See that's along the lines of what I've just been repeating to myself. Except I'm saying Holy Hell instead. I think the math department decided that every student who had to take math just needed to cry. They are completely sold out of math books and they are brand new ones. So I have about a snowballs chance in hell getting a book for under $160. My disadvantage though is the campus that I have to go to in order to get the book and attend class is about a half hour away. Yayy wasted gas money and EPass money. Because didn't you know the stereotype's changed from 'poor college student' to 'college student need to hook in order to pay for books'? -.-

California gives very little money to schools, so the districts can only afford to buy new books every decade or so, and they stagger it. By the time I hit high school, my district was just beginning to replace textbooks, though not very quickly. The math books were always awful, falling apart in every way possible.
I agree with Lone, you should look into buying it secondhand, Summer. My university has a noticeboard for used books and the like. I mean, you pay a good deal for a book, you use it for a semester, then what? Most people would try to sell it, so they can buy their next set of textbooks.
And you'd be surprised. Not everyone realizes that buying books off of other students is an option.

Schools where I was replaced them every 5 years or so, and if you brought them back at the end of the year in a bad shape, they'd just make you pay for them again, so everyone took extra care of their books.
And I think it's stupid tht the goverment gives little money to school D< That should be their 2nd priority after healthcare D< [/canadian]

They threatened to make us pay, too, but there really wasn't much they could do. A little scrape here and there isn't bad, but go through enough semesters and it adds up. Eventually it becomes too difficult to tell who caused what. They did have the boxes for you to write your name and the quality of the book, but the people who beat up their textbooks obviously weren't the responsible types.
God knows I accidentally ripped a page or two, and kept it quiet.
I know, I know. American government is awful with budgeting and funding. Instead of buying us new books or giving us money to tear down our sixty year old asbestos-ridden classrooms, they decide to focus a good chunk of change towards building a new 49ers stadium.
THAT was a ridiculous argument. The San Francisco 49ers wanted to relocate their home stadium to my hometown, and people have been arguing about it for years. People are more passionate about the stadium than they were about Prop 8 or healthcare. Forget actual social issues, they just want to be able to go to Great America AND see a football game, all in the same place. D<

Here the teacher would inspect the book before giving it to you, write in what condition it was and gave it to you and would inspect it again at the end of the semester. I never had to pay for anything, but I have a couple of friend who had too.
And god, people can be so stupid silly sometimes -_-'. I dont even have words for that -_-'

I believe Puerto Rico can beat your stupidity >.> I mean who the ******** closes down an University's bookstore!? US! THAT'S WHO! D< God! I had to go into town searching for bookstores and even then my damn Chemistry book cost me $150! Plus the other 2, it was a wonderful $320 D< Oh yeah, and I had to get my lab coat which was another $30.
Yeah, Lone we have a book fair, but it's THIS week, and with the hurricane I'm sure it's now next week. But my professors went all asses on me and went all 'I WANT IT FOR TOMORROW >D I DON'T CARE HOW AND I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH. JUST. GET. IT.' Especially Chemistry who already assigned homework and chapters. So... no book fair for me .x. Online would've taken to long so... expensive bookstores were the ones for me. And after the fourth cause the first three didn't even have the books.
My High School barely used their books, but they were really horribly kept. It didn't matter much because teachers mostly used presentations and stuff//>.>EndofRantCauseIneededtooevenifitwaslate

Ugh, textbook pain. I haven't gotten mine yet (although I better get my a** on that ASAP). Last year they wanted $460 for my Chem. book. I rage screamed at the online store. Lol, but someone must have heard me because I checked back later and the price was lower. But no WAY was I gonna buy a book for that much unless the pages were solid gold. Just...grah DX

HOW MUCH MONO? O--0 That's just ******** insane O-o. I'd never would have bough that o-o. I would have dropped the class before! D<
I'm pretty lucky ever since I moved to Monteal for Ze Masters. I don't have any textbooks anymore. It's just personal notes from the proffessor and s**t. I mean, I still have to pay for them, but they rarely get over 30$ each.
Also, my class schedule changed for a reason I dont understnad and now I only have classes on Tueday and Wednesday >D
