Well I turned 22 today. Yay for me!

Happy late birthday! And congratulations on the new jobness, Bart 3nodding

I'm such a bad member gonk I've disappeared for like, ever. Just finished moving to Canada (as in west coast Canada too - far, far from home) a week ago so I'd spent most of summer running around like crazy and now I don't even know what to do with myself here.

Well I turned 22 today. Yay for me!

Happy late birthday!

Thanks Pep.
We celebrated it today. Sadly I had planed to do something fun with the family, like going min golfing. Something Goofy, simple, fun, and cheap. But it was raining really hard today, so min golf was out. So I figured Bowling would be nice. But the Rain was really bad. Pretty much a full down pour. Ironic because the entire summer we had little to no rain. Suddenly we get like enough to flood the roads (still behind in drought terms). So Bowling was out as well.
Luckily, it rain die down enough to go to Dinner with my family and friends.
Went to Brick Oven.
Got some really nice gifts to.
a New iPod, Green Lantern on DVD; Neverwhere, Anansi Boys, Good Omens (all book as a combied gift from my brother and his girl friend), Courtney Crumrin vol 4, Empowered vol 3, and a iHome.
It was a great birthday despite the rain.....and that out drier is no longer working right. Time for the laundry mat. such fun.

The chick who played Lucifer was a bit unnerving, Chris. Though the guy is hard to tell right about now. Looks like we'll be able to see him in action this week. xp

Happy birthday Zachary, sorry I've been a bit distracted and just noticed your post. sweatdrop Hope you had a good celebration! xd

Nah, We all have things going on Pepper. Good luck getting settled in Canada. wink

The Place I work at is seasonal so I'm out of a job fro the next month. Both good and bad. It would be nice to be getting a pay check but having some free time isn't such a bad thing. I should have more time to hang around here though.

The chick who plays Lucifer is AWSEOME...oh wait. You're talking about tv or something. Nevermind. 4laugh

You know what's super rewarding? Doing a cover for a paper and then having them like your work so much they ask if they can put it in the arts issue later on. WEE! heart heart

Well everything was going so well lately that it figures something annoying had to happen.

I realize that right now I am the youngest person in the studio, and to date, aside from one two-month intern, I've also been the only girl. And I'm getting really sick of some of the crap I've had to take for possibly one or both of these reasons. While Bossman is pretty cool about these things (although certainly biased that I've got less experience), some of the people we've been getting in the studio haven't been. The latest guy is only a few years my senior, I think he's about 30. He's been working in comics certainly longer, and he's had more actual jobs than I have, working for books where he's published as the lead. Where I've probably worked on the same number only my work is generally uncredited.
When Bossman is out of the studio, I'm in charge. That's how it is. I've been here longest, I know what's going on, I know who to call and who to talk to about what, I know what needs to get done. He leaves instructions for who needs to do what and I dole out the tasks.
So Newguy2 (who's been here about two weeks, but I know him from outside of work) is taking to "correcting" my pencils. Because he doesn't like them, because he thinks they should be way X instead, I don't know. He does it without telling me and I have to go in later and fix it. On one page, he didn't like the way I did the lights so he added stuff. And while the new lights don't look bad, they ALREADY APPEAR ON TWO OTHER PAGES THE ORIGINAL WAY. So now it's like between two pages everything got refitted, then put back again a page later. There's a wall, he doesn't like the bricks, so he does them differently. Again, this wall, this shot, appears in at least three other pages. All these other pages were already scanned in, completed, sent to editorial. He only comes in a couple days a week, so now I get to go in and fix everything with whiteout before scanning. The bricks might require a total digital redraw because otherwise, I have to whiteout an entire section. He doesn't believe that people construct walls with bricks all the same size, so they're all willy nilly about the place. Some bricks are a foot wide, some are six inches, there's no rhyme or reason. "Ink this" is not code for "redraw this and THEN ink it."
The one we had before him who quit? He'd been working in comics a year or two and he was just as bad as Newguy2, hell he was worse. He made no bones about resenting that I told him what to do. He refused to learn the computer system or how we placed files, he would put crap all over the desktop without any clearly labeled names and when they got deleted as scrap, threw passive aggressive hissy fits. I have no way of knowing that DSLKJOIWERNFR23X.TIFF is a file you needed. I told you there's a cleaning program and we delete the desktop at the end of every week. What's hard about this? He was younger than I was, so I'm thinking for him it was the girl thing. I've had a couple interns that were like that too, and some of them have been shocking weird about some things. I don't think an intern doing pull-ups and talking to me about how much he works out is appropriate work behavior.

The clincher? The other person we have right now, Newguy1, he's fantastic to work with. He's always asking questions if he's not sure of what to do, wants clarity if he can get it, picks things up quickly and hell even takes notes for complicated procedures. He's a really solid inker too, his work is really good. I KNOW it's because I've worked here longer than him and he's only taken comics up just now, even though he's past 30. He doesn't seem to mind that I'm generally in charge. All the baggage the others guys seem to have, he doesn't.
I hope he never leaves.

Sounds like newguy2 needs a talking of about what's expected of him. Or to be told that the bricks are fine the way they are and leave them be.

There are some gents that i've noticed can't help but hate it when a woman is the one giving out the orders.

At my work i have the guy who resents me. He's been passed over for promotion about 3 times. then this young woman comes in from another location for the job he wanted the last two years and he has a problem. Though amusing enough, he'll do what i tell him, because he fears another write up for not listening to his superior.

Though at times, normally when certain male associates are working as well, he has the urge to glare and grit his teeth whenever I'm nearby. Talking and instructing him to do things within the department.

He's tried to insult me a few times about the littlest of things i can't help but get amused by it all. I'm thinking of just driving him up the wall even more with politeness. It seems he expects me to snap at him or wants me to do so, and it annoys him when i just smile before questioning him about certain things.

I can't help but find a bit of pleasure at the situation. Though the new store is actually coming along better than the old one ever did..

The problem is that Newguy2, and GuyThatsGone and FormerInterns, none of them listened. Bossman is super lax about this kind of thing, to the point of ridiculousness. He doesn't care so long as everything gets done, and while I'm clearly given the authority, they still think they can slack. The boys all get passive aggressive when I bring it up and act like I'm being petty (which was amazing when an intern tried to pull that with me because he was supposed to be cleaning pages and was instead reading Green Lantern, but he wasn't PAID so why should he WORK? Moron), then they acknowledge I'm right. And keep doing it anyway. If I stand over their shoulders I can MAKE them do it right, but then I'm not doing my work and it's irritating that it comes to that. I expect a certain level of professionalism and I just don't get it.
Which means I have to go in and fix this stuff all the time. I wouldn't care nearly so much if it weren't costing so much time, and if I let it go it makes the book look inconsistent.

I had an easier time at school when I was editing the comic anthology, because there, since no one was paid at all and I was in charge, I could whip them into shape and just ditch them if they didn't work. I lost a couple battles to "democratic vote" (something that really really REALLY doesn't belong in a room of comic geeks), but overall it was easier.

So, the full run of Transmet I bought on eBay a while back was "lost in the mail" and after some prodding (aren't eBay seller just the best?) I managed to get a refund. (Minus the shipping, so I come out short in the exchange. stare Whatever.) Since the universe seems to hate me in this regard, I've decided to take matters into my own hands and track down the individual issues. (I'm too proud to buy the trades. talk2hand ) 50/60. Not bad, if you ask me. Of the remaining 10, 7 are in among the Helix run, which is ridiculously hard to find. Think I might just find the 3 that aren't on the internet somewhere, and buy the first trade to tide me over.

The trades are good s**t, one has a forward by Garth Ennis and another has one by Patrick Stewart.

Damnit, man, it's too late to turn back now!

The trades were actually my first exposure to Transmet, as I'd heard good things and grabbed the first couple volumes at the library. I remember reading Ennis' forward, actually.

Regarding Supernatural, my friend and I mutually agreed before the premier that Lucifer needed to be the hottest thing ever to be seen on television. Because that's a big part of who Lucifer is and all, all about the temptation, and just about the most seductive being in existance.

The Lucifer we ended up getting didn't meet our expectations, but maybe he will look better cleaned up and put in a really expensive suit.

However, that girl who plays Lucifer around here is another story, and knows something about sexy~<3

Anyway~ Thursday has got to be like... the best night of TV ever. Bones/Supernatural back to back. It was almost too much for this pathetic little fangirl to handle.

This week's Supernatural I think I liked even more than the season opener, and had amazing levels of intense man on man staring. I love that this show is so freaking gorgeous, but is also amazing in terms of story, execution, and production. Even though I sometimes wanna slap Sam. X) But I have never once heard a poorly written line, ever. If there's anything that makes me laugh, it's just.. Sam being Sam and making his puppy dog sad Sam face, or Dean being Dean. Not bad writing, or bad production. And the filler episodes are actually good! Well. Most of the time. X)

Now one of Thursday's other offerings, the Vampire Diaries...

Oh god. It's so bad. But it's so bad I enjoy every single horrible line. It's almost as bad as when I watch Heroes. I hated all those shows that were allowed to thrive on the WB (and now the CW) while the actual good shows always ended up cancelled (I stopped watching TV altogether for a good two years or so when they got rid of Angel ::shakes fists: smile But yet here I am watching this show, willingly. sweatdrop

Speaking of Heroes... whee Will they figure out how to write a female character who is not a complete moron? And not kill them off right away if so? What other crap dreams does everyone have for this season around here? whee

I submitted some questions to the Tim Kring thing, but they were all about Mister Muggles. sweatdrop

Oh, and thanks for all the congratulations on my new job! whee I start Monday... gonk Even though there will be like... only one other girl in the lab, and no equipment or solutions there to do any actual work with. I was kinda hoping for one more week of lazy bum life! X) Yet HR somehow was able to approve my start date in only one week!

At this point, I doubt it. I stopped watching after Season 2. I would have stopped after the third episode of the second season but I figured "Aw, what the hell?" and went along with it. Unfortunately.
