Maelthra took a few leaves of various herbs and smiled over at Amuriel when he saw her get all her berries ready.
"The berries look pretty tasty today. Hopefully they'll be nice and sweet?" he said while seasoning his meat and stabbing it with a stick to begin roasting it all together. Soon the air began to be filled with the aromatic scent of the meat with the herbs. And to him, it smelled very appetizing.
"Mmm..."
Grinning, he moved closer to the water to take a quick drink as he waited for his food to finish cooking.

Amuriel nodded, looking at her food. "This is a good time of the year for these type of berries..." She grinned lightly and curled her legs up under her, watching him cook. "Yours smells particularly appetizing too. I hope it turns out alright."
She watched him and smiled. He was so amazing... as a lover and a mate. She hoped things between them would remain the same, despite what news she had to bring him. If they were to part...especially when she was carrying his pups, she wouldn't know what to do or where to go.

"Yeah I hope so too..."
Grinning as he sniffed the air, Maelthra finished drinking some water and returned his attention to the cooking meat. Now seemed like a good time to take it away from the fire and to begin eating. While he did that, he left the flames going to help keep the both of them warm since the sun wasn't shining into the cave as it normally would.
"Perfect.. I hope..." he chuckled, "well then, lets dig in shall we?"
For now, he was fairly oblivious to anything that might be going through Amuriel's head. Otherwise he would have asked her what was on her mind. But right now, food was all he could really think about as he was feeling quite hungry.

Amuriel watched Maelthra as he went about cooking. He seemed pretty enthusiastic about his food. Was he really that hungry, was he just excitable, or was there something else on his mind? She didn't know, but she decided she had rather not think about things for now. After all, she would be confronting him soon about a subject that was touchy enough.
"Aye!" she replied quickly, clearing her mind for the moment and picking up a berry. She plopped it in her mouth quickly and grinned. It was sweet!
"Delicious.." she said, smiling over at Maelthra. "How is yours?"

Happily, he took a bite out of his slab of meat, savoring the flavor greatly. The meat was still tender and still slightly bloody, which is how he liked it. The herbs he had added to it made it even better as well.
"Mmm... this is delicious too... Man I was hungier than I thought I was.."
With a smile, he glanced over at Amuriel to see how she was doing with her food, then continued to eat away at the food he had just prepared for himself. He really hadn't really realized how hungry he was until he had started cooking at first, which was why he was so eager to start eating.

Amuriel smiled and chuckled, "I guess you were hungrier than you thought you were..." She shook her head softly and watched him eat, amused that he was so delighted in his food. She looked down at her own berries and deftly tossed a couple into her mouth. Let him have his meat, she thought. I have my berries!

A few moments later, Maelthra finished up his food and feeling quite satisfied. Licking his lips, he smiled and rinsed his hands off before turning towards Amuriel and nodding.
"Yeah I guess so," he said with a bit of a nervous chuckle, "But anyway... do you have anything in mind on what you want to do today? It doesn't seem like the rain is going to clear up too soon..."
As he noted that, he peered outside of the cave. It seemed that the rain had gotten even heavier now, and it appeared that storm clouds were looming in the distance. Most likely the two would have to be indoors all day unless they needed to get something from the outside. With this in mind, he glanced over at the fire and prodded it, keeping the blaze strong for the both of them.

Amuriel tossed the last berry in her mouth and swallowed it slowly as he spoke to her. She didn't want to tell him.. she was afraid. Looking out toward the rain, she wondered how to begin. Frowning, she placed a hand over her stomach unconsciously, rubbing it softly before turning back to him.
"Well... there is one thing. I would like to discuss something with you... if you don't mind?"

Maelthra sat down by the fire, facing Amuriel and relaxing in his position. Though, when she frowned, he tilted his head and listened to her request. Whatever it was that she was about to discuss with him, it seemed like it would be a serious matter. He wasn't sure what it would be about, or how bad or good it may be, but he was definitely willing to speak.
"Well of course... so.. what is it that you'd like to talk about?"
The expression on his face showed concern, but compassion still.

Amuriel watched Maelthra, trying to curl her lips back up into a smile. She was so afraid... how did she start? Where? How could she just tell him something like this...? She didn't know what to do or say that would be "correct" in a situation like this... so she said the first thing that came to mind.
"Maelthra... what would you think about starting a family...?"

"A family?"
Maelthra blinked at the question as it wasn't quite what he expected. Shifting slightly, he thought about it for a moment and rubbed the back of his neck. He wasn't really sure on the idea. Tilting his head a bit, he wondered what exactly brought up the question. And it made him wonder if it had anything to do with her recent illnesses at all.
"I'm not really sure... I... don't think I would be a very good father... I never really had one of my own I mean.. Why do you ask...?"

"I was just wondering... if you would ever want to start a family with me since we're mates... just a question, I guess," she replied, watching him fidget awkwardly. He obviously didn't seem too happy at the idea.. It made her wonder had she told him flat-out then, what would he have said? Done?
What did this mean for her? What if he didn't want children? What would she do, could she do? She had built such a nice life with him here... would she fight to keep that, or leave him be so that he could continue the way he wanted?

"I'm.. not sure... I'm not really good with kids... at least from my experience..."
Shifting again, he rubbed the back of his neck again while thinking. There had to be something more to this question than Amuriel was letting on. But he just wasn't really sure what the something was. Maybe she was just leading on that she wanted to have children, but he still couldn't be too sure. He wanted to stay with her no matter what, but he was a bit worried about a thing or two.
"Would.. you like to? If you really wanted to, then... I guess it wouldn't be too bad.. but like I said I don't think I'd be a very good father for the kid..."

Amuriel breathed out, thinking. He didn't seem totally against the idea.. Sure, he wasn't the excited father-figure, but he seemed open-minded at least. Maybe things wouldn't be so bad.. after all, so far he had only shown her compassion. Why would he suddenly do any differently here? She lowered her head and trembled. She was still afraid to say it, though she realized it was too late to retract the conversation now.. and she knew she probably wouldn't get a better opportunity.
"I don't know if I actually want to or not, but... I don't really have much choice anymore," she replied slowly, trying to take in deep breaths to keep herself calm. "I'm really sorry, Maelthra... I should have told you a few weeks ago, but I realized what is wrong with me.. I'm pregnant..."
She looked up at him shakily, somewhat terrified to see what his reaction would be.

When he saw her lower her head, Maelthra scooted closer to her and wrapped an arm around her to try and give Amuriel some comfort. As he did this, he listened to her intently, but what she said shocked him. Sure he had a very slight suspicion on what was really happening, but he never really thought it would actually be the case.
Stunned with the news, he was silent for a few moments. He wanted to make sure that he didn't just hear things incorrectly. But with the way Amuriel was acting, he was certain that he heard everything as it was. Slowly, he shook off the stunned state of his and stared into her eyes. Even if he did hear correctly, he wanted to make sure of things.
".. Are you sure...? And.. why didn't you tell me earlier...?"
