Strideo: Yeah. Until you're 16, you can't work anywhere that involves handling money (and loads of other jobs have health and safety regulations that stuipulate 16 as the minimum age, so it's almost impossible to get a job any younger than that). The minimum wage is something like £3.50 an hour until you're 18, when it goes up, then up again at 21. So even if you're doing exactly the same work, your employers don't have to pay you the same amount as someone older. So much for non-discrimination...

Gem: Don't worry about ruining my day! I'm here to chat if you need me, okay? Even if you just need someone to rant at.

Really? Wow. No rules like that here, but you have to have a certain amount of break time per number of hours worked, if that makes sense. I think the minimum is half an hour for a 9-5 job. But I worked 9am-9pm with only 4 minutes break xd

let's put it this way; it involves a lot of girl drama that could be solved if some of the people involved got their heads out of their asses. plus i hate projects!

Ahhh. We've had a few events like that recently. Particularly involving one girl who's now entirely ruined a friend's birthday by protesting against every single aspect of her party, making her cry, then having the face to turn up at the party and insist we change the restaurant we'd booked, because she wanted to go for pizza. Urgh -fuming-

Where are we talking about? US or UK? 'Cause I don't know about the US age limits on things (apart from drinking being higher than ours), but it's never been lower than 16 over here.

What? Are you saying that 16 year olds can vote in political elections in the UK?

Theoretically, no. The voting age is 18 for us. Saying that... there are a few groups where adults who have no interest in voting vote on behalf of those who are underage. Frankly, though, we really ought to have more of a political education, seeing as most of us turn 18 having no clue about our own political system and so we're reluctant to vote without the ability to make an informed decision.

Basically I was saying that they can more easily pay minors and young people a lower minimum wage because they either can't vote (the under 18 crowd) or they are less politically active (late teens to early 20's). Being less politically active means that passing laws to the disadvantage of younger people is easier for politicians who don't have to worry about angry voters voting them out of office.

Of course I'm sure the justification for a lower minimum wage for younger workers is that teens working summer jobs and whatnot aren't likely doing so to support a family or whatever. But on the other hand it sounds kind of exploitative and it's kind of like saying your time and effort isn't worth as much as an older person. confused

I agree with you about people needing to educate themselves on the issues before voting too. 3nodding
