Well, this was harder than he had expected. He had tried bending his arms to get even remotely closer to the ground, but at around100 degrees fold, his arms had started to shake, making him stay in place as he tried to go down further. If he had forcibly done so, he would have most likely fallen flat on his face and into the mud. Sitting up, he gave his arms a stretch. They were pretty sore, and Tarou wasn’t enjoying this at all.

He had once heard of “push ups for girls”. It was when the push ups were made easier by having the knees touch the ground. Tarou considered that a possibility for a moment, and decided against it. He was not going to do push ups designed for girls. He wasn’t being sexist at all, but his pride would not let him do something that made it easier. He would have to pull his own weight from now on, especially after he got into a gennin team. He couldn’t start slacking now, or else h e would be dependent on it later.

Heaving a deep sigh, he got back down on both arms and legs once again, ready to try another one. Perhaps he should try going down very fast and coming up very fast. He had heard that doing it slow was a bit more painful rather than doing it fast. It had even been proven, when he and his dad had gone hiking near Konoha. If he ran up the hill, he would be out of breath but less tired than before.

Tarou grinned through his gritted teeth when he successfully went down to about 90 degrees. He couldn’t go down any further so he brought himself up, keeping himself in that position. He knew that he had to do ten push ups at least, but did he have to do them all in a row without resting? Because this was getting too tiring. Deciding that doing so would take too much energy he sat up, staring emptily in space.

He knew that ten push ups, even though it was such a small number, was a big deal to him. He could barely do one, so it made sense that he was only doing ten at the moment. Sighing again at his lack of muscles on his arms he looked for the other two students that were sparring. The mist was pretty thick so he couldn’t quite see them anywhere, although the teacher was just a few feet away. He felt a bit embarrassed that the teacher would be watching his failures at push ups, but he was glad that the other two hopefully would not be seeing it at all. Sighing again, he got into position, ready for another gruelling push up.

Maybe he would try different push ups that were not for girls. He had been taught many different versions by his dad, who had been eager to teach him something that would help him. It was too bad that Tarou always ignored him and went outside to play in the forest.

Tarou’s face seemed to be forever etched into a frown, and he hastily put it back to a neutral expression. Besides, his mom had told him that if he frowned so much, his face would stick that way, and he really didn’t want to be unhappy looking for the rest of his life.

Tarou had been so intent on deciding which push ups he would do next, he had not been concentrating enough. He unfortunately, fell on his face. He had found out something quite fortunate while he did so, however. Apparently, even though the ground looked pretty wet from the precipitation, it was actually pretty firm. Of course, it was still very much wet, but it wasn’t like getting a face full of mud in the face. Somewhat pleased with his new discovery, he wiped his face clean of any debris with his hands. Being optimistic was a good thing, Tarou thought to himself.

He got back into position once again, getting ready to attempt at another push up.

That was two push ups. It was all nice and dandy that he was actually able to do these push ups to a certain extent. However, there must be a better way. Tarou found himself getting tired more than ever, especially now that he was holding his position for a longer time. He was still on all four s, getting ready to go down. It wasn’t extremely tiring, and if he put all of his weight equally on each limb, it wasn’t that bad.

Still, he needed a plan. Maybe he should think about something while he did push ups. Yes, that was it. Although concentrating on trying his best was important, if he pondered on how tired he was, it didn’t quite help either. He decided to think about something that irritated him. Perhaps the anger would help him muster the strength to do the push ups. Tarou tried to think hard, looking for an irritating memory.

His little brother came in mind. Tarou loved his younger brother, but Jirou was very annoying at times. Anytime Tarou had done anything bad, even by an accident, Jirou would ‘tattle’ on him. It came to the point that Jirou would tell on him for the smallest things. Just because he had spilled everybody’s supper on the floor, it didn’t mean that they couldn’t eat it! Now why did Jirou have to tell on him for that…? Jirou was the real mommy’s boy, since he always was telling on Tarou to get his mother’s attention.

Putting that on his mind, he pushed down.

((Hiding and all that one more time. Oh, FFS, what a stroke of luck . . .

Kuri staggered back again, in disbelief that he was losing this badly to someone who hated fighting. He faded back into the shadows again and hoped that they mists obscured him enough to hide the look of disappointment that occupied his entire face. He took refuge behind a large target used for target practice and lowered the sound of his heavy breath, not wanting to attract attention to himself. He knew that he had little time left in this fight unless he could come up with something brilliant to turn the tides in his favor, but methods escaped him.

Rai growled softly as he watched Kuri fade into the mist once more. "Kuri could really be a hunter ninja if he keeps this up." He tried to chase after him once more but Kuri seemed to be getting farther and farther away. He wanted to growl and yell but getting flustered helped nothing, so he kept his mouth shut and listened. A faint rustling was all he needed to hear. A smirk came across his face. "Not this time!" He rushed off towards the sound as he drew closer to Kuri.

((Technically I'm still successfully hidden, rolling a new move silently.
MS: 12 . . . the world hates me this morning.))

Kuri cursed under his breath as he heard Rai coming towards him. The kid finally opened his ears and heard him move, but that just meant that he would have to move. There was no way Rai saw him, right? Kuri darted off somewhere, heading towards a small group of trees to try and keep out of sight. If Rai landed another hit, Kuri knew he was done for, so he had to makes sure he could take his friend down before he got the chance.

Rai couldn't see where Kuri was. He cursed silently. He looked around and smirked. "If I can't see him then he won't be able to find me if I do the same." Rai tried to hide in a near by bush. He slowly crept along as his feet dragged across a pile of leaves. He winced hoping he hadn't been heard He continued to walk around slowly in the mist moving along the out stretched trees and bushes. He smiled to himself. "This isn't that hard." He thought to himself. He stopped at a near by tree and stayed there.

Thinking of his mother and his younger brother when they were all relatively happy didn’t seem to help with the exercise. Instead he became somewhat sombre, looking at the ground intently. When his arms decided that they weren’t too happy with him for making him stay there in place he straightened them, not bothering to pretend that he was still trying. Maybe something that was once a happy memory wasn’t very good. He knew that there was no point in denying his mother’s disappearance or memories, but he would come to cross that bridge when he felt like it; which was definitely not now.

He needed to think of a better memory, and fast. He was starting to get tired, as in actually drained. It wasn’t just one body part being tired now, but his whole body felt somewhat tired. Deciding that he would think about something else, he went through the events that had happened since he had moved there. They really couldn’t bring anything with them, so they had to start anew. At least they were living in the city now, and they had a lot of things they had never had; like a TV. It was fascinating that people watched interesting shows on a box, and Tarou had indulged himself in that as soon as he had moved in here. His father told him that he could only watch an hour a day. Tarou really didn’t mind, since sitting in the room for along amounts of time made him restless.

When his mind was well concentrate on TV, of all things, Tarou went to do another push up.

Now that he had gotten himself started, his mind was hardly on the push ups anymore. It was somewhere faraway, thinking about his journey since what had happened in Konoha. Tarou himself had changed quite a bit. He didn’t like to admit it, since he considered himself a happy person, even now. Still, there was something different, something that confused his younger brother and made his father frown.

He supposed that he was definitely much quieter than before. But this wasn’t because he was depressed or anything. At least he didn’t think so. There just wasn’t much to do in the town, no matter how large it was. Tarou wasn’t too used to hanging around in town, and he found himself missing the forests of Konoha. Back then, he could go out whenever he wanted to, play around with his younger brother. The forest was his second home, located right outside his first one. Of course, there was no forest in Kiri, and they lived in a smaller place. There really wasn’t much to do except for go to school.

Tarou had become less exciting to his brother throughout the past few weeks. However, that didn’t stop Jirou from making any friends. Jirou was very charismatic, and since he was younger he didn’t understand many things. Which was sort of a blessing for his younger brother; he didn’t feel the disconnection that Tarou had often felt with the villagers. As soon as they had moved in to Kirigakure, Jirou had made it his task to befriend other kids in the neighbourhood. Tarou felt a bit lonely, but was glad nonetheless.

How many push ups did he have now? Three. Answering his own question in his head, he pushed up for another one.

So lost in thought, Tarou almost didn’t notice that his arms had buckled. He stopped himself from tackling the dirt with his face, however. It was pretty close, but he had caught himself. Giving a short sigh, he wondered if he should take a break. He was getting tired, and the spar was actually going somewhere. Looking up from his position he stared at the fight that could barely be seen because of the fog. There was some partial movement, meaning that there was definitely some action going on. Tarou silently cursed the fog for making it hard to see. However, this was probably what he should’ve expected from a village that was named Kiri.

It wasn’t as if there was a choice in where he could live. The truth was, his father knew a family member in Kiri, and that was the whole reason they had come here. Right now Kirigakure had no kirikage, and things were a bit unorganized. Tarou thought that they were managing far better than Konoha however; there was a hokage in Konohagakure, but that had not stopped the civil war from breaking out. It was actually pretty gloomy, now that he thought about it.

Turning his head away from the endless fog he focused his eyes on his two hands, covered in dirt and grit. He’d have to wash his hands later, and remember to keep his hands away from his face. He was always getting it dirty because he did that.

((Spot: 6
Listen: 13 ))

Kuri heard the sounds of Rai hiding, but made no indication of the sort. instead, he stayed exactly where he was, quiet as a mouse as he took a few deep breaths. He had two choices, either wait Rai out and recover from the beating he had received, or just come out and end it. He had half a mind to do the latter. If he took time to rest, he knew Rai would do the same, and the battle would just restart unless Rai found him first. Or, he could admit defeat and train more so that he never lost to Rai, or anyone else, again.

He sat in waiting, deciding what to do. He knew that it was only a matter of time before Rai found him where he sat, but for now he decided to hope for the best.

(Grrr you lol )
Rai looked around and tried to listen to the sounds around him trying to pick up on anything. He sighed and walked into the open. He had to finish it. This would get him no where. He stepped out from around a tree and started to walk out into the open. Well as open as you can be in the mist. He looked around, still trying to find out where Kuri was. He smiled and sighed. "Hiding and sneakin' around ain't my strong suit. He on the other hand is very good at it. Grrr. Fine." He stood out in the open and waited for him.

((Lol, I'm not moving around anymore, so you just have to roll to see me now.))

Kuri listened as Rai gave up his hiding spot. It was all he could do to stop himself from breathing a sigh of relief. All he wanted was to be able to take one more hit before the fight was over. He had a plan, but would need lady luck on his side in order to pull it off. All that was left to do was to bide his time and hope Rai came looking for him, otherwise Kuri would have to hunt the boy down. Not that he minded that all too terribly, but moving made it easier for him to be discovered.

Tarou fell to the ground for what seemed like the millionth time. He didn’t really know what exactly was going wrong; maybe it was just the fact that he was thinking too much. Not that anybody could think too much, anyways. It was most likely the memories of his past home life and now. Even though he tried to do his best to stay away from it all, everything he thought about sooner or later went back to his mom.

Trying to distract himself, he looked up at the field, his body still lying flat on the ground. He could see a definite figure now, and from what he could see, the boy was just standing there, whichever boy it was. He frowned, confused. That was hardly any way to spar, since he was just standing there and nothing was really happening. Seeing as Tarou had never really sparred before, he couldn’t say much, though. Squinting in an attempt to see what was going on, he had an idea.

Instead of focusing on something like his home life, what if he focused on something completely random? It didn’t quite have to be anything, really. Maybe the mud on the ground, his hands, the grass… anything was fine, really. There was a bug on the ground next to his right hand; a small beetle. It’s back was a dark brown, resembling a cup of coffee with a splash of milk added into it. It had a dull shine to it as all beetles did. Its antennas twitches as if curious of the flesh coloured appendage in front of it, and it moved its hairy legs to get a closer look.

Thoroughly amused with his observation of the beetle he pushed himself up off of the ground and got into position once again, lowering himself closer to the ground. Would the beetle scuttle away, afraid of the large looming figure? Or would the beetle be unable to see and him coming, and not react?
