"Thanks? What, for meddling? I didn't need your help, I was better off on my own, I thought I made that clear when I left." His voice did not change, it did not dip or rise, it remained the same monotonouse calm that it had been before, but his right eye started to titch a bit as if from annoyance. "I...don't need anyone other than my pokemon." With those words, he took another sip of juice to seem indifferent to the matter at hand.

"Oh. Okay. So next time we find you unconscious with your Pokemon beat tired with a handful bad Ghosts hanging around, we'll remember to just take off and let your tough-guy act take care of the job."

It was Mary-Anne's turn to be annoyed. A frown pressed on her lips as she glared none-too-benevolently at Crenu; whereas Ky diverted his gaze, she let the anger of hers show full-on. Usually, she didn't snap at people like this, but in truth the girl was fed up. The DayCare Woman was about to intervene, but her husband rose from the table with his plate and hushed her with a "let them take care of it" look. They both left to the adjacent room for the time being, most probably staying in earshot but out of vision. "Can you just cut the I'm-gonna-stay-in-seclusion crap? Jeez. Why do you have to be so stubborn? Are you suddenly afraid of connecting to people? Or do you think that you're just too good for other people?" she snapped, getting angrier as she spoke. Damnit, why didn't he have a single detectable emotion on his face? When did he suddenly decide to wrap himself up in a rock of a cocoon?

Ulani, feeling the tension of the environment, floated away somewhere safe, leaving Crenu alone on that side of the table.

As the verbal assult ensued, Crenu just sat there with an almost bored look on his face. When it seemed that she had taken a break from scolding him, he simply gave a half smile, then took another sip of his juice. Setting the glass down, Crenu stood up and walked over to his pokemon, not making a sound the entire time. He knelt down and pet his pokemon, then called them to their pokeballs. Crenu slowly made his way to the kitchen door. It was at this time that he finaly stopped and half looked back, looking down at the ground as he spoke. "Truth is...I'm the one who's not good enough." With that he left the kitchen and out the back door. He wasn't leaving yet, the rest of his clothes were still there after all and he still needed to thank the couple that owned the daycare. He was just stepping out for some air and morning training. In a grassy patch with a few other pokemon running about, Crenu let out his own pokemon and watched them look up at him, a determined look in their eyes.

When Jaeshan awoke the next morning, it took him a few moments to realize where he was. He sat up in bed, looking around with bleary eyes. Sunlight was pouring through his window, looking like it would be a beautiful day. Torchic was still sleeping peacefully on one of the pillows, and Jaeshan smiled at her as he stood up. He opened the chest of drawers to the side of the room, rooting around for some clean clothes. He grabbed a towel as well and headed out into the hallway to go have a shower.

Once he was clean, refreshed and dressed (wearing a much different outfit than before), he returned to his room to find the baby chick Pokemon still snoozing contentedly. He poked her gently a few times to rouse her from her sleep, and she looked up at him, blinking her beady black eyes curiously. Jaeshan didn't know if anyone had really announced his return home to his parents, but his stomach grumbling told him that it was time for breakfast. He scooped up Torchic and carried her downstairs. The smell of cooking food seemed to waft its way from the kitchen, and Jaeshan couldn't help but drool a little at the thought of Marietta's wonderful cooking.

When he stepped into the dining room, the first thing he saw was his father seated at the head of the table, reading a newspaper and sipping his morning coffee. His mother was seated next to him, stirring her tea with a spoon; the metallic clinking against the china was quite the familiar sound. As he pulled up his usual chair to sit down, he was met by his mother's critical gaze, although she quickly turned her head and pretended to be interested in one of the fliers that lie on the table nearby. Jaeshan averted his own gaze, looking down at Torchic, who was perched quietly on his lap. The young Pokemon seemed to sense the tension in the room, and remained perfectly well-behaved even as her master set her on a chair next to him. Jaeshan studied the neatly folded napkin sitting in front of him, and cleared his throat. "Good morning Father, Mother. Did you sleep well?" he asked, trying to keep his tone semi-casual.

Kira of Flames

Hilarious Elocutionist

PostPosted: Sun Jan 20, 2008 8:42 am

Running along Rout 31', Kira continued to chase after Chuck, and the fast little Rattata continued to narrowly dodge her attempts at catching him. Letting out a frustrated cry, she kicked a tree and soon regretted it. Her face scrunched up in pain and she held the foot as a string of curses few out that would make a sailor proud. Plopping down on the ground, she continued to nurse her 'injured' foot.

Chuck, having noticed that Kira wasn't running after him any more, turned back to see what happened. Alarmed at seeing the girl alone and hurt in the middle of the path and unprotected, he quickly bounded over and bared his little teeth at a warning to all pokemon to not come near.

Kira let out a small laugh. "Chuck, it's alright, if a pokemon where to appear, we'd just battle it! It would do us some good to practice together anyways, you'd level up and gain more moves, and we'd bond more together...."

Chuck didn't look too convinced, in fact, he gave Kira what looked like a flat stare that spoke 'Yeah, riiiight'.

Kira could feel a sweatdrop forming and she let out another laugh. "Fine, how about we start up on our OWN journy? Mom can live without me for a while, and I'm 19, I should be old enough to make my own decisions."

When they were finally outside the Cherrygrove limits on the eastern side of town, Kilik took to the small Berry bush and sat down in front of it. "Alright then," he said, glaring at the floating Vibrava and the Lairon that was pawing at the ground, "The two of you are sparring partners. This is more for Bahamut's benefit than yours, Lairon." He pursed his lips and looked over at the beast. It let out a low roar, tossing an angry look up at Bahamut. If he was going to fight, he wanted it to be all about him and nothing more. However, for once, he decided to obey his trainer and go with it. The Lairon nodded one time before pounding off in the grass.

Kilik rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He couldn't afford to fall asleep at the moment. He cracked his knuckles then sighed. "Now, Bahamut. I want you to aim a Giga Drain directly at Lairon!" With excited chatter, the Pokemon flapped it's wings quickly and flew down towards Lairon's head. "Lairon! Protect!" Bracing itself against the ground, Lairon suddenly became encased in a green barrier, which Vibrava bounced off of harmlessly. The insectoid flew up a little higher, bobbing in the air a bit. She shook her head. That kind of hurt, but it didn't deal any damage to her. Her trainer commanded for a Faint Attack! That would be easy.

However, Lairon was one step ahead. Not only would Bahamut's attack deal very little damage to his titanium body, he was also poised for an attack. He felt Vibrava's body clang against his head. He heard Kilik announce for a Headbutt, which he complied completely. With a mighty roar, he bucked his head harshly against Bahamut, sending the small Pokemon flying into a nearby tree. She slammed against it with a decent amount of force, but managed to shrug it off. Being ten levels higher than her opponent, Bahamut didn't need to fear too much. She clicked her teeth together, ready for another attack.

Kilik was standing up now. He couldn't get into commanding his Pokemon by sitting. Clenching his fists tightly, the boy gritted his teeth. Vibrava doesn't know many moves that will deal sufficient damage to Lairon, not that I want him knocked out anyway. He closed his eyes and thought for a moment. I just need to keep them fighting to let them both gain the much needed experience. If I'm ever going to beat Mike... He immediately thought back to their battle outside the Lavaridge City Gym. He lost by a decent margin, all because of that Charizard. Of course, Ludicolo would be the more obvious choice to train right now if it was all about beating that single Charizard. But it wasn't just that.

All of Mike's Pokemon were high level. Kilik was close, he knew that, but he still wasn't...up there. We have the same amount of badges...but most of his are from later Gyms. Mine are all early, low level Gyms. He clenched his fist tighter. He could feel his hand shaking. Mike may have been his best friend, but he was also his greatest rival. "Okay, Vibrava! Let's keep going!" New reserve moved through his veins at breakneck speed.

His mother simply huffed and continued to look away, stirring her tea with a little more force that necessary. Jaeshan sighed, watching as he was offered a cup of coffee by one of the servants. He nodded, and she filled it before heading around to the other side of the table to give Jaeshan's father a refill. The boy gloomily dropped a couple of sugar cubes into the hot liquid, as well as a few drops of milk to add colour. He wasn't really a big coffee drinker, but it gave him something to do while waiting out the awkward silence.

"Actually, I did sleep rather well last night," came his father's voice from behind the newspaper. "Upon receiving news that my only son had returned home safely for the time being, well, one could say that it calmed my nerves." Edward lowered the newspaper, and as Jaeshan looked up at him, he could see a twinkle in his father's normally steely-grey eyes. His mother remained silent, although she'd now folded her arms in her lap and was staring at her teacup like it were a foreign object. Jaeshan's expression brightened upon hearing his father's response, but at the same time he couldn't help but wish his mother's attitude had changed as well. It had been her idea for him to study medicine, and as far as Jaeshan knew, she cared very little for Pokemon and the ideas surrounding them in general.

"That's good to hear, Father," Jaeshan nodded, taking a sip of the coffee. He frowned a bit at the bitterness before adding another sugar cube. "It's good to be home," he went on, looking directly at his mother. "I've missed you guys."

For a moment, it looked as though his mother were choking, and as she looked up at her son, a single tear rolled down her cheek and disappeared into her woolly, pale pink robe. "I've missed you too, Jae," she said softly, reaching out with shaking hands to lift her teacup. "It's good to have you home." Jaeshan felt a gentle nudge coming from the small Pokemon next to him, and Jaeshan looked down to find that Torchic was giving him a knowing look. Nodding, Jaeshan stood up and circled around the table, and he stopped at his mother's side, biting his lower lip. Finally, he bent down and wrapped his arms around her, and he heard her inhale sharply, before exhaling a rather shaky breath, and her slender arms and hands gripped his tightly. "My boy," she whispered into the fabric of his shirt. "I've been so worried." Jaeshan felt tears of his own welling up, and he sighed, just happy to know that his mother cared.

((There.. fixed! ^.^))
Evidently, Jaeshan's mother had come around after all. She did make it perfectly clear that she still wasn't completely comfortable with her son's choice of careers, but her mindset did change significantly when Torchic hopped up onto her lap, and put on the biggest cutie-pie act that Jaeshan had ever seen. Jaeshan then proceeded to show his parents Butterfree and Bagon - Shelgon, actually (Jaeshan was still having a hard time remembering that the adorable little dragon had evolved), and tell them about Mightyena, Nidoking and Victreebel as well. He then showed them his three Kanto badges, which only really aided his case.

"What do you plan to do next?" his father asked, while the three of them were taking an afternoon stroll through the lovely gardens of their expansive backyard. "Will you return to Kanto and earn the other five badges? Or do you plan to stick around here for a while?" His questions were genuinely curious, and even his mother (who carried a very content Torchic in her arms) nodded along, showing interest in her son's future plans.

"I will return to Kanto eventually," Jaeshan said, scratching his chin thoughtfully. "The next gym in line is in Celadon City, and the leader there uses Grass-type Pokemon. I figure that Butterfree will be fine, but I'd like to give Torchic a chance to test her mettle against a gym leader, and being a Fire-type, she'll have a clear advantage, especially after she gains a few more levels." Torchic gave a cheerful chirp, agreeing with her master. Smiling, Jaeshan went on. "I was thinking about exploring a bit of Hoenn first though. Maybe pick up a few badges from my home region, you know?"

His mother nodded. "I would have thought that you wanted to earn your home region's badges first," she said almost absently. "Although I guess when your heart gets a bad case of wanderlust..." she trailed off, smiling up at her son. Jaeshan swore he could see a look of pride blooming in her lovely blue eyes.

"That's pretty much what Professor Birch said too," Jaeshan chuckled, glancing over his shoulder to watch Butterfree land in a patch of beautiful flowers, her antennae quivering happily. "I was also thinking of capturing a few more Pokemon to give my team some more diversity. That's why I left Mightyena, Victreebel and Nidoking with the professor."

"Anything you're looking for specifically?" his father asked, clasping his hands behind his back.

"Not really," Jaeshan replied. "I have a feeling I'll just know when the time comes. It's difficult to explain, really."

He did have to admit that it was quite odd talking to his parents like this, when several months ago, he couldn't have even approached them about anything other than his medical studies. It was very strange, but also very relieving. They walked and talked for quite some time before Jaeshan realized he should be going. After his parents made good and sure that he didn't need anything else (and his mother had also hinted that some of the Pokemon he captured could stay at home with her, which Jaeshan found to be quite heartwarming) and that he was doing all right financially, he once again packed his bag, mostly with fresh, clean laundry and restocked on a few personal needs. As he made his way towards the front gate, however, he found a rather unusual sight in front of him. His parents, as well as several members of the household staff were there to see him off, but most notably was Marietta. She grinned broadly at him as he approached, putting one of her hands in her apron pocket.

"Young Master," she said, giving a slight bow. "Before you leave us once more, we would love to see a demonstration of your skills as a trainer." She was grinning broadly.

Jaeshan turned to look at his mother and father, who both nodded. "Well... okay," he said, not quite sure what to expect next.

"Good!" Marietta beamed, and pulled a pair of Pokeballs from her pocket. "There shall be a battle, and I shall be your opponent!"
PostPosted: Tue Jan 22, 2008 8:52 am

Rather deftly, Marietta enlarged one Pokeball and sent it flying, all the while hanging onto the second with just one hand. "Two Pokemon each! Let's test your skills, Young Master!"

Jaeshan grimaced a little; he hated that title with a fiery, burning passion. He wasn't about to turn down a challenge though, especially not with his parents watching. A loss and a draw with my last two battles, he thought woefully. It's time to pull out a win!

Marietta's first Pokemon was the last one he'd expected it to be - it was small, with a fluffy brown coat, and a creamy-coloured mane around its neck. It waved its bottle-brush tail around excitedly, two long ears twitching back and forth in excitement: it was an Eevee, and apparently a fairly young one at that. Jaeshan looked at the small, cute Pokemon and smiled - the Eevee reminded him of both Kasiya and Ryka, mainly because of Kasiya's Vaporeon, and Ryka's Espeon and Umbreon.

"An Eevee, eh? Cute," he nodded, reaching for the third Pokeball on his belt. "Let's go, Torchic! Let's show them that cute can also be tough!" The fiery little chick appeared in front of him, and she looked over at her opponent with bright eyes. A battle! She chirped excitedly, clawing the grassy ground with her talons. "Focus Energy!" Jaeshan called, feeling his own adrenalin start to pump. Perhaps it was just because his parents were watching, but he really felt like he had something to prove this time around.

Vibrava kept up her assault on Lairon's titanium body for another hour. She fluttered to the ground, panting heavily. The normally hyperactive Pokemon was very tuckered out. She looked up at her opponent, who was not tired at all. In fact, it appeared as if nothing had even happened to him. Lairon growled lowly, staring down at Bahamut. If his opponent was unwilling to go on, it was time for the finishing blow. Why wasn't Kilik commanding him? Even if this was just a training exercise, surely he was still supposed to win?

However, Kilik merely stood by, thinking. His arms were crossed over his chest and he had his eyes closed. He mumbled something to himself then nodded. "Okay, Lairon. You're done," the boy unclipped the Great Ball from his belt and recalled his beast. Clipping it back, he turned his attention to his tired Pokemon. "Bahamut, you're doing great. I don't have any Pokemon that you'd have a significant advantage against, though." Bahamut fluttered over and perched herself on his shoulder. She suddenly felt as if she had belonged to him all along. Though she pined for Dante, the Vibrava knew that Kilik was her owner now. She chattered happily, yet it still sounded strained.

"We're not far from the Pokemon Center," he explained, "But I think a few Potions oughta work, right?" Vibrava nodded. That sounded good. A nice spritz of a Potion would get her back on track. Kilik laughed, lifting a hand to scratch under his Pokemon's chin. "Good. After we get you that Potion, we'll head on to bed at the Center, huh?" Normally, he was against buying Potions if he could just use the Center, but he was certain Nurse Joy was probably enjoying a good night's sleep.

Entering the city limits, Kilik could see the blue roof of the PokeMart quite easily beneath the halo of the street lamps. Scratching his nose, Kilik picked up a bit into a light run. He could feel Bahamut's tiny feet digging into his shoulder. He skidded to a halt in front of the door and stepped forward, enjoying the cool rush of the air conditioner as the door slid right open to his whim. The clerk waved the boy inside. "Come, come!" he laughed with a wheeze, "It's quite late. What brings you here at such an hour?"
PostPosted: Tue Jan 22, 2008 9:34 am

Kilik scratched the back of his head. Just staring at the man made him feel as if he was going to get a long history lesson. "I've been up training my Vibrava. She's quite close to evolving, I think." He smiled at the old man. Bahamut fluttered up into the air above Kilik then latched onto his head, nibbling on a lock of his hair. She wasn't actually going to eat it; she just needed something to chew on that wouldn't get ruined, like his clothes would have.

"She seems quite energetic," the old man wheezed, "Now! What can I do you for?" He placed his hands on the table. They were like any other old man's hands - wrinkled, veins everywhere, and liverspots. He had very little hair on his bald head. Most of it seemed to be in his nose and ears. However, he did have a glorious beard that trailed down to the middle of his chest.

Kilik placed a hand on his chin and looked around the shelf behind the man. "Uhm...get me..." he suddenly felt like buying more than what he came here for. The TMs all looked appealing, but he knew that most of his Pokemon knew their needed moves. Resisting the temptation, Kilik pulled out his wallet and 1000 dollars, "Just a Potion and a Super Potion, please." Turning around, the man looked at the shelf behind him and wheezed again.

He lifted up his hands, wrapping his long fingers around Kilik's selected items and brought them down. "Here you are, my boy. That'll be exactly 1000..." he took Kilik's money and placed it in the register, smiling at him.

The boy nodded and Vibrava did as well, fluttering back down to Kilik's shoulder. Kilik bid the old man farewell, took his Potions and exited the mart. When he was outside, he smiled. "Alright, Bahamut...here you go." He took the Super Potion and sprayed it a few times up and down the length of Vibrava's body. The Pokemon shivered, lifting up her wings as if to tell Kilik to get under there. When the spraying stopped, she jumped up into the air and flew in circles, chattering happily. It felt so good to be so alive again. "Cool it, Bahamut. Return." He lifted up the Pokeball and recalled his energetic partner, clipping the sphere back to his belt. As he walked back to the Pokemon Center, he stashed his Potion into his bag and threw away the empty Super Potion bottle.

Before Torchic could even begin to focus her concentration, a call for a Quick Attack rang across the battlefield, and a brown blur raced through the grass, slamming its body into Torchic and managing to return to its starting position in only a matter of split seconds. Torchic let out a frightened chirp, glaring at the Eevee across from her as her adrenalin began to pound through every vein inside of her. Her small, orange body began to glow brightly, and she let out another chirp, this one sounding a lot more determined than the last. She wouldn't let that little brown furball show her up!

"Quick Attack!" Marietta called again, thrusting her hand forward. She hardly looked like the same woman now that she was engaged in battle, and Jaeshan found it odd that no one had ever told him she was a trainer before. Maybe they'd thought she'd be a bad influence on him?

Torchic was prepared this time though, even as the Eevee streaked towards her at a breakneck pace. Torchic got low to the ground and jumped up, leaping over the head of the charging Eevee and avoiding the speedy attack with relative ease. "Great work!" Jaeshan cheered, and pointed at the Eevee. "Now attack with Ember!" Torchic pivoted on one clawed foot, finding her target well within range. The bewildered Eevee never saw the three small fireballs that were targeted at its back, and it let out a surprised, pained cry as all three struck with great accuracy.

"Alright guys, we lost. More importantly, I lost. I fell and was unable to continue giving commands to you Larvitar. Poliwag, Ariados, you fought hard, but not hard enough. Larvitar, I never got a chance to bring you back but you were at your limit, don't kid yourself either. If I hadn't gotten hit, you would have reached your limit mere moments after I called back these two, and the enemy would have won anyway. We are here through the mercy of others and their meddling, but we were not strong enough to take care of our selves. To live weak like this, it would have been better to let them finish us off." He did not smile, he did not frown. His eyes were piercing and his tone was rough as he spoke. "But I am not out of the blame. Had I been a stronger commander, perhaps I would have used you guys better, used your attacks more efficiently and wisely. I too am to weak, and this is not acceptable. We have to get stronger! WE ARE NOT WEAKLINGS!" His pokemon all cried in unison, unanimous they were in their drive to be stronger. "Enough! We waste time, it's time to work! Poliwag, Ice Beam! Ariados, Poison Sting now! Larvitar, hang back for a moment, we'll start in a sec."

Marietta took a surprised step back, shocked at Torchic's quick reaction time. "She's not bad," the robust woman laughed, placing her hands on her hips. "But that's not all we've got! Go Eevee, Tackle attack!"

The Eevee gave a cry and charged forward, ramming its shoulder into Torchic's abdomen. The small Fire-type let out a cry, wheezing from the strike. "Fight back with Scratch!" Jaeshan shouted. "You can do it, girl!"

Before the Eevee could retreat again, Torchic swung her clawed foot around, catching her opponent in the shoulder that had just struck her. Both Pokemon backed away from each other, panting a bit. Even though they were young, neither of them were close to being finished yet, and they stared each other down eagerly as they awaited their next orders from their respective trainers.
