Alley let out a cry and ducked as Kalan let out his enthusiastic praise. Hot blush flushed the blonde's features and she watched him with slightly parted lips until he brought himself to rest against the table.

"D-don't be jealous...I-i'm not very good with my abilities at a-all..." She swallowed hard and shift in her chair, her fingers carefully resting the plain paper crane to the table before her so that she could collect her cup of tea, doctoring it up to her likings before using it as a bit of a shield.

Kalan laughed and took a sip of his coffee as well. He was so curious and excited by Alley but he knew that if he didn't reign it in he might scare her off. Then he'd never learn anything. The thought of that was just enough to sober him down some so he could control himself. "It's pretty remarkable to me," he explained. "I have to use my wand for everything, and everything has a spell." Finishing off his cup of coffee before speaking again, he watched the girl carefully. She didn't look different, he didn't think. "It took me seven years to learn what I know and there are still wizards and witches much more learned and powerful than I."

Then there was the girl sitting with him, who knows what her real age was, showing up practically everyone he knew. This made him smile.

A shy smile spread over Alley's lips and she lowered her cup to the table again after a moment of slightly embarrassed silence. "You've had to go to school to learn magical things?" It both did and did not surprise her. She should have been attending classes to better control her abilities, but her lack of confidence kept her from actually doing so. "And...You use spells?" She couldn't recall him speaking anything when he manipulated the paper of the crane he offered her, but she had often heard her father mutter things before being able to draw on his powers.

"Why do you use a wand, though?"

A new blush flushed her features and she averted her gaze to the crane near her tea, her fingertips playing against the frayed hem of one of her layers of skirts. She had horrible people skills, or rather she felt she did, and the realization that perhaps she was asking too many questions sparked her inner need to flee again.

"Ah, s-sorry. I don't mean to ask so many questions..."

Kalan ran one hand through his hair and used the other to point upwards, as though making a very important discovery. "Questions are a sign of a healthy mind!" Dropping his hands back down to their previous positions he fingered his wand. "I do use spells though mostly I think them now instead of speaking them," he explained. "I use the wand, as most do from my part of the magic world, as a focus for those spells. It just helps ... Direct them." Looking back up at Alley, he grinned. "Yup, a school. Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry! It's used mostly so that our abilities are controlled and contained." He paused for awhile, his eyes glassing over as he thought about everything was asking.

"You know, in a way, I think the only real reason the schools exist is so that each of us know we aren't alone in our abilities. And possibly because they want to keep an eye on our powers so they can find a place for us in the working world later on."

Anything to use what they've got, he said to himself bitterly. It wasn't nice of him to sit there and stew though when there was such a seemingly kindred spirit sitting before him. Especially such a pretty one. "But what about you? Did anyone teach you how to focus your powers?"

Aiji strolled into the Coffeehouse, sighing as the scent of the fresh brews filled h/er nose. It had been ages since s/he had left the house, and figured it was about time to get out. S/he ordered h/erself a double chocolate mocha and stood at the counter, debating whether or not s/he should get a snack. Deciding it was too good to pass up, h/er lips quirked into a sly smirk as s/he ordered a banana muffin. Standing, s/he waited for h/er order.

"Well," the blonde started, her head tilting slightly as she tried hard to hide behind the brim of her hat. "My Father has very different powers than I do but he tries hard to help me understand magical laws and guidelines. My Mother helps me with the abilities that are similar to hers, and my maternal Grandfather lends me books so that I can research how to deal with my gifts."

This was all true - Her family had a complex web of magical bonds, and while she shared many of her powers with her siblings, each of them were different. And while she knew of magical academies she could attend, she felt as though none of them would accept her for her 'different' abilities. She was completely unsure how to offer this to the boy she sat with, though, and worried her lower lip as the heels of her shoes gently thunked together.

"Hogwarts is a silly name for a school," she offered after a moment of awkward silence. "But it is kind of fun to say." Her lips quirked into a smile, and she shyly peered after Kalan.

It had been a long day of unpacking his belongings and settling his room as he desired it, and Jasper was ready for a new focus of his attention. He made his way into the coffeehouse with hopes to find a nice something to snack on, and smiled broadly as he made his way to the counter, his eyes dancing over the display case of goodies.

It took him several moments to decide on what he would like to try and in the end ordered a simple cup of brewed coffee though what he paired along with it took several moments for the barista to collect. Several types of cookies and a chocolate chip muffin, a pumpkin pecan scone and a glazed blueberry donut - Surely it wasn't all for him?

Aiji wouldn't have noticed the boy, but after hearing his seemingly never ending order, s/he couldn't help but turn to him.

"Hungry?"
s/he asked, h/er eyes rather wide. He was skinny, really, so the only thing that s/he could reason was that he was going to share, or take the other items home with him.

A blush flushed Jasper's pale cheeks as he was addressed, and he ducked his head slightly as he slowly turned his eyes after the other. He was used to people speaking to him at random in Tokyo, but that city was so big he rarely saw people more than once. But this place was small, and there weren't many people here at all from what he could see. Something about this fact made him even more skittish than he normally could be.

"Ah...Y-yes..." he managed after a moment, his blush still staining his cheeks. "But this is just a quick snack."

Aiji stared for a long moment, contemplating the boy's words. Letting out a small chuckle, s/he nodded, reaching a slender hand to clap over his shoulder. S/he smiled with amusement, raising a brow curiously. "If you call this a snack, I wonder what a meal would be to you," s/he spoke, winking. S/he couldn't help but be bold, and shy was nowhere in h/er dictionary.

The blush staining Jasper's cheeks darkened noticably, and his lips parted slightly though he couldn't manage to force out any sound quite yet. Was this girl flirting with him?

That thought sent his heart thundering in his chest even easier, especially with the physical contact. A sputter escaped Jasper, and he inched a step back away from the other before finally forming words. "Quite a lot," he started, swallowing hard as he collected the brown gift-bag style bags containing his treats. "My friends say I eat my weight in food every day...I-i think they're probably right."

A sigh left Aiji's pink lips, causing the electric strands around h/er face to flutter slightly. "A boy who eats a lot, what a turn on," s/he chuckled. "Oh, don't mind me. I don't know subtle, and apparently I'm making you uncomfortable. Name's Aiji, and yours?" s/he asked, collecting her drink and bag, which had been waiting while she was distracted with Jasper.

Jasper swallowed hard again as slightly trembling hands collected his cup of black coffee. "Ah...I wouldn't say y-you're making me uncomfortable...N-not in so many words at least." He averted his gaze from her and moved to the edge of the counter where the creamers and sweeteners rested. "I'm...I'm simply not used to the attention. Not..." His first thought was 'not from someone like you', but he knew that would come off completely wrong. "Ah...I'm...I'm gay." he finally managed, hoping she would understand why her seemingly flirtatious ways were slightly unnerving. He kept his eyes with his cup of coffee as he doctored it up to his likings before shyly peering after her.

Aiji found h/erself smiling even wider now, following him around like a puppy. "Gay? Ah, nothing wrong with that. I like boys, too," s/he said. Blinking, s/he soon realized nothing would seem wrong with that as s/he glanced to the top s/he wore, tightly fitting across h/er breasts. Giggling abashedly, s/he shrugged. "And girls."

Kalan listened intently to Alley speak and clasped his hands politely as she did. Mostly he just wanted to keep himself from jumping up, grabbing her, and shaking her for more information. This was his job, after all! To explore new magical worlds and civilizations! To boldly go where no Wizard(or witch) had gone before! He felt like if he vibrated anymore than he already was he would cause a mini earthquake.

"You're very lucky you have family with abilities as well. Some in my part of the world, realm, have family with magic and others ... Like myself, simply don't. None that we're aware of at least." He spoke suddenly and did his best to keep the excitement out of his voice. He wanted to learn more. He wanted to learn more hands-on. But how to do that...

"Hogwarts is a funny name for a school, I always said so." It wasn't what he'd meant to say, but he was still shy in his own way and that slight mental block made him skip around what he really wanted to ask. Could he see the books? Could her meet her family? Could he learn their magic ... He didn't think 'yes' would happen for any of those.

Alley watched after Kalan shyly as he spoke, the girl in tune enough to know that he was censoring something about himself. This made her smile slightly, even if she was made curious by it. She averted her gaze to the table a moment before her smile brightened a touch.

"I suppose that maybe...I am lucky. But you're lucky too - You have magical attributes and nobody else in your family does." Of course, she knew this was likely bittersweet. It did however mean that he could relate to her feelings, and perhaps he knew what it was like to feel that there wasn't quite something right with you.

She quieted again a long moment before swallowing hard, her fingers silently tapping against the edge of the table they shared. "Maybe...I-if you wanted...My siblings are much better with their magics...A-and a few of them live here with me. Y-you could talk to them sometime?" She kept her head tilted and her eyes on her fingers as she offered this, her cheeks flaring with blush again as she peeked after the boy.

~

Aiji's words first made Jasper tilt his head in slight confusion, but as she spoke the last part he smiled and nodded. It was nice to hear that his 'deviant' thoughts weren't going to prompt her to taunt him any. A soft gasp escaped him and he offered forth an apologetic smile. "Oh - I'm sorry for forgetting to offer my name in return, Aiji. My name is Jasper."
