He played with it, he always wanted to sleep on it, he even ate it sometimes. His mother had always found this obsession strange, and so she paid him less attention than his siblings. Though admittedly, he only had a sister and another brother, and it was a small family, there always seemed to be a reason for him to be shunned. When he was very small, he did not realize that he was treated different. As he grew older, he grew away from his family- due to their actions, and his realization that they treated him different, like he was lesser, which only pushed him closer and closer to his beloved moss. He spent all of his time searching for moss, studying it, learning all the different types to be found, though there weren't many sometimes. It was his life, and it was his friend.
Through his whole life, moss had seemed to be the only thing that really understood him- the only thing HE really understood. Perhaps he was a bit unstable in his mind and in his love of these flora, but it was the only sense of stability he had in life. When he was old enough to claim his real name, all he knew was moss, and so took the name of Moss Eater. Now that he is grown and on his own, Moss Eater continues to study and be fascinated by the strange plants. Strange like himself. And he still eats it, of course he still eats it. He is Moss Eater, strange and lonely, and he has learnt to be perfectly happy on his own, just him and the moss.
