Tails waved at Riolu, a mischievous, finger wagging wave. "Hi, Riolu. We're gonna teach Tristen today. Go easy, alright?~"

Tails waved at Riolu, a mischievous, finger wagging wave. "Hi, Riolu. We're gonna teach Tristen today. Go easy, alright?~"

"Ra la!" Riolu replied to Tails with wave of its own.

"Alright, Tristen." I then said as I walked off across the room. "Riolu will be your target for the time being. Of course, in a Pokemon battle, you use the Pokemon with you do battle against the opponent." I said. "How about you get your Natu at the ready. We're just going to take this a step at a time, alright? We're not going to get into anything serious right at the moment, but just get you into the swing of things."

"Okay." Tristen said.

"Now of course, the idea is for your Pokemon to be the last one standing. You're not out to kill, only to K.O. To do that, of course, you have your Pokemon use whatever attacks it has at its disposal. Ok, Riolu, I want you to take this one for me. We're just here to teach someone, alright?"

"Ra la."

"Alright, Tristen. How about have your Natu attack Riolu." I told him.

"Ok um. Attack Riolu, Natu!"

"With what, Tristen."

"Um. How about. Uh. Try your Night Shade." Tristen said.

"Natu!" The Natu fluttered up and unleashed its Night Shade upon Riolu. Riolu winced, but it was only a little flinch. All in all, Riolu was generally unphased by it."

"Ok, Tristen, you need to be quicker on the draw when it comes to attacks. Know what you're going to pull. Remember, in the heat of things, your Pokemon are counting on you. Remember what I said."

"Your Pokemon depends on you as you depend on them." Tristen quoted.

"Good." I said. "Alright, sit tight, still, Riolu. One more time, Tristen. Have Natu attack Riolu."

"Ok. Natu! Peck!"

The Natu fluttered forth, quick as it can at that and went right at Riolu, pecking him a bit before backing off.

"Good."

Tails nodded. These were the fundamentals. At this stage, there was no battle strategy involved. There was only the hope that your Pokemon could outlast the opponent's.

"You okay, Riolu?" he asked.

"Ra la." Riolu was perfectly fine, actually. It was going to take a lot more than that to get the better of him, considering he was hard at it with his training too.

"Alright, now, again, Tristen."

"Natu! Use Peck!"

The Natu fluttered off once again to attack Riolu. Time for a bit of a curve ball. "Riolu, move!"

The Riolu hopped out of the way, averting the attack.

"Huh?"

"What are you waiting on, come on Tristen."

Something occurred to Tristen. Lesson number 2, perhaps. "Natu! Night Shade!"

"Natu natu!" The Natu unleashed its attack towards Riolu.

"Riolu! Move again!"

The Riolu dodged Natu's attack once more, rather easily at that. "Riolu! Force Palm!"

The Riolu rushed for the Natu, quick as can be and smashed a aura-enfused palm right into the bird. "NATU!"

It was probably a fortunate thing that Natu was highly resistant to such a move. Even so. That REALLY hurt. The bird hit the ground, close towards Tristen's feet.

"Natu! Are you okay!?"

"Na...tu..."

It was dazed. To it, it felt like a truck hit it.

"Of course, as I demonstrated, its not always attacks. You got to know when to go into your attacks. Time and place for everything." I said to him. "There's a time to attack, and then a time to go on the defensive. When you had Natu attack, I had Riolu get out of the way. And when you left Natu vulnerable when it used Night Shade, I had Riolu go in for a strike of its own. The more you practice with this, the more you'll learn how to go about a battle."

"Oh..."

"Is Natu alright?" I asked.

He righted Natu up on the floor, though Natu looked a bit uneasy to say the least. It was to be expected probably. Taking a hit from a trained Pokemon. While Riolu isn't the most trained in my party, heck, far from it, he still has came a long way from when I got him.

Tails sat beside Tristen on his haunches, watching the Natu come back to its senses. "You have to be the eyes for your Pokemon. Pokemon are quick, but wild Pokemon sometimes get tunnel vision. Inexperienced Pokemon, too. If you tell them something's up, they're gonna react. Unless it's a Slowpoke," he explained.

He glanced up to Blizz. "Hey, do you think he can try using me in place of a Pokemon? I think Natu would learn, too."

Another eyebrow raise moment, though I still have to remember. Tails is mostly Pokemon for the most part. "I...suppose...though I don't know how this will work out."

Though less Pokemon than he used to be, he was very much mostly Pokemon. He took his place before Tristen, his tails straight in the air. His stance felt a little less natural to him -- he wasn't so limber. This wouldn't bother him in pretend combat though. "Ready!" he said, "And don't worry about going easy on me, Riolu." Like all Vulpix eager for battle, he shook his rear.

"........uh."

"What is it Tristen." I asked.

"I don't know what all Tails knows." He said. "Other than a bunch of Fire attacks I guess. Um." This was going to be severe guesswork on Tristen's part. "Tails, do you know uh." He was trying to think on all fire attacks that he knew of. "Ember?"

With a nod, Tails demonstrated with a quick fireball spittle the size of a golf ball, aimed at Riolu's feet. He was not sure how seasoned Riolu was, so he started small.

Well, he was seasoned enough to step back. He wasn't up for getting burned in any way. "Ra la."

"Come on, Tristen, you have to do a bit more than that."

"Um." he remembered something. Earlier today. When he was being taught Chi manipulation. "Tails. Use your Energy Ball."

"Now we're talking..." I said.

On the tip of Tail's leftmost tail formed a pale green ball of energy. He let it grow to the size of a tennis ball, then flicked it at Riolu. Though it seemed to have been flying straight, it curved to better track to Riolu's tail.

"Riolu! Get in there!" I shouted.

Riolu rushed straight forward towards Tails to avert the energy ball attack, rather quickly at that. "Sky Uppercut!"

A move Tristen hasn't heard of yet, though it didn't sound good. "Ud aaa T-t-t-TAILS look out!"

Tails' instincts were stronger than those of most wild Pokemon, but he waited. Waited until Tristen finally told him there was an attack coming. It almost came an instant too late, and he leaped to his right with a Quick Attack maneuver just as Riolu's arm flowed into his uppercut, and he rolled once to catch himself. It was way too close a call.

"Whew. If I lose a tooth, I'm gonna sit on you, Tristen."

Tristen gave a sigh of relief. Though that said, he didn't want to be sat on. He's got to be quicker on the uptake though, he though. Not let sudden things like that panic him. "Uh, Tails, use Ember again!" he shouted.

This ember he spat was the size of a softball, and he aimed it at Riolu's thigh this time. It was faster, even, than the last two attacks.
