(lol i say its the luck of the die or well gambling lol i feel like mat (Wheel of time reference))
Rai looked around the best he could. The mist was to thick. He laughed out loud a said. "Ninja of the mist. Hahahaha I get it now!!!" His laughter drowned out any noise he might of heard. His hand stung from the punch. He shook it out feeling the tingles slowly fade away. He tried to continue his search for Kuri. He even picked up a few sticks and then set them back down. He wouldn't want to throw one and have them hit S.S. or the other new student that came today. He smiled and focused around him the best he could. All he could do was keep an eye out four feet in front of him. Even that he felt wasn't enough.

Kuri watched Rai searching for him with a smile of satisfaction. He knew he had chosen his ensemble well for hiding, and he had some talent in it as well, it seemed. As his opponent came closer, Kuri readied himself for another attack, one which he unleashed at his first opportunity. He swung a right mid kick, aimed to slam into Rai's back.

Rai heard something behind him and turned around with just enough time to side step the kick. He steadied his ground and launched an attack of his own. He didn't think much and could barely focus. He knew his punch was weaker then his last but he jumped back a few feet to get away from Kuri. He hoped the punches didn't hurt him to bad. He watch Kuri cautiously. Afraid of what he might do next. He honestly hoped he wouldn't hide back into the mist again. He hated the surprises. Which is what he had gotten everytime Kuri disappeared.

After awhile, Tarou’s fingers started to hurt, and tarou deemed his hand seal good enough; it wasn’t as if he could get it perfect since his fingers were too thick. He really had to think from now on, whether to crack his fingers or not. Maybe he would finally end up not being able to do any hand seals.

He was momentarily distracted by the two students fighting in the clearing. He could barely see them because of the mist, but it seemed as though it was getting somewhat exciting. Even though Tarou was at first hesitant to spar, he felt like he wanted to spar now. He just didn’t want to lose. That meant that he would probably have to train that much harder, so that he could catch up with the other students. He looked down to the booklet, eager to finish the hand seals so that he could get started on push ups and running.

He decided to choose a random one, not looking forward to finding something that looked ‘cool’, or to go in a certain order. Glancing at the Ram hand seal he tried to copy it. He put his right hand into a neat little fist, his thumb poking up. Then getting his left hand he wrapped it around his right, making sure that his index and middle finger were also pointing upwards.

Well, this was quite the bummer. As soon as Tarou had been encouraged to get this over and done with, he had started to fail, once again. He had done two in a row without having to repeat it, and he huffed for getting over excited. He had to proceed with caution from now on, so that maybe it would increase the chance of success. Stretchign his arms over his head until he heard a little crack, he looked at the booklet to examine the hand seal once more.

If he looked closely, he could tell that the hand seal called for his thumb to be facing in front of him. Usually when he made a thumb up with his hand, the thumb pointed to his right. What was up with these hand seals that were almost painful to make? Mumbling incoherently he tried to make the hand seal again, this time making sure that his thumb was facing in front of him. It actually kind of hurt, unfortunately. On the bright side, it would teach him how to deal with … torture, or something.

Tarou was pretty much making it up as h e went, as a means to entertain himself. He didn’t think it was really a bad thing. It helped pass the time.

Well, there was another hand seal done. Even though Tarou failed some of them occasionally, he felt himself starting to get the hang of the whole ordeal. Even when he failed, he sort of understood how to fix it and all. He guessed that this was some kind of wisdom on his part. Huh, he didn’t know that children like him were capable of wisdom. He was half way through the whole booklet now and strangely felt proud of the fact. On one hand, they were just hand seals, some shapes that you made with your hands. There technically was no actual skill involved with what he was doing, and yet he was going through it pretty fast. The two kid sparring didn’t even look like they were close to finishing. But then again, maybe it was normal to be going through hand seals this fast.

Looking down at the booklet his eyes landed on the Bird hand seal, and he looked at it, eager to finish the rest off. The bird hand seal was hard to see, in the way that Tarou couldn’t tell which fingers went where. After some observation, he realized that the thumbs actually touched themselves halfway down its body, and actually pointed towards him. And looking at the four bumps that pointed down, he could only guess that his index and ring fingers on both hands pointed down, but didn’t touch each other at the tips. This hand seal was actually easier for him to make than all the other ones. It had some specificity, even though it was hard to see what was going on.

Well well. It seemed that Tarou was on fricking fire. He didn’t want to seem as if he was a vulgar person, but he couldn’t help but grin triumphantly at the fact that he had done it right. Perhaps harder ones were actually easier to do. He almost started rambling in his mind about how awesome he was, until he realized that if he did, some sort of magical force that people called karma may come back and kick him in the behind. To calm himself down, he opted to flip through the pages absent-mindedly, looking for something that caught his eyes. There were only five more hand seals to complete.

One of the hand seals caught his eye: the monkey. It looked very flat, and a bit hard to understand, but it sort of resembled the dog and rabbit hand seal. It almost looked like the picture was making a flat surface like a table, to put hot tea on. Deciding that that was a bit interesting, he turned his attention to that particular hand seal.

It was easy enough, to be honest. All he had to do was hold out his left hand flatly, and slide his right hand over it, his pinky finger locking between the thumb and index finger so that it could stay still. And it did kind of look cool, although Tarou couldn’t put a finger on why it seemed so.

That was easier than he thought. Tarou had been expecting the monkey hand seal to be way harder, because it had taken him such a long time to get used to the rabbit hand seal. This probably meant that Tarou was getting better at recognizing hand seals, right? He hoped so. Seeing as he was now doing a pretty good job at the ones he thought were easy but usually kicked him in the butt, he decided to try the boar hand seal.

The boar hand seal looked sort of like the snake, which pretty much meant that it looked like what the Jesuits did. However, it was actually upside down, (did that make it anti-Jesuit?) and the fingers were not woven into each other. It was actually kinf of an uncomfortable feeling for his wrists to be drawn up like that, and he struggled to keep his wrists straight. Upon further observation of the booklet, he noticed that his wrists didn’t need to be straight at all. It was actually quite obvious that he didn’t need to, if he had to angle his wrist like that. IT was strange, since all the other hand seals called for completely straight wrists.

Perhaps his wrists didn’t need to be straight at all; maybe the pictures were prone to some inaccuracies, since they were just pictures. Which made him think: Why couldn’t the teacher teach him…? Well, other than the fact that he was busy. Yep. Tarou pushed his whining thoughts aside, deciding to focus on the task at hand.

Now that he had finished his ninth hand seal, he thought that this was a good time to just stretch. His behind was actually falling asleep, and his back and neck were sore. Standing up for a bit he stretched out his back and neck, followed by his arms. He resisted the urge to crack his knuckles in fear of not being able to be a ninja. He looked around, making sure that the sparring was still going on, and then sat back down. He almost considered lying down, but that would probably break his concentration. He was sleepy anyways, so if he laid down, he would most likely fall asleep, no matter how wet the ground was.

He had slept on the forest ground many times in his old home, after all.

Feeling almost lonesome at that thought, he turned his attention back towards the pamphlet. He was now going to have to be an adult, so that his little brother wouldn’t get lonely without his mother and perhaps father. What better place to start than training to be a ninja?

He stared at the rat hand seal. The rat was the first zodiac out of all the possible twelve, and he smiled. He knew the story by heart, because his mother had liked the story herself and often recited it. The point of the hand seal was to get his left hand, and do the same thing that he had done for the ram hand seal. Doing so, he looked at the picture and then his right hand, wanting to get this right. It seemed that the right hand actually grabbed his left index and middle finger, almost as if it was going to fist around it. And then the index finger would sort of stay half curled.

It was kind of surreal how fast this was going. Even though Tarou was happy, he had expected this task to be sort of gruelling. Maybe he would finish the last two without a hitch. It would certainly be pretty awesome if he did, and then he could get started on the push ups and laps. Although, running laps around the two students who were sparring didn’t sound like a very good idea, only because he didn’t want to get knocked down or get in their way. Maybe he would find somewhere else to run laps. But then again, he didn’t quite want to miss this exciting spar. (Tarou was confident that it would get exciting soon enough. Just, not now.)

He decided that he would try to do the tiger hand seal next, since it was pretty similar to the rat hand seal. He had heard that the tiger hand seal was for people with the fire affinity, and hummed. So if somebody was doing this hand seal, he would probably have to watch out. But then again, anybody doing any series of hand seals was probably a free ticket to go on the defence. The tiger hand seal was easy enough; it was just like the ram and rat hand seal, just that he did the same thing for both hands, and wove the spare fingers together.

He hoped that he could finish with this soon.

There was only one more hand seal to do. This fact blew his mind. Well, not quite. He felt a huge sense of accomplishment, and wished that his dad and his younger brother were here to watch him finish this one. He was in the end, a daddy’s boy, he supposed. Well, he would tell them later about what a great job he did. Most students didn’t learn this much all in one go, and this was definitely something he couldn’t learn when he was in Konoha.

The only hand seal left to do was the dragon hand seal. It was surprisingly the only animal that didn’t exist today. Although, because of its superiority in strength and speed, Tarou was somewhat surprised that it wasn’t the first of the zodiacs. Well, the story was most likely just a story, and had no real truth to it. Well, some truth, but probably over exaggerated. Because god didn’t exist.

Looking down at the seal that was stopping him from his undeniable triumph, he mimicked the seal. It was just like the snake hand seal, kind of like how the Jesuits did it. However, this thumb would be sticking out, and so would his pinky. He made sure to arrange it so that one thumb was on top of the other.

He really should’ve seen it coming, really. He didn’t see why he just didn’t see it. Out of his excitement for finally finishing off his hand seal exercise, he had bent his head down to closely look at the booklet. Without noticing, he had also moved his hands down, and it had resulted him slamming his pinky fingers into the ground.

He made no noise upon impact. However, the pain was very similar to smashing a baby toe on to a table leg. His face hit the ground as he sort of curled up, (the best he could when he was sitting cross legged on the ground.) a soft whimper coming out of his mouth. He couldn’t hold back the feeling of frustration building up. He was almost finished…!

Getting up sharply from his place on the ground, he had a childish glare on his face. He pointedly glared at the booklet and sort of slammed his open hand onto it, as if it was the booklet’s fault that he had smashed his fingers. He just didn’t understand how it was even close to fair, that this was just his las---

He stopped rambling in his mind, deciding to calm down. It wasn’t as if the booklet decided that he would hit his pinky fingers. Looking back at the booklet calmly, (he may or may not have wiped small tears gathering at the corner of his eyes)he decided to try again.

Now that Tarou was finished with his hand seal exercise, he felt like he had accomplished something worthwhile. Of course, his pinkies were still throbbing in pain, but he had finished it at last. He could now start on push ups, or jogging. He weighed the decisions: Jogging would help him with his constitution, but Push ups would help him with his strength. What he really wanted to do was work on his speed, but perhaps he could do that later.

Seeing as the two were still sparring quite ‘intensely’, he decided that he would do some push ups, so that he didn’t disturb them. He was sure that he probably wouldn’t be able to do push ups very well; his father had always encouraged him to do it, but he just… couldn’t. He could climb trees just fine, and swing himself on their branches. However, doing push ups were somewhat different, though he didn’t really know how. Well, practice makes perfect right? He thought almost optimistically, hoping that he wouldn’t fall on his face. The ground was unfortunately quite muddy.

He laid down on the ground and then pushed himself up. Leaving his arms and legs to hold him up. He could already feel his muscles twitching; he blamed the hand seal exercise for that.
