replied. "Now go!" He said, pushing her towards the hole she had made coming down the first time. She glanced over her shoulder once before disappearing into the blinding white light of a snowy day. "Be safe, Soho... be safe."
Aleric headed back into the fray, knowing that one of his wings was sprained and that he very well might not make it out alive.
Silva was enraged, red flashing in front of his eyes as he slammed through those that tried to attack him. Bleeding. Cuts of all sizes and depths covered his body, but he didn't feel them. All that he knew was that he would kill them all, one by one, until the entire glade was awash with blood. And when Aleric grabbed his arm he turned on his brother, his hand wrapping around Aleric's throat as he lifted the other feien into the air. His fingers tightened as his mind fought his berserker rage.
"Sil--va..." Aleric gasped as his hand wrapped around Silva's wrist. "She... got it..." His face was turning purple, matching the colors of his markings nicely. And he went limp.
"Al--Aleric?" Silva asked blankly. A squirrel jumped him from behind, and Aleric's body went flying as Silva turned to attack. Then a bird cried. Silva's blood froze in his veins as the berserk snapped off. He had just left Aleric defenseless in the middle of a masacre. With a curse he jabbed a sharp little elbow into the squirrel's throat and raced away, grabbing Aleric's body as he went.
Then a roar ripped through the air. It stilled the squacking, screeching noise, stopping the fighting. Loud, thunderous footsteps made the ground tremble beneath them as a full grown grizzly bear burst through the trees. Everyone scattered and Silva didn't dare look back.
"Get moving!" He shouted at Penn as soon as he reached the road. She was already mounted on her bike, with Soho sitting in the basket. "Now!" Penn nodded and started peddling as hard as she could, racing down the snow spotted street as the bear lumbered after her. But the bear wasn't used to so much action, having only broken out of the zoo that morning, and stopped in the middle of the street, standing on his hind legs and pawing the air after them.
He had only wanted to know how to get back to the zoo, after all. He was hungry!

"Aleric?" The sweet voice of his little girl made Aleric smile slightly. "Wake up, Aleric." Soho went on, pushing her tiny hand against his chest. "Please wake up? I got your flute!"
Slowly his eyes opened, closing again as the white light hit him. He was slightly cold, he thought blankly. And wet. Because it was snowing. "Soho--" He rasped. His throat hurt.
"Wait up old man." Silva's drawl made him go still, an odd sort of fear twinging through him before he stifled it. Silva hadn't meant it... of course he hadn't meant it. Then a large hand touched his throat once again.
Silva almost cursed as his brother winced away unconsciously. How could he have done something so stupid? Dammit! "There. You can talk now." He muttered, pulling his hand away and heading for the other side of the basket. There was just a tiny little tremor racing through his body, one that he wouldn't tell anyone about.
He, of all people, knew how easily he could kill someone like that.
"Silva." Aleric said as he sat up. "Silva I know it was an accident. You were in berserk. And that's why I got this..." He reached out, taking the flute away from Soho. "I think it might be able to help. I'm not sure yet, of course, but if it can--" He stopped as he finally had the flute in his hand, staring down at it blankly. "It's beautiful, isn't it?"
"I like these shiny things." Soho said, reaching out to touch them. "They look like tears."
Aleric nodded silently, running his finger over the holes with reverence. The gems, or tears as Soho called them, glittered brilliantly in the light. And something filled his chest, making it hard for him to breathe for a moment. He shook it off as he felt Silva's strange gaze. "I guess I should learn to play it, shouldn't I?" He asked stupidly.
"Old man... not all of those things are safe." Silva said softly. "They have this bad habit of trying to take over, if you're not careful."
"I'm sure I'll be fine." Aleric said. Did Silva want to steal his flute? No, of course not. Silva didn't go for that sort of thing. It was quite beautiful, though...
"Try playing something Aleric!" Soho said happily.
"A great idea." Penn told them. "We've got a long trip back to Ice's after all."
"Well... I suppose now is as good a time as any!" Aleric said as he brought the flute to his lips. For a moment it was unsettling, as if the world were shifting around him. And then he forgot that he hadn't always had the flute.
Elymee's Song... ****************************
"We're home!" Soho called almost two days later. It was midnight and Ice's house was locked up for the night, save for a cracked window. Silva covered Soho's mouth with his hand before she could wake anyone else.
"And it's time for you to get your little butt in bed." He told her softly, pushing her towards the glass bowl where she slept. He glanced over at Aleric, twitching slightly as he caught sight of the flute in the ancient's hand. "Go to bed old man, maybe you'll get some sense in the morning."
Aleric nodded, his fingers running lightly over the flute in a loving caress. "Yes... of course." He said as he headed for the hall.
Silva almost cursed. This couldn't be good.

Compilation borrowed from Sajhiri^^Oh s**t, they did wha? Silva growled under his breath, grabbing Aleric's arm and dragging him towards Arae and Averno's house. The other male had been out of it ever since he got that damn flute. It was enough to piss a feien off. At least if the feien was Silva, that was. "I'm not quite ready for this, Silva." Aleric said. "I haven't properly learned how to play. If I go to Arae unable to play she might think I wasted my time--" "I don't think she'll care, old man. And you're damn well creeping me out with your new... toy. Once you get around a bit of real T&A it'll knock you back to your senses." Silva said. At least he hoped that was what would happen. And it was a sign of how far gone Aleric was when he didn't b***h about the T&A comment. Silva pushed him forward. "There, go ring the bell." Aleric stumbled through the air, his shoulder hitting the doorbell. Silva winced, mentally noting that that push was a bit too hard when the old man wasn't paying attention. After a few moments some stumbling and cursing could be heard on the other side of the door. It opened, to reveal a rather exhausted looking woman with two babies in her arms. Well...one was a baby at least, the other kind of looked like a...lamb. Sajhiri looked perturbed at seeing no one there at first glance. "Stupid kids pranking me again?" she muttered crossly. The little redhaired toddler on one hip giggled and pointed at Silva. "Budderfwy!!!!" Rebecca announced merrily. The lamb was dozing peacefully in the crook of the woman's other arm. "Excuse me." Aleric said, pulling away from the doorbell. "I suppose I should have checked the garden first." He said idly. It was like the sight of Sajhiri and the two young ones had startled him back into himself for the moment. "Is Arae home? I have something to show her." "I'm not a--" Silva bit back a curse, remembering how often Ice had yelled at him for doing that in front of babies. But his scowl showed what he was thinking. "Butterfly." He finally said coldly as he chewed on his toothpick. "But I suppose I should talk to Averno while we're here. She here?" Sajhiri blinked as Rebecca made grabby hands at Aleric's wings. She cooed at the pretty purple colors. "Two Budderfwies!" she announced. "Two Momma!" She looked up at her mother angelically. Sajhiri chuckled. "Sorry, she's learning her numbers. Who may I ask is calling on Arae and Averno?" Aleric smiled at the baby, moving forward. He wasn't worried about being hurt, after all. He was pretty tough for a feien. "My name is Aleric, and this is my bondbrother, Silva. We're Ice Queen's bonds." He announced semi-formally. Silva just looked up at the house, wondering which window would show Averno peeking out at him... or worse, throwing something out at him. He hadn't told her he was leaving, after all... Sajhiri chuckled. "Oh! Silva is it? I remember when you were just a little thing and came into the tavern. My you've grown. You've gotten so t-..." She paused. "Wait a minute...Silva and Aleric? Aren't you two supposed to be in New York City? Because Averno and Arae took off there after you, said you were in some sort of trouble and could use rescuing..." Rebecca made a valiant attempt to grab Aleric by his waist with the full attention of stuffing him feet first into her mouth. She had a thing about tasting unknown objects. Dodge stirred from his nap and yawned, showing rather healthy lamb teeth. His ears flicked as he watched Rebecca with half lidded eyes, happy for once she wasn't trying to pull his ears off. Aleric jerked, flying backwards in shock at Sajhiri's words. He didn't even notice that he was evading Rebecca's grasp at the same time. "They did what?" He asked blankly. "You're kidding me." Silva muttered. "Just how in the--" He bit back another curse. "Heck do they think they can help us?" "That's not the point, Silva! They've put themselves in danger!" Aleric told his brother irritably. "I told Arae that I wouldn't let anything happen, but--" Silva scowled, crossing his arms over his chest. But the way he was chewing on his toothpick showed just how troubled he was by this news. "Stupid brat." He muttered, thinking of Averno. Sajhiri looked between the two Feien and she scowled at Silva. "I don't consider trying to help the people you care for to be bratty. I thought you and Averno didn't get along? She seemed to be the one insistent on going after you though. She seemed pretty angry. Arae just seemed worried for your health. They thought you were headed to some place in New York City." Rebecca grumped at being foiled in her grab attempt, and the toddler turned instead to reach for one of Dodge's ears. The lamb let out a little bleat and Sajhiri unconsciously untangled the ear from her daughter's fist, replacing it with a pirate rubber ducky from the pocket of her sweater. Rebecca made a gleeful noise. "We were, for a little while." Silva said idly. "But we've already finished the quest." Images of Averno getting ripped into pieces by rabid squirrels flashed through his head. It had been bad enough when Soho had almost been killed, but at least he had been there! "And it's bratty when she knows damn well I've been doing stuff like that since I was a kid. She's not strong enough to go up against that bear..." He cursed again and turned. "Come on, Aleric, we've got to go back to New York." He muttered. "A Bear? In the middle of Manhattan? Where's she going, the zoo? I thought she was going to some kind of belfry or clock tower or something." Sajhiri asked in confusion. Rebecca stuffed the ducks head in her mouth and chewed on it contentedly. Dodge reached up a paw to rub his ear gingerly and snorted in disdain at his 'sister'. "Manhatten?" Both males asked blankly. "A clock tower?" Silva repeated. "It seems..." Aleric started out with a relieved smile. "That they got the wrong quest." "Thank God." Silva muttered, running a hand over his face. "When do you think they'll be back?" Aleric asked with a little smile. "I was hoping to show Arae my flute." He held out the flute in question. Sajhiri blanched at Aleric showing Arae his 'flute' but then he proffered the real instrument and she looked relieved. "Oh, um...well if they went to the wrong place, I guess they'll look for you for a bit then come home. Unless they decide to find the Verasa whatchamajiggy themselves. So maybe longer. I don't even know how they plan to get there. If they're flying themselves it'll take weeks. They're fairly smart girls though, maybe they'll take a plane or something. So in that case, a few more days? They left almost a week ago." Rebecca now made grabby hands at the flute. "Shiny momma! Shiny!" she insisted. Dodge butted his head against Sajhiri's shoulder impatiently. He wanted lunch. "Alright." Silva said. He was hiding his relief, but Aleric could feel it. "Then we should get going." "Thank you." Aleric said, pulling the flute out of reach of the child. "We appreciate it." "I'll let them know you dropped by, " Sajhiri offered as a farewell. "Ok, ok Dodge! Come on, I'll go warm up a bottle for you. Yes bex, it's shiny, I know." She looked frazzled as she closed the door and navigated her way back down the hall c** obstacle course of discarded toys. Silva snorted as they started to fly away. "Hell, I'm more than willing to show Averno my flute, as well." "But you don't have a flute, Silva." Aleric said in confusion. "Damn asexual bodies."

Aleric sat on his hammock in the terrarium, staring at the flute that he had risked his, Silva's, and Soho's life for. It was beautiful. But he was used to beautiful things. It wasn't what drew him to the flute. It was the repressed emotion that the object seemed to radiate. So much love... so much hurt. He idly fingered the gems that hung from it, wondering at what Soho had said.
Were they tears? Such beautiful gems. It seemed to tear at his heart, making him feel protective. Supportive. Who was Ellymee? "What is your story?" He whispered softly to the flute. "What tales are you hiding?"
He lifted the flute, bringing it to his lips in a gentle kiss, then started to play. At first he had only been able to coax a few, sweet cries from the flute, but now... now he could make it sing. His fingers ran over the holes, placing here, then there, coaxing a melody out of it. So was his obsession that he had learned so quickly. But he wanted to be better. He wanted to show the world just how perfect the flute really was.
For a second Silva stood there, fighting a strange, and sickening urge. His own brother, and a male at that, and he was thinking of-- Gah, it was just so WRONG! "Stop it, dammit!" He shouted.
Aleric jerked, almost dropping the flute in his surprise. "Silva! What are you--"
Don't go near him, Silva thought. Don't get close enough that he can see what you were just thinking. But hell, he probably had already, he was a damn empath-- "What the ******** were you thinking, old man?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." Aleric said, feeling a flush creep up the back of his neck. He had been caught.
"That flute." Silva said as he chewed on his toothpick. It was a sure sign of irritation. But there was something else-- Aleric opened his senses a little further, then recoiled at the mix of self-loathing and desire racing through Silva's emotions. "What does it do?"
"I'm not... sure, actually." Aleric said hesitantly. But he was starting to figure it out. "Silva... did you just have a..." He couldn't think of how to put it without offending his brother.
"Don't play that thing around me again." Silva said coldly. But he took a step back, then another, looking slightly pale. He felt like vomiting. Sure, feien had no real sex differences, and sure, he and Aleric weren't ACTUALLY related... but those things didn't matter when it came to Silva.
"I didn't know you were here." Aleric said. "I apologize."
"What the hell were you thinking, Aleric?" He demanded as the last of his urges changed into anger. "It's just a flute, dammit! You've got a girl, remember? Arae? Or whatever the hell her name is. The one you talked about lasting with?"
"What?" Aleric asked. "Look, I don't like what you're implying--"
"I'm not implying s**t here, Al. You've got a thing for a damn flute!" Silva said coldly.
"I don't appreciate your tone of voice, Silva." Aleric said, equally as cold. "I am learning how to play a flute. I don't see how that has anything to do with 'having a... thing.'"
"And that flute seems to ******** with your head, and everyone's around you." Silva went on, ignoring his comment.
"What are you talking about?" Aleric asked.
"You're the smart one here, old man. Figure it out for your damn self." Silva said before taking to the air and flying away. He didn't even bother to deliver the message he had been sent with. Let the b*****d starve.
Aleric stared blindly at the flute long after Silva was gone.

Home Improvement There was a splash of drying blood on one of his wings and his left shoulder as Silva reluctantly followed Soho into the HQ. He had wanted to clear his mind, true, but that had involved violence. Not Soho dragging him to the shop yet again. He had barely gotten one good hit in, dammit. Soho's tiny hand tugged at his, pulling him futily up the stairs and into the waiting room. "This is better than hunting Mister Silva Demon!" She told him as she glanced over her shoulder. "Maybe we can find more people to play with!" "Darlin... you might not have noticed this, but the only feien I want to 'play with' isn't home at the moment. The rest of them are solely there to irritate the hell out of me." 'But I'm a feien!" Soho said. "You're family. It's your job to irritate me." At the sound of voices, Galatea had felt the immediate impulse to tug her tiny stack of papers further behind the lamp, to better hide. But she had spent a moment to bite her lip and steel herself. She was not afraid and there was no point in hiding from the ones that she wished to learn from. It would just be ridiculous. So, after another moment, the little blood feien stood, holding the papers to her chest as she padded out further onto the end table to look around, ears perked for the voices again. They had sounded familiar. The more she thought about it, the more pleasant she thought it might be to see other feien again. Silva glanced over at her, already sensing her magic. "Hello, darlin." He said before turning back to Soho. "I'm having a rough day, darlin, the least you could do is let me kill a few things and get drunk!" "But that's boring! You do that every night." She said with a pout. Although he didn't get drunk every night and they both knew it. She just liked how those words sounded. "And Ice said you have to come with me to--" She stopped, finally realizing Galatea was there. "Galatea! Hi!!" Papers clasped tight, Galatea offered a small, shy smile and her customary bow. "Hello, Miss Soho, Mr. Silva," she called. "It is nice to see you again." She tried not to peer too hard at Silva as her mind tried to process his words about killing and drinking; they seemed a bit... inappropriate, really. "See? It's worth coming to the shop to see Galatea!" Soho told Silva, as if her point was proved. She dropped down on the desk, grinning up at the other female cheerfully. "It's so good to see you again! Have you met any new feien? Made any new friends? I need to introduce you to my sister sometime!" Silva grunted and looked around, then eyed the papers Galatea was holding. Hmm... Galatea took a breath to buy a moment and then proceeded to answer each question in painfully exact order. "I haven't met anyone new, no. Or made any friends." She almost asked outright if -they- were her friends now but bit it back in time, figuring it would be the rudest question ever. "I have been spending a lot of time with my Captain and reading. I want to make a house," she explained. "And are you here for something? I'm not keeping you, am I?" She glanced over and flushed to see Silva watching her. "Mr. Silva?" "No, darlin, you're not keeping us." Silva said, glancing at Soho before looking back at her. "You're interested in a house?" He asked. He didn't really have a house, just slept on a stuffed tiger... Soho lived in a fishbowl and Aleric slept in a terrarium. So it was a novel concept for him. "Come up with something?" Soho blinked, then cocked her head slightly. "And it has to be taller than you, cuz when you grow up you'll still want to live there, right?" She asked, remembering how small her fishbowl had seemed when Silva got in it. "Oh, of course." A little crease appeared between Galatea's eyebrows as she frowned for an instant. "But I'm not certain how tall I will grow so I have to estimate and hope for the best. It's not very scientific but I guess I have to be prepared in case I grow as tall as Mr. Silva here." The frown eased and she again looked up at Silva before half-shrugging. She brought the papers away slightly and the other two feien could make out a slim cylinder on top of them - a piece of graphite wrapped in embroidery thread so it wouldn't stain her fingers. "I'm not sure either what -style- of home I should live in. Mr. Hadrian lives in a sort of lamp, I believe, and that seems to suit him. I don't know if it would suit me, though." Another shift of her arms revealed sketches and lines of numbers and letters on the uppermost sheet of paper. "I live in a fishbowl." Soho said cheerfully. "It's got nice, comfy dirt in it for when I'm sleeping, and some plants and animals." She added thoughtfully. "Mister Silva Demon doesn't really have a home..." "I sleep on a stuffed animal." Silva said with a shrug as he dropped down next to them to look at the papers. "Then again, I've never given a s**t about privacy." He chewed on his toothpick as he started to think. "You could use some human stuff... a milk carton, a cardboard box..." "I think I would have to." Galatea slipped down to sit with her legs folded underneath her, absently flexible. Shyly, she began to spread the pieces of paper out in front of herself; they were all perfectly cut, no rough edges, and sized exactly to fit her hands. "Your fishbowl sounds very nice, Miss Soho," she added, looking up and smiling again. "But I do not think that is me either. Or a stuffed animal. If my Captain even had one. Which she doesn't." She pointed to one of her sketches. "Popsicle sticks," she announced. Then to another sketch. "Something called Lincoln logs and tinker toys." Another. "This design is for a toy called Legos." Silva nodded. He had dealt with those when he helped Aleric build the playground. "Have you come up with something you want?" Soho asked, looking curiously at the pictures. "Mister Silva Demon and Aleric are really good at building things!" Although she had a little gift that neither of them knew about. She could mend two things that were alike together. Silva almost twitched at the mention of Aleric, but said nothing. Galatea shook her head slowly. "I think simple is best for me but I don't know how much room I will need." She raised her pink-eyed gaze to study Soho's lowered head. "I want others to be comfortable if they come and visit me but I am not sure how many would want to." "We'll come!" Soho said, glancing up with a bright smile. "And we could talk and play with our hair and have a party!" She added. "So you should have enough space for me, and Mister Silva Demon, and Aleric, and Mister Hadrian, and--" "Soho." Silva muttered. "If she doesn't want a big house she doesn't have to have one, darlin. Your house isn't that big." "True." Soho said, chewing on her bottom lip. "Um... what's your element again? Maybe we can work that into it!" "Blood." Simple and to the point and without any idea whatsoever that it -might- be creepy. Galatea idly fingered one of the sheets of paper. "I am blood." It didn't creep either of them out at all. But it did surprise Silva. Soho didn't think anything of it at all, not sure what was typical and what wasn't when it came to elements. "So... we could paint the walls with blood!" She said cheerfully. "Mister Silva Demon's good at getting it all over everything." "No, darlin, blood dries and gets sticky and starts to stink." Silva said. "Speaking of which I need to wash off." He added, looking down at his arm. "Keep thinking." Galatea blinked at Silva as if realizing for the first time that the blood was not simply part of his markings. "Oh." Without another word, she had risen to her feet and skipped off the edge of the table, disappearing in the direction of a potted plant. Mere moments later, she was back with a piece of damp tissue. She handed it over to Silva with a little bow. "Someone had just filled the water reservoir on the palm there. It is clean." Then she turned back to Soho. "He is right. Blood does not make good paint." "Thanks Darlin." He said as he started to clean himself off. "A pet, maybe? They've got blood." He said, thoughtfully. "Hmm... then maybe just red paint?" Soho asked. "There are red Legos. I believe I could ask my Captain to get them for me. I don't think she would mind." Galatea's foot nudged one of her drawings absently. "I cannot figure out how to make the roof, though. Walls are easy and I'm not worried about hard work but a roof... It's more awkward." "You'll want room to fly out." Silva said, moving his huge wing in front of him to wipe it off as well. "You'll only want to cover part of it. You could use something lighter, leaves, or plastic..." He paused, looking thoughtful. "You could use the popsicle sticks to make it!" Soho said. Eyes lighting up as the suggestions took hold, Galatea smiled at both of them now. "Yes," she murmured. "That would work. Combining materials. I don't think it has to be weather-proof since it will be in our quarters. Even if it was, I think a covering of glue on popsicle sticks might keep the rain out. I could build a skeleton with... Straws? And then lay the popsicle sticks over top and then..." Suddenly, she stopped and flushed all the way to the tips of her ears. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "I'm talking too much." "I do that all the time." Soho said with a nod. "It's okay! And you're trying to come up with something, right? It's good to think things through." Not that Soho ever did, Silva thought with a smirk. "It's alright darlin. But we need to get going. I left an injured rat in the backyard." "Aww..." Soho said with a pout. "Well call us if you need any help, okay?" "If you're sure..." Galatea smiled uncertainly, still pink. "Then of course. Thank you both." She held out her hands towards them. "I hope to see you again. Please take care of yourselves." Soho took both hands, then pulled the other female into an impromptu hug. "bye, Galatea!" She said as she pulled away took to the air. She waved as Silva nodded and they both flew out of sight. A bit startled, Galatea nonetheless wrapped her own arms around her torso as she watched them go, standing stock still for a moment. Then she smiled and there was no forced bravery or complete politeness in it. It was an honest smile. They were -so- very -nice-, she thought. Pleased and feeling warm, she began to gather her blueprints together. It had been a nice meeting and a nice day, after all.

Compilation borrowed from Jhiri^^Homecoming Arcus, a colorful Talaye male, delivered a message to Ice's House addressed to Silva and Aleric. Message Hey fellas, I got word from Averno that she and Arae are ok, and will be returning home via Flight 1462 landing at Barton airport at 8:23 AM on Monday. I thought you might want to know. ~Sajhiri Arae zipped out through the closing boarding door, ruffling the airport employee's hair in the wake of her passing. Averno watched in amusement from where she was lounging on a passenger's laptop bag, where they'd slung it over their shoulder. Arae hadn't wanted to get that close to the human passengers. The pair of fairies had spent most of the flight trapped in an overhead storage compartment so as not to be seen. Averno flitted off the man's luggage and alighted beside her sister on the now-empty podium where boarding passes were taken from passengers. "I don't know what the big deal is. It's not like any of these people really pay attention to us, Arae. They're coming to Barton, they're expecting to see crazy stuff." Arae grimaced. "Better safe than sorry..." she murmured. "Put the damn thing down." Silva muttered as he dropped down on one of the waiting chairs in the airport. He and Silva had dragged out of bed so damn early in the morning that he wasn't sure he had slept at all. The injured rat had taken him over an hour, and then there had been--well he hadn't gotten to bed until two or three the night before. And here Aleric was with that damn flute again--
"I'm going to show Arae." Aleric said. "Not play it."
"Thank God." Silva muttered. "What time is it?" He asked, looking around for a clock. Averno hitched the stick on her shoulder to a more comfortable position. To it was tied a cloth bundle which looked relatively heavy. Arae carried a similar bundle. The two of them almost looked like a pair of hobos, especially with the assortment of bandages and the scrapes, bruises, and scratches covering them. "Sajhiri said she wasn't going to be able to make it here to pick us up. She had some sort of appointment for the kids. So we're on our own getting home." Averno grumbled. Arae sighed a bit forlornly. "Can we ride on a taxi again? My wings are aching from all the travel." Averno snorted. "How many taxis do you think fly out into the middle of the woods in Barton? We might be able to hitch a ride part way, but we are going to have to fly to the tower, Arae." Arae nodded glumly and her wings twitched as if already protesting the flight to come. "Well lets find a place to rest for a little bit first, so I can heal up some more of our wounds." Averno couldn't argue with that, and she headed towards the waiting area. "There they are." Silva said, not moving. He figured they would find them soon enough. Or at least Averno would find him. Besides, he had a b***h of a headache.
"Oh..." Aleric said blankly. "They look to have had a hard time of it..." He got to his feet and took to the air, heading for them with a wave. Arae caught sight of the movement coming towards them and she startled for a moment. The attacks of the owl and the bats had left her a touch wary of flying things. But recognition glinted in her eyes as the waving figure drew nearer. "Aleric!" she called out, relief evident on her face. She rushed towards him. "Thank the 4 winds you're all right! I was so worried!" For someone so concerned about him, she certainly looked to be the worse for wear of the two of them. Averno watched the reunion with a small smirk. The smirk faded as she spotted a glimpse of crimson amid the chairs. She looked a bit surprised to see Silva there, and she couldn't hide the relief in her own expression for a moment. The bruised and battered fairy moved to alight beside him on the chair. "I see you made it back ok," she noted. "Better than you did, it looks like." Silva said, reluctantly opening his eyes and reaching out. "'C'mere, I'll fix you up a little before you yell at me." He had almost gotten back to sleep there, dammit!
"Arae, my love, perhaps you should sit down? I can heal some of your wounds." Aleric said, a look of worry on his face as he took in all the damage done to her. "And you can tell me how your quest went. Did you find anything?" Arae hugged Aleric as tightly as she could without wincing from the pain. "I've healed us somewhat, but I've been too weak to do much. I had to use a great deal of my magics to fend off the owl and the bats, and to get us up to the bell tower. I'm exhausted, but I'm glad to be home." She smiled weakly at her lover and then brandished her bundle. "Averno found what she was seeking and more." She unwrapped the package to reveal a purple heart-shaped gemstone. "At first I feared it was you...that you'd perished on your quest. Then we realized we were in the wrong place." Averno opened her mouth, looking as if she were about to verbally blast Silva into next week, but she closed it again at his offer. She sidled closer and nodded her permission to heal her. Around her throat, a silver and gold torque rested, it's magic like a beacon to those able to sense such things. "Nice necklace." Silva said, his eyes still heavy lidded from lack of sleep as he touched her waist. His magic flared in a well-used healing spell, which he held just a little longer than was necessary. "That your quest item?" And what did it do? If it took her mind over as well, he swore he would do something violent. Stupid artifacts.
"Oh..." Aleric said, looking at the gem in wonder for a moment. "I suppose that must have been... startling." He finished lamely. Although he was pretty sure his gemstone wasn't a heart, but he wasn't about to tell her that. He reached out to take her hand, already starting his healing spell. He hated to see her in pain.
Averno's fingers brushed the torque lightly for a moment and she nodded slowly. "Verasa's Knowledge..." she murmured. "I'm not entirely sure what it does yet. But it was pretty enough to get at least 2 Feien killed trying to retrieve it." She straightened as the healing made the aches fade and unwrapped the pyramid shaped, fiery-looking gem. "Arae has the other one. They were caught in a trap which contained the necklace," she murmured. "Thought it was your sorry a** for a minute. But Arae realized it was the wrong quest where there was no flute." Arae smiled softly as she was healed. "I am just relieved to know you made it back all right. Did you find the flute, love?" she asked curiously. Aleric hesitated. Just slightly, not enough to notice unless you were used to his manners. Then he nodded. "I did." He said as he held it out to her. "This is Ellymee's song."
"There's no yellow on me, princess." Silva drawled as he glanced at the stone. "Huh..." He said thoughtfully. "So it's yours, too?" She had come back from her quest with a hell of a lot more than he had. Arae's breath caught at the beauty of the flute. She traced a fingertip over it lightly. "It's remarkable, Aleric. A true lovely artifact. Have you determined what it does, yet?" She smiled brightly, wrapping the gemstone back up to keep it from getting dusty from the ventilated airport systems. Averno spread her index and middle finger to point at Silva's eyes. "Your eyes are yellow, "she pointed out. "And the other gem was purple, so it looked an awful lot like you two had gotten yourselves killed." She wrapped the gem back up carefully. "Yeah it's mine too. Though I gave Arae the other for her helping me out." She frowned. "I'm glad you're back and all, but I owe you a major kick in the ear for taking off without even saying goodbye. What if you had gotten killed?" She looked at him with the glimmerings of her anger returning. Silva thought about it for a moment, wondering if he should lie or not. "Hell darlin, it takes more than a little trip to get me killed. Thought I'd be back before you noticed." He half-lied easily. Sure he could have died. But hell, that happened on every trip that he took. He'd rather she be pissed at him when he was gone than sorry.
"I'm starting to believe that it imparts emotions." Aleric said hesitantly, thinking of what had happened to Silva. "That the player's emotions are translated to the people around him." He added, more to explain it to himself than her. Averno frowned, the torque detecting the minor lie dancing off Silva's lips. She didn't understand how she knew it wasn't the truth, she just knew. "Liar." She stated. "That's not the reason. So why did you go without saying goodbye. Tell me the truth, Silva. I almost got myself killed trying to save you because you didn't have the decency to let me know where you were going and when you expected to be back." She was going to have nightmares about owls and bats for a long...long time. Arae's eyes widened. "Oh my...that could be extremely useful in stopping fights or cheering sadness or...well many things. It could be dangerous too, though, Aleric. You should take care with it. Control over the emotions of others is somewhat manipulative." "Yes... yes, you're absolutely correct." Aleric said, reaching for the flute. "I don't think Silva was very happy with how it worked, either." He said, looking down at the flute with a slight frown.
Silva's eyes opened fully and he looked at her for a long moment before smirking. "You caught me." He said. "I didn't tell you because I'd rather have you pissed at me if I died." He said honestly. Averno blinked at Silva a couple of times. It took a few moments for her mind to process his admission, regardless of the additional wisdom the torque imbued her with. For a second the fact he'd rather have her angry at him if he died sounded sweet. Then she moved to slug him hard in the shoulder. "What an a*****e way to think, Silva. People mourn for a reason, it lets them get over it and move on. Anger would only wind up making me feel guilt for the rest of my life for being angry at a dead man." Arae hmmmed softly. "Perhaps we could do some research and find out just what it may have been used for in the past. That might give us a clue as to the beneficial or sinister nature of it." Aleric shook his head. "Perhaps it might be better not to know in this case." He said hesitantly. "If I use it, knowing that it was once used to manipulate others, I might be tempted--" He stopped. "Or someone else might be tempted, to use it in ways that aren't proper again." He tried to make it sound logical, regardless that it was an instinctive decision.
"But if I start out with the belief that it can only be used to help, like I have right now, then I won't think of other uses for it." It was his nature, more or less. To think of the good in things and people. He even saw Silva like that.
"Then it's a good thing I didn't die." Silva said, looking at the spot she had hit and trying not to laugh. "You aren't very good at that." He added. Averno scowled at Silva. "No, I'm not, which made it that much more idiotic of me to go after you. I was attacked by an owl, and then by some seriously ticked off bats. If Arae wasn't with me and couldn't manipulate winds, I'd be dead. Then how would you have felt?" She asked poutily. Arae rubbed her chin. "Yes, but if it might be harmful even if used for the intent of good, isn't it better to know that, Aleric? What if it does some unknown harm to the person who uses it?" "I'm sure it won't." Aleric said, finally looking at her. "I'm sure that whoever created it wanted it to be used to help. It hasn't affected me adversely. But why don't you tell me of your quest? You seem to have gone through a lot on your trip." He reached for her hand again.
"It would have pissed me off that you didn't trust me to take care of myself." Silva said bluntly. "I've been doing this kind of stuff a lot longer than you have. And at your level of strength you very well could have gotten killed." His head was starting to throb again. Arae slipped her hand into Aleric's, but she looked concerned. "Or it could have been secreted away for so long to prevent it from being used, my love. We have know way of knowing. But I am glad you're all right. I missed you terribly." She pushed a lock of lime green hair behind her ear. "Our quest was...unpleasant at best, deadly at worst. We nearly died several times. And we could have easily fallen into the trap that killed whatever feien these gems used to be." Averno snorted. "You're not invincible, Silva. And I thought I had a right to worry about you. As for my strength getting me killed, then why don't you do something about it and help me build up my strength? Because if you DO get yourself killed on one of these idiotic adventures of yours, I'm going to need to protect myself. Especially if that creep that attacked me way back when in the tavern ever hunts me down again." "I doubt he's still alive." Silva said bluntly. "Guys like that don't last very long. But fine. I'll bulk you up." He smirked. "For a price."
"My love, I'm so sorry that you went through all that." Aleric said, looking shocked by her confession. "I wish that I could have been there to help." Arae grimaced and she moved to embrace Aleric. "There was an owl that wanted to make us a meal, and bats, so many bats. It was terrifying. But we prevailed, and I learned I'm more capable than I thought of defending others. And Averno truly cares about me, and about Silva." She looked over her shoulder at her sibling and the shadow feien. "I hope he doesn't make her regret her feelings, Aleric." Averno arched a brow. "What price would that be, Captain Happy?" She settled the gemstone in her lap, leaning over it a bit. Her weariness was apparent, this trip had taken a great deal out of her. But she was surprised at her own courage to make the journey, and that which she exhibited in crisis situations. She wasn't the fragile thing she'd always seen herself as. "Mmm... It's too early for me to come up with something just yet." Silva replied. "But when I do I'm sure I'll enjoy it." He yawned, then stretched his arms over his head and got to his feet. "But hell, let's get you home. You look like you had a run in with a rabid cat and your hair is messed up."
Aleric hugged her back, closing his eyes slightly as he took in the fact that she didn't trust the flute, either... Maybe Silva was right... Arae hugged him close, comforted by the feeling of his arms around her. "I am so glad to be home," she murmured softly. Averno nodded to Silva and she rose, stretching her wings tentatively, then relaxing when she could see the pain was gone. "Thanks for the healing. Arae was pretty tapped out." She tied the bundle back to the stick and hefted it onto her shoulder. "Do me a favor and don't let Sajhiri know how rough of a time we had. She's up to her eyeballs in stuff, I don't want her fussing over me." "Won't say a word." Silva said before reaching for her. "Find something you can use for weights tomorrow. I'll be by sooner or later."
"I'm glad you're home as well, my love." Aleric whispered, feeling just a hint of guilt, as if he had betrayed her. But that was ridiculous... right? Averno nodded wearily before she leaned in and pressed her lips to Silva's. "Thanks for coming here to make sure I was ok. It's nice to know you did think of me once in a while." She grinned mischeviously. Arae murmured "Lets go home, Aleric. I need a hot bath and a warm bed and a good 2 days of sleep." Silva took to the air after the brief kiss and looked at her. "Think you can fly? Or will I have to carry you?" He asked, only half teasing.
"Of course, my love." Aleric said as he took to the air as well. "If you need help flying, I'm here for you." Averno grimaced. "Though I hate to admit it, either you carry me or I call Sajhiri to send Caelestis or Maleficent to carry me home. I don't think I can make it." Arae smiled warmly. "I can think of no one I'd rather lean on or would trust more to never let me fall." Silva nodded, moving closer to slip one arm under her legs and the other behind her back. She was tall, but he was taller, so it worked well enough. "I picked up a little more speed while we were on our quest." He mentioned idly. "I'm almost as fast as Soho."
Aleric wrapped one arm around Arae's waist, giving her as much support as she wanted. "Then let's go home." He said softly. Arae happily followed Aleric's lead, though at the edges of her mind, the purpose of the flute irritated her. She would have to think on it again later, after she could rest. Averno wrapped her arms around Silva's neck, idly touching an ear tip with a faint smile. She then nestled against him and was soundly asleep before he even got her out of the airport.

It started when Ice didn't come home with his cherries. And then it went downhill from there.
Silva stood on the chair in the front room, his toothpick working in his mouth as he chewed it in irritation, his large red scaled wings flexing slightly as he looked down at the baby boy on the floor. Blonde, duel colored eyes, and a scraggly looking hat. Not to mention a metal... thing... next to him. Silva looked over at the female heading in from the kitchen. His bond. HIS Ice. And said coldly, "Take it back."
"Take what back?" Ice said as she dropped down on the floor next to the newcomers. "Hiya, fella. Don't let the scary looking fairy get to you with his ugly looks. He was born that way." She said as she pulled Walter to his feet, supporting him so he could walk. Walter smiled at her, drooling just a little as he let out a gurgly laugh.
"I've put up with little girls. And tigers. And an ancient. And Soho..." Silva drawled. "But not with a baby. I'm not about to start now."
"Don't worry. I'm just taking care of him until I get ahold of his caretaker." Ice said, glancing up at the feien. "But until then, Silva, I swear if you make this kid cry I'll get out the newspaper."
"You really think that scares me?" Silva asked with a snort.
"It should! I'm talking the Sunday edition!" Ice said rashly. Walter waved his arms, turning his focus on the little talking bat like man just out of reach. He liked the colors on that one, too! "He's just a baby, Silva. He needs to be protected and cared for." She leaned forward, bussing Walter's belly. "Isn't that right, little fella?"
Walter giggled and squirmed, loving the attention in an innocent way that only a baby could pull off. Then he reached for the speaking creature on the chair again, wanting to touch... and maybe taste. Tasting things was good. Sometimes they didn't taste so good, but you ate them anyways because food was hard to come by. Not that he was thinking this logically, but that was how he had been trained.
Oblivion was watching the fairy with red eyes, her tail twitching back and forth at his tone. She didn't like this creature. Not if he didn't like her forgotten. And she was a lot bigger than it was! Although she wasn't very fast... or tough. But that didn't matter when it came to protecting her bond.
"Then at least throw out the metal thing." Silva said, not willing to give up so quickly. "It's getting rust on the carpet."
"You're being an a**, Silva." Ice said. "Where's Aleric? Why aren't you bothering him?"
"Aleric's... indisposed." Silva said.
"Huh?" Ice glanced up again, nearly dropping Walter as he took an unexpected step. She scooped him up off of the ground to keep him from hitting carpet. "Is he sick?"
"Only in the head."
"...We are talking about the same feien, aren't we?"
"Purple marks? Girly hair?"
"Right."
"Yeah. That's him."
Walter took advantage of the distraction, reaching for the feien with a triumphant coo. Only to miss by bare inches. He pulled his hand back, looking at it blankly, as if wondering how it had missed.
"Then what's wrong with him?" Ice asked. "I mean, I know Kisa moving in with Jade might be a problem for him, but I don't see why we'd need to move his terrarium--"
"It's not that." Silva said, stepping right before Walter tried to grab him again. "It's that damn flute of his."
"Oh, I suppose he has gotten rather attached... Then what about Soho? What's she doing right now?"
"Downloading music on your computer again." Silva said. The kid was starting to get to him, and he bit back a snicker as he stepped just out of reach again. The look on Walter's face when he was thwarted was amusing, even to a cynical b*****d like himself.
"I hope it's the free stuff." Ice said, shaking her head. She was still holding Walter there, watching idly as he tried to catch the feien. Games like that were good for his reflexes, and if he did manage to catch Silva, well, he probably deserved all that happened to him. "You're surprisingly good with kids, Silva."
"Like hell I am."
"And watch your mouth. Little boys have big ears."
"He's rotted your brain already." Silva muttered.
"No, babe, you did that waaay before he was born." Ice said with a smirk.
Oblivion watched silently, a slight creaking sound coming from her tail as it swung slowly back and forth. She still didn't like the talking bat winged thing. She would have to keep an eye on him...

Quote: Sisterly Love: Soho is reunited with her sister, Burgundia, and meets the enthusiastic Marne... who is now Soho's girlfriend? Meeting Donovan Soho fluttered into the shop, looking oddly alone for her. Neither Silva or Aleric were with her, for the first time in... well, since the little cupcake incident. She wasn't sure she liked being so alone, actually. It was... lonely. But Silva was out hunting and Aleric was somewhere off learning to play his flute again. And Ice and the others were still obsessed with that darn baby and his metal thingy. The little red and black feien sighed, much put-upon by that fact. Dee had sworn she was still adorable, and that helped somewhat, but she wasn't getting the attention that she was used to! Not even from Nick and Nack! So here she was at the shop, needing attention. Because she obviously wasn't going to get it at home! Stupid baby. Cute... yes, but stupid nonetheless! A brunette woman in her early to mid-twenties shuffled into the shop, looking around with a faint sence of urgency. Her left hand clasped something close to her chest and a peice of paper crinkled in the grasp of her right. "H-h-hell-ello?" she stammered, looking down at the precious contents of her cupped hand. After a moment of waiting for an answer, she returned her concerened gazes back around the perimeter of the main room. She unfolded the peice of crumbled paper and scanned over it a few more times. "This has to be the place. Isn't it? Oh please just let this be the right place..." She continued to mumble softly, as if speaking to whatever resided behind the shield of her dainty fingers. "Hi!" Soho said cheerfully, waving her arms over her head to get the big person's attention. "I'm Soho! Who are you?" She asked with a wide smile. Slightly startled, the young woman perked her ears up and shot a glance in the perky voice's direction. She squinted a tad, seeing smears of bright red against black. "Could it be? Another one of his kind?" She took a few steps closer, her eyes struggling to focus on the mess of waving colors. "I'm not exactly too sure who I am, so why don't we start with him..." Squeezing in a bit closer to the small feien creature, she brought her hand down, away from her chest, and uncupped her fingers. Glints of silverish-white and black peeked out as light slowly flooded her palm. There lay a mysterious feien with dull, raven-black hair covering the majority of his back. His leather hair-tie had worn out from time and moisture, and his hair was ratty and unkempt. His poor wings were nearly falling apart. His exposed skin beyond his markings was pale and dotted with sores. "Do you know who he is? All I had was this address to go on..." The lady held up the small peice of scrap paper. "Did I come to the right place? Can you help him?" "Well, no, I've never met him... but I know WHAT he is!" Soho said, moving forward. "He's cute! And a feien, like me!" She said, nodding as if that were obvious. "We come from flowers and have bonds and come in different sizes and colors and wing types... I'm just a juvenile, my bonddaddies are much bigger than I am!" She paused. "Are you his bond?" "Bond...?" She looked confused. She wasn't even about try to spit the Fe--fei--en--en word out. "I found him in a box in our cellar of our new house... I didn't really know what to do with him, and the address on this scrap of paper was all I had to go on. Is a bond like his family or a host or something? Doesn't he have someone that was waiting here for him to arrive in the mail?" She didn't quite understand the concept of a "bond". It seemed almost as if she believed he just magically found his way into their cellar and was supposed to "journey" somewhere else. "Waiting for him?" She asked, completely confused. "I don't think so. I mean, my bond works here and she didn't say anything about something like that..." She was getting worried. "A bond is the big person that a feien lives with. And without a bond the feien could... Oh, you've GOT to be his bond! Please be his bond! I'd take him home with me, but Ice already has three feien and a new baby and a new metal thingy and--" She clasped her hands together, pleading. "You can't let a cute feien die!!" She finally said. The woman's eyes nearly crossed as she attempted to follow the pace of the red and black feien's verbal thoughts. "So you mean he doens't have anyone waiting for him to arrive? I don't quite understand... I just assumed that... Well... I assumed that um..." Her gaze trailed down at the feien lying in the palm of her hand. He looked so fragile, and yet so completely beautiful at the same time. "I don't understand any of this. I don't even understand what he is, or why he was in my cellar..." As her eyes met back with Soho's, she could see the feien was visibly shaken. "Why is this all such a big deal? I'm sure he's got someone for him somewhere. He can't just, be alone, can he? I mean, surely, someone's looking for him... Maybe the old resident of the house just accidentally left him behind. They could come back soon... I'll just leave him here with you." "But I can't!" Soho said. "I can't be his bond and my bond can't take care of him! He won't be too much trouble, I promise! Feien are small and don't eat much, and they're good for talking to and listening to music with and--" She paused. "Won't you at least try?" She dropped down, heading for the feien and landing on the woman's hand to kneel over the other feien. "Mister? Mister, can you speak?" She asked, poking him. Aude flinched a bit at the soft tickling of the feien's feet upon her skin. She watched in abaited wonder, part of her silently willing the injured feien to atleast acknowledge the other and possibly give some insight to the situation. The feien's wings jingled slightly as a few of his fingers twitched in Soho's direction. Soft crackling noises were an instant sign that his condition had progressed past only a few days of being bondless. It was all too clear that his bond had been missing a long time. He exhaled slowly and his eyes opened a slit. Everything was a blur. "Mister?" She repeated again, shaking his shoulder. "Come on, mister, you got to wake up..." She didn't know what to do. "Mister Silva Demon might be able to help... but--" Silva was hunting. Oh how she wished she hadn't come all by herself! "Please, lady, you have to say he's your feien!" She finally said, close to tears. "If he doesn't have a bond, he'll die!" She was certain of that for some reason. "But he's not mine," Aude insisted. "I've never seen him before. I just found him in the cellar of my new house. I can't just take something that doesn't belong to me. Besides, I don't even understand what the heck he (or you for that matter) is! How would I take care of him anyways... He's better off here with people who know what to do. I have no clue at all." She picked the male feien up gently and layed him out on the nearest flat surface. Then she proceeded to shoo Soho off her hand. It wasn't that she was cold and careless, far from it. She just honestly couldn't take on the responsibility of something, or someone, that wasn't hers. It just didn't feel right. Besides, the discovery of this creature in the cellar, and the surreal events at this shop so far, had made her exceedingly more aware of the fact that she had absolutely NO idea what was going on here. "But you can't--but he--" She took a deep, shuddering breath. "Can you at least tell me where you live?" She finally asked. This was so far beyond her experience... Aude looked down at the teeny inquisitor. "Well, I suppose that would be alright, if atleast for the purposes of anyone wishing to inquire about his condition when I found him. Perhaps leaving some contact info, may in some way, help to link him to his rightful owner." She flipped over the piece of paper that had the Feien HQ address on it, and took a pen out of her bag. A few quick pen-flicks and she was finished. "There. It's 1592 Forest Edge Drive, right on the outskirts of Barton town." She folded the paper over, enough to make it manageable for the small feien, then handed it to her. She felt sorry, as it was visible that this feien was troubled by the situation. "Look... I'm really sorry I can't help you out. I'm sure if you turn him over to the proper person, everything will be resolved." "But... you are the proper person." Soho said sadly as she headed for the inert feien. What was she going to do? What? She would have to get Ice... or someone! Someone a lot bigger and older than her. "I really don't think so. I mean, he must have someone out there, alone and worried sick over him. I don't see why anyone wouldn't be. He obviously belongs to someone. She cast a concerned look over the pair. "I'm really sorry... I wish him the best. Thank you for relaying him to the proper people. I'm sure he'll thank you for it when he's able." And with that, Aude turned on her heels and headed for the door with a conflicted sigh. Her heart strings tugged at her emotions as she forced herself to walk out. That little feien's appeals must have had some effect, no matter how small. She visibly fought back the urge to turn around for one final glance and instead, pushed herself through the doorway. In moments, she was gone, on her way back to her home.

((Donovan borrowed with Aude's permission))
It hadn't been easy. Soho wasn't nearly strong enough to carry Donovan home, so she had raced out of the headquarters at top speed, grabbing Aleric from his music and hauling him to the HQ. He had been the easiest to find.
A half hour later found him with the inert feien's body in his arms, staring up at Ice silently as Soho rambled out an explanation that barely made any sense. He had tried healing the poor boy, but it hadn't helped. Lack of a bond was far too serious for something like heal to fix, after all.
"Wait... back up, Soho, you're saying his bond abandoned him at the shop?" Ice asked.
"No! I'm saying I told her that she should be his bond but she wouldn't and she left him saying that someone was waiting for him, even though I told her that no-one was and--"
"Okay, okay, I think I get it..." Ice said with a sigh. Her head was pounding and Walter was bouncing on her hip, trying to get down so he and Oblivion could knock over the trashcan again, no doubt. "So he doesn't have a bond?"
"He does! Or at least he should! She was nice, I know she was! She had to be! And she didn't have a feien, so she wouldn't be too troubled by having more than one and--"
"Soho, did you even get her name?" Aleric finally asked, gently laying the poor boy down on the endtable. They were in the front room, because it had more room for Oblivion to wheel around in.
"No..."
"Then I'm not sure how we can--"
"But I got her address!" Soho finished, holding out the piece of paper she had lugged home with her.
Ice took it. "Soho... sweetie, I can't promise that this will work. This feien doesn't look very good, and if we don't find a bond for him soon... well..."
"Please don't let him die, Ice!"
"I was going to say we could send him to the fleet." Ice replied.
"...Oh." Soho paused. "But if he goes to the fleet I might never get to see him again..."
Aleric took a deep breath as he finally realized what had been happening to him. He had withdrawn... and Silva had given up on pulling him out of it. He had missed so much while playing with his flute... Walter's appearance, Soho's new friends... and this... "I would like to go with you, Ice." He said. "Perhaps I can explain where Soho couldn't."
"She just wouldn't listen!" Soho said, irritably. She wasn't used to people not listening to her. Even Antipov pretended to listen to her most of the time! "She has to be his bond and then he can be my boyfriend!"
"Wait a second, Soho, don't you think you're jumping to conclusions here?" Ice asked. "Right now you know nothing of what he's really like, how do you even know--"
"Of course Marne might get jealous..." Soho went on, completely ignoring Ice.
"Marne?" Aleric asked.
"She's my girlfriend."
"You have a girlfriend???" Ice demanded in shock.
"Well that's what she said she was!" Soho replied. "But I don't think it was today... It's Wednesday, right?"
"..." Ice rolled her eyes and scooped up the small feien and piece of paper. "Let's go, Aleric. Before I find out other things I'm better off not knowing." She paused. "Jade? Could you take care of Walter while I'm gone?"
"Sure, Momma!" Jade said as she came out from the back to take the boy. "We were just doing homework."
"Okay. Let's go, Al." Ice said as she headed for the door, the feien cupped gently in her hand.
"Wait! I'm going with you!" Soho called, chasing after them. "Bye everybody! Wish us luck!"
