Miyuki winced, her ears plastered to her skull as she whirled around and gave Amalirahc a look, "Some of us are close by you know."
In otherwords while Wren might not be bothered, Miyuki was.

Amalirahc looked hurt. "I didn't shout that loud, did I?"
River sighed. "Amalirahc, don't forget her hearing is good, too. She's not human, after all!"
"Sorry," the boy mumbled, eyes downcast. He hadn't meant to be that loud, honestly he hadn't, he was just excitable, was all.

Miyuki sighed as she made her way over to Amalirahc. She knew that was just the way her friend was, but there were days she had to wonder...
She patted him on the shoulder.
"It's alright, I know you're just excited."

"Then why do you always get mad at me?" Amalirahc asked her, still hurt. "You get mad and then you say it's all right. If it's all right, why do you get mad?"
"Because you're loud and it hurts?" River suggested, turning her attention back to the box.

"Because in the end I know you don't really mean it," Miyuki replied, "And yes it hurts. Don't forget..."
She poked him in the side of the head.
"My ears are on top of my head, and I can turn them, they're like... like shells, they catch all the sound like the shells can catch all the wind if turned in the right direction."

Amalirahc flinched away from the poke and frowned up at her. "Yeah, well, even if my ears are on the side of my head, and even if I can't turn them and all, I still hear the wind and stuff too," he said in a surly tone. "You're just too sensitive."
"Someone sounds grumpy," Wren spoke up as she joined the children. "Everything all right?"

"I was upset at Amalirahc because he suddenly shouted like that, it hurts my ears," Miyuki explained, "I know he doesn't mean to, but it's hard not to be.... put off."
That was one way of putting it, but there were times she did have trouble understanding Amalirahc to be fair.
"And he's upset that I get put off a lot."

Wren smiled gently at the children and knelt next to them. "You know ... no one is perfect," she said softly. "And I know that you are very good friends. Part of being good friends - best friends - is that you know each other very well, and that you know each other's faults, but that you get along and still like each other anyways. Even friends have fights and disagreements, but the sign of true friendship is that you can forgive each other and keep being friends despite them."
Amalirahc looked at Wren, alarmed. "But we don't fight!" he exclaimed, apparently astonished that Wren would even suggest such a thing. "I would never hit Miyuki! Never ever! No matter what!"

"I... don't think that's the kind of fight she meant," Miyuki pointed out to Amalirahc.
Of course she kind of forgot in a strange way she was somewhat older than Amalirahc (while still being younger).
"But I don't think we really have many of those neither."
Unless one included the billions of times she got annoyed with Amalirahc and he not being able to understand why.

Wren laughed. "Well, at least you don't view it as such. But Miyuki, I think it's also important to remember ... Amalirahc is much younger than you and River. I know he's the tallest of all of you, but he is ... how old are the two of you?" she asked, looking from Amalirahc to River.
"Thirteen," River replied.
"Eight and a half!" Amalirahc exclaimed proudly.
Wren stared at Amalirahc. "You're younger than I thought," she said, her tone amused. "But do you three see what I mean? He's not going to be as mature as you girls."
River giggled. "That's for sure!"

It was hard to imagine that Amalirahc wasn't as old as them, but it was true. Miyuki kind of understood in a way she was probably as 'old' as River.
"I hadn't thought about that," Miyuki murmured.
It was hard to remember since Amalirahc, despite it all was quite smart.

Wren laughed softly. "It's something to keep in mind," she grinned. She sat down and crossed her legs, indian-style. "Now, which toys would you like me to explain first?"
Amalirahc looked at their handfuls of toys, and at the ones still in the box. "Umm ..."

Miyuki pointed to the one set that they had questioned what it was.
"How about the things with the rounded spikes and the bouncy ball?"
That was probably the most confusing out of all of the items found.

Wren grinned and picked up the metal pieces and the ball, and set the metal pieces on the floor of the flet in front of herself.
"Jacks," she explained. "The little metal things are called jacks, the same as the game. You want to hold the ball up - about this high - and drop it, let it bounce once, and catch it. But before you catch it again, you want to try to grab as many jacks as you can, with the same hand you dropped the ball with. Like this."
She dropped the ball, and with a single lightning-fast move, grabbed a handful of the jacks, and caught the ball before it bounced on the flet a second time.
"See?" she grinned, displaying the eight jacks she had gotten. "It helps to train you for speed and accuracy, since if you miss the ball, you have to put all of the jacks you got back on the ground. I haven't played since I was little, but I remember it was a lot of fun."

"That looks hard," Miyuki murmured.
Even if Wren made it look easy, but it was so quickly that it took Miyuki a moment to realize what Wren was doing.
"How long did it take for you to get that good?"
