Jaeshan watched calmly as the Hariyama made short work of Crenu's Poliwhirl and he grimaced a bit. The Pokemon was definitely a hard hitter, but it didn't seem to have the speed or reaction time necessary to back it up completely. Jaeshan didn't need his PokeDex when Crenu replaced Poliwhirl with a tough-looking Hitmonlee. Fighting versus Fighting, the tall blonde thought with a slight nod. Not a bad match up. When the Hitmonlee ignored Crenu's first order Jaeshan winced a bit. He was no stranger to a Pokemon ignoring commands, namely back when he first started, and Mightyena was still just a pup - the canine never listened to him and ended up getting himself seriously hurt several times before he realized that listening to his trainer wasn't such a bad thing after all. And then there was Combusken, who to this day was still refusing to dodge attacks and would rather take a damaging hit than avoid it completely, especially if it meant that she could counterattack in the process. I really hope she stops doing that before she really gets hurt... Jaeshan thought, now watching as the Hariyama advanced on Hitmonlee with a series of Arm Thrusts.

He had to admit that watching this battle was riling him up for his own match against Brawly, and Jaeshan felt Combusken squirming up on his shoulders in excitement as well. Finally he knelt down to put her on the ground and the two moved away from the battle, though still within earshot of several of the spectators so they had a running commentary of what was happening. Jaeshan wasn't even sure if Brawly would be up to battling him right away, especially after having just faced Crenu, but he was already formulating a strategy in his mind. "Combusken's speed will probably be an asset against the lumbering Hariyama, but her Fire-type attacks will be all but useless, unless, of course, her flames manage to burn him, but there's no sense in counting on 'what if' scenarios..." he muttered to himself. Combusken looked up at her trainer with an amused smirk - she always found it funny when humans talked to themselves like that. Jaeshan also intended to use Shelgon in the match, knowing well that her strong defensive capabilities would be incredibly useful in the match as well. He also wanted to use Metang, but he wasn't so sure how that would work. Metang's typing made him neither weak nor strong to Fighting-type attacks, but the fact that he could use the Psychic-type move Confusion was something worth considering. Then again if something went wrong he always had Butterfree and Nidoking for backup, though he did want to give the newer Pokemon on his roster a chance at a gym match. He looked back over at the area in which Crenu and Brawly were battling, and he grinned. "Can't wait for my turn," he murmured.

"Vital Throw...interesting. Hitmonlee, you've got to move around. He's not fast enough to catch you, but he looks like he can counter well. Don't listen if you don't want to, but you're gonna take hits like that last one if you don't. Use Meditate Lee, lets see if we can lure him into attacking. I want to see what he'll come out with." Hitmonlee didn't like it, but for the moment he agreed to listen to Crenu. Hitmonlee took a similar stance as before, one leg up as he closed his eyes to focus his thoughts, stimulating his muscles to increase his power.

"Hanging back this turn, what happened to the head on paddling I saw the last round? Let's put the pressure on 'em Hariyama, use another Arm Thrust and push 'em back!" Hariyama rushed forward, using his signature move on Hitmonlee for the second time. Arms pumping back and forth as he pushed forward, Hariyama intended on crushing the Hitmonlee into the sand until there was nothing left. He was Brawly's last pokemon and he knew it.

"Move it Lee!" Hitmonlee Finished pumping himself up and opened his eyes, only to see the massive Arm Thrust pokemon coming at him with full power, one crushign blow after another. Hitmonlee did his best to duck and weave through the multiple hits of Haryama's attacks, but he had reacted to late. Though he dodged the first few swipes, hitmonlee felt one heavy palm across his body, and then another followed by a third and fourth. The final was a thrust with authority that sent Hitmonlee toppling over himself and sending sand in all directions. Cheers came from the Dewford fans as they saw Brawly's mighty Hariyama handle the challenger that had been on fire up until now. Hitmonlee got up slowly, fists clenched tightly and trembling. What the hell, what was that!? Listening to Crenu just left him open for a hard hit. Enough of this, some help he was. He glanced back at Crenu with a dirty look, regretting his decision to go along with him before. "Heh heh, what's with those eyes punk. It went exactly as I planned it. Taking that hit served two purposes, one you'll see and the other was for turning on me in the first place. Don't forget your place again and I'll forgive you. Now pay attention to the fight, you'll like the next one."

"You're Hitmonlee's tougher than I thought. Hariyama, go for a crushing blow with Brick Break!" Hariyama wasn't about to let them gain a chance to recover from the last attack. Immediately he charged forward with his immense hand raised high above his head, glowing with power. The enormous pokemon got within range and brought his arm down with bone shattering force to bury Hitmonlee once and for all.

"Don't move Hitmonlee. Take that hit, and answer back with Revenge!" Hitmonlee didn't have time to glance back at Crenu, and instead went forward. So it was goign to be that move again, that sacrificial move that would damage him but crush his opponent at the same time. It was careless and dangerous, but that was what he liked about it. Not wanting to give Crenu any credit, Hitmonlee convinced himself that he was going to use that move anyway. The muscles in his legs stretched themselves like a rubber band and shot him forward, his lead leg cocked back and ready while his body went out in front with a strange aura. Hariyama's massive attack met Hitmonlee's body head on, the crushing force stopping the pokemon in mid air and slamming him to the ground, but much to both his and Brawly's surprise Hitmonlee did not appear to falter. Instead the aura around him appeared to become agitated and gathered at his chest the moment Hariyama's attack landed, and as Hitmonlee his the sand the energy gathered from the attack raced into Hitmonlee's cocked back leg. His leg fired out from behind him like a gunshot, striking Hariyama square in the head and knocking the large pokemon right off of his feet as the energy appeared to explode from Hitmonlee's foot on contact. It was only now that Hitmonlee was able to react to the hit he'd just received, clutching his chest in agony as he struggled to breath. The judge raised her hand to call the match, but Hitmonle staggered to his feet and looked on. The judge still looked a bit unsure, but Crenu rose his hand to signal to the judge that Hitmonlee would be staying which caused her to turn her attention to Hariyama. "Good, you're not so soft after all."

Hariyama was completely taken by surprise with that last attack, having a hard time recovering from such a devastatingly powerful attack. But even still, his thick legs planted themselves into the sand and he stood up, clutching the side of his head with one hand and breathing heavily. "I gotta tell you dude, that was seriously harsh. Hitmonlee are a little to fragile to be counting on a move like that. You're pretty gutsy Crenu, I just hope your risks don't cost you in the end. You good to go Hariyama?" Brawly called out to his pokemon, who replied with an adamant nod. "Heh heh, alright buddy. Crush them again with another Brick Break!" Hariyama grunted as his palm began to glow with power again, charging at Hitmonlee a second time and slamming his palm down at another attempt to crush the Kicking pokemon.

"I don't take risks, I make logical choices based on the success rate of various options." he said in response to Brawly's remark. "Move it Lee, you don't need to take that hit." Hitmonlee nodded, going with Crenu again this time. e was impressed with that last move, and as much as he wanted to match hits with that big lump of a pokemon he knew another hit only half as strong as that last one would be enough to take him out. Hitmonlee waited for the big hand to come down before leaping to the side with amazing speed, skidding in the sand and kicking up a lot of dust and sand.

"So it's back to cat and mouse. Well that's fine Mr. Logic, because this next one 'll be sure to hit. Vital Throw, Hariyama!" It was time to end this fight, for this next move would not miss. Hariyama made for Hitmonlee quickly, but his hands and arms remained close to his body as he readied himself to get a hold of the pokemon as soon as he was in range.

"That move again, I thought so. Hitmonlee, you'll have to try and knock him away with Double Kick or Brick Break, to derail his attack." Crenu wasn't all that confident though, an attack like that where Hariyama waited until the last moment to seize his opponent might have been impossible to re direct. But it was worth a shot. Hitmonlee wagged his finger at Crenu though, he had other plans. This tub of lard was going down one way or another, he didn't care what he had to do. Without waiting for Crenu's decision Hitmonlee sprang forward, leaping up into the air and coming down with a solid knee aimed at Hariyama. Crenu who immediately recognized the stance called out to Hitmonlee in anger. "Damn it Lee, I didn't tell you to use something so unreliable as Jump Kick....s**t." Though he apparently lost his cool, Crenu's face remained the same as it had been before with the exception of his mouth which clearly depicted his grinding teeth. Hitmonlee was goign to fall hard, this kidn of behavior was more than unacceptable. Pupitar looked on glaring angrily at how Hitmonlee showed no respect for their masters
s strategy, he would need dealing with when this was all over. Still, both Pupitar and Crenu agreed that if this was successful, it might just be enough for the win. Either way, Hitmonlee was a reckless moron. Hitmonlee came down fast and hard, like an arrow shot down at the invading forces, hittign his slow moving mark that had been planning for a counter attack from the start. He could feel his knee dig into the solid body of Hariyama piercing the hardy pokemon's defenses and pushing him back, a critical hit! But much to Hitmonlee's horror he felt Hariyama's large hands grip his leg and body in a tight bind, preparing to finish him off with a vicious slam.

The Thrust Arm pokemon coughed painfully and rose Hitmonlee above his head, but his grip loosened and Hitmonlee bounced out of danger's way. Hariyama remained there for a moment before coughing again, dropping down to one knee and looked up at the scared looking and heavily panting Hitmonlee one last time before falling down face first into the sand.

"H-Hariyama is unable to battle. The winner is...the challenger from Ecruteak, Crenu!"

"...Whoah...totally swamped. You beat me dude, congratulations." Brawly said with a smile. He was disappointed he lost, but glad to have enjoyed such a fun battle with a strange and potentially dangerous opponent. He recalled Hariyama to his pokeball and started walking towards his gym, motioning Crenu to follow. "I don't have the badges on he when I go surfing, so you'll have to come back with me to the gym. That cool with you bro?"

"Just make it quick. I've got a schedule to keep." Crenu looked at his pokemon, recalling each of them to their pokeballs. Hitmonlee had taken a serious risk, and though it payed off in the end it was nothing more than a fluke. And that didn't sit well with him. He continued to feel disdain at the thought as he followed Brawly back to the gym, unconcerned with the whispers and words of the watching trainers, some for him but most against him.

When a hushed murmur fell over the crowd, Jaeshan knew it was over. It was confirmed when he heard the shaky voice of the referee declare it over and he chuckled lightly. "So he pulled it off," he murmured, kneeling down so that he was eye-level with Combusken. "Okay look. If he can defeat Brawly, then so can we, all right? I believe we can walk away from Dewford Island with that badge in hand, so let's give it all we've got!" Combusken crowed loudly and jumped up and down in anticipation. It was easy to see that she was psyched for this as well - her second gym battle!

Jaeshan stood up as he caught sight of two figures trekking through the sand and he quickly realized they were heading towards the gym. "Probably doesn't have the badge on him or something," Jaeshan murmured to himself. "C'mon Combusken, let's go after them!" Nodding, Combusken followed after her tall trainer, still very much pumped for the upcoming fight. It was hard to tell what was going through the minds of Brawly and Crenu, but Jaeshan tried not to give it much thought as he prepared himself mentally for his own Dewford Gym match.

((short and sucky, haha!))

Crenu followed Brawly across the small island to the gym that was not far from where they had battled. It had only been a while ago that he'd visited the gym to make his challenge, only heading to the beach when he heard that Brawly was going to be there. He hadn't actually entered the gym though, and when they arrived he was surprised to see that it was actually pitch black. "..."

"Oh right, don't mind the lights dude, that's the way this gym's puzzle is set up. The lights and visibility grow with every trainer you beat, eventually leading to me. But I guess you sorta skipped that step." He said laughing as the lights of the gym came on all at once, illuminating the gym's many twists and turns. It was then that two trainers ran up from the insides of the gym

"Ah, Master Brawly, you're back. There's a tall blond guy that came by earlier to challenge you when you were gone. He was able to use Flash already and everything, this guy was trouble." The girl that was with him agreed.

"Oh, Hitmoni, Daisuke. Don't worry, Crenu here already beat me on the beach. We're here to collect the badge and stuff." Brawly continued to smile, but turned his head for a moment as he realized a problem. "Woh hold on a sec, but I thought Crenu didn't fight anybody here at the gym. You came right to the beach to face me right?" He looked back at Crenu who nodded once.

"Ah, you mean you lost to this guy!?" The trainers looked at Crenu with sharp eyes then back at Brawly. "Oh no, that's bad. This guy's tall and blond, but its not the same guy." Hitmomi chimed in this time clenching her fists. "So that other guy's still out there, there's a good chance he'll be back soon. Brawly sir, let us take your pokemon to the center before that other blond guy shows up!"

"Heh heh heh, thanks." Brawly handed his three pokeballs to Hitomi and Daisuke who ran past Crenu and made their exit. "Those two seemed pretty spooked. This mystery blond guy a friend of yours?" Brawly was joking of course since no one seemed to show up with Crenu, but at the same time it was an odd coincidence. To this day he would be tested by a duo of tall blond dudes...kinda funny. Brawly continued towards the back of the Gym where he generally took his challenges when the trainers finally made it to him. "Alright then Crenu, let's get down to business dude. Ahem, in recognition for defeating me in battle, you've earned the Dewford City Knuckle Badge!" Taking out a shiny case adorned with the pokemon league symbol he opened it, several badges shaped like a fist placed neatly inside of it. Brawly took one of the badges and tossed it at Crenu, who caught it and immediately put it in the pocket of his coat, almost as it he'd just received a bottle cap or something. Brawly was a bit taken aback by this, but didn't dwell on the habits of others. "And of course there is the prize money for winning, being a trainer isn't cheap after all. Also, I'd like you to take this. TM 08 teaches Bulk Up, a move that boosts both attack and defense, perfect for fighting pokemon to get ready for a big wave and strike back with vigor! I'm sure you'll use it well. That was a fun battle Crenu, I hope you go far." Brawly handed Crenu the disk and money, then extended his hand for a shake.

Crenu pocketed the badge which meant nearly nothing to him, then did the same with the TM and the Money. He had a pocket for the disk in his bag, as of right now he only had three unused TMs counting Bulk Up, but investing in a proper case might not be a bad idea. Crenu looked at Brawly's hand for a moment and decided to shake it, after all he wasn't an uncivilized jerk or anything. "Right." He turned and began to make his way out of the gym.

"Oh, you can follow Hitomi and Daisuke to the center....tough they left in a hurry so they ma be there already. either way, it's not that far." Brawly called out to Crenu, he should have offered to have Crenu's pokemon taken by thw two earlier, but it didn't occur to him. "I can show you the way if you need it though."

"No thank you. We don't have time to sit down and lick our wounds, I've got a ferry to catch." With that Crenu had left the gym, heading directly for the docks where he'd gotten off the ferry that brought him to Dewford. Buying another ticket for the trip back from the receptionist, Crenu waited for the next ferry to take him back to Slateport. As he waited he sat on an empty bench, just thinking to himself, taking out the badge he'd put in his pocket. "...The Knuckle badge..." It was a blue badge in the shape of a glove with a red thumb, very different from his Zephyr Badge. He held it up and watched the sunlight reflect off of it's shiny surface, this sort of thing didn't mean much to him. But just then, he felt a slight tug from somewhere inside him. "...I bet Riza would have liked this." With that last thought Crenu flicked the badge up into the air like a coin and caught it, putting it back into his pocket next to his other badge. He should get a badge case as well.

Before long another ferry did indeed come. The thoughts of the raven haired girl had been pushed away for the moment as Crenu planned ahead. The trip back to Slateport wouldn't be long, but the real question was what to do then. Hoenn was an interesting place, there was no denying that, but he felt a tad out of place in this warm climate. he had just won another gym battle, but that was no reason to take it easy. True power was obtained through diligence and work, there was no down time in his plans to aim for the top. Nothing else mattered, no one else mattered. When he became strong, when he gained the power to take on the world and send back everything it threw at him, then he could consider life little pleasures or whatever it was that people wasted their time on. But for now, he could not allow himself to be weak. This was the best way to go about things, that's what he convinced himself anyway. Gettign aboard the ferry Crenu waited for it to start up and begin it's set rout. "Hmm...I suppose I should head to where the contests are being held. This coordinator business intrigues me. If I recall correctly, Kanto is where the contests are beign held at the moment. So I suppose my next stop would be...Celedon City."

((good god this is terrible -_- ))

Riza was still grumbling angrily to herself as she walked away from the pokecenter, Ralts still riding comfortably on her shoulder and Sneasel and Corphish trailing behind, chatting to one another. "The nerve of some people," she muttered, picking up her pace a little. When she realized her two Pokemon were falling yet even further behind she recalled the two of them, not wanting to lose them in a city, not to mention a region, that she didn't know at all. Before long Riza had stumbled upon the Lilycove department store and after a bit of a nudge from Ralts she went inside. It seemed to be a pretty popular place to shop, as there were a lot of people inside. This may have just been the main foyer but there were signs everywhere, indicating sales and specials in every direction. Eventually Riza found means to get to the next floor, but the elevator was so packed that she chose to use the stairs instead. Riza really didn't need to buy anything, but for some reason Ralts seemed to urge them onwards, and finally the duo made it to the floor that specialized in tms for Pokemon. "So this is what you wanted," Riza chuckled, wandering up and down the aisles of glimmering discs. There was a wide variety of colours and Riza got the faint impression that they represented the different types of the moves. "There are so many," she marveled, picking up a scarlet disc that had the number 35 stamped on it - the letters read 'Flamethrower.' "And they're so expensive, too," she added, putting it back down because she knew very well that she had no Pokemon capable of learning a fire-type move such as that.

She and ralts continued to browse around for a little while longer, so far not finding anything that seemed to be useful. Suddenly little Ralts let out an excited cry and gestured to one of the rows of discs. It seemed she had found one she liked. "Which one?" Riza asked curiously, as there were many discs in that general area, and Ralts' flailing did little to help narrow down the field any. "This one?" Ralts shook her head. "Okay then....this one?" Riza asked, holding up a pale pink one. Again Ralts shook her head. "Okay Ralts, you're gonna have to help me out here," Riza grumbled. "Or haven't you noticed that there are hundreds of tms here!?"

Ralts sighed and nodded. She pointed with her tiny white hand, causing a single disc to rise up slowly from one of the middle rows. The little psychic concentrated hard in order to bring it over to Riza's hands, and when her trainer took the weight of it, she slumped a little on Riza's shoulder. "Tm 24, thunderbolt?" Riza read aloud, looking at the Pokemon. Ralts nodded and clapped happily, it seemed it was exactly what she wanted. Riza looked at the price and sighed. If it helped Ralts' confidence, well, she'd buy it...but she seriously hoped that her Pokemon wouldn't make a habit out of spending all her money like this. She paid for the tm at one of the counters, and after receiving instructions on how to use it, she left the building, wondering where she should go to try it out. 'I wonder where Keegan got to," she thought to herself, looking around in disdain. 'And I wonder if Crenu had his gym battle yet....' Crenu had been a little rough around the edges, but his company had been enjoyable, at least. He didn't sugarcoat anything and he always told it like it was. It was a trait that Riza admired in people. Trying to push these thoughts from her mind, Riza headed towards the beach, hoping she could find a trainer or some wild Pokemon to train against.

As soon as Katie saw the Starly fall she frowned and recalled the tiny bird, knowing that Noa would be incredibly angry about it later, and especially if Genki were to take down the Staravia on his own. The last thunder punch he'd thrown had made solid contact and had knocked the larger bird back a bit, and now he looked a little wary of the fiery chimp. Genki had also hit it with an ember beforehand and both Pokemon were starting to look tired. Genki, from having faced six opponents in succession and the Staravia from having taken two solid hits back to back. "Come on Genki, let's win this one for Noa!" Katie shouted, pointing at the staravia. "Smash it with another thunder punch!"

"Oh no you don't!" the brown haired girl shouted. "Staravia dodge it with a quick attack!" The Chimchar's fist crackled with electricity as he jumped at the starling Pokemon, but the Staravia did as told and used a burst of speed to zip out of harm's way, though he was certain he could feel a tingle of electricity pass through his body. "That was close! Now attack, Staravia!" The bird shot up high into the sky before it turned and dived down towards the little chimp, wanting to put an end to this fight, and soon.

"Genki look out!" Katie cried, cringing at the thought of her beloved Chimchar getting hurt. Genki's eyes opened wide and he deftly hopped out of harm's way, looking over his shoulder to see what his opponent was up to. The Staravia wasn't giving up so easily and it once again turned, ready to repeat its actions. Again Genki managed to evade those sharp talons and beak, but not by a wide margin. His heart was beating rapidly in his chest and he was feeling so tired.....but he had no intentions of letting that fancy-pants Staravia beat him.

"So you finally started to attack. Well then I think it is the time for us to try out our brand new TM! Sunflora use Hyper Beam!" The smelly aroma lady ordered. The large headed sunflower pokemon just smiled and nodded it's huge head.

Opening it's mouth a small ball of extremely bright light formed in front of it. Suddenly the beam exploded out in front of it hitting Raz head on. The poor Yanma never stood a chance as he looked back worriedly at his trainer. Raz was overwhelmed by the bright light, the beam engulfing his small body.

Robin just stood there blue eyes wide open as she watched Raz get swallowed up by the bright beam. She watched Raz fall down to the ground smoke coming off of his small body. Stumbling slightly Robin walked over to him and carefully picked the small Yanma up. "Oh I am so sorry Raz." She whispered to her fallen comrade.

"Oh dear, I didn't expect it to hurt him that much. I am so sorry about this." The smelly lady said a worried expression on her face. "Here let me help you to the pokemon center." The lady said. Helping Robin up she took the shaken girl and her fallen pokemon to the pokemon center.

Robin followed in a daze her mind blank except for a small voice in the back of her head that wouldn't shut up. 'It is because you were to slow that Raz is like this. Raz could have dodged that attack, he knows Detect and yet you failed him. He was waiting for you. The one pokemon on your team that trusts you completely and you let him down. It is your fault that he is so hurt.' The same thought kept playing through her head as she watched with dazed eyes as Nurse Joy took Raz into the backroom.

"Once again I am sorry, I honestly didn't know that he would get hurt that bad. I knew it was strong but never that strong."

The words seemed to get through to Robin a bit and she glanced over at the other woman. "It's ok." Robin muttered. "Good luck on your gym battle." Robin tried to give the smelly lady a smile but it didn't turn out to well. Still she wasn't mad at her, she really did seem sorry and Robin did wish her the best of luck.

"Thank you, I am sure your Yanma will be ok." That said the aroma lady just smiled reassuringly at her before heading out of the pokemon center and presumably to her gym match.

The torrent of water rising up from where the Golduck stood, even as she was constricted by the Onix, quickly engulfed both her and the attacking Onix, and then spread out to engulf the Dodrio and Shiva as well. Keegan found himself inadvertently stepping back as his immense fear of water decided to kick in just then, and he stared at the wall of water in awe. He couldn't see his raven-haired opponents from this side, but he was certain that they were just as stunned as he was, at the very least. "Althena? Shiva?!" he shouted as the water began to recede, and very soon he could see that Althena was standing tall amid the puddles and much, but her opponent was not. Shiva was also still raring to go, though she looked to be a lot weaker in the aftermath, as was the Dodrio as it was looking to be having a hard time standing as its legs were trembling. "Heh, all right!" the redhead cheered, tossing away the tiny remainder of his cigarette. "Nice work ladies!"

"You just got lucky," the Onix trainer growled, recalling his fallen Rock Snake. "You won't get past this one so easily! Let's go, Aggron! Crush these wimps!" While one hand stowed away the first Pokeball the second sent a different sphere spiraling onto the field, releasing the armour-clad beast in a flash of light. It slammed into the ground, causing everything around it to rumble and it let out a ground-shaking roar. "Take that Golduck down with a Thunderpunch!" the trainer's command nearly level with his Pokemon's previous roaring. A menacing growl escaped the Aggron's throat and it tromped forward, electrical energy beginning to build in its massive fist. Meanwhile, the Dodrio, as shaky as it was, was set back on the attack as well, and it appeared to be charging up for another Tri Attack.

"Althena, dodge it, quick!" Keegan shouted before looking to Shiva. "Ice Beam, go!" The seal let out a laboured sigh before she attempted to fire off the beam of ice to try and block the incoming attack from the three-headed bird, but she just didn't have enough energy to do so. The end result was the poor Sealeo getting blasted by the Tri Attack, but not before she managed to shoot a very weak Ice Beam in reply - it hit its mark, and both Pokemon toppled to the ground, unable to continue. Althena, meanwhile, had jumped out of the way of the oncoming electrical attack from the Aggron, but she had no time to try and launch a counterattack as the steel-clad beast swung his other fist at her, though this one wasn't electrified. She managed to dodge that one too, but the Aggron continued to take swings at her. Keegan sighed and ran a hand through his terribly messy red hair and recalled Shiva, wondering what would happen next.

An aura surrounded the Abra, and Star started to hear applause. She stood up, and attempted to bow. They were congratulating her for her wonderful Tackle! She had to give them more.

"Star! Mud-Slap again!" Star ignored the order, and instead tried to tackle the Abra again. It disappeared once again. "Star that won't work!" Lila chuckled.

"Encore! Encore!" she said, as she clapped. Sam lost her cool. She wanted to wipe the smug grin off Lila's face.

"Dammit Star, listen to me! Mud-Slap not Tackle!" Lila tsked.

"Someone needs a major attitude adjustment..." she said in a sing-song. It pissed Sam off even more.

"Star! MUD-SLAP NOW!" Sam was panting from exhaustion, and anger. The Abra had reappeared safely out of the way, and was using Agility. Star was still attempting to tackle it. The Abra, much faster now, could easily dodged her. Sam screamed. "Star! Would you please...just use Mud-Slap!" Star heard the applause fading, and suddenly felt as if she had been very stupid. So far Sam had been right with her orders, why hadn't she listened? Star shamefully obeyed, and started whipping up mud again. The Abra seemed to be everywhere at once, so she needed to get the mud everywhere. She closed her eyes, not focusing on where the Abra was currently. She became almost like a whirlwind, spinning so fast the mud was flung far and wide. Lila got a full face of the goopy, foul-smelling stuff. Sam snickered, until a rather large glob plopped on her head. Both moaned.

"Bleccchhh...That is disgusting!" The Abra, having been hit, was severely slowed, and had a hard time manipulating its psychic powers. It launched a Psychic attack, but missed by a mile.

"Star, Bite!" Star, now able to catch up to the Abra if only for the moment, didn't like the idea of eating all the mud, but complied. She sank her teeth through the mud, but her teeth barely pricked the Psi Pokemon's skin. It was enough though, for the super-effective attack sent the Abra falling backwards. Star pinned it down, and uttered a menacing Growl. The Abra, it's countenance unchanged, shot another Psychic attack directly at Star. It's eyes glowed with power. However the attack, both reduced by the Growl and delivering only a glancing blow with the reduced accuracy, did hardly anything to Star. Star delivered the death blow then. She swiftly Bit the Abra, and some of the power faded from it's eyes. It went limp.

"Assissi!" Lila recalled the fainted pokemon. She glared. "Here! Take it!" She shoved money into Sam's hands.

"Wait what?" Sam held the money, confused.

"You won. I have to pay out the money to you. Little B****." She turned, and practically ran into the pokemon center, her face turning red with rage. Sam looked down at Star, who looked back up at her, the pain and exhaustion showing her eyes.

"Well someone needs an attitude adjustment, huh Star? Lets go get you healed" Star nodded with a tired smile.

"Muuddd..."

Once again, the battered (but still somewhat chipper, somehow) Blissey made a half-hearted attempt to hop out of the way but only really managed to redirect the hit from her abdomen to her back. With a cry, the Happiness Pokemon hit the ground again, and with a huge amount of effort hoisted herself erect once more. Despite the cheerful perseverance in her eyes, Blanca could tell her darling Pokemon was hurting pretty bad. It'd be vain, ungainly even, to continue.

The Blissey turned her head, looking for her next command but only finding a smile on her trainer's face instead. "You did good. But the impending result of this challenge is clear!" the green-haired woman declared, her vocabulary suddenly taking a turn for the better. She stepped into the rink, patting her tired Pokemon's head as she passed by before approaching Miharu and Tingle. "Miharu," she started, smiling as the Gym Assistant hustled over to hand the woman a rectangular box, "as the stand-in leader of the Goldenrod Gym, I would be honored to present to you the Plain Gym Badge! Not to worry, it's totally legitimate. You've like, demonstrated your and your Pokemons' abilities awesomely.

"With this Plain Badge, you'll be able to use Strength outside of battle... Oh! And another gift from me to you. Here's the TM Attract. Not for you to get the boys, but for your Pokemon," Blanca said, half-teasing. "And here's your cash reward!" Having said what was required of her, Blanca leaned back on a leg and sighed, though this sign had no melancholy origin as one could see from her light grin; she was merely content after such a lovely little battle. She was going to have to work harder from now on out, so that she could better demonstrate the prowess of Normal-types. But no, she wasn't disappointed about this loss at all; how could she be, when she had lost to such a capable trainer like this one?

A pair of steel-blue eyes locked onto the front door of the Poke Center. Their owner stood stock still, glaring at the door as if daring it to fly off its hinges and attack him. Kenneth kept his hands buried deep in the pockets of his stonewash-grey jean jacket, slouching as he glared. A light breeze tugged at his blond ponytail and the messy strands escaping it, as if trying to gently coax him to swallow his pride and just enter the building already.

"Toooh..."

Kenneth grimaced, trying to pretend like he hadn't just heard a Totodile's impatient growl. "Toh!" Gator insisted, poking his trainer's leg with his snout.

"Yeah yeah shutup whatever," the brawler growled. He kicked at a stone, sending it skittering across the cobblestone walk, and stepped inside, Gator at his heels.

"Welcome!" A woman with pink hair pinned up in odd little loops bowed at Kenneth from behind a counter. "How can I help you today?"

The sixteen-year-old grimaced again, sucked in a deep breath, and then sighed it out. "I don't have a Pokedex," he said briskly, "so I was told to come here to learn about a Pokemon's abilities and crap."

"Oh, sure I can help you with that!" the woman chirped, either oblivious of or impervious to the teenager's rough tone. She stepped out behind the counter and beckoned Kenneth further into the Poke Center, smiling amiably. The boy noted her nurse's outfit, and also that she was kind of cute when he could see everything to her...but that pink hair just got on his nerves for some reason.

"Uh, yeah, so..." He gestured to Gator, who yapped out a happy sound and trotted towards Nurse Joy. "His, uh, name's Gator," he tried lamely. Damnit, he really didn't know the first thing about this Trainer nonsense. He didn't even know what questions to ask, only that his mom had told him to start his journey here.

"What a cute Totodile!" Nurse Joy said, clasping her hands in front of her and leaning forward to smile at the Pokemon. She knew better than to lean down and try to pet the creature--after all, Totodile wasn't known as the Big Jaw Pokemon for nothing. "I don't know Totodile's moves and abilities off the top of my head...Wait here for one moment while I get my Pokedex, okay?" She turned and disappeared behind the counter again.

Kenneth scowled as the nurse turned--it caused her bizarre pink pigtails to bounce. Who the hell had pink hair, anyway?

"Here we are." She stepped up to Kenneth again, pointing a red handheld gadget at Gator. The critter blinked his huge red eyes and tilted his head as the device beeped.

"Totodile," it announced in a tinny, mechanical voice. "The Big Jaw Pokemon. It has the habit of biting anything with its developed jaws. Even its Trainer needs to be careful."

"Tell me something I don't know," Kenneth growled under his breath.

Nurse Joy pushed a button on the Pokedex, her eyes flitting back and forth as she scanned the text. "It looks like he knows quite a few moves already," she said, pleased. "He's learned Leer, Scratch, Water Gun, and Dragon Claw."

"Dragon Claw?" Kenneth mused. "Sounds kinda badass."

Nurse Joy giggled behind her hand. "I suppose you could say that," she said, blushing a little. "Most Totodile I've seen don't know that move. It looks like it's one he inherited from his parents."

"Really?" Kenneth glanced down at Gator, who stared up at Nurse Joy as if listening in rapt attention. "So what do all those moves do?"

Nurse Joy nodded, pressing a few more buttons on the Pokedex. "Leer helps to lower your opponent's defenses. Scratch is exactly like it sounds, and so is Water Gun. Dragon Claw is where your Totodile gathers energy in his paw, and then slashes at his foe with his sharp claws." She glanced up from the 'Dex, smiling gently at Kenneth. "You're new to Pokemon training, aren't you?"

The teenager snorted, looking away--it was the only affirmation the pink-haired lady would get from him. Gator glanced up at his trainer, growling exasperatedly.

"You should really get a Pokedex of your own, dear," she said, still impervious to the teenage attitude. "Being out in the field, facing new Pokemon, catching new Pokemon--it'll be much easier if you have a Pokedex to help you learn about everything. If you visit Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town, he should be able to get you one."

"Sandgem? Are you serious? That's on the other side of the continent, isn't it? And you're saying he'll just what, give it to me for free?" His tone grew more scathing with each passing word. Gator let out another growl, this one sounding much more like a warning.

"It is a bit far," the Nurse admitted, "but it will be worth it. A Pokedex is the most valuable tool a Trainer can have."

"Ugh." Kenneth rolled his eyes. "First I have to get to Oreburgh, then Sandgem--this is lame." He sighed.

"If you don't know the way," Nurse Joy continued airily as if Kenneth's repugnant attitude didn't exist, "you can buy a Town Map at the Pokemart. They have all sorts of other useful supplies too, like Potions and Antidotes for your Pokemon, as well as more Pokeballs for you to use."

"Joy," the boy groused. Gator growled again, poking Kenneth's shin with his snout.

"Yes, that's my name!" the Nurse chirped, offering the teenager another bow. "I hope I've helped!"

To be perfectly honest, she had. She'd been very helpful. It just didn't help that Kenneth despised this whole Trainer idea and everything to do with it. "Yeah. Thanks." He gave the young woman a little wave, turned, and headed out of the Poke Center.

Gator growled a sigh, trotting after his Trainer. How many times would he have to growl at him before he remembered his manners? This time, the count was three. Any more than that...and drastic measures might need to be taken. What would his Mom think if she saw him now?

Kenneth's gait devoured the ground as he headed for the Pokemart, causing his ponytail to whip out behind him like a conqueror's banner. Gator managed to keep up with his brisk pace, waddling less than arm's length behind his trainer's ankles. The teenager's hands remained shoved in the pockets of his jacket, and his shoulders remained hunched--like hell was he done being pissed off yet. He'd be pissed off till the moment his mom got over her desire for her son to be just like Daddy.

It made her happy, though. It was rare these days to see his mother smile. Kenneth hated his decision for so many reasons, but...he'd stick with it as long as it made Mom happy.

She'd get over it eventually, though. He hoped.

"Hey! You there!"

The teenager didn't stop. Gator blinked his red eyes at towards the one hailing his trainer, but on seeing Kenneth keeping up his pace, turned back and trotted to catch up.

"Hey, Trainer! Yeah, you with the Totodile! Did you hear me or what?!"

"Yeah, I heard you kid," the brawler replied to the child's voice tailing him, not bothering to turn around. "I just don't care enough to stop."

The kid scampered in front of him, planting his feet right in Kenneth's way and clenching a fist. "You jerk! How dare you!" the boy squeaked his fury. "I'm gonna make you pay for ignoring me!" He threw one arm out, index finger extended, pointing dramatically at Kenneth. "I challenge you to a Pokemon battle!"

Kenneth blinked. He glanced down at Gator, pleased to see that the Pokemon looked back up at him with an expression mirroring his own: 'is this guy serious?'

The brawler looked back up at the kid, his bored expression morphing into a small smirk. "Sure thing kid. Pokemon battle. It wouldn't be fair if this was a real fight, after all; I'd beat the crap out of you, and that just ain't right against little kids."

"What was that?!" the Pokebrat raged. "Pachirisu, I choose you!" He tossed a Pokeball at the space between the two Trainers, and with a flash of light, out popped said Electric Pokemon. It chirped cutely at Pokemon and Trainer.

Kenneth froze. His smirk vanished. Both his fists clenched at his sides.

He glared at the Pachirisu. He glared icy, steely, certain death.

"You disgusting little rodent," he snarled. "I f*cking hate these godd*mn electric squirrels! They're the most useless creatures alive...they're so cute that they're UGLY! GATOR!"

The Totodile bounded forward, sensing his rage, his claws already raised in preparation for battle.

Kenneth threw out his arm, pointing the Doom Finger at Pachirisu. "Use your Dragon Claw on this hideous sonovabitch!"

"HA!" The Pokebrat clenched both fists and smirked in preparation for victory. "I have you, you fool! Pachirisu! Use Spark!"

The Pachirisu bounded forward, smiling adorably at Gator as its foe ran towards it. It chirruped cutely, then pulled its little paws to its chest. Electricity charged inside its body, then released.

Gator let out a howl of pain as a ball of electricity suddenly engulfed him. Kenneth stepped forward, eyes wide as the charge surged through his Totodile...but there was nothing he could do. The attack ended almost as soon as it had begun. Gator collapsed to the ground in a heap, his scaly body smoking.

"HA!" Kenneth looked up at the Pokebrat as the snot-nosed kid wiped his nose haughtily, his face bursting with an impudent, gap-toothed smirk. "I won!" He put his thumb to his nose and wiggled his fingers at Kenneth. "That's what you get for ignoring me, you big jerk."

Kenneth stepped up to the fallen Totodile. He took a knee at the creature's side. Slowly, incredulously, he lay a hand on Gator, checking to see that he was still breathing. Each breath the little creature took was labored, rasping in his unconsciousness.

"Hah, hah," the kid continued to mock. "Don't you know that Water type Pokemon take twice the damage from Electric type attacks? Boy, you're stupid! Right Pachirisu?" The Electric squirrel stared cutely at nothing, its cute mouth hanging open in a cutely vacant expression.

Kenneth stared down at the fainted Totodile. His face would have been blank, impassive, but confusion warred across it. This creature...trusted him. He hated Pokemon, he hated Trainers, he hated the whole Trainer culture and everything that it represented. Gator knew this, and he still trusted him. And now, the Pokemon was hurt because Kenneth jumped the gun, because he didn't know enough about his enemy.

The brawler stood, raising a clenched fist at the Pokebrat. "You little d*ckhead," he seethed. "You shut your mouth before I rearrange your face."

The child's impudent grin vanished from his face. He took a step back, shaking at bit at Kenneth's rage. "Hey now...don't do anything stupid now..."

"Stupid THIS, you little piece of crap!" Kenneth charged, not at the boy, but at the closest target: the Pachirisu. It did nothing to avoid the oncoming mass of high-velocity anger, merely staring cutely off into space. Kenneth swung a leg back and punted the squirrel Field Goal style.

A jolt of electricity shot up his leg as his foot connected with the Pachirisu. Kenneth yelped in pain. His leg swept out from under him, he lost is balance, and careened backwards onto the cobblestones.

The Pachirisu shook itself, appearing not to have noticed that a kick just sent it sailing a few feet. It trotted back towards the Pokebrat, limping a little and too busy staring into space with its cute little smile to notice the damage. The kid's Pokeball flashed, returning the Pachirisu.

"You're crazy," the kid announced, turning and running off.

Kenneth winced, cracking one eye open. "Ow."

Though excited for the match, Jaeshan managed to restrain himself and keep his pace relatively slow. By his side Combusken was having quite a difficult time keeping her own pace to just a brief walk, as her trainer's legs were much longer than hers (though she had a feeling that this would change, and soon, too!) and she had to take three strides to his one in order to keep up. They were about thirty feet away from the gym when Jaeshan recalled her into her Pokeball. Even though he fully intended to use Combusken in this match, he had no desire to show Brawly any of his cards as of yet. As he approached the gym, he caught sight of the two trainers he'd defeated a short while ago run out the front doors and head in the direction of the Pokemon Center. They didn't get their Pokemon healed yet? he wondered, scratching his chin thoughtfully. Now that he thought of it, he should probably go get his own Pokemon healed up quickly as well - Butterfree and Nidoking had taken some hard hits from Daisuke and Hitomi's Pokemon. Deciding to keep out of sight of the two fighters Jaeshan quickly followed along after them, stepping through the doors a few seconds after they did and quickly moving to the side to blend in with a group of people. Only when the two were finished getting their (and Brawly's, though unbeknownst to Jaeshan) Pokemon healed and had left the center did Jaeshan approach the front desk and the pretty nurse behind it. "Could you give my team a quick round of healing?" he asked politely, placing the five spheres into a tray and gently pushing it forward. "I've got a gym battle against Brawly coming up and I want them all to be in top condition."

"Of course," the cheerful, pink-haired nurse said with a nod, taking the tray from Jaeshan. "You can never be too prepared for a gym battle, and Brawly's no exception. I'll be right back with your Pokemon."

"Thank you," he said, sighing and looking around the center. It was moderately busy, and most of the trainers around were either his age or a little bit younger. He couldn't help but overhear that most of them were talking about the events that had unfolded in Slateport the previous evening. It seemed that a lot of the majority of them didn't even know the whole story but that didn't seem to stop them from talking about it. Then again, he didn't know the whole story either, but if the sorry state his friends were in this morning was any indication, perhaps he was better off not knowing.

"Your Pokemon are fully healed and ready for battle," came the sweet voice of the nurse and Jaeshan thanked her once again before placing each Pokeball on his belt. "Good luck with your match today," she said, waving as Jaeshan left the center.

"Okay, now we're really ready," he said to himself, now making his way to the gym. The trip was a short one, and he arrived in record time. He pushed open the doors, surprised to find that it wasn't pitch black anymore. That, and there were no trainers in sight. Jaeshan made his way through the maze-like corridors until he found his way to the back area he'd made it to earlier in the day. He took a deep breath and steeled his nerves. "Brawly?" he called out. "I'm here to challenge you to a gym battle!"
