Cindy blinked at that before shaking her head, "No... I've never had green potatoes, I've had potatoes with little green bits in them but those were herbs Mom used on them."
She supposed the greenness came from the naekeurtsl, whatever they were.

Haradhel smiled widely. "Trust me," she murmured softly, "it's good. When I was a child, it was the only way I would eat any of my vegetables." She laughed again, then opened the oven door a bit and checked on the roast.
"So what sorts of food do you have in your world?" she asked Cindy curiously, leaning against the counter once more to wait.
Elrohir led them into a vacant apartment. "The men from this part of the barracks are all out at the moment," he explained, "but this apartment is empty anyways. It's better to show you an empty one, if possible, than to go uninvited into someone's personal space."
The apartment was small, only three rooms (two bedrooms, one sitting room) but it was enough for a small family to be comfortable.
"There are large kitchens on each side of the barracks," he explained, "where the men can prepare their own meals - or the women," he amended.

It was pretty much a basic apartment, though in Donovan's mind it was also more akin to a dorm room for two or three people. He mused to himself as he looked around, comfortable and cozy, and it wasn't like they were going to spend a lot of time indoors unless it was winter. So it was not like anyone was going to go stir crazy. Well.. he wasn't sure about winter though.
"That works," Donovan murmured, "Reminds me of when I went to school growing up."

"Hmmm...." Cindy thought about it carefully, "I guess it depends on what people feel on making, because of the way the family is made up there is kind of three cultures going on," she explained. "There are things that are similar like mashed potatoes, roasts, soups, veggies that are boiled and the like..."
She thought about the meals made on certain occassions and at times where it was just easlier for Kara to make meals that were shoved into ovens.
"Sometimes though it's dumplings, a sort of mashed meat with bits of vegetables stuffed into a kind of pastry, rice on some days is a major part of the diet. Lin likes to eat mochi when we get that, it's one of the few things we don't make ourselves because it takes a lot of effort to make."

Haradhel nodded. "That sounds good," she smiled. "Surprisingly similar to what we usually have ... for the most part. I don't know mochi, though."
She motioned to the table on the west wall of the room. "Go ahead and take a seat," she invited Cindy with a smile. "It'll take a while to cook, after all."
Elrohir raised one eyebrow at Donovan. "Oh?" he said in a questioning tone. "School?"

Cindy wandered over to it, taking a seat and placing her feet up onto the chair so she was holding her knee.
"Mochi is rice based, it's pretty much rice pounded into a paste, then it's shaped into a bun shaped with some sort of filling. It's sweet, and sticky."

Donovan nodded, "Most of the learning is done within the clan, but to get experience out in the world and to establish yourself as a well learn individual once we all reach a certain age we're set off to school somewhere away from home. I stayed in a building for students, with apartments similar to this for a while."

Haradhel looked thoughtful as she pulled a block of butter from the cupboard and added a spoonful to the pot. "It sounds good," she smiled, putting the butter away again. "Perhaps I should get you to write down some of your recipes for me, it would give me more of a variety of foods to make."
She was a fairly accomplished cook, and she was learning more from Ulani as well, but still, the number of things she could made was limited.
"Ah," Elrohir nodded. "I see. He led the way back out of the room again and headed down the hall towards the door where they had come in. "Well ... I guess that's most of the ranch now ... I know you only met a few people, but there are a lot more ... they're all just working, and it's probably best to let them keep working. Some of them get a bit irritable when you take them away from their work, actually."
He chuckled.
"Anyways, what do you think?"

"Hmm..." Cindy mused, "I could do that, if you don't mind they're all written using the Common Tongue characters, I was told by Yukito that when compared to Elvish the characters aren't.... phonetically correct."
In which to say, now that she thought about her, the other part of her work was cut out for her.

"It's going to take a while to get to know everyone then," Triton murmured
He really didn't have any interesting to go out hunting, and Feng and Ryu were only doing so because they needed experience. So maybe he would do that.

Donovan grinned wondering if Elrohir had anyone in mind when he said that. Who knew, but he would probably have a bit of time to find out.
"This is an excellent place," Donovan replied honestly, "And much larger than I would have imagined, but then again I had not thought how deep I was going to go when I inquired if I could."

Haradhel looked thoughtful at that. "Well ... I don't know your letters ... though Adonai, I hear, is quite the linguist. He would be able to transcribe between the alphabets. Perhaps you could enlist his help?"
She smiled. "After all, he's rather fond of you, and positively terrified of most other people." She laughed.
Elrohir chuckled at Triton. "Well, it's not so bad as it seems. I mean, we've been here only two weeks, and I think we know everyone fairly well. At any rate," he turned his attention to Donovan, "I don't know if you realize exactly how big it may just turn out to be. I wouldn't be surprised if an entire settlement came out of this ... I mean, people bringing their families out here, building their own houses, then of course their kids would grow up and start their own families ... it could go on and on."

Cindy smiled, "I scared him by accident a few times when we first met," she murmured softly.
She could remember how it took her a while after her growth to gain his trust again. Poor guy, and he was still like that from the sounds of it.
"Though I guess I could ask, but my understanding is, is that it would be make him nervous to come here."

"Well..." Donovan murmured, "If people find it safe and worth it to settle here, then they will, but we won't know for another several decades I guess, or in another year for me we'll see."
He mused on this for a while before nodding at the idea.
"Will see what occurs."

Haradhel nodded grimly. "Well, he's got to get over his shyness someday, and sooner better than later. After all, he can't hide there forever - his parents of course started the ranch, and his sister is an integral part of it. He should have been out here a long time ago. Besides, if he's just here in the house with you, I'm sure he'll be fine." She smiled reassuringly.
Elrohir chuckled. "Aye, time will tell, that's for sure." He looked around as they left the barracks. "So, should we find the others and bring them in for lunch?"
