duh1vampire vandoren reeds rule rico suck evil twisted Rico Royals aren't too bad. Prsonally, i don't have a reed preference. I used to use vandorens, but money shortages caused me to have to use rico royals, like the rest of my section. I actually found that it was easier to paly a brand new rico royal then a brand new vandoren(the latter usually takes me a few days to get a good sound out of.) Rico Royals I have also found tend to sound better. I do agree that Ricos are terrible, jsut not rico royals. I'm pretty sure normal Ricos are the reeds that werent up to snuff...

duh1vampire doesn't depend on years played depends on skill almost three years and i'm getting closer to a four by the second if only i practiced emo wink e.e it has ALMOST nothing to do with skill. as soon as you are at least a decent reed player, reed size is determined by the MOUTHPIECE. NOT your skill or how long you've played. sure, a beginner won't be able to play a size 4 reed, but that doesn't mean if you're good you HAVE to play a size 4 or higher.

And they have bad tone quality; people usually only use them for marching band.

Does any one know if leather ligatures are better for tone than metal ones? I'm in 8th grade, and on band night where we got to play with high schoolers, I saw that most of them were using leather ones.

we try to play "incantation and ritual" and "ancient moon" on our clarinets and it sounds like random notes smooshed together. the bass clarinet player plays to loud and cant play the right notes. there are only 10 clarinet players in our 7th grade band (i am part of the 7th grade band) and we are the quietest and smallest part. the drummers get yelled at alot because they play alot louder than the clarinets so we cant be heard. we are very unpopular. why is that? clarinets are alot better than any other instrument. i dont understand it.

it doesn't matter what material your ligature is made out of been playing for over 10 years started out with a metal one, eventually it busted and my dad surprised me one day with a new ligature and it was made out of plastic .. the people at the music store told him it would last longer, and it was brand new, and it wouldn't be slipping up and down as I play like the old one.
