Then I shall join forces with you and take over the world. My super-heavy squadron are a welcome addition to all.

I've been papering away at a small D-99 detachment for future reference. For the uninitiated, D-99 (found in Imperial Armour vol. 4) is made up of veteran drop troopers that come with super secret special super soldier treatment. They have increased metabolism (+1 to I), are almost fearless (Die-Hards) and are veterans (increased Ld by +1 and BS 4). Plus they can either deep strike or ride Valkyries. Downsides are low numbers, no platoon structure, no support squads and the fact that they are xeno-fighters (Tyranids).

I was thinking of making my small patrol something along the lines of this:

Doctrines (fixed and cannot be changed).
- Drop Troops
- Iron Discipline
- Special Weapons Squads
- Xeno Fighters - Tyranids
- Surgical Enhancements

HQ.
Senior officer - Power fist and laspistol
Veterans (4) - Medic, vox, plasma gun and lascutter*

Elites.
Veteran Sniper teams** (3) - Sniper rifles (3)

Troops.
Hardened Veterans squad (10) - Aux. gren. launcher, gren. Launcher, demo charge***, lascutter and vox

Hardened Veterans squad (7) - Aux. gren. launcher, meltagun, demo charge, lascutter and vox

Fast Attack.
Drop Sentinel**** - Multi-melta, extra armour and search light

* - The lascutter is new equipment designed to destroy emplacements or stationary vehicles. It can also be used as an auto-hit close combat weapon that hits with str. 10

** - Sniper teams and special weapon squads count as elite choices instead of being attached to the command squad

*** - Elysian infantry squads and special weapon squads have access to demolition charges as extra kit

**** - Elysians use their own Sentinel variant, a compact version that can be dropped from the rear of a Valkyrie. It should be noted that this is not a scout vehicle, but instead used as direct fire support. It can be outfitted with either a heavy bolter or multi-melta.

yes once I can afford my super hevy it will be a sight to see

I plan on using a Vanquisher Macharius as the Command and then 2 baneblades for its wingmen.

Just so you know, the Macharius is the inferior tank pattern in the realm of super-heavies. A bit like the Sherman tank in between the T-34 and Panther.

Aye, it is basically a lite version of the GDI Mammoth tank.

Are you going for the FW or GW Baneblade kit?

Are there still restriced troops that you have to use doctrine 'points' for in an Apocalypse army?
No, but only for Apocalypse.

My Cadian army fields Ogryn and enginseers in Apocalypse games, something I'd normally never field due to the Cadian doctrine set.

So that mean that you get to spend all of your doctrine points on upgrades, or can you not get any at all during Apocalypse games?

The way I use my Guard is by fielding my infantry company of 2.500 pts. just like I normally field them, with Cadian doctrines. Certain units that I could normally never field are fielded alongside them now, however they do NOT benefit from any doctrines.

Or you could be a d**k and give each squad its own set of five doctrines.

So, just how physically large is your army? Where do you store it?

It's scattered all over my room and in those big black transport cases that GW sells. It's a fine army, it just lacks paint. Other than that, a fine army indeed that embodies the true ideals of the Imperial Guard: massed manpower and massed armour.

My own army is made up of five platoons (one command, three infantry and one White Shield), two AF squads, a storm trooper squad and tanks. Other stuff that can be tacked on just in case includes three super-heavies, several spare Russ tanks of various patterns, a Griffon tank and a small platoon of Vostroyans who are in the "******** style="font-size: 18px">I=" business.

How many squads do you have in each of your Platoons? The maximum?

The command platoon has five support squads (AT, fire support, mortar and two special weapon squads), the three infantry platoons each feature three squads and the conscript platoon squad is made up of thirty kids.

I'll take a picture of that large unpainted mass sometime soon.

I've been going at it since 2002 or something like that. My army really didn't take shape until the release of the new codex and plastic Cadians.

edit.

Not shown are the transports and tanks.

I'm missing several heavy bolter teams and a full squad gonk
