Amalirahc had already knelt by the item, which was a small chest. It was cubic in shape, about as long, tall and wide as his forearm. It was old, weathered by years of sun and rain and visits from birds.
"It's kind of gross," Amalirahc frowned, squatting next to the chest and glaring at the mess of bird excrement. "But there must be something inside ..."
"Well, duh!" River laughed. She budged Amalirahc out of the way and without hesitating she opened the latch on the chest and opened it wide. Thankfully, since they'd been looking for adventure, her grandparents hadn't made her wear a dress today. She wiped her hands on her pants and leaned forward to peer inside.
Amalirahc scooted in closer and peered at the contents of the box.
"What is all this stuff?" he asked, confused.

"Huh?"
Miyuki peered between her friends to look into the box, wondering what had confused them so. She reached forward to pick one of the objects up.

There were an assortment of objects in the chest - some square boards that were painted in patterns, stones of different colours, carved items, cards, and more.
"It looks like toys," River mused. She peered at the item in Miyuki's hand. "A spin top?" She reached in and pulled out a small pouch. She opened it up and peered inside, then dumped its contents into her palm. "More coloured stones ... but these ones feel different."
They were small, perfectly round, and were made of glass of various colours and designs. Marbles, for those who knew what those were.

"I don't think those are stones," Miyuki murmured picking one up and studying it in the light.
It was very shiny but she noticed some of them were kind of see through-ish. While some stones were, they weren't that smooth.
"It's too clear to be a stone," she murmured.

River copied Miyuki's actions and held one of the 'stones' up to the light as well. She squinted at it. "I don't know ..."
"Hey, look!" Amalirahc beamed, pulling out the deck of cards. "Kaito showed us how to use these!"
He spread the cards out on the floor of the flet. Their design was different from the ones Kaito had had, but the numbers were the same, so he could recognize what they were supposed to be.

"A deck of cards," Miyuki blinked in surprised, "Does this mean Wren has other people here sometimes?"
She didn't know any games that required only one person, and she couldn't imagine it being any fun to play alone.

"I don't know," Amalirahc mused, "but this looks like kid stuff, now grown-up stuff."
"And from the look of the chest," River added, holding up her slightly dirty hands, "I don't think it's been touched in a really long time." She looked thoughtful. "Think she even comes here herself much anymore?"
Amalirahc shrugged. "I dunno."

"Well... maybe not up here, but still comes here," Miyuki offered, "We could always ask."
She was curious, some of these toys looked like something she would play with others.
"Besides, I want to know what the shiny round things are."

"I want to know what all of these things are," River giggled, rummaging through the chest again. "I've never seen these things before!"
She pulled out another pouch, this one filled with little metal objects covered in rounded spikes. "These almost look more like weapons," she said, confused.

"They aren't pointy enough to be weapons," Miyuki picked one up, "There's this bouncy small thing in here too. It kind of reminds me of a ball."
She played with balls before, but it wasn't something she ever wanted to own, but she never played with a bouncy ball.

Amalirahc reached in and picked up the ball that Miyuki was talking about.
"It's too small to be very good for catching," he said, confused. "What good is a ball this small?"
He dropped it on the wooden flet, and it bounced almost to the height from which he'd dropped it. "You're right, it is bouncy," he grinned at Miyuki. "That could be fun for a bit, I guess, but I think it would get really tiring, running after it."
"I think it goes with the pointy things," River suggested. "That's what it was with anyways."
"I think Miyuki's right," Amalirahc frowned. "We should ask Wren what all these things are."

"Why don't we each carry a some of it down so we don't have to carry the box," Miyuki suggested.
She looked at the box and wrinkled her nose, it should have been covered she supposed.
"I don't think we'd want to do that."

"There's an awful lot of it," River said doubtfully, fully agreeing that she didn't want to carry the box, even if she had opened it. "Why don't we just ask Wren to come up here? Or we could show her the things one at a time over the side and she can tell us or something."
"We'd have to ask her to come up here," Amalirahc decided. "If we just ask her what things are, then we won't know how to use them, and she can't tell us how to use them from down there."

"Well then, let's get her," Miyuki replied as she turned to head back the way they came, "The sooner we know, the sooner we know if we can play with this stuff."
She really couldn't imagine how one would play with some of the items there.

Ignoring the fact that Miyuki was going around the flets towards the ladder, Amalirahc turned and leaned over the edge and hollered, "Hey Wren! Can you show us what this stuff is? We've never seen most of it before!"
"Amalirahc!" River scolded him. "You don't just shout like that!"
Amalirahc looked at her, confused. "Why not?"
"It's rude," she told hi in a matter-of-fact tone of voice.
Amalirahc looked over the edge again, and Wren was already on her way to the ladder. "She doesn't look bothered," he shrugged.
