"Well..." She let her gaze fall to his hand at her arm, and as her cheeks flushed with blush again she let out a cute little sound. "Okay." She still held her empty cup tight, the honeystick she'd bought squeezed against the porcelin, luckily sealed enough to keep from bursting under the pressure. He was being very sweet, and she wasn't quite sure how to react to that.

Was she shaking? He wasn't positive of that, but he could tell that if she wasn't careful she would break the cup with her hands. As far as he could tell she was either not used to attention of any kind, or only used to attention of the bad kind. Neither one of those options sat well with the Brit. Letting his hand drop from her, Kalan ordered himself a scone then turned to her so she could order.

"I'm Kalan, by the way."

Alley drew in a silent breath and nodded as she looked to the older boy, another soft laugh as she set her empty cup to the counter. "My name is Alley. It's...It's nice to meet you." She watched him a moment before averting her gaze to her cup as she shyly requested a new cup of black tea, her fingers playing almost nervously with the honeystick.

"It's very nice to meet you as well, Alley." If Kalan had a hat to tip, he would have done so just then. An easy smile on his lips, he payed for their order and grabbed another honey stick. With a practiced movement, he snapped off the top and stuck the broken end in his mouth. Watching the the girl he was now sharing a morning drink with, he puzzled. He didn't remember seeing her before, and it seemed like the cafe was new to her.

"Would you mind sitting with me and talking?" He asked this around the now empty straw in his mouth and it came out a tad mumbled. "It's been way too long since I've gotten to look at a new face."

Her heart thundered in her chest as she debated whether or not to flee the coffeehouse without enjoying the cup of tea she'd sought out. A mixture of shyness and a lack of self confidence, Alley mouthed an 'okay' and nodded. She collected her fresh cup of tea and offered a slightly weary smile to the boy, biting her lip as she waited for him to lead them to seats.

He recognized her facial expressions and body language and instantly knew what she was thinking. Debating whether or not he should just excuse himself as he lead the way to a table and chairs in the open, he looked back and smiled sadly at her. Kalan had seen this before. Pulling the chair out for Alley, he then sat down himself and pulled a piece of paper out of a notepad in his shirt pocket. Silently removing his wand from somewhere in his jeans pocket, he willed the paper to fold into the shape of an origami crane and fly itself to the girl sitting with him.

Holding out a pen to her, he cocked an eyebrow. "Someone very close to me was once very shy, and this made it easier for us to talk." It hurt his heart to think about it, and the love he was missing, but he hated being alone and he suspected Alley might need a friend as well.

Alley's eyes lit up as she watched Kalan use his magic to fold the page into the elegant shape and send it over. Resting her teacup down to the table, she let out a soft sound of awe and cupped her hands to collect the crane as she rested in the chair he'd pulled out for her. "H-how did you do that, Kalan?" She had always been told not to use her powers anywhere but home, but she figured if this boy had special quirks, it wouldn't hurt to talk about them. It also helped ease her shyness a great deal, knowing that maybe he was similar in some way, even if he wasn't at all as shy as she was.

Bingo. That was the response he'd been hoping for, and it brought enormous happiness to him. Grinning so wide all of his teeth appeared Kalan set his wand down on the table and took more of his coffee. He wanted to answer her in the same way he'd been answered the first time he'd seen magic done intentionally. It had been so hokey, though.

With a chuckle he leaned forward on the table and in the most serious tone he could muster whispered: "I'm a wizard Alley."

"A wizard?" She'd never heard that word before. "What realm do you come from?" She looked after him shyly, the paper crane held close carefully, the girl's mind eased right easily with it in hand.

Isabella looked around almost in awe of all of the people that had made their way back to the underground. She finished her drink and set the magazine she'd been flipping through back down on the table beside her before standing to move back over to the counter.
She placed an order for two bottles of water and a few assorted pastries, paid for them, then once she'd received her order she tucked them into the bag she was carrying and headed out the door.

"A wizard?" She'd never heard that word before. "What realm do you come from?" She looked after him shyly, the paper crane held close carefully, the girl's mind eased right easily with it in hand.

"That's right." Kalan was aware that the place he now called home had always called to those of different realms, realities, and dimensions; he'd just never met anyone from somewhere not here before(as far as he was aware). He was thrown a little by the question. Laughing, he straightened into his chair and shrugged. "I'm from here, London actually, until a few years ago."

Making himself a crane- he occupied his hands and did it the non-magical way as he thought. "Have you met anyone from a different realm before?"

"Wizards come from this realm, then?" She blushed softly as she watched his fingers work with creating the second crane, the first still held carefully in her hands. She wasn't sure that she should offer her initial answer to his question, just in case her kind was not supposed to be in this place. "Well," she started, averting her gaze to the paper crane she cradled, "I'm from a different realm." She near winced in wait of his reaction, her form visibly closing up as she drew her shoulders up and ducked slightly.

Realy now? Kalan thought to himself. He did his best not to look creepy as the words drug themselves across his brain, but without a mirror he couldn't be positive. Finished with his crane, he held it up and smiled. "It could do with a different color, don't you think?" The wizard knew it was random and might throw Alley off again but he needed time to think about her answer. He didn't want to sound over enthusiastic about her origins, but at the same time he may as well have been Alice approaching the rabbit hole. A different world? Or just a new plane of existance?

The girl cradling the first paper crane, the first one of it's kind he'd made in a long time, had really just opened a can of worms.

Kalan's seeming aversion to acknowledge what Alley spoke made the girl somewhat uneasy, and she worried her lower lip slightly before offering a nod. While she did quite appreciate his paper cranes as they were, they could use a little design to them in the least. Rather than collect the pen he'd rested to the table they sat at, she lifted one hand to bring her index finger near the crane's beak, a gentle warmth eminating from her fingertip as intriquet detail flooded the folded page. Faint outlines of feathers and tinges of greys filled in shadows as the paper bird all but came alive in Kalan's hand, the detail against it's head and in it's dark eyes realistic in a way he could have only dreamed of.

"I like simple white marsh cranes," she spoke as she drew her hand back, her eyes not after the boy but the bird instead. "And herons."

"OH, THAT'S MARVELOUS!" He shouted it out at the top of his lungs, caught up in the incredibleness that was the magic Alley had just performed. Holding the delicate bird in his hands, he got up and danced around the table before settling back down. Flushed, he reached a hand over and tapped his new friend's finger. "That, my dear Alley," he said gayly, "was just about the best show of magic I have ever witnessed." Putting the crane gently down on the table, he rested his whole upper-body next to it and smiled up at her.

"You've got an incredible gift, I'm truly jealous."
