Luke's ear swiveled to hear a song being sung. It sounded familiar, but he was being depressed so he wasn't paying much attention. So he went back to staring at the fish and turtles being happy with their companions.
Yumi smiled as she heard him walk away with what dignity she let him have. He was so fun to tease!

Kaya approached the pond, still singing, as she smiled down at the koi fish that were swimming all around in the water. She knelt by the shore, reaching down into the water and letting a few of the fish nibble gently on her fingers.
Razz arrived in the kitchen, ignoring the glares he got for being late, and started in on his work again.

Luke looked to see Kaya playing with the fish in the pond. He just sat there and watched the new teacher, wondering if she'd notice him sitting under the bridge by himself.
Soon Yumi left her room, heading to the dining room for dinner. She was getting hungry and dinner should be ready soon.

The fish finally lost interest in Kaya, swimming elsewhere. The woman ceased her song, instead choosing to look around her surroundings. As her eyes passed over the bridge over the pond, she caught sight of a shadow. Squinting, she tried to make out who it was, if it was someone she'd know. "Hello? Is someone there?"
Razz was smirking to himself as he watched other kitchen boys go about the boring chore of setting the tables for the family and the students. It was thanks to Yumi's constant good reviews that he'd been allowed a permanent spot on the cooking team that assembled the dinners for the family of the castle.

Luke suddenly felt very shy when she called out to the shadow he made. His ears flopped down as he backed away before running inside. For some reason, he couldn't face her. He couldn't tell her who he was, that he liked her, how he was so alone, but he felt like he couldn't tell her anything in his heart.
Yumi soon sat at her usual table in one of the well lit corners. It had already been set up so she took the napkin and delicately laid it over her lap and waited.

Kaya frowned as the shadow moved. Had it been her imagination? No. Definitely not. She stood and started to run down the bank. She was determined to solve this mystery, and when she reached the bridge, she ducked inside. She stopped and looked around, waiting for her eyes to adjust to the dark.
Razz watched as Yumi came in and went to her usual table. A serving boy started to leave, ready to take the princess's order, but Razz stopped him by the collar. "I'll give you her plate when it's ready," he told the boy, who nodded and went off to someone else. Razz returned to the kitchen to get to work on the dish he'd decided on making for Yumi.

Luke hid in one of the darker corners when Kaya pursued him under the bridge. He tried not to whimper and just stay perfectly still, his dark red coat blending in nicely with the dark and the dirt.
Yumi waited patiently, playing with her fork as she waited for food. What would Razz serve her tonight, she wondered. What was going to be her next food adventure?

Kaya continued after she heard no noise, wondering if there was even anything there at all. Her eyes adjusted well from nights of wandering the darkened desert, but she still wished she had a wild dog or one of the cheetah cubs with her, possibly, to see better. She couldn't see much that appeared to be human, and just as she was about to turn back and leave the bridge, she was sure she heard someone breathing. Turning again, she bit her lip. "Hello? Anybody there?" she called, but she didn't sound confident in asking.
Razz quickly got to work, whipping up a noodle dish, knowing that that was Yumi's favorite. The dish consisted of thick, udon noodles, but with a cheesy sauce he'd created. He'd already prepared the sauce and the noodles, and all that was left was to put the plate together and retrieve a salad. With a tray in hand, he backed out of the kitchen, carefully making his way to the princess where she sat and putting the tray down at her table. "You're a guinea pig again, just so you know," he informed her, ruffling her hair before returning to the kitchen.

Luke watched her look around and start to leave. But he had relaxed his breathing too early. And she had heard it. There was no use in hiding anymore... So Luke carefully got up and slowly moved towards Kaya.
Yumi growled a little when Razz ruffled her hair. She shot him an angry look, fixing her hair before starting to eat as he left. The udon was divine, but this sauce.... These did not work. After making sure it didn't taste right, she called Razz back.

Kaya saw the figure moving towards her, and she held her breath. Clearly they were taller than her, and in the dark slightly frightening. But she'd been trying to figure out who they were, so she stood her ground, hands on her hips as she watched them approach.
Razz raised his eyebrows as he came back. He was wondering if she'd catch the mistake he'd realized he made when he was heading back from her table. He'd missed an important ingredient in the sauce, and he knew the taste just wouldn't be the same.

Luke stayed in his wolf form and slowly crawled into the light so Kaya could see him. He still had dirt in his fur from hiding, and her body language was intimidating.
Yumi looked to Razz when he came over. She handed the plate back. "The noodles were lovely, but the sauce.... It's..."

Kaya smiled a little at the sight of the wolf as he came out. She relaxed herself and knelt down. "Aw, it was just you. You scared me for a bit there, fella," she said, reaching out to pet his head.
Razz nodded. "I know, I missed an ingredient. Want something different? You can actually order whatever you want this time, y'know," he said, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. He felt a little embarrassed, but he was glad that he was the one taking care of his princess, or else he'd have had a big red blush across his face.

Luke, being the shy pup he was, whimpered a little and retreated under the bridge when Kaya tried to pet him. He curled back up in his corner and whined a little. Though he wanted to tell her so many things, he couldn't bring himself to do so.
Yumi thought for a moment or two before smiling some. "How about just some of those udon noodles? Those were lovely." she said with a smile.

Kaya frowned. The wolf had been perfectly normal previously, but now he was acting scared and wounded. "Are you alright?" she asked, moving slowly closer, but not cornering the poor wolf in the corner. She was suddenly worried that maybe he'd been hurt.
Razz nodded. "Sure. The sauce still has a few kinks. Glad you liked the noodles, though," he said, flashing a grin at her. He took the plate back to the kitchen and started getting to work on a new batch of the noodles.

Luke nestled more into the corner. whimpering more to himself. It wasn't that he was hurt. He was just scared. Of what, he had no idea...
Yumi smiled back and took a sip of water to get the taste of the sauce out of her mouth. But she waited patiently, humming quietly to herself.
