To say the growl unnerved him was an understatement. He wiggled his fingers over the handle of his cane as he thought about what he'd said, what he'd been trying to convince himself had all been taken care of. If he was wrong.. He tightened his grip on his cane and pushed himself up.
"I should probably get going," he said. "S'gonna be a long walk, and... Well, I should get started now."
Not only would he have to take it slower, but this time he knew he was going to be painfully aware of how far he had to go. The pain, if it got that bad, would maybe help take his mind off everything.

Zach nodded once, feeling the strong urge to sink down onto all fours. He'd stopped his hissing when he realized he'd been doing it, and now his tail was moving at twice its normal speed, flicking with agitation. His throat had gone bone-dry. He couldn't handle this kind of information. All he knew was that this lonely stretch of cliffs was far less safe than he'd thought before. This was the last straw. He needed to get back into the village. There would be no more sleeping at night now, ever, until he had a solid sturdy door to keep everything out.

Sid glanced over his shoulder as he walked back the way he came, at least until a stray pebble sliding under one sandal reminded him he had to pay attention to where he was stepping. And walking shoes, he really needed decent walking shoes, damn it.
He realized, around the same time he made it back to the trees, that he was already talking about- and to- animal people as if it were perfectly normal. He wasn't sure if he should be glad about that or not. But, just as predicted, the pain in his knee helped to distract him from it. That time he welcomed it, even kept pushing on just to see how far he could go.

New RP
The terrain had gotten much rockier than what was previously encountered as they continued to climb higher along the path from the Village. An awkward silence had fallen between the two for most of the duration of the walk, the sharkboy praying that he wouldn't somehow kill Amaya from the sheer combination of night air and high elevation. Regardless, he'd brought a rolled up blanket for a reason. Pre-planning for once, a miracle in itself for the punk teenager.

The lizard was too stunned to really break the silence herself, eyes looking down at their interlocked hands and Alec, then traveling around as she thought loudly to herself.
He can't possibly like me, look at me. He never showed interest in me before. Or did he, but I didn't notice? Oh god, what am I gonna do? I'm glad I can't blush anymore. What if he does like me? What then? How could he POSSIBLY like me?
... I hope he does.

Finally after awhile the teenager seemed to glance around more rapidly than before as if searches for something, Indeed he was scouring for a satisfactory spot to park themselves, deciding on a solid-looking ledge with just a hair of an overhang of rock above. "Theh, ye?" Alec motioned with a hand to the spot, letting go of her hand for the moment to point for clarification. He couldn't see how she WOULDN'T like it, it was a place to sit and he was sure the lizard girl was beginning to feel the effects of the climb already.
Regardless, he waited for her approval before making his way up.

"Hm?" Amaya looked up as if snapping out from a daze.
"Oh, yeah." She said in her unnaturally quiet voice, her brain and body getting rather tired from the climb and cold climate. Hopefully coming out here would be worth it. She could only hope.

It was relatively easy for Alec to make it up to the ledge and he promptly turned around once he got there to make sure Amaya was doing alright, offering a hand when needed. Excluding the large 'issue' with Moreau, he mentally agreed with himself that this was one of the craziest things he'd ever bothered to attempt.
Once he'd safely made it up he promptly unrolled the blanket that had been tucked under his arm, handing it to Amaya. It turned out to be a comforter from his bed, taken especially with her temperature sensitivity in mind. Just as he did this, a forgotten bag of potato chips fell out of the bundle reminding him that he'd tucked it in for a possible shared snack.

Amaya climbed up after him, giving an awkward smile in thanks as he helped her up. She watched silently as he unrolled the blanket, taking it as it was held out to her.
"Thanks..." She said, eyeing the bag of fallen snacks as it shuffled to the ground. A tiny laugh escaped her muzzle as she sat down, curled up in the comforter - placing the chips between them.
A cold night with a blanket and potato chips. It didn't get more romantic than that.

Alec looked bemused and content with the accomidations provided as he plopped down next to the iguana girl, facing outwards and towards the dense treetops below. Everything was much quieter upon on the cliffside and he was almost disturbed with the fact that he couldn't hear the hum of the insects or various other nocturnal sounds of the living jungle that had begun to be comforting to him.
After a moment of silence with not much to say, the teen sudden blurted out the first thing that came to mind. "Kay sho is mo' th'bess p'ace fo' a date." He snickered, embarassed though he continued with his jittery speech. "Bu' th'few's nice?" The sharkboy then motioned to the star-dotted sky above, various strips of colour interwoven into one huge mosaic. It was the one redeeming factor he'd thought of to outweigh the obviously poor choice of locale.

Date?! Oh god.
Amaya swallowed loudly, keeping largely silent until he gestured to the stars. She looked up as well, giving a headbob in agreement. "Yeah..." She trailed off again, her mind spinning a mile a minute.
Ask him if he likes you! You'll never find out if you don't ask him! I mean, this IS a date, right? That means he has to like you, doesn't it? Why else would he call it that?

It was hard to tell what she was thinking by her subtle and quiet reactions though Alec perhaps didn't concern himself as much as he should've. In his mind, if she wasn't bawling or hiding out in her duplex, she was happy. With this thought in mind, the teen cheerfully whistled and reached over for the chips, opening the bag and taking some before placing it back where it was between them.

The silence spanned for a long while it seemed, the iguana girl trapped in her own booming thoughts. It was taking all the courage she had to convince herself to just ask - get it over with.
"Alec...?" She started, her voice falling flat. She didn't look at him, yellow gaze staring at the tree canopy. "This is a... date?" She asked hesitantly, needing clarification - though she didn't wait for an answer. "Does that... mean...?"
She stopped there, still not looking at him.

Alec put a few chip pieces into his mouth, choosing to suck on them though the salt bothered his gums quite a bit. Now that he was thinking about it, he kicked himself for not bringing some water for himself or at least an alternate snack food. This of course lead him to wonder if Amaya still ate chips at all, until he began on a train of thought where he was trying to recall any instances where he'd seen her eating anything at all besides lettuce leaves.
Her question attracted his attention back to reality though the topic was both abrupt and unexpected. "A date? ... Well, yeh." Raising an eyebrow, he tried to decipher what she was getting at. "Ye dom' affeh date aggem iffeh dom' want'teh."
Now he just felt bad. He should've brought lettuce.
