does anyone have any suggestions for painting marines? I try to paint the armor but it dosn't look... gritty enough.

You can make the armour look damaged some what.

Indeed, GW´s website has a good instructions of how to paint battle damages
for the marines. 3nodding

I'm just talking about painting the armor at all. I LOVE painting orks and guard, those are easy for me and the models look very grim and gritty (that's the only way I can describe it)

but when it comes to marines they come out looking blotchy and stupid. What's anyone elses method for painting their marines?

Ooooooo. surprised

I just use basic painting trick, making sure that the models armour doesn´t
have too thick layer of paint on them. 3nodding
And black basecoat, I don´t care what others people say, but using white
as a basecoat makes your marines look like [piip]. >:E
Just like how I painted my Razel:

I just paint it without inks or layerings it looks so natural. eek
Most people use alot of layers to get it look right, but just one paint layer with basecoat works fine as it is.
Using ink gives it a nice detail aswell. 3nodding

yeah, i'm usually OK with ink. the chest plates (the eagles to be specific) I can pain really well, I just use dwarf bronze and then heavily ink it with Flesh wash. Makes it look great.

Oh they are quite nasty bearded buggers,
having "True Grit" special rule on some units, might be wrong on that one,
if figthing Dark Angels or Alpha Legion marines, they always hits on 3+
in close combat and Long Fangs, even thougth don´t get as much marines as
normal devastator squads, but everyone in the Long Fang squad can target
different units. surprised
Not the mention having a Venerable Dreadnought as an option for a armies commander, filling 1 HQ choice in the FOC. sweatdrop

Great link, but I like my Marines to look all shiny and nice in their purple, gold, and a bit of white armor.

So I bought a bunch of marines from a friend with the intent of converting a CSM army, but after I saw the White Dwarf articles with the blood angels list I decided I wanted to make blood angels too. So to make both I came up with the idea for a sub chapter that had half of the companies rallied around one of the captains and turned to chaos. My big question is what would happen to a Space marine chapter that had only part of its forces turn to Chaos? If the rest of the legion was still loyal to the Emperor would they still be accepted by the rest of the Space marines as being loyal to the emperor? Would Inquisitors still call for the aid or answer the aid of this chapter? What else would be peculiar about the chapter? I appreciate any fluff help anyone has. I am aware that half of the Dark Angels turned during the heresy but that was a different time and case, so would this still be the same or would it be different?

Probably get rid of them all for a faulty Gene seed.

However, this angle has been touched upon before, in the Blood Ravens. Some hypothesise that they are a splinter Thousand Sons chapter/successor, being they share a similar colour scheme and have a high proportion of librarians/sorcerers.

Don't forget the Dark Angels, who fully half the legion turned to Chaos. "The Fallen" are now being hunted by the DA, and to my knowledge they don't get on with Inquisitors too much.

So it's possible.
I guess.

Other loyalists either trusts or distrurts the chapter,
it depends on how well they can keep the lit on the bottle of secrets,
in a sameway as the Dark Angels and Chapter Unforgivens.

Dark Angels keeps long distance from anyone who has Inquisitorial authority,
simply because if they would know the dark sin the DA´s hold,
they would all be doomed.
Because of this, very few individuals in the chapter knows this secret,
only those who have been accepted to the Inner Circle knows this secret.

Even though Blood Angels would never turn to Chaos for many reasons, I can see what you're asking, and there have been times where the matter has been looked into. What it all comes down to really is the situation, and what the a Space Marine Chapter Master, or Inquisition would decide. The Inquisition would simply destory all traces of the remaining loyalist part of the chapter. Quick, easy, and no risk of anymore heretics. Then there is always the fighting that would ensue between the heretics and loyalists. If there happens to be any survivors left over, and depending on the number, they may be intigrated into another part of the chapter, or if there are still enough will probably sent out to hunt down all the remaining heretics of that Chapter as punishment. Whatever Lord Dante may decide would revolve around the fact that the Blood Angels are a dying Chapter, and Lord Dante has ruled over Baal and the Blood Angels for more than a thousand years, giving him great experience and knowledge blah, blah blah. Anywho, basically you'll be creating a Blood Angels verison of the Dark Angels, and you'll have a Khornate Blood Angels Heretics that are going to be hunted down. Sounds like fun.
