Ahh, that's who got sick. D: That's no good. What did she get sick with? It's a genetic thing that apparently kicked in with all the red meat from Germany. Celiac Sprue; if I remember correctly. She stopped absorbing nutrients and her small intestine started shutting down.

I really shouldn't lash out like that.

Luckily, it just involved a few shots from a frighteningly large needle. German doctors couldn't treat her legally; but they gave her something so she wouldn't feel as bad until we could get back. The interesting thing is, America is to blame for this, and the country did this before Kaz was even born. Anyone care to take a guess?

I'm going to guess that they caught this when doing a pre-natal test. The one where they take a bit of the amniotic fluid for DNA testing to check for diseases. If it was treatable they might not have done anything, if it wasn't, I'm going to bet they didn't bother telling her parents.

Kazumi's grandmother lived in Hiroshima, Japan during WW2. America dropped a nuke there, causing many deaths and genetic disorders. Two generations later, the genetic disorder is still alive. Everything else is history.

Hmm, Ota, to be mature, if you and Kaz ever have kids, I'd get their DNA tested, if I was in your position. Not after birth, but during pregnancy, just to be sure. I mean, if something does come up, it'll be good to know.
