"Let's break for some food." Sam was famished. They had set out about two hours before, and Sam had last eaten four hours before that. Sam sat on a rock on the side of the road. She brought out some food for Star, and some potstickers with soy sauce for herself. "Mmm...yummy." Star quickly devoured her own food. Sam looked towards the horizon. She could see the Viridian buildings. "Hmm...it will probably take another half-hour or so." Sam was actually excited. She had never traveled this much before! "So when we get there, we need to find the pokemon center..." Her face fell. She didn't know the first place to look for the center. Orion had shown her the center in Vermillion. All she knew was that the center had a red roof. Star looked at her curiously. Why was Sam so upset? It couldn't be that hard. "Well, we should get going anyways," Sam said as she stood. She took a few steps forward, and then tripped and fell over a rope.
"What the...?" Sam grumbled as she nursed her now bleeding knees and palms. Star was rolling on the ground, laughing in her own way. "Oh yes because it is just so funny for me to trip over the damn rope! What is it doing here anyways?!" She tugged on the rope, and a rather heavy net fell on her head.
"Yes! I finally got one!" A little boy jumped out from behind a rock. Sam , still trapped underneath the net, thought to herself, 'Oh perfect another loony...'
"Hey you aren't a pokemon! Why did you interfere with my trap?!" The boy was angry
"Hey wouldn't this be considered cheating?" Sam asked, half-sarcastically.
"No it isn't," came a calm voice. A girl, who looked so much like the boy Sam figured they must be twins, came out of hiding.
"Well since you failed at trapping a pokemon, can you at least let me out?"
The girl merely cocked her head. With no emotion, she said, "No" They boy, who seemed the less stable of the two, screamed no as well, a little bit later though.
Sam sighed. "And why can't you?" The girl pointed to Star.
"Because of her." Sam raised an eyebrow. The girl picked Star up. Star freaked out. This girl wasn't Sam! Sam was in trouble! The girl's hand was on her shoulder, and suddenly Star went limp.
"What the hell?! What are you doing?!" Sam was creeped out by these twins, and now they seemed to be abusing Star. The girl handed the now-unconscious Mudkip to the boy.
"Here you are Kiku. Your very own pokemon." The boy, who had been steadily getting redder, immediately smiled happily.
"Really? You mean it Kiri? Thanks!" He started skipping off, with Star in his arms. Sam surpressed the urge to snicker. This wasn't funny! They were kidnapping Star!
"Hey isn't that illegal? To take another trainer's pokemon?" The girl, who was turning away, said over her shoulder.
"Not if no one knows."

It was at about this time the fight between Sam's Mudkip and the boy's... well, whatever it was broke out, and both Kasiya and her Pokemon found their attention to be focused on that battle. Nova let out a happy squeal as she watched the Pokemon exchange attacks, and even Kasiya found herself to be watching the two younger trainers with keen interest. She took out her newly updated PokeDex to scan the strange brown Pokemon, giggling a little when she saw that it was named Bidoof. What a strange Pokemon, she thought, wondering if this was one of those Sinnoh-exclusive Pokemon or not. The battle soon wrapped up, with the Mudkip coming up as the victor. Not bad at all, Kasiya thought, watching Oak talking with the two. The boy didn't seem to be too pleased with his Pokemon, but Kasiya paid it little mind. After a bit of aimless wandering around the grounds she recalled the six Pokemon she wanted to bring with her, and she gathered her things to set out. Nova had flat out refused to go into her Pokeball so she rode around contentedly on her trainer's shoulder. Kasiya still had no idea what she was going to do next, other than train with her Pokemon, particularly her young Charmander, Rosemary and Levi, but it was a start. Soon enough we'll be ready to challenge Blaine on Cinnabar Island... soon enough, she thought, gathering her things and heading towards the door.
"Aren't you even going to say goodbye?" Kasiya heard a soft voice call out from behind her, and Kasiya turned to see Professor Oak heading towards her, hands behind his back.
"Oh, Professor," Kasiya said sheepishly, nearly dropping her backpack on the ground. Nova let out a happy squeal when she saw the older man and waved her arms and tail around excitedly. "I'm sorry, I didn't even think to thank you for everything."
Oak chuckled. "That's all right, I understand. This past evening has been quite stressful, especially for a child such as yourself. Now, if there is anything else you need, don't hesitate to ask, understand?"
Kasiya felt her stomach bottom out. A child? Even professor Oak thought she was just a child, though she knew in her heart he hadn't meant for it to be an insult. "Thank you, Professor, but there is nothing else I need," she said, pulling Nova down into her arms and giving a slight bow. "I really do appreciate everything you've done for me."
"You're quite welcome, my dear," the professor said warmly, taking a few steps forward. "Now, if you don't mind me asking, have you any plans to go to Sinnoh in the near future?"
"Sinnoh?" Kasiya repeated, thinking for a moment. Well, before all hell had broken loose last evening, she was going to visit the new region with him, but now, she wasn't so sure. "I honestly don't know, Professor," she replied with a shrug. "I was thinking about it before, but I haven't made up my mind yet."
The professor frowned slightly, and scratched his chin. "Well, that certainly puts a damper on my plans, then," he mumbled, looking almost disappointed. Nova continued to make excited noises and was now reaching out to the man wearing the white lab coat. "You see, I was going to ask you do deliver something to a colleague of mine in Sinnoh, but if you're not going to go, well, then I very well can't ask you to do this task for me, can I?"
Kasiya could see the mirth in his eyes, and she smiled. Finally, some sort of direction! "Well, perhaps if you said 'please'," she said with a slight grin, "then I'll see what I can do."

Oh fabulous, Keegan thought irritably, letting out a deep sigh and closing his eyes. I finally land myself a Pokemon capable of using Fly to its full extent and these clowns have the nerve to show up and claim it as theirs? That is it! I'm so sick of people thinking they can do what they want! He clenched a fist and growled angrily, glaring sharply at the two. "Too bad pal, but you're S-O-L on this one," he replied finally, forcing himself to ignore the pain he felt as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Ever hear the phrase 'you snooze, you lose?' How about, 'finder's keepers, loser's weepers?' I caught this Skarmory, so it's mine now, you hear?" Themis continued to growl fiercely, as now sparks were flaring up all over his body. It seemed that the Manectric was showing no signs that he'd been tired out by his previous battling with the Skarmory, and without being told he ran forward, taking up a defensive stance.
The two interlopers exchanged a glance before turning back to Keegan. "Yeah, we thought you'd say that," the first one said, shaking his head. "I guess we'll have to do this the hard way." Without breaking eye contact with the redhead, he snatched up an Ultra Ball from his belt and tossed it forward. "Onix, teach this guy a lesson! Use Dig!" The second guy only smirked as the Rock snake emerged from its confinement. It loosed a mighty roar and glared down at its much smaller opponent for a split second before its head smashed into the ground, and in a cloud of dust the large Pokemon had all but vanished, leaving only a massive hole in its wake.
"....b*****d," was all Keegan could mumble as he watched the snake vanish into the earth below, and as he looked over at Themis, he knew there was nothing that the brave Manectric could do against the Onix, and it would be best if he switched out to Althena or even Shiva. "All right Themis, come back!" he shouted, holding up the red and white sphere. The red beam shot out, ready to entrap its target but Themis nimbly danced out of reach before shooting a death glare at his trainer. "You'll get creamed if you stay out, so return now!" Keegan shouted louder, though the same thing happened yet again. When the earth started to rumble, Keegan opted to stay silent. It seemed that Themis would become a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks. ===== As soon as the temperature in the gym began to rise, Miharu had a good idea that she knew what Blanca was planning to do next, and unfortunately, there was no way for her to counter it. The only thing we can do is dole out as much damage as we can, the small girl thought, wiping the beads of sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand, mightily grateful for the tank top she wore. "We'll just have to hit her hard!" Miharu grumbled, looking to the Blissey. "Okay Tingle, while you're close, give her your best Metal Claw!"
Tingle, who'd taken the momentary lapse in battle excitement to twirl around like a ballerina, heard its trainer's command and nodded silently before he spun forward, both sets of sharp claws ready to tear into their opponent. Okay that's weird... but it just might work, Miharu thought, already quite embarrassed by her Pokemon's silly antics.

About an hour or so later a very smug and content Riza stepped out of the dress shop, a very wide grin spread across her face. She'd managed to find a very nice ensemble for this evening, and she hadn't broken the bank with her purchases, either. She'd arranged to pick up her outfit at around six, which gave her plenty of time for the rest of the day to do what she wanted. The only problem with that, however, was that Riza didn't know what she wanted to do. It was getting close to lunchtime and though she wasn't all that hungry, she figured that her three Pokemon probably were, so it would be best to take care of that before their belly rumblings could be heard right through their poke balls. She managed to find the pokecenter easily enough, and after getting her trio a quick round of healing she headed to the cafeteria area to rustle up some grub for them. Once she'd gotten enough food for all four of them she sat down at one of the tables, a bit surprised to see that the place was relatively empty. "Okay ladies, it's lunch time," she said, releasing the three of her Pokemon all at once. Upon seeing that it was food time, Sneasel let out a happy cry and dug in almost immediately, while Ralts kinda just sat there, looking very uninterested as she poked at her food. Corphish, however, stared at the other two Pokemon a bit apprehensively before she dismissed Ralts with a wave of her claw and nodded respectfully at Sneasel. Riza couldn't help but notice the unhappy sigh that escaped the tiny psychic and she felt very bad for the Pokemon. "Hey Corphish, don't be like that. You guys are all on the same team so you should at least try to get along."
Sneasel smiled at her teammate and patted Ralts on the shoulder, and it seemed to cheer the psychic up a bit and she finally began to enjoy her lunch. Corphish just scoffed and refused to look at Ralts. After all, the Pokemon hadn't really put up a fight. Riza frowned and began to eat her own lunch, finding that she was actually rather hungry for the first time in a while. 'Don't worry, Ralts, Corphish doesn't know a thing about your abilities and how awesome you are,' she thought, smiling at the small Pokemon. Ralts smiled back and nodded, and Riza was certain she heard a faint 'I know' resonating in her mind somewhere. * * * * * 'Okay so it's a Staravia, so what,' Katie thought, crossing her arms angrily. 'Genki and Noa will take it down just the same. She smiled. "Okay Noa, you take out the Burmy first! Wing attack, you can do it! And Genki, I want you to distract the Staravia any way you can!" The Starly didn't need to be told twice, and she was off like a shot, smashing her wings into the Burmy as it was gathering up more leaves to cloak itself, completely ignoring its trainer's order to use protect again. Needless to say Noa got the win out of that one, and now it was just the Chimchar and the Starly up against the much larger Staravia.
Genki had fired a quick ember at the bird's feet and definitely had its attention now, though by the prominent forehead Katie could tell that this Staravia was male. "Staravia was my first Pokemon so naturally he is my strongest," the girl said, smiling brightly. "Staravia you can do it! Tackle attack on the Starly!" The larger bird let out a screech and flew after Noa, who let out a cry when she realized that she was the target of the next attack.
"Get out of the way with a quick attack!" Katie shouted, knowing that her two Pokemon were definitely getting tired. 'Of course she'd save her best for last, once my Pokemon were too tired to fight anymore. That's the cheapest strategy I've ever seen.' Katie thought angrily. The smaller bird was just able to avoid being steamrolled by the Staravia, and both Katie and her Pokemon knew this would be their toughest fight yet.

"Dammit, let me out! Let me OUT!" Sam fought against the net was too heavy. She searched for an edge, and soon found one. She gripped it. It shocked her. Sam yelped and sucked on her burnt finger. Well now what?! She tried to sit up, but soon found the net had spines woven into the net. Who the hell were these kids?! She crawled to the edge again. She bit her lip, and tried to throw the net upwards. It shocked her again. "Ow...fridge...monkeys!" She started crying. "I knew this was a bad idea! I knew it and I did it anyways! What was I thinking?!" Sam broke into sobs. "This fricking sucks! I'm on the-*hic*-frickin side of the frickin road and I-*hic*-just want to go home!" She then remembered that Star was in an even worse situation. She was tempted to shock herself again for punishment. Instead she just cried herself to sleep, wallowing in self-pity.
"Ellloooo? Ey are you alive? Ellllloooooooo?" Bleary-eyed, Sam looked at the girl who was now poking her. She was about her age, wearing a white lacy dress with blue polka dots.
"Who...are you?" Sam coughed. The girl smiled.
"Yay you live! I'm Meagan. Whatchyou doing under this net anyways? Not a very good place to sleep ya know."
"Huh? Oh right...well could you maybe help me out? I got stuck."
"Oh mm-hmm sure one second. Just let me finish this text" She pressed a few more buttons on her cell phone. She then stuck a piece of gum in her mouth.
"Um...?"
"Oh yeah!" Meagan lifted the net, and Sam crawled out from under it and stood up. Meagan noisily chewed her gum, every now and then blowing a bubble.
"Hm...you ARE a mess. Come on lets go back to the city and get cleaned up!" Meagan grabbed her hand, and ran towards the city.

The boat took off. The ride would be a long one. Ryka tried to take a nice rest, but she found her mind often wandering to thoughts of the new region. As her mind shifted through the pictures she'd seen, the sight of the little girl's purple balloon stuck out. Shifting her weight a bit, she gave a small sigh. "Do you think it's getting a bit lonely around here, Iris?" The Espeon replied...with a snore.
The ocean just kept going, and going, and going... It seemed Ryka had been watching the passing waves for an eternity. Suddenly, PIIIIIPLUUUUP! A small blue mass of silky, water-repellent fur crashed into Ryka's legs. Ryka jumped in surprise, but the little thing just kept moving, it's course of action not impeded in the slightest. Chasing after the little thing was a young boy, probably around 10, a new trainer. He yelled out a quick "sorry!" before attempting to snatch up the Pokémon. Ryka gave a slight nod and, on a whim, pulled out her Pokédex. She pointed it at the hyperactive blue Pokémon, only to have the deep, elegant voice respond:
No information available.
"Hmm.. maybe it is time to give you an upgrade." Gently cradling the sleeping Iris with one arm, with the other holding her Pokédex, Ryka maneuvered down the hallway in search of a PC. To call Professor Oak and see if he could upgrade her Pokédex, she decided. After narrowly avoiding becoming a crash site two more times, Ryka finally discovered a PC, nestled right in between a set of bathrooms. With her pinky finger she pressed the power button, and typed in the number for Professor Oak.
Almost immediately, a large image of the Professor's face appeared on the screen. He's always near his computer, is he not..? Ryka thought with a slight giggle.
The Professor greeted her like an old friend. "Ah, Ryka! It's been far too long! How've you been? Where are you? Do you need anything, dear?"
Ryka greeted the man with a small bow. She tried to answer each question in order. "Hello Professor. It has been a long time, has it not? I have been good, thank you, and you? I am on a boat to Vermillion right now. And," putting her hand with the Pokédex in the camera's sight, "I do wonder if you could possibly update my Pokédex? It seems to be a bit far behind in the knowledge of current Pokémon." She finished with a breath of air and a smile.
"Oh, yes yes, of course! Just put it in that slot right there -" how did he know exactly where to point to? "- to send it to me." Ryka did as he said. She heard a little ping! from his side, and suddenly he held her dark purple Pokédex. How fast that was! "Okay now, it'll be done in a few minutes!" He disappeared from the screen, and Ryka could hear buttons being pressed. She examined the room that appeared on the screen, but something caught her eye right away. A girl, with short blond hair, and little Charmander...
"Kasiya!" Ryka blurted out, nearly floating with happiness. Her old friend! "Oh, Kasiya! It's you! How have you been?"

"So Professor Oak wants me to take this package all the way to Eterna City in Sinnoh... that's going to be quite the journey," Kasiya mused to herself, now once again sitting on the floor of the laboratory as she tried to fit the parcel safely in her backpack, though it was proving to be more difficult than she thought it would be. She hadn't asked the specifics of it, or what exactly it was that she'd be taking all the way to Sinnoh, but Oak had repeatedly instructed her not to drop it, throw it, or otherwise damage it in any way (not like she would do any of those things intentionally). Nova was still perched happily on her trainer's shoulder, watching with wide, curious eyes as Kasiya arranged, rearranged, and continually packed and unpacked her bag, trying very carefully to fit the oddly shaped package within. "This... this is taking up so much room, what is this anyway?" she murmured, pulling a velvety soft Pikachu plushie from the very bottom of her backpack. Upon realizing what it was, a pang of sadness and guilt shot through her heart like an arrow. "I remember this... he gave it to me in Goldenrod City, when we went shopping after he'd been discharged from the hospital..." She smiled wistfully and hugged the stuffed toy tightly, temporarily losing herself to her good memories of the Cherry Blossom Festival and all the fun they'd had together.
She hardly noticed when the phone rang, and not surprisingly Oak was quick to answer it. She did notice, however, when she heard a familiar voice call her name, and she looked around, bewildered. Oak had gone away from the video phone and Kasiya looked up to see a very happy Ryka smiling down at her from the screen. "...Ryka!" she exclaimed finally, giving a little wave. She sure looks happy to see me! I thought that everyone had abandoned me after last night... she must have missed that incident, thank goodness. At least I still have one friend out there... Tears clouded her eyes as these thoughts though she was quick to wipe them away. "I-I've been better," she nodded, finally cramming everything back into her bag, save for the Pikachu plush, which she was still hugging tightly to her chest. "But things are definitely looking up. How about you? Where are you?"
She'd have to wait to hear Ryka's answer though, as suddenly a speeding ball of pink fluff came zipping into the room. Apparently the Skitty's paws had zero traction on the slippery floor and she went careening into Kasiya's backpack, knocking everything onto the ground again. "Allegra!" Kasiya groaned, trying to keep the scolding tone out of her voice. "I just got everything in there, too..." Allegra's ears drooped a little and she looked up at her trainer sheepishly. "Heh, you're so full of energy I don't know what to do with you," Kasiya sighed, patting the kitten on the head.

Ryka's smile slightly faded when Kasiya replied. She seemed a bit choked up about something, and Ryka even noticed her wipe away a tear. "Something bad happened yesterday.. I do not know what, and I am sorry that I left so soon." Ryka started to think back a bit, but shook her head to chase away the thoughts. "I will not ask you to tell me, but I do hope that everything will get better. And knowing you," she added with a smile, "I'm sure you will find a way to make everything better."
"Everything is going well with me, thank you. I am actually heading to Vermillion to face your dad.. what a coincidence!" Ryka giggled a bit. She began to reminisce... those good old days, travelling with Kasiya and Jaeshan... how much fun they had together... what good friends they were. Especially those paintings they had found in Diglett's Cave.. she wondered whether those painting were still there. I would like it if we could stay good friends like we were...
Ryka thoughts were interrupted by the scampering of a pink little fluffball around Oak's lab. Ryka smiled at the playful little Skitty. "Awww, how adorable she is!" She exclaimed with delight. "..although a bit clumsy." She added with a giggle.

Kasiya looked up as Ryka answered her, now only gently coddling the plushy Pikachu with one arm while she once again placed her things in her backpack, trying to hold back more tears as her friend spoke. "Don't worry about it, Ryka," she said finally, reaching up to pat Nova on the head. "We'll all get through this, we always do. I know it." And Team Rocket be damned, the whole lot of them, she added to herself as an afterthought. Nova was looking down at the Skitty with apprehension, obviously not wanting to get into another game of tag with the overly-energetic kitten. Allegra, however, quickly realized that the pretty girl in the strange, large window was talking to her and she jumped up onto Oak's desk to get a better look at Ryka. She let out a very happy-sounding meow, obviously quite glad to be the center of attention.
"I think she likes you," Kasiya observed with a small giggle, swinging her backpack over her good shoulder with one arm while juggling Nova and the stuffed toy in the other. She always had found it to be a little odd that the Skitty was so friendly to others, especially if one took into consideration the abusive treatment she'd received from her previous trainer. Kasiya sighed a bit, wishing she had the energy and patience to work with Allegra, but the kitten seemed to be very uninterested in battling for the most part. "Vermilion, eh?" she said finally, looking back at the screen. "Just remember that my dad likes to try and intimidate his opponents with trash talk. If you can get past that, you should do just fine." She smiled warmly even though she couldn't help but feel a little bad for her father. It couldn't have been an easy thing to cope with all the time - especially whenever he had to give up one of his badges to a winning trainer, but she couldn't help but feel this way, mainly because a lot of her friends - past and present - were now trying their hand at defeating him.

Alice scooped up her little Pokemon in her arms and rubbed his belly. "Don't you ever leave me again!" She said as Kadaj squirmed joyfully. She was still a little miffed by the strange man, not only was he rude but he was strangely dressed. Why should you ware such a terrible black coat in weather like this! It does nothing for your outfit! There was a pause as she stared blankly. Dear God, Jun is rubbing off on me.
Alice arrived back at her hotel and quickly scaled the stairs, when she arrived to her room the place was a horrible sight. Alice gasped in shock as she saw the place was torn apart. Her clothes and belonging were scattered all over the room. She carefully placed her bag, containing the egg, on the bed and collected her things. On the outside she was calm and collective, carefully going through her things to make sure nothing was missing. On the inside she was in a horrible rage, she wanted to tear into jerk that tossed her belongings around like trash. Luckily, nothing was missing, it was odd though. What did this person want? She was completely confused, then it struck her and she immediately ran out of the room with her belongings.
The girl at the front desk squeaked in surprise as Alice popped up in front of her. "M-may I help you?" she asked, still trying to collect herself. Alice handed her the room key, "Did anyone, besides my flamboyant friend, ask to enter my room?" Alice paused to collect her thoughts, "Was the person pale as snow and dress like he was in a poor quality rap video?" The girl did her best to ask the barrage of questions, "Yes, someone asked to enter your room but he didn't fit your description." Alice was confused. "He was really tall, red hair and red, bushy mustache and.... he was wearing a black, long coat." Alice was in a rage, "Why did you let him in my room!? I though you were a high quality hotel!?" The girl squeaked again, "He said he was family! I thought he was your father or something!"

When they finally reached the city, Meagan led her straight to the Pokemon Center.
"Nurse Joooooyyy! Nurse Joooooooyyyy!!" Meagan called out in a singsong voice.
"What is it Meagan?" called the nurse from behind the counter. Meagan steered Sam towards the counter. "Oh my goodness!" The nurse let out a horrified gasp. Sam rolled her eyes.
'I seriously can't look that bad!' she thought to herself. "Look don't worry about me, my pokemon was kidnapped!" Meagan looked at her.
"Really? Well why didn't ya just say so? Lets go to the Police Station then!" she said with a huge smile on her face. Sam snorted. She really couldn't be that absentminded and peppy...could she?
"Meagan! This girl needs medical attention! We can call the police. Now what did the kidnapper look like?"
"It was a boy and a girl, twins. They called themselves Kiku and Kiri. They tried-"
"Like no way seriously?" Meagan pulled her cell out. She read aloud what she texted. "Dude guess what the Desoto twins are criminals. Love y'all. Meagan" She started chugging a water, but accidentally started choking on the gum she swallowed. The nurse shook her head.
"I'll notify the police."
"No need! We're already here." An officer came in, leading the boy, Kiku. "The boy here confessed. Unfortunately his sister ran off. The good news is..." She broke off. "Hey you're that girl! From Cianwood!" Sam was astounded.
"Huh?"
"You're on our Missing Persons List. Come with me, we need to call your parents right away!"

Riza stared hard at the small Ralts before her, very much convinced that she'd heard the little Pokemon's voice in her mind. It wasn't that far-fetched of an idea, seeing as that girl from yesterday had a Pokemon, and Ralts's evolved form at that, who could speak using telepathy. 'It's a sign,' Riza thought, watching the psychic carefully levitate a bit of her food from her plate, hold it there for a moment, and then bring it to her mouth to eat. 'It's a sign that she's getting stronger.' Ralts had missed these series of thoughts from Riza though, yet the raven haired girl continued to smile. 'I only just caught her yesterday...but I feel like it has been so much longer than that. Jaden was right when he said that sometimes being a trainer just seemed right.' As much as she'd always wanted to be a trainer, she never really could imagine what it would like to actually have a Pokemon of her own. Ad as much as she didn't think it possible, she really cared for them already. Even Corphish, her newest addition to the team, despite the fact that the crab was still making rude faces over her claws from across the table at Ralts. Riza couldn't help but hope that someday soon Ralts would step up and show the crab a thing or too. 'Especially if I buy her that thunderbolt move the pokedex said she could learn.' Again Riza smiled, this time at the thought of the crab getting zapped into submission by a powerful bolt of lightning.
Riza and her trio quickly finished up their respective lunches and Riza returned the dishes to the serving area. "Poke center food is surprisingly filling," she murmured happily, quite glad that she'd decided to eat lunch after all. The four of them lazed around the table, enjoying that sleeping-full feeling one gets after enjoying a nice meal. It wouldn't last long though as soon Riza noticed a boy heading over in her direction. As he got closer Riza realized it wouldn't be fair to call this young man a boy. He was maybe a year or so older than she was, and he looked as though he spent a lot of time outdoors. He wore cammo pants and a vest bearing multiple pockets, and she could easily see the well-toned muscles beneath his greyish shirt. Riza quickly straightened up her posture and brushed a few stray crumbs from her clothing, looking up at him just as he reached her table, taking a second to admire his wavy brown hair and nice hazel eyes. "Hey," she said casually, doing her best to ignore Corphish as she had started making angry snapping noises with her pincers at the young man.
"Hey yourself," he replied, looking over Riza's three Pokemon with a scrutinizing eye. Sneasel didn't like the way he was studying her and she jumped up onto the table, flexing her clawed hands to show him that she would rip him to shreds if he so much as blinked funny. The young man just chuckled and dismissed sneasel with a wave of his hand before he looked back to Riza. "You're lucky," he said finally, pulling out one of the unoccupied chairs and sitting down in it. He leaned back in his seat and stared into Riza's grey eyes.
"I-I am?" she mumbled, not sure what he was getting at. He didn't answer right away which only made the situation feel more awkward. 'Okay in three seconds he's gone from cute to creepy. Why do I always find the weird people?' she thought, inadvertently looking around for an escape route. * * * * * "Nice dodge Noa, keep it up!" Katie called out encouragingly, before glaring at the girl. 'Oh yes you may think you have the upper hand, but just you wait. We still have our secret weapon against your bird,' she thought, smiling wickedly. "Okay you two, you're going to have to work together to bring down that Staravia! Noa, use your quick attack, and you Genki, use another ember!" Katie missed it when her Starly shot the Chimchar a dirty look but nevertheless she complied, using her speed to arc around and strike the larger bird from behind. She may have been a little slower than her evolved form, but the fact that she was smaller made her a harder target to hit. Genki, meanwhile had jumped up and blasted the large bird in the face with a rather powerful blast of flames, and the Staravia shrieked as its body was suddenly covered in painful burns.
"Wing attack, Staravia!" the brown haired girl called out, once again pointing at Katie's tiny Starly. With a cry the larger bird spread its wings and flew towards Noa, managing to land a solid hit directly to Noa's chest. The small bird fell to the ground and struggled to get up, ignoring the pain she was feeling throughout her body. She looked up to see Genki leaping at the Staravia in an attempt to scratch at it and she growled angrily. There was no way she was going to let that flaming butt monkey show her up! With a grunt Noa pulled herself up off the ground and let out an angry cry. Katie knew she couldn't take much more and was ready to recall her if things turned bad, but the orange haired girl knew that Noa wouldn't forgive her if she stopped her now.

"Sam? Honey is that you?! Baby talk to me please!" Sam was overwhelmed
"Yeah mom, it's me"
"Honey where are you?!" Sam sighed. Her mom was a panicking mother hen, as always. They should have had more children, so they wouldn't be so scared. Then again, Sam had been terrified out of her wits.
"Mom, calm down, I'm in Viridian City. You know, in Kanto? I'm heading to Saffron to catch the train there and come home."
"Oh dear, my poor poor baby, in Viridian, all alone, and probably so scared..." Her mom sniffled. "Please tell us what happened. We've been so worried about you. We thought..." She let it hang. Sam took a deep breath. She figured she must be on speakerphone and her dad was listening. The videophones most people used were rare in Cianwood, and her parents didn't see the point in getting one. In the momentary pause before her long story started, she thought, 'Wow this is just like a movie' and then began.
"When Dad and I went out on the boat that day, it was rough. Storms were coming in, and the boat was rocking to and fro. I was on the top deck, guarding that egg Dad had gotten. I brooded about that. I hated the egg. And I thought...What if it 'accidentally'" Sam said, making air quotes even though her parents couldn't see it, "fell off the boat? The rocking was getting so bad I thought I could pawn it off on that..." Sam suddenly revolted by her own actions, went silent. She started crying. "So...I threw the egg-" her voice hitched, "off the boat. And left it...to die." She heard collective gasps. She hurridley moved on, hoping to redeem herself. "But...I felt bad for it then. Because it was just a baby. So- I dived in- after it." Sam swallowed. It was getting a little easier to tell the tale. "I swam to the egg, but the waves were too strong and I was drowning...then it hatched. The egg hatched. Star hatched, and she saved me by swimming to shore." Silence followed her speech. Sam started trembling. "I'm sorry..." she whispered. Silence still. Sam started to panic. "Mom?! Dad?! Are you there?!...Do you hate me?" Sam blurted out the last part before she could stop herself. It came out childish, and Sam wished she could take it back. Of course they hated her, she was so cruel to a helpless pokemon, and then she didn't let them know their only daughter was still alive.
"Sam, honey, of course we don't" Her dad's voice soothed her a bit. "We were merely trying to figure out what to do. You're a pokemon trainer now, and as such, you should explore the world. Be free, grow strong! We can wait for you to come home, if you don't want to come home just yet." That stung.
"I want to come home! Of course I do! I just need to get to Saffron with Star...oh my God, where's Star?! I can't believe I didn't think about her before! She's probably suffering so badly right now, I need to save her, yes I need to save her!" Her parents on the other end looked at each other, perplexed. Sam had never done well without the guiding hand of her parents.
"Sam, listen to us, you need to calm down." Sam had been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder when she was 8, and often still had panic attacks. Not having her daily medicine, or emergency medicine, was not helping her cause. Sam, already feeling the tell-tale signs, went through her calming routine of relaxing her muscles. Her parents waited.
"Okay, Star, my pokemon, my Mudkip, was kidnapped by these creepy twins who tried to trap me on the side of the road and I guess leave me for dead." She heard her mom gasp, and Sam regretted saying it. "Anyways, we don't have a clue where she is--"
"Actually, we know exactly where all of them are. The DeSoto twins, and Star."

"Don't let them get a free stat boost in Poliwhirl, Body Slam now!" Crenu had allowed Poliwhirl to take a hit already, and he wasn't as resilient to fighting type moves as Ariados was. Poliwhirl may not have shown it due to his apparent joy, but Crenu could tell he was hurt. If they were allowed to power themselves up then another hit might finish the fool of a Tadpole Pokemon. Poliwhirl was much less concerned with preserving himself in battle, but he did know that he was having fun trying to crush this little Meditite. Upon the order Poliwhirl rushed forward in an attempt to grab his opponent and slam him to the ground, arms outstretched with his gloved hands already grasping at the calmly meditating pokemon before him.
"Heh, don't think so. Meditite detect!" Brawly commanded with a grin. Meditite closed his eyes and calmly waited, opening his senses to the world around him, making a perfect 360 degree bubble around himself where everything slowed down for just a moment. Poliwhirl came in fast but Meditite effortlessly moved his body at out the way, spinning around Poliwhirl and coming to stop on the other side.
"....heh, Poliwhirl Body Slam once more!" A move like detect should have some drawbacks, same as that other move that negated damage, Protect. Detect probably couldn't be used in succession either, but after that power up taking a hit might be trouble from so close. Poliwhirl was eager to get his hands on that little meditating punk, spinning around and reaching out to get a hold of him again.
"Not so fast Crenu, there's nothing like an all out offense! Meditite, Thunder Punch!" Meditite nodded, electricity gatherign in his hand as he made a fist, rearing back as he swung it with all his might. Meditite's fist collided with the body of the squishy tadpole pokemon, but was taken by surprise as the Poliwhirl continued to push through, taking hold of Meditite. The electricity flowing through Poliwhirl swallowed Meditite as well, and as he felt the electricity's feedback take over he noticed his feet leave the ground. The very next thing he knew he was being slammed to the ground with terrible force. Meditite bounced once before remaining on the ground, unconscious.
"Meditite is unable to battle! It is now a three on one, will the gym leader Brawly please send out his final pokemon in this official league battle for the Dewford City Knuckle badge." The judge said, clearly disappointed that the challenger was winning so handily. The little gathering crowd also seemed somewhat upset.
"Heh heh, not bad little dude. I wasn't expecting such a big wave to come from you, guess I'll have to take things up a notch to prevent a total wipe out. Come on out, Hariyama!" Brawly shouted as he sent out his third and final pokemon.
Crenu watched as Hariyama took form, it was a massive pokemon with big orange hands and thick legs. At first glance, this Hariyama looked like a sumo wrestler. He was definitely a strong opponent, very strong looking, and Poliwhirl on the other hand had nothing left. There were burn marks all over his body, electricity still sparking here and there from that last attack that clearly paralyzed him. Poliwhirl was in no condition to go on, but Crenu wasn't going to call him back. He might as well get a good hit in before going out, he may even get lucky and cause a lasting effect. "Alright Poliwhirl, pull yourself together and get at least one Ice Beam off. Make it a strong one." Poliwhirl, who was panting heavily, nodded as he pointed his gloved hand at the big pokemon in front of him. It took all he had to gather the energy for an Ice Beam, but Poliwhirl was able to fire off one last powerful icy beam at the Hariyama.
"Heh heh, sorry dude, but you'll have to do better than that. Hariyama, Arm Thrust!" hariyama grunted as he planted his massive legs into the sand, thrusting his arms forward in rapid succession as he walked forward directly at the Ice Beam. With his massive hands he blocked the attack and even pushed it back, batting it away like it was nothing. "Sorry Crenu, but Hariyama's got an ability called Thick Fat that protects him from ice and fire attacks. I'm afraid your poliwhirl's through!" Hariyama's attack pushed through the Ice beam which appeared to have no effect, meeting the Tadpole pokemon with a good solid hit that left him down for the count.

I can't watch this, Keegan thought, turning away slightly to avert his gaze from Themis. He could hear the two guys chortling over the fact that he could not get his Pokemon to obey him, but he didn't care what they thought. He hated to let the Manectric get throttled like this, but how else would the stubborn Pokemon learn? Themis always been headstrong, right from when Keegan had first captured him as an Electrike. He's gotta learn somehow, the redhead thought with a flustered sigh, feeling the ground begin to rumble beneath his feet. The tremor seemed to extend up his leg and right into his jeans' pocket... no wait, that was his phone. He felt his heart rate pick up noticeably as his mind casually touched on the thought of who it could be that was calling him. He took a deep breath and looked at the screen, frowning with disappointment when he realized who it was. Apparently it was his mother, probably to wish him well on his birthday. Or to make sure he wasn't dead; after all both his parents watched the evening news almost religiously and he was certain that they'd seen the bit on Slateport. "Mom... this really isn't a good time," he said irritably after pressing the button labeled 'talk', even though trying to keep said irritation from his voice. Despite his every effort to stop feeling this way, he continued to feel disappointment over the fact that he'd guessed wrong over who the caller had been, but he couldn't be angry at his mother for that. As he looked back up to the battlefield, which was currently obscured by a cloud of thick dust, he grumbled again, remembering the main reason for his annoyance in the first place.
Maggie Summers was no less irritated by her son's greeting than his annoyance with her ill-timed call. "Since when is it 'not a good time' to call my only son to see how he's doing?" she snapped at him. Between the beginning and ending of that first sentence, her voice had magically risen by about three octaves. The redhead sighed, mostly with relief when he saw the Manectric prancing out of the sand cloak unharmed, and he could only assume that the electric type had made use of his speed to escape the Onix's attack. Wipe that smug grin off your face, Themis, it ain't over yet, he thought with a slight growl, still holding tight to the Manectric's Pokeball, ready to recall him when things turned sour.
