Odette's stoic gaze became contemplative, eyes flickering with the pretty little thoughts he put into her head. It would be a chance to send out a message to that woman, to show her what happened to her kind while she was off galavanting hither and thither across the land. Oh, it'd be a nice little message for her, to simply show her rather than find her to talk.
And then An Meng Kuan's voice arose shrilly within her mind, causing the curtain to fall over the gaze she had on Yi Xian. And it was quite a heavy curtain.
She couldn't. No matter how much nasty revenge she wanted to wreak, no matter what her clan truly stood for, she couldn't. Her slender brow dipped, eyes dropping.
Her fingers that had been partially outstretched curled into a half-hearted fist, and she tried to work a careless grin onto her face.
"You're...crazy," she said, voice lacking the conviction she was known for. An inane giggle left her parted lips, face looking awkward as it was a mixture of emotion - ultimately showing her confusion.

Yi Xian watched her expression change and flit through different emotions. He pulled back his clawed hand from it's offering and let it fall slack at his side, the water causing it to bouy slightly. His eyes lost the glimmer of neuroticism and he began to pout a bit like a child that had just been told they weren't allowed to have a certain toy that they wanted.
"Crazy? Maybe so, but I'm having fun with it. It's us crazy ones that are bound to make things different in the world. It's all justice to me. I'd expect no less if one of my own clan did the same. You know... where I come from, the betrayed gets to eat the betrayee." He smirked at the thought and then blinked and pointed over to his picnic basket. "Hey are you hungry? I've got food with me."

Shinji snuggled Lena a while longer before turning his head to the side to look at her silently a moment, a faint smile on his lips. Would you like to go to the club? he asked, his voice soft as he held her close.

"Us?" she queried, a bit of a real smile working its way onto her mouth. "I certainly hope I'm not included."
Her eyes widened, upper lip curling. They ate one another? Was that healthy? Her people may have been quite ruthless themselves and known for doing gruesome misdeeds, but they never ate eachother. Not that she had heard of, anyway.
"Is that healthy?" she asked, not really expecting to be answered. She was more or less speaking to herself at this point, still rather taken aback with the tidbit he had told her of his clan. However, a second later, a wolfish grin split her lips, eyes shutting.
"You really are barbaric!"
Odette slid back into the water and bobbed there for a moment, eyes following his hand as he pointed. Food? Two-leggers food? Her lips puckered, brows rising upwards. That would be a story to take home to her friends...
Hey! I ate people food!
"Well, I guess I could try it, but it doesn't look very edible..." She was, of course, referring to his basket.

Yi Xian nodded, as he made his way to the basket. He wasn't sure if she was simply joking or if she had some sort of x-ray vision to know that the stuff in his basket wasn't appetizing to her. As he plucked the wicker thing off the ground and started to bring it back out, making sure not to let it get wet by the slowly rippling water he continued to speak.
"Of course it's healthy, why wouldn't it be? All you do is carve the fur off so you can make a rug out of later and dig in. Then again we lupine tend to like eating things raw, maybe you're more used to something else?" Yi Xian spoke quietly as he plucked out some of the tidbits from the basket, offering her some cheese. "Here?"

Liam nodded and moved to sit up, letting her stay rested on the blanket while he gathered their things and put them back in the basket. He pulled himself to his feet and pulled Lena up as well, smiling as their items disappeared, returning to their places back home. Shall we then? he asked, smiling brightly to his lady love.

"Because," she tried to reason. "It looks like dried seaweed...or that stuff boats are made out of. I didn't know you could eat it."
Wait...fur? Raw? What? She gave a rapid blink when he reached into the basket, lips forming a small 'o'. Well, okay...you don't eat that thing. Things come out of it.
Heh, duh Odette. She knew that. Really. She gave an inane giggled and colored faintly at her own stupidity.
Clearing her throat, she made to brush off her earlier words of stupidity and take his offering. It looked funny, but she wasn't about to turn down the chance to try something different.
"Raw? Well...is there any other way to eat something?" She sniffed the cheese and licked it, before finally taking a nibble. Hm, not bad - dry, but not bad. Then again, everything she ate was wet and cold, as opposed to the varieties that could be found above the surface.

Yi Xian smirked and took out a small container with a quivering substance in it. He popped the top off it and let the bsket rest in the water, making sure it would float before releasing it completely. There was some lining in the basket so it wouldn't be too bad but likely everything would become cold. Once the quivering thing was untopped he took out a spoon and scooped a bit from it, letting it jiggle back and forth before offering the bit to Odette.
"This is called Jell-O." Yi Xian grinned, "You know if I'd have known I was going to be doing a picnic in the water I would have made a raft to rest on.. maybe we can do this again?"

The mermaid watched with avid fascination as the substance jiggled, leaning forward to peer at it closely.
"It...moves," she stated, eyes catching the food's awkward dance. She looked up curiously and quirked a brow. "Is it alive?" Before he could answer, she bit down on the spoon and tried to take the entire thing with her. How was she supposed to know only one part of it was edible, and that was the jiggly stuff?
She looked up stubbornly when he didn't let go.
"Well, all right," she said from around the spoon, giving a doe-eyed blink. She finally pulled back and wiped the corner of her mouth, deciding that the hard thing with this 'Jell-O' on it didn't taste good anyway.

"Not alive it's..." Yi Xian blinked and tugged back on the spoon when she tried to take it all. Perhaps he would have to be a little more forthcoming with the explinations. "I'ts just made with a combination of things so it has a semi solid state making it wriggle around like that. I'm glad I decided on the silverware rather than taking plastic stuff with me..."
The wolf murred quietly as his toes clawed into the wet sand beneath him and he continued to pull out various goodies, finally getting a piece of cold steak for himself and taking a huge hunk out of it, his stomach growling as he did so. A toothy smile crossed his face, obviously content with the meat.
"Deer." He murmured when he finished his bite, offering her some.

"It tastes...funny." She rubbed the top of her mouth with her tongue, having enjoyed the taste, but finding the texture extremely...odd. It had been so sweet! Jell-O, was, of course, low on the 'sweet' scale, but for someone who had never really tasted anything sugary...Odette made a pleased noise, sucking on her tongue.
She watched him closely, akin to that of a cat watching the end of a wriggling string - it's prey. She canted her head to the side when he took out the steak, noticing his obvious pleasure while eating it. Mouthing the words after he spoke, she tenatively took it and cringed the moment she did.
Strong! It was strong! She chewed delicately and with the back of her mouth, wondering what in Poseidon's name she was really eating...
"Deer...? What's that?" she asked, rubbing her tongue roughly against her teeth since the taste still lingered in her mouth.

Yi Xian took out another small piece for himself, urging her to finish of what he'd given to her. The dried meat wasn't what he would have choosen first off but he couldn't find a way to carry raw meat in his basket without it either going rotten or gaining the attention of other predators in the area. As nice as it was to fight he didn't like chancing loosing his meal to either other animals or simply getting dropped in the dirt in the midst of a skirmish.
"A deer is a land animal, it eats grass and there's plenty of them so eat up and enjoy. I guess this isn't the best way to see if you like them since it's made into jerky. Dried and salted I mean, but maybe that's for the best. Don't want to overload you with too much of a good thing."
