As he had suspected, the beetle had somehow seen him. Maybe it’s antennas had sensed him instead of its eyes actually spotting him. Whichever it was, the beetle scuffled away fearfully, going into a small patch of glass that obscured Tarou’s view. It was then, that Tarou noticed that he was pretty close to the ground, and he had actually succeeded in performing a push up. Finally, he was getting somewhere. Grinning to himself, he looked around the patch of ground in front of him, wishing that he could see the beetle again. To thank it, or something. Probably not.

Shrugging, he looked for something else to focus on. The academy grounds were something between a gravel field and a grass field. There were tufts of grass growing here and there. However, one could tell that this was in the beginning meant to be a gravel field. Bits of rock and debris could be seen from under the grass, small and meaningless. The grass had fought its way up to the surface and past the gravel, and It now covered most of it. Because of Kiri’s moist atmosphere, the grass was healthy and green, growing long and healthy. Tiny transparent spots of dew could be seen on it, if he looked closely. Kiri must be full of fireflies, tarou thought. Fireflies drank the dew on wet plants early in the morning. Kiri just had them all the time, so it was probably not any trouble at all for the fireflies to get their hands on it.

There were some contradictions though. If it was moist all the time in Kiri, it meant that the fireflies wouldn’t be able to spread their wings and fly. And in the first place, fireflies lived near rivers, wear it was warm. Unfortunately, Kiri was not warm. Perhaps fireflies didn’t live here. Or else all the dew would be gone, drank up by the fireflies.

Pushing himself up, tarou went down again onto the gravel-but-grass field.

It seemed that doing push ups was a luck game. Just like one of those lottery games, where people would pay to get a ticket and hope that they would win. Tarou was paying with his energy, and he kept on losing. He only had so much energy left before he would have to rest. He didn’t even know the reasons why he fell this time. Of course, Tarou had always been bad at telling when his limits were, so when he finally reached them, he ended up flopping on the ground like a fish out of water. Heaving a sigh, he got back into position.

He had gotten more mud on to his clothes, and he could feel a wet patch on his forehead and upper lip. He must’ve looked ridiculous by now, with mud streaked all over his clothes and face. He reached his hands up to wipe the mud away from his face, and realized too late: with more mud on his hand, he had only succeeded in smearing dirt and mud further onto his face, and in a wider area. This was however not the time to start thinking about his clothes. Training in Kiri was probably like this all the time; he would just have to get used to it.

It was strange how mud was on this field, however. If this was originally a gravel fiend, why was there mud? Looking around, he spotted the forestry surrounding the academy. Perhaps the forest was expanding like a virus, spreading dirt everywhere. This was probably a good thing, but Tarou couldn’t halp but grimace. Now if only the forests weren’t here, he might’ve been doing these exercises without mud all over his new training clothes.

Then again, it was probably way better than working with grass stains and scrapes down his arms. Grass stains were harder to get rid of, and he could tell from experience that diggings his hands and putting most of his weight on the gravel sort of hurt. And if he had fallen, there would’ve been long scrapes along his arms.

He pushed down on his arms. Watching consciously as the ground got closer.

Tenshi had took his sensei's advice and tried to let it just slide through his body. He could feel some energy going throughout his body. Is this it? My chakra flowing through my body... like snow in the wind... He held his hands up, and looked at the gauntlets on his hands. He tried forming the chakra, but the gauntlets began suppressing it, controlling the amount that was released. He realized that he needed these gauntlets on for his own protection as well as the protection of those around him, however he wished they could be taken off. He felt like a prisoner, chained to himself. He looked at the other students and how they had progressed. He didn't take it personally, he was out of school for about a year...

Tenshi attempted to focus the chakra again, but he was too focused in his last accomplishment. He tried forcing it out, but he couldn't find the flow of chakra in his body, and instead strained himself. He gasped for air and sat down, his vision going blurry slightly as the blood rushed to his brain. He held his head until his vision slowly came back, and his body stopped tingling. He stood up to attempt it again.

Once Tenshi was feeling better, the young Fubuki began attempting to tap into his pool of chakra. He tried relaxing, but it was too soon to try it again. His vision was blurry almost instantly and he sat back down in a chair. Get your head right... You are stressing too much.... It comes easy, just like that last time... He took a few deep breaths and remained seated for a while.

The fight seemed to be going as well as it could be for students so new to the academy. Although Rai appeared to be a bit more advanced in the curriculum. Saihoushi was engaging in some interesting hit and run tactics which Rai had tried to perform but... didn't really. Andou shrugged, some people's personalities weren't cut out for that tactic, which was a shame because it was the safest one.

He watched Miyazaki as he worked on his upper body strength nearby. He had finished the hand seals quickly and Andou wondered if he had really got them; he'd have to test him later while working on chakra control. Meanwhile it seemed that he was engaging in a staring contest with a beetle... kids were weird. Fubuki still hadn't emerged from the classroom, and Andou wondered what was taking him so long. Maybe he and Miyazaki could spar after they were done with these exercises.

Feeling out of breath and sort of faint, Tarou finally stopped trying. It was about time that he stopped to take a rest, anyways. He didn’t want to end up on the ground unconsciousness, because that would just be plain embarrassing. Crossing his legs to sit down he heaved a sigh. This was going to take a bit longer than the hand seals, and he would probably have to rest plenty.

While he rested he looked through the hand seal booklet, flipping through the pages and then putting it down. Trying to not look at the hand booklet, he went through all the hand seals that he had learnt in the past hour. It was a bit hard but he soon got them all; observing how each finger wrapped around his hands seemed to have been worth all the work.

His mind wasn’t taken off of the push ups however, and he stood up to look for his teacher. Maybe he would ask him for some tips, or something. “’scuse me…” He trailed, not sure what to say. That he couldn’t do push ups? That was kind of pathetic… well, he basically had nothing to lose. The faster he got this done, the faster he could join the others with sparring. “do you have any tips on doing push ups? My arms are too weak, haha..” He gave a weak laugh to attempt a casual tone in his voice. His hands fidgeted with his pants.

Moister covered all of the exposed skin on Gwyn's body, a general dampness in the air seemed to make the girl heavy. She marched along drudgingly through the grass and the mucky mud. Her once bare feet caked in the brown wet dirt. Her toes felt every individual pebble, every puddle, every soaked blade of grass, and as her toes felt these object a small smile crossed the girls naturally dower face. It was nice, all these changes in texture. It help provide excitement for an otherwise black and silent world. It helped her focus on the world around her, being connected to the ground like this. It was then that she stopped in a large patch of mud, wiggling her toes as she sank deeper and deeper into the substance. Gwyn became delighted at the feeling of mud, how it could be thick like dirt yet run swift as water. And the texture, it was so magnificent! Indescribable to anything else her feet had had the pleasure of walking on. Grainy, smooth, sticky, scratchy, all applied but none gave it justice. Gwyn wiggled her toes a few more times before begrudgingly continuing her trek forwards. The feel of removing her feet from the substance cause the little girl to giggle.

As she pushed forwards through the damp air Gwyn took a deep breath. The cold water in the air almost clinging like a vice to her lungs. It was always cold in Kiri... Cold and wet. The once bright smile was destroyed and replaced by that of un-interest, boredom, and a bit of frustration. Always the same day in Kiri it felt like. Cold, wet air in, warm, wet air out. Gwyn felt the perspiration of her breath on her face, sitting on top of the layer of dew that was begging to take hold of her skin and hair. She would have pulled her hood down but whenever she was outside in Kiri it made her feel as if her head was in a sauna while the rest of her was left outside in the rain.

Gwyn stopped, she didn't know how she had gotten there, or even how long it had taken her but she had arrived at the academy. Directly next to the theater, or so she assumed, she had no true way of knowing. But something about where she stood just felt safe, and usually that meant being in the direct presence of someone with a lot more life experience than her own. She took count of the people around her... Roughly twenty? No that didn't seem right. Gwyn focused again, there were more people her age she knew that, she didn't know how she knew, but she knew... Most likely because this was an academy. What a stupid question. Gwyn thought to herself. Or, Maybe not so stupid. After all, how do I know where I am. As far as I know I'm lost in the woods going insane.

Gwyn bowed, for some reason it just felt right. Announce yourself dumby... The internal struggle within Gwyn's own mind seemed to last for some time. Finally she spat out, or at least felt herself spit out, "Hello, Gwyn Yubie, reporting."

Andou gave Rou another once over as the boy approached him. Typical looking kid, and he still couldn't find a defining feature to peg the boy's name to in order to remember him... he would have to work on it. Maybe getting to know him better would produce something.

"Come, sit for a moment," he patted the grass next to him, under the shade of the tree. Not that there was much sunlight to be shielded from, but bear with Andou. "Or actually, you could continue your push-ups, if you can hold a conversation like that... it would be beneficial to your training. The furthest runner gets the elephant, after all" he quoted blithely.

"You know, when I was younger, I was pretty bad at doing push-ups," Andou continued matter of factly. "I was pretty bad at anything physical, actually. My parents were worried that I wouldn't turn out to be a good shinobi. But eventually through hard work I got the strength needed. All it takes it really hard work. And maybe a better posture. Keep your back straight. Normally, I ask students to do push-ups slowly, to maximise the strain on the arms. But if you're not ready for that, just do them quickly."

He turned after hearing the footsteps of another child approaching. It was a young girl, although you could barely tell she was one underneath all the layers of clothes and hood. There was something a bit off to her, like she was in her own world or something, but Andou couldn't pinpoint it and frankly didn't want to before he understood her a bit more. At least that's what he figured he would be doing if she were a new student.

"Gwyn Yubie?"
he checked his notes and found her name. "That's right. You're a member of my class. Right now, it's just free time of sorts. It's a taijutsu lesson for the more advanced students, and the new students are just starting on their basics. You should probably do that too." He offered Gwyn another hand seals booklet, produced seemingly out of nowhere. Andou was nothing if not unprepared. "They're detailed in this book, and I'd just like you to copy them and see what effect those finger positions have on your chakra."

Thank God, I'm not crazy.Gwyn thought to herself, she knew that she wasn't alone, and what more that she was being handed something. She carefully reached out her arm, slowly, moving it left and right, up and down, to be sure she wasn't reaching to far past whatever this object was. Suddenly she felt her hand make contact with a hard rectangular thing. A book no doubt... No doubt at all, for not long after she had she felt the book she knew exactly what was she was expected to do with it, handseals? Gwyn took the book with with confusion. What was she supposed to do with this garbage? She opened it up without looking feeling the pages. They weren't in brail... What did he expect her to do magically absorb the ink through her fingers and have the Gods strike her with a flash of brilliance so the she would suddenly know what to do? THAT WAS CRAZY!... Or was it? She had, after all, done stranger things. She could walk a straight line without any sense of indication, or rather, perfect sense of indication. Which under her predicament, should not have been possible at all! Very well, I accept your challange...

"Oh, yes... Umm, thank you?" Gwyn was a little flustered, after all in she had very little experience talking, and the feeling of her vocal cords numbly vibrating was a sensation no unlike when a bug craws lightly over the skin. Vocal cords and talking aside Gwyn felt something else in the air. Another student perhaps? That must have been it, after all if she had been correct about the teacher why would she be correct now? He must have traveled over for the same reason she had, to get help from the one set their to help them. Perfectly logical.

Gwyn slowly reach down and pat the moist ground with her fingertips, ensuring that she was sitting on wet grass and not a big mud puddle that she would slowly sink into, After ensuring her tucuss would have a good spot to rest she took a seat blankly feeling the pages. Suddenly it hit her, gently pacing the book on the ground Gwyn flipped off her hood and brought her arms out from under her cloak. Her fingers spider-ed themselves together to form the first handseal. Tori... "The Bird." As the handseal completed and odd sensation ran through her, as if someone had just jiggled the lock containing all the potential within her.

“…The furthest runner gets the elephant, after all"

Tarou resisted the urge to ask what the teacher had meant by that. It was sort of really hard to understand, but he strained a smile as he walked over to the teacher, and sat down next to him. Now that he actually could get a close look at the teacher, he was a bit strange. It wasn’t as if Tarou had much experience with people other than his family, but this man had very white hair. Perhaps it was grey, and his life so far had been filled with stress and misfortune. That thought was just plain depressing, so he decided think of it as the man’s natural hair color. At least his eyes were a normal brown, and it was easier to stare at: The man’s hair almost blended into the background, since the mist was quite thick.

No matter how white his hair was, Tarou was nonetheless glad that Andou was a nice teacher. He let his shoulders relax and his posture slacken, a sort-of smile crossing his lips. His back however straightened and his posture was back to being perfect, after he heard Andou tell him that a good posture was important. Frowning slightly he tried to straighten his back in a way that was comfortable.

“I’m perfectly fine at climbing trees and going hiking and all that stuff…” He mumbled, seriously considering it. He was pretty good at doing all those things, but he had never actually conditioned a specific part of his body. He wondered how strong the other students were, trying to remember their names but realizing that he never got them. He didn’t really want to fall behind or be behind; some students graduated far quicker because of the gap in their abilities.

He was about to add on something obscure, like a ‘I’m just wondering, haha’ when Andou turned his head. Mirroring his teacher’s actions he turned his head to see a girl walking their way. She gave a bow, and he bowed back to the girl, not quite knowing why. Her eyes were something quite fearful, he thought absent-mindedly, not as scared as he should be. It must’ve been some kind of… Kekkei genkai or something. He sort of liked what she was wearing, but chose to not say anything. He did however give her a small wave of the hand after bowing, a small smile on his face.

Mizuiro looked around for a multicoloured wall he could use to really challenge him. he first looked at the wall with targets and was about to go in that direction when it clicked he could be killed. So he looked around some more. But there was no real challenging walls around here. So he just practiced what he was doing before, mixing the wall colour with the texture of it until he looked lie was the wall.

He merged them quite well this time round. it was almost perfect, but he did want a multicoloured wall to really get what this technique was all about.

Somewhat curious as of what the girl was going to do now, he watched her take the booklet. Seeing as he got enough rest by now, he looked over to Andou and thanked him, standing up and walking over to the girl. Maybe he could talk casually with her as she did the hand seals. Maybe help her out, or something. He wasn’t sure if he could get along with the girl or not, but being conscious of what could happen was probably no good. Even if she did look a bit strange… That didn’t mean she was any less of a person, right? It was most likely a kekkei genkai though, he repeated in his head. He had never seen black-and-silver eyes before.

“Um, my name is Miyazaki Tarou.” He said. “Maybe... We can keep each other company.” Tarou tried to keep a friendly tone to what he said, and then sat down next to her. He didn’t want to seem like a pushover; technically, he could sit anywhere he wanted to, and in a sudden burst of bravery, he decided that he was going to sit next to her without asking for permission. Tarou was indeed a very, very, brave boy. He should get a medal for this. Snapping out of his reverie he proceeded to carefully lie down on the grass, trying to find a good position for the push ups.

Repeating what Andou had said in his head, he tried to go down slowly on his hands, to make a better use of his push ups. He had said that it would take time right? Maybe Tarou just needed to stop focusing so much on getting it done. Quality over quantity, or something. He sighed. It was easier said than done. He didn’t know how many times he had told himself to just be patient. It never worked. It did give him some relief however, to know that he would indeed get better after some time.

Gwyn felt a pair of eyes fall upon her own, and quickly pulled her hood over her head once more. "I would rather you not stare..." Gwyn snapped, not meaning to be rude, but out of a heavy protection of her own self image. She felt bad not even a moment after she had said those rude things. Reluctantly she removed the hood once more but kept her eyes shut. Her senses now fixed on this intruder she had completely forgotten about the book. Her hand pulled back from the soggy pages and she found herself folding her arms in front of herself. Forcing her eyes shut began feeling unnatural. After all, the main purpose for closing ones eyes was for self protection, to make sure ones vision was not damaged, but what did that matter in her case? She could rip her eyes right out of her head and it wouldn't make one sense of difference. She slowly opened her eyes, after all what did she care if he stared, he might not even exist... No he existed, she knew he had something, and for someone to say something they must exist.

"Miyazaki Tarou" How did she know that name? It must have been his name... How did she know he was a he? What did any of it matter anyways? Every question lead Gwyn down a road that depraved and belittled her own self image. "Company.” That was a word she had not thought of in a long, long time. How could anyone keep company to a girl who could no longer, and for that matter could never, connect to the outside world except by a bunch of lucky guesses? Regardless it would be rude for her not to reply, but hell, she still wasn't even sure he was truly there.

"Gwyn Yubie..." Gwyn outstretched her hand in his direction, as far as she could sense she was the first to attempt physical contact... Maybe he wasn't there after all, "I'm sorry for snapping at you... Why are you afraid?" WHAT A STUPID QUESTION! She didn't know she was afraid did she? No she was sure, something about him was apprehensive... No that wasn't the right word. It seemed as if he was trying to prove something by making a gesture of kindness towards her.

Tarou was somewhat surprised by the other girl’s reaction, and he stopped his push ups in mid air. Not feeling very bothered by the fact that he had just failed another push up, he sat up and grabbed her hand, shaking it. The girl seemed to be a lot less confident than what he first suspected; she was defensive and somewhat snappy; this made Tarou a bit tense, but he soon loosened up when the Gwyn apologized for it. Letting go of her hand, he got into what he called his ‘push up position’, ready to start again.

He pretended to be very focused on trying to get into his position and going down slowly. Digging inside for an answer that wouldn’t insult her, he opened his mouth, not sure what to say. “I-it’s just that..” He paused, smacking his lips together in a nervous gesture. “I-I’m really bad at making friends, you know? Where I used to live, I only really talked to my family.. Not that they were mean or anything. It’s actually the villagers that were mean.” Oh no, he was rambling and still hadn’t answered the question.

“A-anyways!!!” He said, almost at a shout. “Since you were alone and I was alone, I thought we could do things together. I can help you with the hand seals, since I’ve already finished them.” He finished, his voice starting out strong but almost ending with a whisper. He gestured to the booklet that lay in front of Gwyn with one hand, the other straining to hold his whole weight. Putting his hand back to it’s original place, he went down again for another push up.
