Eskaatjuh: What Alex said. *hee* And yes, that's the idea. ^^ You go to the map and then click on a store like Barton Boutique. Instead of the usual shopkeeper message, Ian says "Happy Halloween, Eskaatjuh! Have a piece of candy."
You must be wearing a costume item like a Nurse Hat. If you're not wearing at least one Halloween item the NPC is just like s/he always is and does not give you candy.
The candy automatically goes to your inventory. You don't see it pop up in your inventory like a regular item though. It's in a separate little box that's only there during the Halloween event.
It will all be easier to understand once trick-or-treating really happens. ^^ Then you can see for yourself.

i caved and got the magic robe and hat and rushed to get them on, in case the admins disable avatar saving for the event >.<
